1. യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവായ യെഹോവാഹാസിന്റെ മകനായ യോവാശിന്റെ രണ്ടാം ആണ്ടില് യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യോവാശിന്റെ മകന് അമസ്യാവു രാജാവായി.

1. In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash became king of Judah.

2. അവന് വാഴ്ചതുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് അവന്നു ഇരുപത്തഞ്ചു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു; അവന് യെരൂശലേമില് ഇരുപത്തൊമ്പതു സംവത്സരം വാണു. യെരൂശലേംകാരത്തിയായ അവന്റെ അമ്മെക്കു യെഹോവദ്ദാന് എന്നു പേര്.

2. He was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.

3. അവന് യഹോവേക്കു പ്രസാദമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു. തന്റെ പിതാവായ ദാവീദ് എന്നപോലെ അല്ലതാനും; തന്റെ അപ്പനായ യോവാശ് ചെയ്തതു പോലെ ഒക്കെയും അവന് ചെയ്തു.

3. He did what Yahweh regards as right, though not like his ancestor David; he imitated his father Joash in all respects.

4. എങ്കിലും പൂജാഗിരികള്ക്കു നീക്കംവന്നില്ല; ജനം പൂജാഗിരികളില് യാഗംകഴിച്ചും ധൂപം കാട്ടിയും പോന്നു.

4. The high places, however, were not abolished, and the people still offered sacrifices and incense on the high places.

5. രാജത്വം അവന്നു സ്ഥിരമായപ്പോള് തന്റെ അപ്പനായ രാജാവിനെ കൊന്ന ഭൃത്യന്മാരെ അവന് കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

5. Once the kingdom was firmly under his control, he killed those of his retainers who had murdered the king his father.

6. എന്നാല് പുത്രന്മാര്ക്കും പകരം പിതാക്കന്മാരും പിതാക്കന്മാര്ക്കും പകരം പുത്രന്മാരും മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കരുതു; താന്താന്റെ പാപത്തിന്നു താന്താന് മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണം എന്നു യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചതായി മോശെയുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണപുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതു അനുസരിച്ചു അവന് ആ കുലപാതകന്മാരുടെ മക്കളെ കൊല്ലാതിരുന്നു.

6. But he did not put the murderers' sons to death, in accordance with what is written in the Book of Moses, where Yahweh has commanded: 'Parents may not be put to death for their children, nor children for parents, but each must be put to death for his own crime.'

7. അവന് ഉപ്പുതാഴ്വരയില്വെച്ചു എദോമ്യരില് പതിനായിരം പേരെ കൊന്നു, സേലയെ യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു പിടിച്ചു അതിന്നു യൊക്തെയേല് എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു; അതു ഇന്നുവരെയും പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

7. It was he who slaughtered the Edomites in the Valley of Salt, ten thousand of them, and captured the Rock; he gave it the name Joktheel, which it bears to the present day.

8. ആ കാലത്തു അമസ്യാവു യേഹൂവിന്റെ മകനായ യെഹോവാഹാസിന്റെ മകന് യെഹോവാശ് എന്ന യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുവരിക, നാം തമ്മില് ഒന്നു നോക്കുക എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

8. Amaziah then sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, saying, 'Come and make a trial of strength!'

9. അതിന്നു യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവായ യെഹോവാശ് യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ അമസ്യാവിന്നു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞയച്ചതുലെബാനോനിലെ മുള്പ്പടര്പ്പു ലെബാനോനിലെ ദേവദാരുവോടുനിന്റെ മകളെ എന്റെ മകന്നു ഭാര്യയായി തരിക എന്നു ആളയച്ചു പറയിച്ചു; എന്നാല് ലെബാനോനിലെ ഒരു കാട്ടുമൃഗം കടന്നുപോകയില് മുള്പ്പടര്പ്പിനെ ചവിട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

9. Jehoash king of Israel sent back word to Amaziah king of Judah, 'The thistle of Lebanon sent a message to the cedar of Lebanon, saying, 'Give my son your daughter in marriage'; but a wild animal of the Lebanon ran over the thistle and squashed it.

