1. യോവാശ് വാഴ്ച തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് അവന്നു ഏഴു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു; അവന് നാല്പതു സംവത്സരം യെരൂശലേമില് വാണു. ബേര്-ശേബക്കാരത്തിയായ അവന്റെ അമ്മെക്കു സിബ്യാ എന്നു പേര്.

1. Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he was ruling for forty years in Jerusalem: his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.

2. യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന്റെ ആയുഷ്കാലത്തൊക്കെയും യോവാശ് യഹോവേക്കു പ്രസാദമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു.

2. And Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord as long as Jehoiada the priest was living.

3. യെഹോയാദാ അവന്നു രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാരെ വിവാഹം കഴിപ്പിച്ചു; അവന് പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു.

3. And Jehoiada took two wives for him, and he became the father of sons and daughters.

4. അനന്തരം യോവാശ് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്പ്പാന് മനസ്സുവെച്ചു.

4. Now after this Joash had a desire to put the house of the Lord into good order again;

5. അവന് പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും ലേവ്യരെയും കൂട്ടിവരുത്തി അവരോടുയെഹൂദാനഗരങ്ങളിലേക്കു ചെന്നു നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയം ആണ്ടുതോറും അറ്റകുറ്റം പോക്കുവാന് എല്ലാ യിസ്രായേലിലും നിന്നു ദ്രവ്യം ശേഖരിപ്പിന് ; ഈ കാര്യം വേഗം നിവര്ത്തിക്കേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. ലേവ്യരോ അതിന്നു ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടില്ല.

5. And getting together the priests and Levites, he said to them, Go out into the towns of Judah year by year, and get from all Israel money to keep the house of your God in good condition; and see that this is done without loss of time. The Levites, however, were slow in doing so.

6. ആകയാല് രാജാവു തലവനായ യെഹോയാദയെ വിളിപ്പിച്ചു അവനോടുസാക്ഷ്യകൂടാരത്തിന്നു യഹോവയുടെ ദാസനായ മോശെ കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന പിരിവു യെഹൂദയില്നിന്നും യെരൂശലേമില്നിന്നും കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് നീ ലേവ്യരോടും യിസ്രായേല്സഭയോടും ആവശ്യപ്പെടാതിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു?

6. Then the king sent for Jehoiada, the chief priest, and said to him, Why have you not given the Levites orders that the tax fixed by Moses, the servant of the Lord, and by the meeting of Israel, for the Tent of witness, is to be got in from Judah and Jerusalem and handed over?

7. ദുഷ്ടസ്ത്രീയായ അഥല്യയുടെ പുത്രന്മാര് ദൈവാലയം പൊളിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു, യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലെ സകലനിവേദിതങ്ങളെയും ബാല്വിഗ്രഹങ്ങള്ക്കു കൊടുത്തുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. For the house of the Lord had been broken up by Athaliah, that evil woman, and her sons; and all its holy things they had given to the Baals.

8. അങ്ങനെ അവര് രാജകല്പനപ്രകാരം ഒരു പെട്ടകം ഉണ്ടാക്കി യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് പുറത്തുവെച്ചു.

8. So at the king's order they made a chest and put it outside the doorway of the house of the Lord.

9. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാസനായ മോശെ മരുഭൂമിയില് വെച്ചു യിസ്രായേലിന്മേല് ചുമത്തിയ പിരിവു യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് അവര് യെഹൂദയിലും യെരൂശലേമിലും പരസ്യം ചെയ്തു.

9. And an order was sent out through all Judah and Jerusalem that payment was to be made to the Lord of the tax which Moses, the servant of God, had put on Israel in the waste land.

10. സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും സര്വ്വ ജനവും സന്തോഷിച്ചു; കാര്യം തീരുംവരെ അവര് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു പെട്ടകത്തില് ഇട്ടു.

