1. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം മോവാബ്യരും അമ്മോന്യരും അവരോടുകൂടെ മെയൂന്യരില് ചിലരും യെഹോശാഫാത്തിന്റെ നേരെ യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു വന്നു.

1. After that came the children of Moab and the children of Ammon and with them the Ammonites against Jehosaphat to battle.

2. ചിലര് വന്നു യെഹോശാഫാത്തിനോടുവലിയോരു ജനസമൂഹം കടലിന്നക്കരെ നിന്നു, അരാമില്നിന്നു നിന്റെ നേരെ വരുന്നു; ഇതാ അവര് ഏന് -ഗെദിയെന്ന ഹസസോന് -താമാരില് ഉണ്ടു എന്നു അറിയിച്ചു.

2. And there came that told Jeshosaphat saying: there cometh a great multitude against thee from the other side the sea out of Siria. And see they be in Hasason Thamar which is Engadi.

3. യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് ഭയപ്പെട്ടു യഹോവയെ അന്വേഷിപ്പാന് താല്പര്യപ്പെട്ടു യെഹൂദയില് ഒക്കെയും ഒരു ഉപവാസം പ്രസിദ്ധംചെയ്തു.

3. And Jehosaphat feared and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed fasting thorowout all Juda.

4. യഹോവയോടു സഹായം ചോദിപ്പാന് യെഹൂദ്യര് ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി; സകല യെഹൂദാനഗരങ്ങളിലുംനിന്നു അവര് യഹോവയെ അന്വേഷിപ്പാന് വന്നു.

4. And Juda gathered themselves together to ask counsel of the LORD. And thereto there came out of all the cities of Juda to seek the LORD.

5. യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് പുതിയ പ്രാകാരത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പില് യെഹൂദയുടെയും യെരൂശലേമിന്റെയും സഭാമദ്ധ്യേ നിന്നുകൊണ്ടു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

5. And Jehosaphat stood in the congregation of Juda and Jerusalem in the house of the LORD before the new court

6. ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, നീ സ്വര്ഗ്ഗസ്ഥനായ ദൈവമല്ലോ; നീ ജാതികളുടെ സകലരാജ്യങ്ങളെയും ഭരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; ആര്ക്കും എതിര്പ്പാന് കഴിയാത്ത ശക്തിയും പരാക്രമവും നിനക്കുണ്ടല്ലോ.

6. and said: LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven, and reignest not thou on all the kingdoms of the heathen? And in thine hand is power and might, that no man can stand before thee.

7. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമേ, നീ നിന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ഈ ദേശത്തിലെ നിവാസികളെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു അതു നിന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനായ അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കു ശാശ്വതമായി കൊടുത്തുവല്ലോ.

7. Art not thou our God which didst cast out the inhabiters of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy lover for ever?

8. അവര് അതില് പാര്ത്തു; ന്യായവിധിയുടെ വാള്, മഹാമാരി, ക്ഷാമം എന്നിങ്ങിനെയുള്ള വല്ല അനര്ത്ഥവും ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വരുമ്പോള്, ഞങ്ങള് ഈ ആലയത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പിലും നിന്റെ സന്നിധിയിലും നിന്നു--നിന്റെ നാമം ഈ ആലയത്തില് ഉണ്ടല്ലോ--ഞങ്ങളുടെ സങ്കടത്തില് നിന്നോടു നിലവിളിക്കയും നീ കേട്ടു രക്ഷവരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. And they dwelt therein and have built thee a temple therein unto thy name, and said:

9. അതില് തിരുനാമത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി നിനക്കു ഒരു വിശുദ്ധമന്ദിരം പണിതു.

9. when evil cometh upon us, as the sword of judgement, pestilence or hunger: then if we stand before this house and before thee (for thy name is in this house) and shall cry unto thee in our tribulation, thou shalt hear and help.

10. യിസ്രായേല് മിസ്രയീംദേശത്തുനിന്നു വരുമ്പോള് അവര് അമ്മോന്യരേയും മോവാബ്യരേയും സേയീര് പര്വ്വതക്കാരെയും ആക്രമിപ്പാന് നീ അനുവാദം കൊടുത്തില്ലല്ലോ; അവര് അവരെ നശിപ്പിക്കാതെ വിട്ടുമാറി.

10. And now behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, by which thou wouldest not let Israel go, when they came out of Egypt: but they departed from them and destroyed them not.

