1. യോശീയാവു വാഴ്ച തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് അവന്നു എട്ടു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു; അവന് മുപ്പത്തൊന്നു സംവത്സരം യെരൂശലേമില് വാണു.

1. Josiah was made king when he was eight years old, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty one year.

2. അവന് യഹോവേക്കു പ്രസാദമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു; തന്റെ പിതാവായ ദാവീദിന്റെ വഴികളില് വലത്തോട്ടോ ഇടത്തോട്ടോ മാറാതെ നടന്നു.

2. And he did that pleased the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father bowing neither to the right hand or to the left.

3. അവന്റെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ എട്ടാം ആണ്ടില്, അവന്റെ യൌവനത്തില് തന്നെ, അവന് തന്റെ പിതാവായ ദാവീദിന്റെ ദൈവത്തെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുതുടങ്ങി; പന്ത്രണ്ടാം ആണ്ടില് അവന് പൂജാഗിരികളെയും അശേരാപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയും ബിംബങ്ങളെയും നീക്കി യെഹൂദയെയും യെരൂശലേമിനെയും വെടിപ്പാക്കുവാന് തുടങ്ങി.

3. Insomuch that the eighth years of his reign, when he was yet a lad, he began to seek after the God of David his father. And in the twelfth year he began to purge Juda and Jerusalem of hillaltars, groves, carved Images, and Images of metal:

4. അവന് കാണ്കെ അവര് ബാല് വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളുടെ ബലിപീഠങ്ങളെ ഇടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; അവേക്കു മീതെയുള്ള സൂര്യസ്തംഭങ്ങളെ അവന് വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു; അശേരാപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയും ബീംബങ്ങളെയും തകര്ത്തു പൊടിയാക്കി, അവേക്കു ബലികഴിച്ചവരുടെ കല്ലറകളിന്മേല് വിതറിച്ചു.

4. so that they brake down the altars of Baals even in his presence, and the Idols that were upon them, he caused to be destroyed. And the groves, carved Images, and Images of metal he brake and made dust of them, and strawed it upon the graves of them that had offered to them.

5. അവന് പൂജാരികളുടെ അസ്ഥികളെ അവരുടെ ബലിപീഠങ്ങളിന്മേല് ദഹിപ്പിക്കയും യെഹൂദയെയും യെരൂശലേമിനെയും വെടിപ്പാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

5. And he burnt the bones of the priests upon the altars, and cleansed Juda and Jerusalem.

6. അങ്ങനെതന്നേ അവന് മനശ്ശെയുടെയും എഫ്രയീമിന്റെയും ശിമെയോന്റെയും പട്ടണങ്ങളില് നഫ്താലിവരെയും ചുറ്റിലും അവരുടെ ശൂന്യസ്ഥലങ്ങളില് ചെയ്തു.

6. And even so did he in the cities of Manasse, Ephraim, Simeon and of Nephthali thereto.

7. അവന് ബലിപീഠങ്ങളെ ഇടിച്ചു അശേരാപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയുമെല്ലാം തകര്ത്തു പൊടിയാക്കി, യിസ്രായേല് ദേശത്തു എല്ലാടവും സകലസൂര്യസ്തംഭങ്ങളെയും വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

7. And in the wildernesses of them round about he plucked asunder the altars and the groves and did beat them and stamp them to powder, and beat down the idols thorowout all the land of Israel: and then returned to Jerusalem again.

8. അവന്റെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ പതിനെട്ടാം ആണ്ടില് ദേശത്തെയും ആലയത്തെയും വെടിപ്പാക്കിയശേഷം അവന് അസല്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ ശാഫാനെയും നഗരാധിപതിയായ മയശേയാവെയും യോവാശിന്റെ മകനായ രായസക്കാരന് യോവാഹിനെയും തന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്പ്പാന് നിയോഗിച്ചു.

8. And in the eighteenth year of his reign when he had purged the land and the temple, he sent Saphan the son of Azaliah, and Maasiah the governor of the city and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.

