1. യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ ആഹാസിന്റെ പന്ത്രണ്ടാം ആണ്ടില് ഏലയുടെ മകനായ ഹോശേയ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായി ശമര്യ്യയില് ഒമ്പതു സംവത്സരം വാണു.

1. In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea the son of Elah began to reign in Samaria over Israel, and he reigned nine years.

2. അവന് യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു; തനിക്കു മുമ്പുള്ള യിസ്രായേല്രാജാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെ അല്ലതാനും.

2. And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, yet not as the kings of Israel who were before him.

3. അവന്റെ നേരെ അശ്ശൂര് രാജാവായ ശല്മനേസെര് പുറപ്പെട്ടു വന്നു; ഹോശേയ അവന്നു ആശ്രിതനായിത്തീര്ന്നു കപ്പം കൊടുത്തുവന്നു.

3. Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria. And Hoshea became his vassal and paid him tribute.

4. എന്നാല് ഹോശേയ മിസ്രയീംരാജാവായ സോവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയക്കയും അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവിന്നു ആണ്ടുതോറുമുള്ള കപ്പം കൊടുത്തയക്കാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്തതുനിമിത്തം അശ്ശൂര് രാജാവു അവനില് ദ്രോഹം കണ്ടിട്ടു അവനെ പിടിച്ചു ബന്ധിച്ചു കാരാഗൃഹത്തില് ആക്കി.

4. But the king of Assyria found treachery in Hoshea, for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison.

5. അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവു രാജ്യത്തു എല്ലാടവും കൂടി കടന്നു ശമര്യ്യയിലേക്കു വന്നു അതിനെ മൂന്നു സംവത്സരം നിരോധിച്ചു.

5. Then the king of Assyria invaded all the land and came to Samaria, and for three years he besieged it.

6. ഹോശേയയുടെ ഒമ്പതാം ആണ്ടില് അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവു ശമര്യ്യയെ പിടിച്ചു യിസ്രായേലിനെ ബദ്ധരാക്കി അശ്ശൂരിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി, ഹലഹിലും ഗോസാന് നദീതീരത്തിലെ ഹാബോരിലും മേദ്യരുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലും പാര്പ്പിച്ചു.

6. In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria, and he carried the Israelites away to Assyria and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

7. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് തങ്ങളെ മിസ്രയീംരാജാവായ ഫറവോന്റെ കൈക്കീഴില്നിന്നു വിടുവിച്ചു മിസ്രയീംദേശത്തുനിന്നു പുറപ്പെടടുവിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്ന തങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു പാപം ചെയ്തു അന്യദൈവങ്ങളെ ഭജിക്കയും

7. And this occurred because the people of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods

8. യഹോവ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളുടെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞിരുന്ന ജാതികളുടെ ചട്ടങ്ങളെയും അവയെ നടപ്പാക്കിയ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ ചട്ടങ്ങളെയും അനുസരിച്ചുനടക്കയും ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു ഇങ്ങനെ സംഭവിച്ചു.

8. and walked in the customs of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel, and in the customs that the kings of Israel had practiced.

9. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് തങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു വിരോധമായി കൊള്ളരുതാത്തകാര്യങ്ങളെ രഹസ്യമായി ചെയ്തു കാവല്ക്കാരുടെ ഗോപുരംമുതല് ഉറപ്പുള്ള പട്ടണംവരെ തങ്ങളുടെ എല്ലാപട്ടണങ്ങളിലും പൂജാഗിരികള് പണിതു.

9. And the people of Israel did secretly against the LORD their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city.

10. അവര് ഉയര്ന്ന കുന്നിന്മേലൊക്കെയും പച്ചവൃക്ഷത്തിന് കീഴിലൊക്കെയും വിഗ്രഹസ്തംഭങ്ങളും അശേരാപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളും സ്ഥാപിച്ചു.

10. They set up for themselves pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree,

11. യഹോവ തങ്ങളുടെ മുമ്പില് നിന്നു നീക്കക്കളഞ്ഞിരുന്ന ജാതികളെപ്പോലെ അവര് സകലപൂജാഗിരികളിലും ധൂപം കാട്ടി യഹോവയെ കോപിപ്പിപ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ദോഷമായുള്ള കാര്യങ്ങളെ പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു.

11. and there they made offerings on all the high places, as the nations did whom the LORD carried away before them. And they did wicked things, provoking the LORD to anger,

12. ഈ കാര്യം ചെയ്യരുതു എന്നു യഹോവ അവരോടു വിലക്കിയിരുന്ന വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെ അവര് ചെന്നു സേവിച്ചു.

