1. യോവാശ് വാഴ്ച തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് അവന്നു ഏഴു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു; അവന് നാല്പതു സംവത്സരം യെരൂശലേമില് വാണു. ബേര്-ശേബക്കാരത്തിയായ അവന്റെ അമ്മെക്കു സിബ്യാ എന്നു പേര്.

1. Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mothers name also was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.

2. യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന്റെ ആയുഷ്കാലത്തൊക്കെയും യോവാശ് യഹോവേക്കു പ്രസാദമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു.

2. And Joash did that which was right in the sight of YHWH all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

3. യെഹോയാദാ അവന്നു രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാരെ വിവാഹം കഴിപ്പിച്ചു; അവന് പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു.

3. And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.

4. അനന്തരം യോവാശ് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്പ്പാന് മനസ്സുവെച്ചു.

4. And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of YHWH.

5. അവന് പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും ലേവ്യരെയും കൂട്ടിവരുത്തി അവരോടുയെഹൂദാനഗരങ്ങളിലേക്കു ചെന്നു നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയം ആണ്ടുതോറും അറ്റകുറ്റം പോക്കുവാന് എല്ലാ യിസ്രായേലിലും നിന്നു ദ്രവ്യം ശേഖരിപ്പിന് ; ഈ കാര്യം വേഗം നിവര്ത്തിക്കേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. ലേവ്യരോ അതിന്നു ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടില്ല.

5. And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your Elohim from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. Howbeit the Levites hastened it not.

6. ആകയാല് രാജാവു തലവനായ യെഹോയാദയെ വിളിപ്പിച്ചു അവനോടുസാക്ഷ്യകൂടാരത്തിന്നു യഹോവയുടെ ദാസനായ മോശെ കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന പിരിവു യെഹൂദയില്നിന്നും യെരൂശലേമില്നിന്നും കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് നീ ലേവ്യരോടും യിസ്രായേല്സഭയോടും ആവശ്യപ്പെടാതിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു?

6. And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of YHWH, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?

7. ദുഷ്ടസ്ത്രീയായ അഥല്യയുടെ പുത്രന്മാര് ദൈവാലയം പൊളിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു, യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലെ സകലനിവേദിതങ്ങളെയും ബാല്വിഗ്രഹങ്ങള്ക്കു കൊടുത്തുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of Elohim; and also all the dedicated things of the house of YHWH did they bestow upon Baalim.

8. അങ്ങനെ അവര് രാജകല്പനപ്രകാരം ഒരു പെട്ടകം ഉണ്ടാക്കി യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് പുറത്തുവെച്ചു.

8. And at the kings commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of YHWH.

9. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാസനായ മോശെ മരുഭൂമിയില് വെച്ചു യിസ്രായേലിന്മേല് ചുമത്തിയ പിരിവു യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് അവര് യെഹൂദയിലും യെരൂശലേമിലും പരസ്യം ചെയ്തു.

9. And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to YHWH the collection that Moses the servant of Elohim laid upon Israel in the wilderness.

10. സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും സര്വ്വ ജനവും സന്തോഷിച്ചു; കാര്യം തീരുംവരെ അവര് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു പെട്ടകത്തില് ഇട്ടു.

10. And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.

11. ലേവ്യര് പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു രാജാവിന്റെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന സമയം ദ്രവ്യം വളരെ ഉണ്ടെന്നു കണ്ടാല് രാജാവിന്റെ രായസക്കാരനും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ കാര്യസ്ഥനും വന്നു പെട്ടകം ഒഴിക്കയും പിന്നെയും എടുത്തു അതിന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു വെക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. ഇങ്ങനെ അവര് ദിവസംപ്രതി ചെയ്തു ബഹുദ്രവ്യം ശേഖരിച്ചു.

11. _Nw it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the kings office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the kings scribe and the high priests officer came and emptied the chest, and took it and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

12. രാജാവും യെഹോയാദയും അതു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് വേല ചെയ്യിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തു; അവര് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്പ്പാന് കല്പണിക്കാരെയും ആശാരികളെയും യഹോവയുടെ ആലയം കേടുപോക്കുവാന് ഇരിമ്പും താമ്രവുംകൊണ്ടു പണിചെയ്യുന്നവരെയും കൂലിക്കു വെച്ചു.

12. And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of YHWH, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of YHWH, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of YHWH.

13. അങ്ങനെ പണിക്കാര് വേല ചെയ്തു അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ത്തു ദൈവാലയം യഥാസ്ഥാനത്താക്കി ഉറപ്പിച്ചു.

13. So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of Elohim in his state, and strengthened it.

14. പണിതീര്ത്തിട്ടു ശേഷിച്ച ദ്രവ്യം അവര് രാജാവിന്റെയും യെഹോയാദയുടെയും മുമ്പില് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവര് അതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയം വകെക്കു ഉപകരണങ്ങളുണ്ടാക്കി; ശുശ്രൂഷെക്കായും ഹോമയാഗത്തിന്നായുമുള്ള ഉപകരണങ്ങളും തവികളും പൊന്നും വെള്ളിയും കൊണ്ടുള്ള ഉപകരണങ്ങളും തന്നേ; അവര് യെഹോയാദയുടെ കാലത്തൊക്കെയും ഇടവിടാതെ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ഹോമയാഗം അര്പ്പിച്ചുപോന്നു.