11. ഇപ്പോള് ഇതാ, നീ ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു കൈവശമാക്കിത്തന്ന നിന്റെ അവകാശത്തില്നിന്നു ഞങ്ങളെ നീക്കിക്കളവാന് അവര് വന്നു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഇങ്ങനെ പ്രതിഫലം തരുന്നു.

11. And see, how they reward us, to come for to cast us out of thy possession which thou hast possessed us with all.

12. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമേ, നീ അവരെ ന്യായം വിധിക്കയില്ലയോ? ഞങ്ങളുടെ നേരെ വരുന്ന ഈ വലിയ സമൂഹത്തോടെതിര്പ്പാന് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ശക്തിയില്ല; എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു എന്നു അറിയുന്നതുമില്ല; എങ്കിലും ഞങ്ങളുടെ കണ്ണുകള് നിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

12. O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us. Neither wot we what to do: but our eyes be unto thee.

13. അങ്ങനെ യെഹൂദ്യര് ഒക്കെയും അവരുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളോടും ഭാര്യമാരോടും മക്കളോടും കൂടെ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നിന്നു.

13. And as all Juda stood before the LORD with their young ones, their wives and their children:

14. അപ്പോള് സഭാമദ്ധ്യേവെച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു ആസാഫിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരില് മത്ഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യെയീയേലിന്റെ മകനായ ബെനായാവിന്റെ മകനായ സെഖര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മകന് യഹസീയേല് എന്ന ഒരു ലേവ്യന്റെ മേല് വന്നു.

14. the spirit of the LORD came upon Jahasiel the son of Zachariah the son of Banaiah the son of Jeiel the son of Mathaniah a Levite of the sons of Asaph, even as he was in the midst of the congregation.

15. അവന് പറഞ്ഞതു എന്തെന്നാല്യെഹൂദ്യര് ഒക്കെയും യെരൂശലേംനിവാസികളും യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് രാജാവും ആയുള്ളോരേ, കേട്ടുകൊള്വിന് ; യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം നിങ്ങളോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഈ വലിയ സമൂഹം നിമിത്തം ഭയപ്പെടരുതു, ഭ്രമിക്കയും അരുതു; യുദ്ധം നിങ്ങളുടേതല്ല, ദൈവത്തിന്റെതത്രേ.

15. And he said: hearken all Juda and the inhabiters of Jerusalem, and also king Jehosaphat. Thus sayeth the LORD unto you: be not afeard or faint hearted by reason of this great multitude. For the war is not yours, but God's.

16. നാളെ അവരുടെ നേരെ ചെല്ലുവിന് ; ഇതാ, അവര് സീസ് കയറ്റത്തില്കൂടി കയറി വരുന്നു; നിങ്ങള് അവരെ യെരൂവേല്മരുഭൂമിക്കെതിരെ തോട്ടിന്റെ അറ്റത്തുവെച്ചു കാണും.

16. And tomorrow ye shall go down to them: see, they come up at Zis, and ye shall meet them in the flags of the brook before the wilderness of Jeruel.

17. ഈ പടയില് പൊരുതുവാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ആവശ്യം ഇല്ല; യെഹൂദയും യെരൂശലേമും ആയുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങള് സ്ഥിരമായി നിന്നു യഹോവ നിങ്ങള്ക്കു വരുത്തുന്ന രക്ഷ കണ്ടുകൊള്വിന് ; ഭയപ്പെടരുതു, ഭ്രമിക്കയും അരുതു; നാളെ അവരുടെ നേരെ ചെല്ലുവിന് ; യഹോവ നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടു.

17. Moreover it belongeth not to you for to fight this quarrel: but step forth and stand and behold the help of the LORD which is with you: fear not, nor let your heart fail you, O ye of Juda and of Jerusalem. Tomorrow go out to them: for the LORD is with you.

18. അപ്പോള് യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് സാഷ്ടാംഗം വണങ്ങി; യെഹൂദ്യര് ഒക്കെയും യെരൂശലേം നിവാസികളും യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

18. And Jehosaphat bowed himself with his face to the city, and all Juda and the inhabiters of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, to bow themselves unto the LORD.

19. കെഹാത്യരും കോരഹ്യരുമായ ലേവ്യര് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ അത്യുച്ചത്തില് സ്തുതിപ്പാന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു.