12. and they served idols, of which the LORD had said to them, 'You shall not do this.'

13. എന്നാല് യഹോവ സകലപ്രവാചകന്മാരും ദര്ശകന്മാരും മുഖാന്തരം യിസ്രായേലിനോടും യെഹൂദയോടുംനിങ്ങളുടെ ദുര്മ്മാര്ഗ്ഗങ്ങളെ വിട്ടു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു കല്പിച്ചതും എന്റെ ദാസന്മാരായ പ്രവാചകന്മാര്മുഖാന്തരം നിങ്ങള്ക്കു അയച്ചുതന്നതുമായ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണമൊക്കെയും എന്റെ കല്പനകളും ചട്ടങ്ങളും പ്രമാണിച്ചുനടപ്പിന് എന്നു സാക്ഷീകരിച്ചു.

13. Yet the LORD warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and every seer, saying, 'Turn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the Law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets.'

14. എങ്കിലും അവര് കേള്ക്കാതെ തങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയില് വിശ്വസിക്കാതിരുന്ന പിതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെ ദുശ്ശാഠ്യം കാണിച്ചു,

14. But they would not listen, but were stubborn, as their fathers had been, who did not believe in the LORD their God.

15. അവന്റെ ചട്ടങ്ങളെയും അവരുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു അവന് ചെയ്ത നിയമത്തെയും അവന് അവരോടു സാക്ഷീകരിച്ച സാക്ഷ്യങ്ങളെയും നിരസിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; അവര് വ്യാജത്തെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു വ്യര്ത്ഥന്മാരായിത്തീര്ന്നു; അവരെപ്പോലെ ആചരിക്കരുതു എന്നു യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചിരുന്ന ചുറ്റുമുള്ള ജാതികളെ തന്നേ അവര് പിന്തുടര്ന്നു.

15. They despised his statutes and his covenant that he made with their fathers and the warnings that he gave them. They went after false idols and became false, and they followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom the LORD had commanded them that they should not do like them.

16. അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനകളെ ഒക്കെയും ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു തങ്ങള്ക്കു രണ്ടു കാളകൂട്ടികളുടെ വിഗ്രഹങ്ങള് വാര്പ്പിച്ചു അശേരാപ്രതിഷ്ഠയും ഉണ്ടാക്കി; ആകാശത്തിലെ സര്വ്വസൈന്യത്തെയും നമസ്കരിച്ചു ബാലിനെയും സേവിച്ചുപോന്നു.

16. And they abandoned all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made for themselves metal images of two calves; and they made an Asherah and worshiped all the host of heaven and served Baal.

17. അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും അഗ്നിപ്രവേശം ചെയ്യിച്ചു പ്രശ്നവും ആഭിചാരവും പ്രയോഗിച്ചു യഹോവയെ കോപിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന്നു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്വാന് തങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ വിറ്റുകളഞ്ഞു.

17. And they burned their sons and their daughters as offerings and used divination and omens and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger.

18. അതുനിമിത്തം യഹോവ യിസ്രായേലിനോടു ഏറ്റവും കോപിച്ചു അവരെ തന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രം മാത്രമല്ലാതെ ആരും ശേഷിച്ചില്ല.

18. Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel and removed them out of his sight. None was left but the tribe of Judah only.

19. യെഹൂദയും തങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനകളെ പ്രമാണിക്കാതെ യിസ്രായേല് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ ചട്ടങ്ങളെ അനുസരിച്ചു നടന്നു.

19. Judah also did not keep the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the customs that Israel had introduced.

20. ആകയാല് യഹോവ യിസ്രായേല്സന്തതിയെ മുഴുവനും തള്ളി അവരെ താഴ്ത്തി, കൊള്ളയിടുന്നവരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു, ഒടുവില് അവരെ തന്റെ സന്നിധിയില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

20. And the LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel and afflicted them and gave them into the hand of plunderers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

21. അവന് യിസ്രായേലിനെ ദാവീദ് ഗൃഹത്തിങ്കല്നിന്നു പറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; അവര് നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാമിനെ രാജാവാക്കി; യൊരോബെയാം യിസ്രായേലിനെ യഹോവയെ വിട്ടുമാറുമാറാക്കി അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു വലിയോരു പാപം ചെയ്യിച്ചു.

