1. അനന്തരം യിസ്രായേലെല്ലാം ഹെബ്രോനില് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി പറഞ്ഞതുഞങ്ങള് നിന്റെ അസ്ഥിയും മാംസവും അല്ലോ.

1. Then did all Israel gather themselves together to David, unto Hebron, saying, Lo! thy bone and thy flesh, are we.

2. മുമ്പെ ശൌല് രാജാവായിരുന്ന കാലത്തും നീയായിരുന്നു നായകനായി യിസ്രായേലിനെ നടത്തിയതുനീ എന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിനെ മേയ്ക്കയും എന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു പ്രഭുവായിരിക്കയും ചെയ്യുമെന്നു നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നിന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിട്ടുമുണ്ടു.

2. Moreover also, in time past even when Saul was king, thou, wast he that led out and brought in Israel, and Yahweh thy God said unto thee, Thou, shalt shepherd my people Israel, Yea, thou, shalt be chief ruler, over my people Israel.

3. ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്മൂപ്പന്മാരൊക്കെയും ഹെബ്രോനില് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; ദാവീദ് ഹെബ്രോനില്വെച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് അവരോടു ഉടമ്പടി ചെയ്തു; ശമൂവേല്മുഖാന്തരം യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു പോലെ അവര് ദാവീദിനെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തു.

3. Thus came all the elders of Israel unto the king, to Hebron, and David solemnised to them a covenant in Hebron, before Yahweh, and they anointed David to be king over Israel, according to the word of Yahweh, through Samuel.

4. പിന്നെ ദാവീദും എല്ലായിസ്രായേലും യെബൂസ് എന്ന യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു ചെന്നു. അവിടെ ദേശനിവാസികളായ യെബൂസ്യര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

4. Then went David and all Israel to Jerusalem, the same, was Jebus, where were the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land.

5. യെബൂസ് നിവാസികള് ദാവീദിനോടുനീ ഇവിടെ കടക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; എങ്കിലും ദാവീദ് സീയോന് കോട്ട പിടിച്ചു; അതു ആകുന്നു ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരം.

5. And the inhabitants of Jebus said unto David, Thou shalt not come in hither, But David captured the citadel of Zion, the same, is the city of David.

6. എന്നാല് ദാവീദ്ആരെങ്കിലും യെബൂസ്യരെ ആദ്യം തോല്പിച്ചാല് അവന് തലവനും സേനാധിപതിയും ആയിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ സെരൂയയുടെ മകന് യോവാബ് ആദ്യം കയറിച്ചെന്നു തലവനായിത്തീര്ന്നു.

6. And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites, first, shall become a chief, and a ruler, So then Joab son of Zeruiah, went up first, and became a chief.

7. ദാവീദ് ആ കോട്ടയില് പാര്ത്തതു കൊണ്ടു അതിന്നു ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരം എന്നു പേരായി.

7. And David dwelt in the citadel, for this cause, did they call it, The City of David.

8. പിന്നെ അവന് നഗരത്തെ മില്ലോ തുടങ്ങി ചുറ്റും പണിതു ഉറപ്പിച്ചു; നഗരത്തിന്റെ ശേഷമുള്ള ഭാഗം യോവാബ് കേടുതീര്ത്തു.

8. And he built the city round about, from Millo even as far as the circuit, but, Joab, suffered the remainder of the city to live.

9. സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ തന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതിനാല് ദാവീദ് മേലക്കുമേല് പ്രബലനായിത്തീര്ന്നു.

9. Thus did David wax greater and yet greater, and, Yahweh of Hosts, was with him.

10. ദാവീദിന്നു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പ്രധാന വീരന്മാര് ആവിതുയിസ്രായേലിനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള യഹോവയുടെ വചനപ്രകാരം അവനെ രാജാവാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവര് എല്ലായിസ്രായേലുമായി രാജത്വം സംബന്ധിച്ചു അവന്റെ പക്ഷം മുറുകെ പിടിച്ചു.