19. And the Levites and the children of the Cahathites and of the Corahites stood up, to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

20. പിന്നെ അവര് അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു തെക്കോവമരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവര് പുറപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള് യഹോശാഫാത്ത് നിന്നുകൊണ്ടുയെഹൂദ്യരും യെരൂശലേംനിവാസികളും ആയുള്ളോരേ, എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്പിന് ; നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയില് വിശ്വസിപ്പിന് ; എന്നാല് നിങ്ങള് ഉറെച്ചുനിലക്കും; അവന്റെ പ്രവാചകന്മാരേയും വിശ്വസിപ്പിന് ; എന്നാല് നിങ്ങള് കൃതാര്്ഥരാകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. And so they arose early in the morning and gat them out unto the wilderness of Thekua. And as they went out Jehosaphat stood and said: hear me Juda and the inhabiters of Jerusalem. Believe in the LORD your God, and so shall ye continue: and believe his prophets and so shall ye prosper.

21. പിന്നെ അവന് ജനത്തോടു ആലോചിച്ചിട്ടു, വിശുദ്ധാലങ്കാരം ധരിച്ചു സൈന്യത്തിന്നു മുമ്പില് നടന്നുകൊണ്ടു വാഴ്ത്തുവാനുംയഹോവയെ സ്തുതിപ്പിന് , അവന്റെ ദയ എന്നേക്കും ഉള്ളതല്ലോ എന്നു ചൊല്ലുവാനും യഹോവേക്കു സംഗീതക്കാരെ നിയമിച്ചു.

21. And he gave the people counsel, and set the singers of the LORD and them that praised in holy apparel, to go out before the army and to say: praise the LORD for his mercy lasteth ever.

22. അവര് പാടി സ്തുതിച്ചു തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള്യഹോവ യെഹൂദെക്കു വിരോധമായി വന്ന അമ്മോന്യരുടെയും മോവാബ്യരുടെയും സേയീര്പര്വ്വതക്കാരുടെയും നേരെ പതിയിരിപ്പുകാരെ വരുത്തി; അങ്ങനെ അവര് തോറ്റുപോയി.

22. And what time they began to laud and praise, then the LORD set layers await against the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir,

23. അമ്മോന്യരും മോവാബ്യരും സേയീര്പര്വ്വതനിവാസികളോടു എതിര്ത്തു അവരെ നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കി നശിപ്പിച്ചു; സേയീര്നിവാസികളെ സംഹരിച്ചശേഷം അവര് അന്യോന്യം നശിപ്പിച്ചു.

23. to destroy them utterly and to wipe them out. And when they had made an end of the inhabiters of Seir, then they holp to destroy each other.

24. യെഹൂദ്യര് മരുഭൂമിയിലെ കാവല് ഗോപുരത്തിന്നരികെ എത്തിയപ്പോള് അവര് പുരുഷാരത്തെ നോക്കി, അവര് നിലത്തു ശവങ്ങളായി കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു; ഒരുത്തനും ചാടിപ്പോയിരുന്നില്ല.

24. And when Juda came to Mazphah in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude. And behold, they were dead carcasses fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

25. യെഹോശാഫാത്തും അവന്റെ പടജ്ജനവും അവരെ കൊള്ളയിടുവാന് വന്നപ്പോള് അവരുടെ ഇടയില് അനവധി സമ്പത്തും വസ്ത്രവും വിശേഷവസ്തുക്കളും കണ്ടെത്തി; തങ്ങള്ക്കു ചുമപ്പാന് കഴിയുന്നതിലധികം ഊരി എടുത്തു; കൊള്ള അധികമുണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് മൂന്നു ദിവസം കൊള്ളയിട്ടുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

25. And Jehosaphat and his people went to rob away the spoil of them and found among them abundance of goods and raiment and of pleasant Jewels, and caught from them more than they could carry away: so that they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

26. നാലാം ദിവസം അവര് ബെരാഖാതാഴ്വരയില് ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി; അവര് അവിടെ യഹോവേക്കു സ്തോത്രം ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ഇന്നുവരെ ബെരാഖാതാഴ്വര എന്നു പേര് പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

26. And the fourth day they assembled in the valley of blessing, for there they blessed the LORD. And therefore they called the name of the said place the valley of blessing unto this day.