21. When he had torn Israel from the house of David, they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king. And Jeroboam drove Israel from following the LORD and made them commit great sin.

22. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് യൊരോബെയാം ചെയ്ത സകലപാപങ്ങളിലും നടന്നു.

22. The people of Israel walked in all the sins that Jeroboam did. They did not depart from them,

23. അവര് അവയെ വിട്ടുമാറായ്കയാല് യഹോവ പ്രാവചകന്മാരായ തന്റെ സകലദാസന്മാരും മുഖാന്തരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്തപ്രാകരം ഒടുവില് യിസ്രായേലിനെ തന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു. ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല് സ്വദേശം വിട്ടു അശ്ശൂരിലേക്കു പോകേണ്ടിവന്നു; ഇന്നുവരെ അവിടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

23. until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had spoken by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was exiled from their own land to Assyria until this day.

24. അശ്ശൂര് രാജാവു ബാബേല്, കൂഥാ, അവ്വ, ഹമാത്ത്, സെഫര്വ്വയീം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളില്നിന്നു ആളുകളെ വരുത്തി യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്ക്കു പകരം ശമര്യ്യാപട്ടണങ്ങളില് പാര്പ്പിച്ചു; അവര് ശമര്യ്യകൈവശമാക്കി അതിന്റെ പട്ടണങ്ങളില് പാര്ത്തു.

24. And the king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath, and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the people of Israel. And they took possession of Samaria and lived in its cities.

25. അവര് അവിടെ പാര്പ്പാന് തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് യഹോവയെ ഭജിച്ചില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവ അവരുടെ ഇടയില് സിംഹങ്ങളെ അയച്ചു; അവ അവരില് ചിലരെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

25. And at the beginning of their dwelling there, they did not fear the LORD. Therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which killed some of them.

26. അപ്പോള് അവര് അശ്ശൂര് രാജാവിനെ അറിയിച്ചതുനീ കുടിനീക്കി ശമര്യ്യാപട്ടണങ്ങളില് പാര്പ്പിച്ച ജാതികള് ആദേശത്തിലെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മാര്ഗ്ഗം അറിയായ്കകൊണ്ടു അവന് അവരുടെ ഇടയില് സിംഹങ്ങളെ അയച്ചു; അവര് ആ ദേശത്തിലെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മാര്ഗ്ഗം അറിയായ്കയാല് അവ അവരെ കൊന്നുകളയുന്നു.

26. So the king of Assyria was told, 'The nations that you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they are killing them, because they do not know the law of the god of the land.'

27. അതിന്നു അശ്ശൂര് രാജാവുനിങ്ങള് അവിടെനിന്നു കൊണ്ടുവന്ന പുരോഹിതന്മാരില് ഒരുത്തനെ അവിടേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുവിന് ; അവര് ചെന്നു അവിടെ പാര്ക്കയും അവര് ആ ദേശത്തെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മാര്ഗ്ഗം അവരെ ഉപദേശിക്കയും ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

27. Then the king of Assyria commanded, 'Send there one of the priests whom you carried away from there, and let him go and dwell there and teach them the law of the god of the land.'

28. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ശമര്യ്യയില്നിന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോയിരുന്ന പുരോഹിതന്മാരില് ഒരുത്തന് വന്നു ബേഥേലില് പാര്ത്തു; യഹോവയെ ഭജിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന വിധം അവര്ക്കും ഉപദേശിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു.

28. So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel and taught them how they should fear the LORD.

29. എങ്കിലും അതതു ജാതി താന്താന്റെ ദേവന്മാരെ ഉണ്ടാക്കി, ഔരോ ജാതി പാര്ത്തുവന്ന പട്ടണങ്ങളില് ശമര്യ്യര് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിരുന്ന പൂജാഗിരിക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില് പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു.

29. But every nation still made gods of its own and put them in the shrines of the high places that the Samaritans had made, every nation in the cities in which they lived.

30. ബാബേല്കാര് സുക്കോത്ത്-ബെനോത്തിനെ ഉണ്ടാക്കി; കൂഥക്കാര് നേര്ഗാലിനെ ഉണ്ടാക്കി; ഹമാത്ത്കാര് അശീമയെ ഉണ്ടാക്കി;

30. The men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, the men of Cuth made Nergal, the men of Hamath made Ashima,

31. അവ്വക്കാര് നിബ്ഹസിനെയും തര്ത്തക്കിനെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കി; സെഫര്വ്വക്കാര് സെഫര്വ്വയീംദേവന്മാരായ അദ്രമേലെക്കിന്നും അനമേലെക്കിന്നും തങ്ങളുടെ മക്കളെ അഗ്നിപ്രവേശനം ചെയ്യിച്ചു.