10. Now, these, are the chiefs of the heroes, that pertained to David, who held strongly with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of Yahweh, concerning Israel.

11. ദാവീദിന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്ന വീരന്മാരുടെ സംഖ്യയാവിതുമുപ്പതുപേരില് പ്രധാനിയായി ഒരു ഹഖമോന്യന്റെ മകനായ യാശോബെയാം; അവന് മുന്നൂറുപേരുടെ നേരെ കുന്തം ഔങ്ങി ഒരേ സമയത്തു അവരെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

11. And, this, is the number of the heroes who pertained to David, Jashobeam son of a Hachmonite, chief of the thirty, the same, brandished his spear over three hundred slain at one time.

12. അവന്റെ ശേഷം അഹോഹ്യനായ ദോദോവിന്റെ മകന് എലെയാസാര്; അവന് മൂന്നു വീരന്മാരില് ഒരുത്തന് ആയിരുന്നു.

12. And, after him, was Eleazar son of Dodai, the Ahohite, he, was among the three heroes;

13. ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് പസ്-ദമ്മീമില് യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു കൂടിയപ്പോള് അവന് അവിടെ ദാവീദിനോടു കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അവിടെ യവം നിറഞ്ഞ ഒരു വയല് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; പടജ്ജനം ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ഔടിപ്പോയി.

13. he, was with David in Pas-dammim, where, the Philistines, were gathered together to battle, and there was a field-plot full of barley, and, the people, fled, from before the Philistines;

14. എന്നാല് അവര് ആ വയലിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യേ നിന്നു അതിനെ കാത്തു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു; യഹോവ അവര്ക്കും വലിയോരു ജയം നല്കി.

14. so they took their stand in the midst of the plot and rescued it, and smote the Philistines, and Yahweh wrought a great victory.

15. ഒരിക്കല് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ സൈന്യം രെഫയീംതാഴ്വരയില് പാളയമിറങ്ങിയിരിക്കുമ്പോള് മുപ്പതു തലവന്മാരില് മൂന്നുപേര് പാറയിങ്കല് അദുല്ലാംഗുഹയില് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു.

15. And three of the thirty chiefs went down upon the rock, unto David, into the cave of Adullam, a host of Philistines, being encamped in the vale of Rephaim.

16. അന്നു ദാവീദ് ദുര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് ആയിരുന്നു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യര്ക്കും അക്കാലത്തു ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് ഒരു കാവല്പ്പട്ടാളം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

16. Now, David, then was in the stronghold, and, a garrison of Philistines, then was in Bethlehem.

17. ബേത്ത്ളേഹെംപട്ടണവാതില്ക്കലെ കിണറ്റില്നിന്നു വെള്ളം എനിക്കു കുടിപ്പാന് ആര് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു തരും എന്നു ദാവീദ് ആര്ത്തിപൂണ്ടു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. And David longed, and said Who will give me to drink of the water, out of the well of Bethlehem, that is within the gate?

18. അപ്പോള് ആ മൂന്നു പേരും ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ പാളയത്തില്കൂടി കടന്നുചെന്നു ബേത്ത്ളേഹെംപട്ടണവാതില്ക്കലെ കിണറ്റില്നിന്നു വെള്ളംകോരി ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; ദാവീദോ അതു കുടിപ്പാന് മനസ്സില്ലാതെ യഹോവേക്കു നിവേദിച്ചു ഒഴിച്ചു

18. And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was within the gate, and bare it, and brought it in unto David, yet would not David drink it, but poured it out unto Yahweh;

19. ഇതു ചെയ്വാന് എന്റെ ദൈവം എനിക്കു സംഗതി വരുത്തരുതേ; തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രാണനെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു പോയ പുരുഷന്മാരുടെ രക്തം ഞാന് കുടിക്കയോ? അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രാണനെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചല്ലോ അതു കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവന്നു അതു കുടിപ്പാന് മനസ്സായില്ല; ഇതാകുന്നു ഈ മൂന്നു വീരന്മാര് ചെയ്തതു.

