1. അഹസ്യാവിന്റെ അമ്മയായ അഥല്യാ തന്റെ മകന് മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു കണ്ടപ്പോള് എഴുന്നേറ്റു രാജസന്തതിയെ ഒക്കെയും നശിപ്പിച്ചു.

1. WHEN ATHALIAH the mother of [King] Ahaziah [of Judah] saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal descendants.

2. എന്നാല് യോരാംരാജാവിന്റെ മകളും അഹസ്യാവിന്റെ സഹോദരിയുമായ യെഹോശേബ കൊല്ലപ്പെടുന്ന രാജാകുമാരന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് നിന്നു അഹസ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യോവാശിനെ മോഷ്ടിച്ചെടുത്തു അവനെയും അവന്റെ ധാത്രിയെയും അഥല്യാ കണാതെ ഒരു ശയനഗൃഹത്തില് കൊണ്ടുപോയി ഒളിപ്പിച്ചു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവനെ കൊല്ലുവാന് ഇടയായില്ല.

2. But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram, [half] sister of Ahaziah, stole Joash son of Ahaziah from among the king's sons, who were to be slain, even him and his nurse, and hid them from Athaliah in an inner storeroom for beds; so he was not slain.

3. അവനെ അവളോടുകൂടെ ആറു സംവത്സരം യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ഒളിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നാല് അഥല്യാ ദേശം വാണു.

3. Joash was with his nurse hidden in the house of the Lord for six years. And Athaliah reigned over the land.

4. ഏഴാം ആണ്ടില് യെഹോയാദാ ആളയച്ചു കാര്യരുടെയും അകമ്പടികളുടെയും ശതാധിപന്മാരെ വിളിപ്പിച്ചു തന്റെ അടുക്കല് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് വരുത്തി അവരോടു സഖ്യത ചെയ്തു; അവന് അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില്വെച്ചു സത്യം ചെയ്യിച്ചിട്ടു അവര്ക്കും രാജകുമാരെനെ കാണിച്ചു അവരോടു കല്പിച്ചതു എന്തെന്നാല്

4. In the seventh year Jehoiada [the priest, Jehosheba's husband] sent for the captains over hundreds of the Carites and of the guards or runners and brought them to him to the house of the Lord and made a covenant with them and took an oath from them in the house of the Lord and showed them the king's [hidden] son.

5. നിങ്ങള് ചെയ്യേണ്ടുന്ന കാര്യം ആവിതുശബ്ബത്തില് തവണമാറിവരുന്ന നിങ്ങളില് മൂന്നില് ഒരു ഭാഗം രാജധാനിക്കും

5. And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing you shall do: a third of you who come in on the Sabbath shall keep watch of the king's house,

6. മൂന്നില് ഒരു ഭാഗം സൂര്പടിവാതില്ക്കലും മൂന്നില് ഒരു ഭാഗം അകമ്പടികളുടെ സ്ഥലത്തിന്റെ പിമ്പുറത്തുള്ള പടിവാതില്ക്കലും കാവല് നില്ക്കേണം; ഇങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങള് അരമനെക്കു കിടങ്ങുപോലെ കാവലായിരിക്കേണം.

6. A third shall be at the gate Sur, and a third at the gate behind the guard. So you shall keep watch of the palace [from three places] and be a barrier.

7. ശബ്ബത്തില് തവണ മാറിപോകുന്ന നിങ്ങളില് രണ്ടു കൂട്ടങ്ങള് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് കാവലായിരിക്കേണം.

7. And two divisions of all you who should go off duty on the Sabbath shall keep the watch of the house of the Lord to [protect] the king.

8. നിങ്ങള് എല്ലാവരും താന്താന്റെ ആയുധം ധരിച്ചു രാജാവിന്റെ ചുറ്റും നില്ക്കേണം; അണിക്കകത്തു കടക്കുന്നവനെ കൊന്നുകളയേണം; രാജാവു പോകയും വരികയും ചെയ്യുമ്പോഴൊക്കെയും. നിങ്ങള് അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കേണം. യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന് കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ഒക്കെയും ശതാധിപന്മാര് ചെയ്തു; അവര് ശബ്ബത്തില് തവണമാറി വരുന്നവരിലും ശബ്ബത്തിന്റെ തവണമാറി പോകുന്നവരിലും താന്താന്റെ ആളുകളെ യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

8. You shall surround the [little] king, every man with his weapons in his hand. And let anyone who breaks through the ranks be put to death. You be with the king when he goes out and when he comes in.

9. പുരോഹിതന് ദാവീദ്രാജാവിന്റെ വകയായി യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന കുന്തങ്ങളും പരിചകളും ശതാധിപന്മാര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തു.

9. The captains over the hundreds did all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they took every man his men who were to come on duty on the Sabbath with those who should go off duty on the Sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.

10. അകമ്പടികള് ഒക്കെയും കയ്യില് ആയുധവുമായി ആലയത്തിന്റെ വലത്തുവശംമുതല് ഇടത്തുവശംവരെ യാഗപീഠത്തിന്നും ആലയത്തിന്നും നേരെ രാജാവിന്റെ ചുറ്റും നിന്നു.