10. എദോമ്യരെ തോല്പിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു നീ നിഗളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; പ്രശംസിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നിന്റെ വീട്ടില് ഇരുന്നുകൊള്ക; നീയും നിന്നോടുകൂടെ യെഹൂദയും വീഴുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം അനര്ത്ഥത്തില് ചെന്നു ചാടുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? എന്നാല് അമസ്യാവു കേട്ടില്ല.

10. You have conquered Edom and now aspire to even greater glory. Stay where you belong! Why provoke disaster, to your own and Judah's ruin?'

11. ആകയാല് യിസ്രായേല് രാജാവായ യെഹോവാശ് പുറപ്പെട്ടുചെന്നു, യെഹൂദെക്കുള്ള ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശില്വെച്ചു അവനും യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ അമസ്യാവും തമ്മില് നേരിട്ടു.

11. But Amaziah would not listen, so Jehoash king of Israel marched to the attack. And at Beth-Shemesh, which belongs to Judah, he and Amaziah king of Judah made their trial of strength.

12. യെഹൂദാ യിസ്രായേലിനോടു തോറ്റു ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി.

12. Judah was defeated by Israel, and everyone fled to his tent.

13. അഹസ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യെഹോവാശിന്റെ മകന് അമസ്യാവു എന്ന യെഹൂദാരാജാവിനെ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവായ യെഹോവാശ് ബേത്ത്-ശേമെശില്വെച്ചു പിടിച്ചിട്ടു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു വന്നു, യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ മതില് എഫ്രയീംപടിവാതില്മുതല് കോണ്പടിവാതില്വരെ നാനൂറു മുഴം ഇടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

13. The king of Judah, Amaziah son of Jehoash, son of Ahaziah, was taken prisoner at Beth-Shemesh by Jehoash king of Israel who led him off to Jerusalem, where he demolished four hundred cubits of the city wall between the Ephraim Gate and the Corner Gate;

14. അവന് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലും രാജധാനിയിലെ ഭണ്ഡാരത്തിലും കണ്ട പൊന്നും വെള്ളിയുമൊക്കെയും സകലഉപകരങ്ങളും എടുത്തു ജാമ്യക്കാരെയും പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ശമര്യ്യയിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

14. all the gold and silver, and all the vessels to be found in the Temple of Yahweh and in the palace treasury, and hostages besides, he then took back with him to Samaria.

15. യെഹോവാശ് ചെയ്ത മറ്റുള്ള വൃത്താന്തങ്ങളും അവന്റെ പരാക്രമപ്രവൃത്തികളും അവന് യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ അമസ്യാവോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തതും യിസ്രായേല്രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ വൃത്താന്തപുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

15. The rest of the history of Jehoash, his entire career, his prowess, how he waged war on Amaziah king of Judah, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?

16. പിന്നെ യെഹോവാശ് തന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെ നിദ്രപ്രാപിച്ചു. അവനെ ശമര്യ്യയില് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് അടക്കംചെയ്തു; അവന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാം അവന്നു പകരം രാജാവായി.

16. Then Joash fell asleep with his ancestors, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; his son Jeroboam succeeded him.

17. യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവായ യെഹോവാഹാസിന്റെ മകനായ യെഹോവാശിന്റെ മരണശേഷം യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യോവാശിന്റെ മകന് അമസ്യാവു പതിനഞ്ചു സംവത്സരം ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു.

17. Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel.

18. അമസ്യാവിന്റെ മറ്റുള്ള വൃത്താന്തങ്ങള് യെഹൂദാരാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ വൃത്താന്തപുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

19. യെരൂശലേമില് അവന്നു വിരോധമായി ഒരു കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടായിട്ടു അവന് ലാഖീശിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി; എന്നാല് അവര് അവന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ലാഖീശിലേക്കു ആളയച്ചു അവിടെവെച്ചു അവനെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

19. A plot having been hatched against him in Jerusalem, he fled to Lachish; but he was followed to Lachish where he was murdered.