19. and said Far be it from me, of my God, that I should do this! The blood of these men, shall I drink, with their lives? For, with their lives, have they brought it! So he would not drink it. These things, did the three heroes.

20. യോവാബിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അബീശായി മൂവരില് തലവനായിരുന്നു; അവന് മുന്നൂറുപേരുടെ നേരെ കുന്തം ഔങ്ങി, അവരെ കൊന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് ആ മൂവരില്വെച്ചു കീര്ത്തിപ്രാപിച്ചു;

20. And, Abishai brother of Joab he, was the chief of three, he, having brandished his spear against three hundred who were slain, and so, he, had a name among three.

21. ഈ മൂവരില് രണ്ടുപേരെക്കാള് അധികം മാനം അവന് പ്രാപിച്ചു അവര്ക്കും നായകനായ്തീര്ന്നു; എന്നാല് അവന് മറ്റെ മൂവരോളം വരികയില്ല.

21. Of the three in the second rank, was he honourable, therefore became he their captain, though, unto the first three, did he not attain.

22. കബ്സേലില് ഒരു പരാക്രമശാലിയുടെ മകനായ യെഹോയാദയുടെ മകനായ ബെനായാവും വീര്യപ്രവൃത്തികള് ചെയ്തു അവന് മോവാബിലെ അരീയേലിന്റെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരെ സംഹരിച്ചതല്ലാതെ ഹിമകാലത്തു ഒരു ഗുഹയില് ചെന്നു ഒരു സിംഹത്തെയും കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

22. Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, son of a man of valour, hero of many a deed, from Kabziel he, smote the two sons of Ariel of Moab, he, also went down and smote a lion in the midst of a pit, in time of snow;

23. അവന് അഞ്ചുമുഴം പൊക്കമുള്ള ദീര്ഘകായനായോരു മിസ്രയീമ്യനെയും സംഹരിച്ചു; ആ മിസ്രയീമ്യന്റെ കയ്യില് നെയ്ത്തുകാരന്റെ പടപ്പുതടിപോലെ ഒരു കുന്തം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഇവനോ ഒരു വടിയുംകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു മിസ്രയീമ്യന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു കുന്തം പിടിച്ചു പറിച്ചു കുന്തംകൊണ്ടു അവനെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

23. he, also smote an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits, and, in the hand of the Egyptian, was a spear like a weaver's beam, so he went down unto him with a staff, and wrested the spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, and slew him with his spear.

24. ഇവ യെഹോയാദയുടെ മകനായ ബെനായാവു ചെയ്തു, മൂന്നു വീരന്മാരില്വെച്ചു കീര്ത്തി പ്രാപിച്ചു.

24. These things, did Benaiah son of Jehoiada, so, he, had a name among three heroes.

25. അവന് മുപ്പതു പേരിലും മാനമേറിയവനായിരുന്നു; എങ്കിലും മറ്റേ മൂവരോളം വരികയില്ല. ദാവീദ് അവനെ അകമ്പടിനായകനാക്കി.

25. Among the thirty, lo! honourable, was he, but, unto the first three, did he not attain, howbeit David set him over his council.

26. സൈന്യത്തിലെ വീരന്മാരോ യോവാബിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അസാഹേല്, ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമ്യനായ ദോദോവിന്റെ മകന് എല്ഹാനാന് ,

26. Now, the heroes of the forces, were, Asahel, brother of Joab, Elhanan, son of Dodo, of Bethlehem;

27. ഹരോര്യ്യനായ ശമ്മോത്ത്, പെലോന്യനായ ഹേലെസ്,

27. Shammoth, the Harorite, Helez the Paltite;

28. തെക്കോവ്യനായ ഇക്കേശിന്റെ മകന് ഈരാ, അനാഥോത്യനായ അബീയേസേര്,

28. Ira, son of Ikkesh, the Tekoite, Abiezer, the Anathothite;

29. ഹൂശാത്യനായ സിബെഖായി, അഹോഹ്യനായ ഈലായി, നെതോഫാത്യനായ മഹരായി,

29. Sibbecai, the Hushathite, Ilai, the Ahohite;

30. നെതോഫാത്യനായ ബാനയുടെ മകന് ഹേലെദ്,

30. Maharai, the Netophathite, Heled, son of Baanah, the Netophathite;

31. ബെന്യാമീന്യരുടെ ഗിബെയയില് നിന്നുള്ള രീബായിയുടെ മകന് ഈഥായി, പരാഥോന്യനായ ബെനായാവു,