9. അവര് മഹാപുരോഹിതനായ ഹില്ക്കീയാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നപ്പോള് വാതില്കാവല്ക്കാരായ ലേവ്യര് മനശ്ശെയോടും എഫ്രയീമിനോടും ശേഷമുള്ള എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിനോടും എല്ലാ യെഹൂദയോടും ബെന്യാമീനോടും യെരൂശലേംനിവാസികളോടും പിരിച്ചെടുത്തു ദൈവാലയത്തില് അടെച്ചിരുന്ന ദ്രവ്യം ഏല്പിച്ചു കൊടുത്തു.

9. And when they came to Helkiah the high priest, men delivered them the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the entries had gathered of the hands of Manasse and Ephraim and of all that yet remained in Israel and of all Juda and Benjamin and of the inhabiters of Jerusalem.

10. അവര് അതു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് വേലചെയ്യിക്കുന്ന മേല്വിചാരകന്മാരുടെ കയ്യിലും അവര് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ത്തു നന്നാക്കുവാന് ആലയത്തില് പണിചെയ്യുന്ന പണിക്കാര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തു.

10. And they put it in the hands of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of the LORD. which gave it to the labourers that wrought on the house of the LORD, to repair and mend it,

11. ചെത്തിയ കല്ലും ചേര്പ്പുപണിക്കു മരവും വാങ്ങേണ്ടതിന്നും യെഹൂദാരാജാക്കന്മാര് നശിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന കെട്ടിടങ്ങള്ക്കു തുലാങ്ങള് വെക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ആശാരികള്ക്കും പണിക്കാര്ക്കും തന്നേ.

11. and to masons and carpenters to buy hewed stone and timber for to make couples and beams for the houses which the kings of Juda had destroyed:

12. ആ പുരുഷന്മാര് വിശ്വാസത്തിന്മേല് പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു; മെരാര്യ്യരില് യഹത്ത്, ഔബദ്യാവു എന്ന ലേവ്യരും പണിനടത്തുവാന് കെഹാത്യരില് സെഖര്യ്യാവും മെശുല്ലാമും വാദ്യപ്രയോഗത്തില് സാമര്ത്ഥ്യമുള്ള സകലലേവ്യരും അവരുടെ മേല്വിചാരകന്മാര് ആയിരുന്നു.

12. And the men wrought in the work of fidelity. And the overseers of them to courage them forward, were Jahath and Obadiah Levites of the children of Merari: and Sechariah and Mesulam of the children of the Cahathites, and as many other of the Levites as could skill of instruments of Music.

13. അവര് ചുമട്ടുകാര്ക്കും അതതു വേല ചെയ്യുന്ന എല്ലാ പണിക്കാര്ക്കും മേല്വിചാരകന്മാരായിരുന്നു; ലേവ്യരില് ചിലര് എഴുത്തുകാരും ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്മാരും വാതില്കാവല്ക്കാരും ആയിരുന്നു.

13. And over the bearers of burthens and over all that wrought, in whatsoever workmanship it were, wete there scribes, officers and porters of the Levites.

14. അവര് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് പിരിഞ്ഞുകിട്ടിയ ദ്രവ്യം പുറത്തു എടുത്തപ്പോള് ഹില്ക്കീയാപുരോഹിതന് യഹോവ മോശെമുഖാന്തരം കൊടുത്ത ന്യായപ്രമാണപുസ്തകം കണ്ടെത്തി.

14. And as they brought out the money that was brought into the house, Helkiah the priest found the book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.

15. ഹില്ക്കീയാവു രായസക്കാരനായ ശാഫാനോടുഞാന് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ന്യായപ്രമാണപുസ്തകം കണ്ടെത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഹില്ക്കീയാവു പുസ്തകം ശാഫാന്റെ കയ്യില് കൊടുത്തു.

15. And Helkiah answered and said to Saphan the scribe: I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD, and gave the book to Saphan.

16. ശാഫാന് പുസ്തകം രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടു ചെന്നു രാജസന്നിധിയില് ബോധിപ്പിച്ചതുഅടിയങ്ങള്ക്കു കല്പന തന്നതുപോലെ ഒക്കെയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

16. And Saphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word again, saying: all that was committed to thy servants, that do they.

17. യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് കണ്ട ദ്രവ്യം പുറത്തു എടുത്തു വിചാരകന്മാരുടെ കയ്യിലും വേലക്കാരുടെ കയ്യിലും കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

17. And they have poured out the money that was found in the house of the LORD and have delivered into the hands of the overseers of the workmen.