10. To the captains over hundreds the priest gave the spears and shields that had been King David's, which were in the house of the Lord.

11. അവന് രാജകുമാരനെ പുറത്തുകൊണ്ടുവന്നു കിരീടും ധരിപ്പിച്ചു സാക്ഷ്യപുസ്തകവും അവന്നു കൊടുത്തു; ഇങ്ങനെ അവര് അവനെ രാജാവാക്കി അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തിട്ടു കൈകൊട്ടി; രാജാവേ, ജയജയ എന്നു ആര്ത്തു.

11. And the guards stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right corner to the left corner of the temple area, along by the altar [in the court] and the temple proper.

12. അഥല്യാ അകമ്പടികളുടെയും ജനത്തിന്റെയും ആരവം കേട്ടു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ജനത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

12. And Jehoiada brought out the king's son and put the crown on him and gave him the Testimony [the Mosaic Law]; and they proclaimed him king and anointed him, and they clapped their hands and said, Long live the king!

13. ആചാരപ്രകാരം തൂണിന്റെ അരികെ രാജാവും രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും കാഹളക്കാരും നിലക്കുന്നതും ദേശത്തെ ജനം ഉല്ലസിച്ചു കാഹളം ഊതുന്നതും കണ്ടിട്ടു അഥല്യാ വസ്ത്രം കീറിദ്രോഹം, ദ്രോഹം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. When Athaliah heard the noise of the guards and the people, she went into the house of the Lord to the people.

14. അപ്പോള് യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന് പടനായകന്മാരായ ശതാധിപന്മാര്ക്കും കല്പന കൊടുത്തു; അവളെ അണികളില്കൂടി പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുപോകുവിന് ; അവളെ അനുഗമിക്കുന്നവനെ വാള്കൊണ്ടു കൊല്ലുവിന് എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു. യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില്വെച്ചു അവളെ കൊല്ലരുതു എന്നു പുരോഹിതന് കല്പിച്ചിരുന്നു.

14. When she looked, there stood the king [on the platform] by the pillar, as was customary [on such occasions], and the captains and the trumpeters beside the king, with all the people of the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets. And Athaliah rent her clothes and cried, Treason! Treason!

15. അവര് അവള്ക്കു വഴി ഉണ്ടാക്കിക്കൊടുത്തു; അവള് കുതിരവാതില് വഴിയായി രാജധാനിയില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് അവളെ അവിടെവെച്ചു കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

15. Then Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds set over the army and said to them, Take her forth outside the ranks, and him who follows her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the Lord.

16. അനന്തരം അവര് യഹോവയുടെ ജനമായിരിക്കുമെന്നു യെഹോയാദാ യഹോവേക്കും രാജാവിന്നും ജനത്തിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേയും രാജാവിന്നും ജനത്തിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേയും നിയമം ചെയ്തു.

16. They seized her, and she went through the horses' entrance to the king's house, and there she was slain.

17. പിന്നെ ദേശത്തെ ജനമൊക്കെയും ബാല്ക്ഷേത്രത്തില് ചെന്നു അതു ഇടിച്ചു അവന്റെ ബലിപീഠങ്ങളും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളും അശേഷം ഉടെച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; ബാലിന്റെ പുരോഹിതനായ മത്ഥാനെ ബിലപീഠങ്ങളുടെ മുമ്പില്വെച്ചു കൊന്നു കളഞ്ഞു. പുരോഹിതന് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് കാര്യവിചാരകന്മാരെയും നിയമിച്ചു.

17. And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord, the king, and the people that they would be the Lord's people--and also between the king and the people.

18. അവന് ശതാധിപന്മാരെയും കാര്യരെയും അകമ്പടികളെയും ദേശത്തെ സകല ജനത്തെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി രാജാവിനെ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില്നിന്നു ഇറക്കി അകമ്പടികളുടെ പടിവാതില്വഴിയായി രാജധാനിയിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു പോയി; അവന് രാജാസനം പ്രാപിച്ചു.

18. Then all the people of the land went to the house of Baal and destroyed it. His altar and his images they broke completely in pieces, and Mattan the priest of Baal they slew before the altars. And [Jehoiada] the priest appointed watchmen to guard the house of the Lord.

19. ദേശത്തിലെ സകല ജനവും സന്തോഷിച്ചു; നഗരം സ്വസ്ഥമായിരുന്നു; അഥല്യയെ അവര് രാജധാനിക്കരികെവെച്ചു വാള്കൊണ്ടു കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

19. Then he took the rulers over hundreds, the captains, the guard, and all the people of the land, and they brought the king down from the house of the Lord and came by way of the guards' gate to the king's house. And [little] Joash was seated on the throne of the kings.

20. യെഹോവാശ് രാജാവായപ്പോള് അവന്നു ഏഴു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു.

20. So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet after Athaliah had been slain with the sword beside the king's house.