14. And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of YHWH, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of YHWH continually all the days of Jehoiada.

15. യെഹോയാദാ വയോധികനും കാലസമ്പൂര്ണ്ണനുമായി മരിച്ചു; മരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവന്നു നൂറ്റിമുപ്പതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു;

15. But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.

16. അവന് യിസ്രായേലില് ദൈവത്തിന്റെയും അവന്റെ ആലയത്തിന്റെയും കാര്യത്തില് നന്മ ചെയ്തിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവര് അവനെ ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തില് രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് അടക്കം ചെയ്തു.

16. And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward Elohim, and toward his house.

17. യെഹോയാദാ മരിച്ചശേഷം യെഹൂദാപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് വന്നു രാജാവിനെ വണങ്ങി; രാജാവു അവരുടെ വാക്കു കേട്ടു.

17. Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.

18. അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു അശേരാപ്രതിഷ്ഠളെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയും സേവിച്ചു; അവരുടെ ഈ കുറ്റം ഹേതുവായിട്ടു യെഹൂദയുടെമേലും യെരൂശലേമിന്മേലും കോപം വന്നു.

18. And they left the house of YHWH Elohim of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.

19. അവരെ യഹോവയിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിച്ചുവരുത്തുവാന് അവന് പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് അയച്ചു; അവര് അവരോടു സാക്ഷീകരിച്ചു; എങ്കിലും അവര് ചെവികൊടുത്തില്ല.

19. Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto YHWH; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

20. എന്നാറെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവു യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന്റെ മകനായ സെഖര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മേല് വന്നു; അവന് ജനത്തിന്നെതിരെ നിന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുദൈവം ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുനിങ്ങള്ക്കു ശുഭം വരുവാന് കഴിയാതവണ്ണം നിങ്ങള് യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനകളെ ലംഘിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? നിങ്ങള് യഹോവയെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് നിങ്ങളെയും ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

20. And the Spirit of Elohim came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith Elohim, Why transgress ye the commandments of YHWH, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken YHWH, he hath also forsaken you.

21. എന്നാല് അവര് അവന്റെ നേരെ കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കി രാജാവിന്റെ കല്പനപ്രകാരം യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ പ്രാകാരത്തില്വെച്ചു അവനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞു.

21. And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of YHWH.

22. അങ്ങനെ യോവാശ്രാജാവു അവന്റെ അപ്പനായ യെഹോയാദാ തനിക്കു ചെയ്ത ദയ ഔര്ക്കാതെ അവന്റെ മകനെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; അവന് മരിക്കുമ്പോള്യഹോവ നോക്കി ചോദിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, YHWH look upon it, and require it.

23. ആയാണ്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അരാമ്യസൈന്യം അവന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവര് യെഹൂദയിലും യെരൂശലേമിലും വന്നു ജനത്തിന്റെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും ജനത്തിന്റെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നശിപ്പിച്ചു കൊള്ള ഒക്കെയും ദമ്മേശെക്രാജാവിന്നു കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

23. And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.

24. അരാമ്യസൈന്യം ആള് ചുരൂക്കമായിട്ടു വന്നിരുന്നെങ്കിലും യഹോവ അവരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏറ്റവും വലിയോരു സൈന്യത്തെ ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നുവല്ലോ. ഇങ്ങനെ യോവാശിനോടു അവര് ന്യായവിധി നടത്തി.

24. For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and YHWH delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken YHWH Elohim of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.

25. അവര് അവനെ വിട്ടുപോയ ശേഷം--മഹാവ്യാധിയിലായിരുന്നു അവനെ വിട്ടേച്ചുപോയതു--യെഹോയാദാ പുരോഹിതന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെ രക്തംനിമിത്തം അവന്റെ സ്വന്ത ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവന്റെ നേരെ കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കി അവനെ കിടക്കയില് വെച്ചു കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവന് മരിച്ചു; അവനെ ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തില് അടക്കംചെയ്തു; രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളില് അടക്കം ചെയ്തില്ലതാനും.

25. And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,)his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.

26. അവന്റെ നേരെ കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കിയവരോ, അമ്മോന്യസ്ത്രീയായ ശിമെയാത്തിന്റെ മകന് സാബാദും മോവാബ്യസ്ത്രീയായ ശിമ്രീത്തിന്റെ മകന് യെഹോസാബാദും തന്നേ.

26. And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.

27. അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെയും അവന്നു വിരോധമായുള്ള പ്രവചനബാഹുല്യത്തിന്റെയും ദൈവലായം അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ത്തതിന്റെയും വൃത്താന്തം രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ ചരിത്രപുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ. അവന്റെ മകനായ അമസ്യാവു അവന്നു പകരം രാജാവായി.

27. Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of Elohim, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