20. അവനെ കുതിരപ്പുറത്തുവെച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു യെരൂശലേമില് ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തില് തന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് അടക്കം ചെയ്തു.

20. He was then transported by horse and buried in Jerusalem with his ancestors in the City of David.

21. യെഹൂദാജനമൊക്കെയും പതിനാറു വയസ്സു പ്രായമുള്ള അസര്യ്യാവെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അവന്റെ അപ്പനായ അമസ്യാവിന്നു പകരം രാജാവാക്കി.

21. All the people of Judah then chose Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in succession to his father Amaziah.

22. രാജാവു തന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെ നിദ്രപ്രാപിച്ചശേഷം ഏലത്ത് പണിതതും അതിനെ യെഹൂദെക്കു വീണ്ടുകൊണ്ടതും ഇവന് തന്നേ.

22. It was he who rebuilt Elath, recovering it for Judah, after the king had fallen asleep with his ancestors.

23. യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യോവാശിന്റെ മകന് അമസ്യാവിന്റെ പതിനഞ്ചാം ആണ്ടില് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവായ യോവാശിന്റെ മകന് യൊരോബെയാം രാജാവായി ശമര്യ്യയില് നാല്പത്തൊന്നു സംവത്സരം വാണു.

23. In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Joash became king of Israel in Samaria. He reigned for forty-one years.

24. അവന് യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു, യിസ്രായേലിനെക്കൊണ്ടു പാപം ചെയ്യിച്ച നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാമിന്റെ പാപങ്ങളൊന്നും വിട്ടുമാറിയില്ല.

24. He did what is displeasing to Yahweh and did not give up any of the sins into which Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel.

25. ഗത്ത്-ഹേഫര്കാരനായ അമിത്ഥായിയുടെ മകനായ യോനാപ്രവാചകന് എന്ന തന്റെ ദാസന് മുഖാന്തരം യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത വചനപ്രകാരം അവന് ഹമാത്തിന്റെ അതിര്മുതല് അരാബയിലെ കടല്വരെ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദേശത്തെ വീണ്ടും സ്വാധീനമാക്കി.

25. It was he who recovered the territory of Israel from the Pass of Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, in accordance with the word which Yahweh, God of Israel, had spoken through his servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath-Hepher.

26. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ കഷ്ടത എത്രയും കഠിനം, സ്വതന്ത്രനോ അസ്വതന്ത്രനോ ഇല്ല, യിസ്രായേലിന്നു സഹായം ചെയ്യുന്നവനുമില്ല എന്നു യഹോവ കണ്ടിട്ടു,

26. For Yahweh had seen how very bitter the affliction of Israel was, with no one, either fettered or free, to come to Israel's help.

27. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ പേര് ആകാശത്തിന് കീഴില്നിന്നു മായിച്ചുകളയും എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യാതെ യോവാശിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാംമുഖാന്തരം അവരെ രക്ഷിച്ചു.

27. But Yahweh had resolved not to blot out the name of Israel under heaven; he rescued them by means of Jeroboam son of Joash.

28. യൊരോബെയാമിന്റെ മറ്റുള്ള വൃത്താന്തങ്ങളും അവന് ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും അവന് യുദ്ധംചെയ്തതും യെഹൂദെക്കു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ദമ്മേശെക്കും ഹമാത്തും യിസ്രായേലിന്നു വീണ്ടുകൊണ്ടതില് അവന് കാണിച്ച പരാക്രമവും യിസ്രായേല്രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ വൃത്താന്തപുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

28. The rest of the history of Jeroboam, his entire career, his prowess, what wars he waged, how he brought Damascus and Hamath back to their allegiance to Judah and Israel, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?

29. യൊരോബെയാം യിസ്രായേല്രാജാക്കന്മാരായ തന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെ നിദ്രപ്രാപിച്ചു; അവന്റെ മകനായ സെഖര്യ്യാവു അവന്നു പകരം രാജാവായി.

29. Then Jeroboam fell asleep with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; his son Zechariah succeeded him.