10. And all the chiefs and all the people came gladly and put their money into the chest, till they had all given.

11. ലേവ്യര് പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു രാജാവിന്റെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന സമയം ദ്രവ്യം വളരെ ഉണ്ടെന്നു കണ്ടാല് രാജാവിന്റെ രായസക്കാരനും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ കാര്യസ്ഥനും വന്നു പെട്ടകം ഒഴിക്കയും പിന്നെയും എടുത്തു അതിന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു വെക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. ഇങ്ങനെ അവര് ദിവസംപ്രതി ചെയ്തു ബഹുദ്രവ്യം ശേഖരിച്ചു.

11. So when the chest was taken to the king's servants by the Levites, and they saw that there was much money in it, the king's scribe and the chief priest's servant took the money out, and put the chest back in its place. They did this day by day, and got together a great amount of money.

12. രാജാവും യെഹോയാദയും അതു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് വേല ചെയ്യിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തു; അവര് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്പ്പാന് കല്പണിക്കാരെയും ആശാരികളെയും യഹോവയുടെ ആലയം കേടുപോക്കുവാന് ഇരിമ്പും താമ്രവുംകൊണ്ടു പണിചെയ്യുന്നവരെയും കൂലിക്കു വെച്ചു.

12. Then the king and Jehoiada gave it to those who were responsible for getting the work done on the Lord's house, and with it they got wall-builders and woodworkers and metal-workers to put the house of the Lord in good order again.

13. അങ്ങനെ പണിക്കാര് വേല ചെയ്തു അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ത്തു ദൈവാലയം യഥാസ്ഥാനത്താക്കി ഉറപ്പിച്ചു.

13. So the workmen did their work, making good what was damaged and building up the house of God till it was strong and beautiful again.

14. പണിതീര്ത്തിട്ടു ശേഷിച്ച ദ്രവ്യം അവര് രാജാവിന്റെയും യെഹോയാദയുടെയും മുമ്പില് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവര് അതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയം വകെക്കു ഉപകരണങ്ങളുണ്ടാക്കി; ശുശ്രൂഷെക്കായും ഹോമയാഗത്തിന്നായുമുള്ള ഉപകരണങ്ങളും തവികളും പൊന്നും വെള്ളിയും കൊണ്ടുള്ള ഉപകരണങ്ങളും തന്നേ; അവര് യെഹോയാദയുടെ കാലത്തൊക്കെയും ഇടവിടാതെ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ഹോമയാഗം അര്പ്പിച്ചുപോന്നു.

14. And when the work was done, they took the rest of the money to the king and Jehoiada, and it was used for making the vessels for the house of the Lord, all the vessels needed for the offerings, the spoons and the vessels of gold and silver. And as long as Jehoiada was living, the regular burned offerings were offered in the house of the Lord.

15. യെഹോയാദാ വയോധികനും കാലസമ്പൂര്ണ്ണനുമായി മരിച്ചു; മരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവന്നു നൂറ്റിമുപ്പതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു;

15. But Jehoiada became old and full of days, and he came to his end; he was a hundred and thirty years old at the time of his death.

16. അവന് യിസ്രായേലില് ദൈവത്തിന്റെയും അവന്റെ ആലയത്തിന്റെയും കാര്യത്തില് നന്മ ചെയ്തിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവര് അവനെ ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തില് രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് അടക്കം ചെയ്തു.

16. And they put him into his last resting-place in the town of David, among the kings, because he had done good in Israel for God and for his house.

17. യെഹോയാദാ മരിച്ചശേഷം യെഹൂദാപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് വന്നു രാജാവിനെ വണങ്ങി; രാജാവു അവരുടെ വാക്കു കേട്ടു.

17. Now after the death of Jehoiada, the chiefs of Judah came and went down on their faces before the king. Then the king gave ear to them.

18. അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു അശേരാപ്രതിഷ്ഠളെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയും സേവിച്ചു; അവരുടെ ഈ കുറ്റം ഹേതുവായിട്ടു യെഹൂദയുടെമേലും യെരൂശലേമിന്മേലും കോപം വന്നു.

18. And they gave up the house of the Lord God of their fathers, and became worshippers of pillars of wood and of the images; and because of this sin of theirs, wrath came on Judah and Jerusalem.

19. അവരെ യഹോവയിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിച്ചുവരുത്തുവാന് അവന് പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് അയച്ചു; അവര് അവരോടു സാക്ഷീകരിച്ചു; എങ്കിലും അവര് ചെവികൊടുത്തില്ല.