27. യഹോവ അവര്ക്കും ശത്രുക്കളുടെമേല് ജയസന്തോഷം നില്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു യെഹൂദ്യരും യെരൂശലേമ്യരും എല്ലാം മുമ്പില് യെഹോശാഫാത്തുമായി സന്തോഷത്തോടെ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു;

27. And so all the men of Juda and Jerusalem returned and Jehosaphat among the thickest of them, for to go again to Jerusalem with gladness: for the LORD had made them to rejoice of their enemies.

28. അവര് വീണകളോടും കിന്നരങ്ങളോടും കാഹളങ്ങളോടുംകൂടെ യെരൂശലേമില് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു ചെന്നു.

28. And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets, even unto the house of the LORD.

29. യഹോവ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു എന്നു കേട്ടപ്പോള് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ഭീതി ആ ദേശങ്ങളിലെ സകലരാജ്യങ്ങളിന്മേലും വന്നു.

29. And the fear of God fell in the kingdoms of all lands, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.

30. ഇങ്ങനെ അവന്റെ ദൈവം ചുറ്റും വിശ്രമം നല്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു യെഹോശാഫാത്തിന്റെ രാജ്യം സ്വസ്ഥമായിരുന്നു.

30. And so the realm of Jehosaphat was in tranquillity: for his God had given him rest on every side.

31. യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് യെഹൂദയില് വാണു; വാണുതുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് അവന്നു മുപ്പത്തഞ്ചുവയസ്സായിരുന്നു; അവന് ഇരുപത്തഞ്ചു സംവത്സരം യെരൂശലേമില് വാണു; അവന്റെ അമ്മെക്കു അസൂബാ എന്നു പേര്; അവള് ശില്ഹിയുടെ മകള് ആയിരുന്നു.

31. And Jehosaphat reigned upon Juda, and was thirty five year old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty five year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Asuba the daughter of Silhi.

32. അവന് തന്റെ അപ്പനായ ആസയുടെ വഴിയില് നടന്നു അതു വിട്ടുമാറാതെ യഹോവേക്കു പ്രസാദമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു.

32. And he walked in the way of Asa his father and bowed not therefrom, to do that was pleasant in the sight of the LORD.

33. എങ്കിലും പൂജാഗിരികള്ക്കു നീക്കം വന്നില്ല; ജനം തങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവത്തിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിച്ചതുമില്ല.

33. How be it they put not down the hillaltars, neither did the people yet prepare their hearts unto the God of their fathers.

34. യെഹോശാഫാത്തിന്റെ മറ്റുള്ള വൃത്താന്തങ്ങള് ആദ്യാവസാനം യിസ്രായേല്രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ പുസ്തകത്തില് ചേര്ത്തിരിക്കുന്ന ഹനാനിയുടെ മകനായ യെഹൂവിന്റെ വൃത്താന്തത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

34. The rest of the acts of Jehosaphat first and last are written in the works of Jehu the son of Hanani, which noted them in the book of the kings of Israel.

35. അതിന്റെശേഷം യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവായ അഹസ്യാവോടു സഖ്യത ചെയ്തു. അവന് മഹാദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തിക്കാരനായിരുന്നു.

35. After this Jehosaphat king of Juda joined himself with Ohoziah king of Israel, which was a wicked doer.

36. അവന് തര്ശീശിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പാന് കപ്പലുണ്ടാക്കുന്നതില് അവനോടു യോജിച്ചു; അവര് എസ്യോന് -ഗേബെരില്വെച്ചു കപ്പലുകളുണ്ടാക്കി.

36. And he coupled himself with him, to make ships to go to Tharsis. And they made the ships in Azion Gaber.

37. എന്നാല് മാരേശക്കാരനായ ദോദാവയുടെ മകന് എലീയേസെര് യെഹോശാഫാത്തിന്നു വിരോധമായി പ്രവചിച്ചുനീ അഹസ്യാവോടു സഖ്യത ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവ നിന്റെ പണികളെ ഉടെച്ചുകളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. കപ്പലുകള് തര്ശീശിലേക്കു ഔടുവാന് കഴിയാതെ ഉടഞ്ഞുപോയി.

37. And Elieser the son of Dodanah of Maresa prophesied against Jehosaphat: saying: because thou hast joined thyself with Ohoziah the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken that they were not able to go to Tharsis.