31. and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.

32. അവര് യഹോവയെ ഭജിക്കയും തങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു തന്നേ പൂജാഗിരിപുരോഹിതന്മാരെ നിയമിക്കയും അവര് അവര്ക്കും വേണ്ടി പൂജാഗിരിക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില് യാഗം കഴിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.

32. They also feared the LORD and appointed from among themselves all sorts of people as priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the shrines of the high places.

33. അങ്ങനെ അവര് യഹോവയെ ഭജിക്കയും തങ്ങള് വിട്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടു പോന്ന ജാതികളുടെ മര്യാദപ്രകാരം സ്വന്ത ദേവന്മാരെ സേവിക്കയും ചെയ്തുപോന്നു.

33. So they feared the LORD but also served their own gods, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.

34. ഇന്നുവരെയും അവര് മുമ്പിലത്തെ മര്യാദപ്രകാരം തന്നേ ചെയ്യുന്നു; യഹോവയെ ഭജിക്കുന്നില്ല; തങ്ങളുടെ സ്വന്തചട്ടങ്ങളെയും മാര്ഗ്ഗവിധികളെയും ആകട്ടെ, യഹോവ യിസ്രായേല് എന്നു പേര്വിളിച്ച യക്കോബിന്റെ മക്കളോടു കല്പിച്ച ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തെയും കല്പനയെയുമാകട്ടെ അനുസരിച്ചുനടക്കുന്നതുമില്ല.

34. To this day they do according to the former manner. They do not fear the LORD, and they do not follow the statutes or the rules or the law or the commandment that the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel.

35. യഹോവ അവരോടു ഒരു നിയമം ചെയ്തു കല്പിച്ചതു എന്തെന്നാല്നിങ്ങള് അന്യദൈവങ്ങളെ ഭജിക്കയും അവേക്കു യാഗംകഴിക്കയും ചെയ്യാതെ

35. The LORD made a covenant with them and commanded them, 'You shall not fear other gods or bow yourselves to them or serve them or sacrifice to them,

36. നിങ്ങളെ മഹാശക്തികൊണ്ടും നീട്ടിയ ഭുജംകൊണ്ടും മിസ്രയീംദേശത്തുനിന്നു കൊണ്ടുവന്ന യഹോവയെ മാത്രം ഭജിക്കയും അവനെ മാത്രം നമസ്കരിക്കയും അവന്നു മാത്രം യാഗംകഴിക്കയും വേണം.

36. but you shall fear the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm. You shall bow yourselves to him, and to him you shall sacrifice.

37. അവന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു എഴുതിത്തന്ന ചട്ടങ്ങളെയും ന്യായങ്ങളെയും ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തെയും കല്പനയെയും നിങ്ങള് എല്ലാനാളും പ്രമാണിച്ചുനടക്കേണം; അന്യദൈവങ്ങളെ ഭജിക്കരുതു.

37. And the statutes and the rules and the law and the commandment that he wrote for you, you shall always be careful to do. You shall not fear other gods,

38. ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു ചെയ്ത നിയമം നിങ്ങള് മറക്കരുതു; അന്യ ദൈവങ്ങളെ ഭജിക്കയുമരുതു.

38. and you shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you. You shall not fear other gods,

39. നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ മാത്രം നിങ്ങള് ഭജിക്കേണം; എന്നാല് അവന് നിങ്ങളെ നിങ്ങളുടെ സകലശത്രുക്കളുടെയും കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കും.

39. but you shall fear the LORD your God, and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.'

40. എങ്കിലും അവര് കേള്ക്കാതെ തങ്ങളുടെ പണ്ടത്തെ മര്യാദ അനുസരിച്ചു നടന്നു.

40. However, they would not listen, but they did according to their former manner.

41. അങ്ങനെ ഈ ജാതികള് യഹോവയെ ഭജിക്കയും തങ്ങളുടെ വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെ സേവിക്കയും ചെയ്തു; പിതാക്കന്മാര് ചെയ്തതുപോലെ പുത്രന്മാരും പൌത്രന്മാരും ഇന്നുവരെ ചെയ്തുവരുന്നു.

41. So these nations feared the LORD and also served their carved images. Their children did likewise, and their children's children- as their fathers did, so they do to this day.