31. Ithai, son of Ribai, of Gibeah, of the sons of Benjamin, Benaiah, the Pirathonite;

32. നഹലേഗാശില് നിന്നുള്ള ഹൂരായി, അര്ബ്ബാത്യനായ അബീയേല്,

32. Hurai, of the torrents of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite;

33. ബഹരൂമ്യനായ അസ്മാവെത്ത്, ശയല്ബോന്യനായ എല്യഹ്ബാ,

33. Azmaveth, the Baharumite, Eliahba, the Shaalbonite;

34. ഗീസോന്യനായ ഹശേമിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര്, ഹരാര്യ്യനായ ശാഗേയുടെ മകന് യോനാഥാന് ,

34. the sons of Hashem, the Gizonite, Jonathan, son of Shageh, the Hararite;

35. ഹരാര്യ്യനായ സാഖാരിന്റെ മകന് അഹീയാം, ഊരിന്റെ മകന് എലീഫാല്,

35. Ahiam, son of Sacar, the Hararite, Eliphal, son of Ur;

36. മെഖേരാത്യനായ ഹേഫെര്, പെലോന്യനായ അഹീയാവു, കര്മ്മേല്യനായ ഹെസ്രോ,

36. Hepher, the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite;

37. എസ്ബായിയുടെ മകന് നയരായി,

37. Hezro, the Carmelite, Naarai, son of Ezbai;

38. നാഥാന്റെ സഹോദരന് യോവേല്, ഹഗ്രിയുടെ മകന് മിബ്ഹാര്,

38. Joel, brother of Nathan, Mibhar son of Hagri;

39. Zelek, the Ammonite, Naharai, the Berothite, the armour-bearer of Joab son of Zeruiah;

40. യിത്രീയനായ ഈരാ, യിത്രീയനായ ഗാരേബ്,

40. Ira, the Ithrite, Gareb, the Ithrite;

41. ഹിത്യനായ ഊരീയാവു, അഹ്ളായിയുടെ മകന് സാബാദ്, രൂബേന്യരുടെ സേനാപതിയും

41. Uriah, the Hittite, Zabad son of Ahlai;

42. മുപ്പതുപേര് അകമ്പടിയുള്ളവനുമായി രൂബേന്യനായ ശീസയുടെ മകന് അദീനാ,

42. Adina, son of Shiza, the Reubenite, a chief of the Reubenites and over the thirty;

43. മയഖയുടെ മകന് ഹാനാന് , മിത്ന്യനായ യോശാഫാത്ത്,

43. Hanan, son of Maacah, and Joshaphat, the Mithnite;

44. അസ്തെരാത്യനായ ഉസ്സീയാവു, അരോവേര്യ്യനായ ഹോഥാമിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരയ ശാമാ,

44. Uzzia, the Ashterathite, Shama, and Jeiel, sons of Hotham, the Aroerite;

45. യെയീയേല്, ശിമ്രിയുടെ മകനായ യെദീയയേല് തീസ്യനായി അവന്റെ സഹോദരനായ യോഹാ, മഹവ്യനായ എലീയേല്,

45. Jediael, son of Shimri, and Joha, his brother, the Tizite;

46. എല്നാമിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരായ യെരീബായി, യോശവ്യാവു, മോവാബ്യന് യിത്തമാ,

46. Eliel, the Mahavite, and Jeribai and Joshaviah, sons of Elnaam, and Ithmah the Moabite;

47. Eliel, and Obed, and Jaasiel, of Zobah.