19. And the Lord sent them prophets to make them come back to him; and they gave witness against them, but they would not give ear.

20. എന്നാറെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവു യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന്റെ മകനായ സെഖര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മേല് വന്നു; അവന് ജനത്തിന്നെതിരെ നിന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുദൈവം ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുനിങ്ങള്ക്കു ശുഭം വരുവാന് കഴിയാതവണ്ണം നിങ്ങള് യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനകളെ ലംഘിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? നിങ്ങള് യഹോവയെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് നിങ്ങളെയും ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

20. Then the spirit of God came on Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada the priest, and, getting up before the people, he said to them, God has said, Why do you go against the orders of the Lord, so that everything goes badly for you? because you have given up the Lord, he has given you up.

21. But when they had made a secret design against him, he was stoned with stones, by the king's order, in the outer square of the Lord's house.

22. അങ്ങനെ യോവാശ്രാജാവു അവന്റെ അപ്പനായ യെഹോയാദാ തനിക്കു ചെയ്ത ദയ ഔര്ക്കാതെ അവന്റെ മകനെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; അവന് മരിക്കുമ്പോള്യഹോവ നോക്കി ചോദിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. So King Joash did not keep in mind how good Jehoiada his father had been to him, but put his son to death. And in the hour of his death he said, May the Lord see it and take payment!

23. ആയാണ്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അരാമ്യസൈന്യം അവന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവര് യെഹൂദയിലും യെരൂശലേമിലും വന്നു ജനത്തിന്റെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും ജനത്തിന്റെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നശിപ്പിച്ചു കൊള്ള ഒക്കെയും ദമ്മേശെക്രാജാവിന്നു കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

23. Now in the spring, the army of the Aramaeans came up against him; they came against Judah and Jerusalem, putting to death all the great men of the people and sending all the goods they took from them to the king of Damascus.

24. അരാമ്യസൈന്യം ആള് ചുരൂക്കമായിട്ടു വന്നിരുന്നെങ്കിലും യഹോവ അവരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏറ്റവും വലിയോരു സൈന്യത്തെ ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നുവല്ലോ. ഇങ്ങനെ യോവാശിനോടു അവര് ന്യായവിധി നടത്തി.

24. For though the army of Aram was only a small one, the Lord gave a very great army into their hands, because they had given up the Lord, the God of their fathers. So they put into effect the punishment of Joash.

25. അവര് അവനെ വിട്ടുപോയ ശേഷം--മഹാവ്യാധിയിലായിരുന്നു അവനെ വിട്ടേച്ചുപോയതു--യെഹോയാദാ പുരോഹിതന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെ രക്തംനിമിത്തം അവന്റെ സ്വന്ത ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവന്റെ നേരെ കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കി അവനെ കിടക്കയില് വെച്ചു കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവന് മരിച്ചു; അവനെ ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തില് അടക്കംചെയ്തു; രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളില് അടക്കം ചെയ്തില്ലതാനും.

25. And when they had gone away from him, (for he was broken with disease,) his servants made a secret design against him because of the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and they put him to death on his bed; and they put his body into the earth in the town of David, but not in the resting-place of the kings.

26. അവന്റെ നേരെ കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കിയവരോ, അമ്മോന്യസ്ത്രീയായ ശിമെയാത്തിന്റെ മകന് സാബാദും മോവാബ്യസ്ത്രീയായ ശിമ്രീത്തിന്റെ മകന് യെഹോസാബാദും തന്നേ.

26. Those who made designs against him were Zabad, the son of Shimeath, an Ammonite woman, and Jehozabad, the son of Shimrith, a Moabite woman.

27. അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെയും അവന്നു വിരോധമായുള്ള പ്രവചനബാഹുല്യത്തിന്റെയും ദൈവലായം അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ത്തതിന്റെയും വൃത്താന്തം രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ ചരിത്രപുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ. അവന്റെ മകനായ അമസ്യാവു അവന്നു പകരം രാജാവായി.

27. Now the story of his sons, and all the words said by the prophet against him, and the building up again of the Lord's house, are recorded in the account in the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son became king in his place.