18. രായസക്കാരനായ ശാഫാന് രാജാവിനോടുഹില്ക്കീയാപുരോഹിതന് ഒരു പുസ്തകം എന്റെ കയ്യില് തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നും ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു; ശാഫാന് അതിനെ രാജസന്നിധിയില് വായിച്ചു കേള്പ്പിച്ചു.

18. And then Saphan the scribe shewed the king, saying: Helkiah the priest hath given me a book, and he read it before the king.

19. ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിലെ വാക്യങ്ങളെ കേട്ടിട്ടു രാജാവു വസ്ത്രം കീറി.

19. And when the king had heard the words of the law, he tare his clothes,

20. രാജാവു ഹില്ക്കീയാവോടും ശാഫാന്റെ മകന് അഹീക്കാമിനോടും മീഖയുടെ മകന് അബ്ദോനോടും രായസക്കാരനായ ശാഫാനോടും രാജഭൃത്യനായ അസായാവോടും കല്പിച്ചതു എന്തെന്നാല്

20. and commanded Helkiah and Ahikam the son of Saphan and Abadon the son of Micah and the said Saphan the scribe and Asaia a servant of the king's, saying:

21. നിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു, കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്ന ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിലെ വാക്യങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചു എനിക്കും യിസ്രായേലിലും യെഹൂദയിലും ശേഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും വേണ്ടി യഹോവയോടു അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിപ്പിന് ; ഈ പുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതൊക്കെയും അനുസരിച്ചു നടക്കത്തക്കവണ്ണം നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാര് യഹോവയുടെ വചനത്തെ പ്രമാണിക്കാതെയിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു നമ്മുടെമേല് ചൊരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന യഹോവയുടെ കോപം വലിയതല്ലോ.

21. go and enquire of the LORD for me and for them that are left in Israel and Juda concerning the words of the book that is found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that is fallen upon us, because our fathers kept not the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.

22. അങ്ങനെ ഹില്ക്കീയാവും രാജാവു നിയോഗിച്ചവരും ഹസ്രയുടെ മകനായ തൊക്ഹത്തിന്റെ മകനായി രാജവസ്ത്രവിചാരകനായ ശല്ലൂമിന്റെ ഭാര്യ ഹുല്ദാ എന്ന പ്രവാചകിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു--അവള് യെരൂശലേമില് രണ്ടാം ഭാഗത്തു പാര്ത്തിരുന്നു;- അവളോടു ആ സംഗതിയെക്കുറിച്ചു സംസാരിച്ചു.

22. And Helkiah with them that pertained to the king went to Holdah a prophetess wife of Selum the son of Thekohath the son of Masarah keeper of the wardrobe (which prophetess dwelt in Jerusalem in the second ward) and they communed so with her.

23. അവള് അവരോടു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുയിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു; നിങ്ങളെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയച്ച പുരുഷനോടു നിങ്ങള് പറയേണ്ടതു എന്തെന്നാല്

23. And she said unto them: thus sayeth the LORD God of Israel, tell ye the man that sent you to me.

24. യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഞാന് ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നും നിവാസികള്ക്കും യെഹൂദാരാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ വായിച്ചുകേള്പ്പിച്ച പുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്ന സകലശാപങ്ങളുമായ അനര്ത്ഥം വരുത്തും.

24. Even thus sayeth the LORD: see, I will bring evil upon this place and upon the inhabiters thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Juda,

25. അവര് എന്നെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു തങ്ങളുടെ സകലപ്രവൃത്തികളാലും എനിക്കു കോപം വരത്തക്കവണ്ണം അന്യ ദൈവങ്ങള്ക്കു ധൂപം കാട്ടിയതുകൊണ്ടു എന്റെ കോപം ഈ സ്ഥലത്തു ചൊരിയും; അതു കെട്ടുപോകയും ഇല്ല.

25. because they have forsaken me and have offered unto other gods to anger me with all manner works of their hands, therefore is my wrath set on fire against this place and shall not be quenched.

26. എന്നാല് യഹോവയോടു ചോദിപ്പാന് നിങ്ങളെ അയച്ച യെഹൂദാരാജാവിനോടു നിങ്ങള് പറയേണ്ടതു എന്തെന്നാല്നീ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന വചനങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചു യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു;

26. And as for the king of Juda which sent you to enquire of the LORD, so shall ye say unto him: thus sayeth the LORD God of Israel concerning the words which thou hast heard.

27. ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നും നിവാസികള്ക്കും വിരോധമായുള്ള ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെ നീ കേട്ടപ്പോള് നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം അലിഞ്ഞു നീ അവന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ നിന്നെത്തന്നേ താഴ്ത്തുകയും എന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ നിന്നെത്തന്നേ താഴ്ത്തി നിന്റെ വസ്ത്രം കീറി എന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ കരകയും ചെയ്കകൊണ്ടു ഞാനും നിന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

27. Because thine heart did melt and thou didst meek thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place and against the inhabiters thereof: and humblest thyself before me, and tarest thy clothes and weepest before me, that have I heard also sayeth the LORD.

28. ഞാന് നിന്നെ നിന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു ചേര്ത്തുകൊള്ളും; നീ സമാധാനത്തോടെ നിന്റെ കല്ലറയില് അടക്കപ്പെടും; ഞാന് ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നും നിവാസികള്ക്കും വരുത്തുവാന് പോകുന്ന അനര്ത്ഥമൊന്നും നിന്റെ കണ്ണു കാണുകയുമില്ല. അവര് രാജാവിനെ ഈ മറുപടി ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.

28. Behold I will take thee to thy fathers and thou shalt be put in thy grave in peace, and thine eyes shall not see all the mischief that I will bring upon this place and upon the inhabiters of the same; And they brought the king word again.

29. അനന്തരം രാജാവു ആളയച്ചു യെഹൂദയിലും യെരൂശലേമിലും ഉള്ള എല്ലാമൂപ്പന്മാരെയും കൂട്ടിവരുത്തി.

29. Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Juda and Jerusalem.

30. രാജാവും സകലയെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരും യെരൂശലേംനിവാസികളും പുരോഹിതന്മാരും ലേവ്യരും ആബാലവൃദ്ധം സര്വ്വജനവും യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ചെന്നു; അവന് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില്വെച്ചു കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയ നിയമപുസ്തകത്തിലെ വാക്യങ്ങളെയെല്ലാം അവരെ കേള്പ്പിച്ചു.

30. And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Juda and the inhabiters of Jerusalem and the Priests and Levites and all the people great and small: and read all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.

31. രാജാവു തന്റെ സ്ഥാനത്തു നിന്നുകൊണ്ടു താന് യഹോവയെ അനുസരിക്കയും; അവന്റെ കല്പനകളും സാക്ഷ്യങ്ങളും ചട്ടങ്ങളും പൂര്ണ്ണഹൃദയത്തോടും പൂര്ണ്ണമനസ്സോടുംകൂടെ പ്രമാണിച്ചു നടക്കയും ഈ പുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്ന നിയമത്തിന്റെ വചനങ്ങള് ആചരിക്കയും ചെയ്യുമെന്നു യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ ഒരു നിയമം ചെയ്തു.

31. And the king stood at his standing and made a covenant before the LORD, to follow the LORD and to keep his commandments, his witnesses and his statutes with all his heart and with all his soul and to fulfil the words of the appointment written in the said book.

32. യെരൂശലേമിലും ബെന്യാമീനിലും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നവരെ ഒക്കെയും അവന് അതില് യോജിപ്പിച്ചു. യെരൂശലേംനിവാസികള് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നിയമപ്രകാരം ചെയ്തു.

32. And he made to come forth all that were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin, and the inhabiters of Jerusalem promised to keep the covenant of the God which was the God of their fathers.

33. യോശീയാവു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്ക്കുള്ള സകലദേശങ്ങളില്നിന്നും സകലമ്ളേച്ഛതകളെയും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു യിസ്രായേലില് ഉള്ളവരെല്ലാം തങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ സേവിപ്പാന് സംഗതിവരുത്തി. അവന്റെ കാലത്തൊക്കെയും അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ വിട്ടുമാറിയില്ല.

33. And Josiah put away all manner of abominations out of all lands that pertained to the children of Israel, and brought all that were found in Israel, to serve the LORD their God. And they turned not aside from after the LORD God of their fathers as long as he lived.
