1. പ്രവാസികള് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു മന്ദിരം പണിയുന്നു എന്നു യെഹൂദയുടെയും ബെന്യാമീന്റെയും വൈരികള് കേട്ടപ്പോള്

1. Now when the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the sons of the captivity built the temple unto the LORD God of Israel,

2. അവര് സെരുബ്ബാബേലിന്റെയും പിതൃഭവനത്തലവന്മാരുടെയും അടുക്കല് വന്നു അവരോടുഞങ്ങള് നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പണിയട്ടെ; നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തെ നിങ്ങളെന്നപോലെ ഞങ്ങളും അന്വേഷിക്കയും ഞങ്ങള് അവന്നു, ഞങ്ങളെ ഇവിടെ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവായ എസര്ഹദ്ദോന്റെ കാലംമുതല് യാഗം കഴിക്കയും ചെയ്തുപോരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. then they came to Zerubbabel and to the heads of the fathers and said unto them, Let us build with you, for we seek your God, as ye [do]; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esarhaddon, king of Assur, who brought us up here.

3. അതിന്നു സെരുബ്ബാബേലും യേശുവയും ശേഷം യിസ്രായേല്പിതൃഭവനത്തലവന്മാരും അവരോടുഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയം പണിയുന്നതില് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഞങ്ങളുമായി കാര്യമൊന്നുമില്ല; പാര്സിരാജാവായ കോരെശ്രാജാവു ഞങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ഞങ്ങള് തന്നേ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു അതു പണിതുകൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. But Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the heads of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build a house unto our God; but we alone will build unto the LORD God of Israel as King Cyrus, the king of Persia, commanded us.

4. ആകയാല് ദേശനിവാസികള് യെഹൂദാജനത്തിന്നു ധൈര്യക്ഷയം വരുത്തി പണിയാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരെ പേടിപ്പിച്ചു.

4. Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah and troubled them in building

5. അവരുടെ ഉദ്ദേശം നിഷ്ഫലമാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവര് പാര്സിരാജാവായ കോരെശിന്റെ കാലത്തൊക്കെയും പാര്സിരാജാവായ ദാര്യ്യാവേശിന്റെ വാഴ്ചവരെയും അവര്ക്കും വിരോധമായി കാര്യസ്ഥന്മാരെ കൈക്കൂലി കൊടുത്തു വശത്താക്കി.

5. and hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their counsel, all the days of Cyrus, king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius, king of Persia.

6. അഹശ്വേരോശിന്റെ കാലത്തു, അവന്റെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ ആരംഭത്തില് തന്നേ, അവര് യെഹൂദയിലെയും യെരൂശലേമിലെയും നിവാസികള്ക്കു വിരോധമായി അന്യായപത്രം എഴുതി അയച്ചു.

6. And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote accusations against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

7. അര്ത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാവിന്റെ കാലത്തു ബിശലാമും മിത്രെദാത്തും താബെയേലും ശേഷം അവരുടെ കൂട്ടക്കാരും പാസിരാജാവായ അര്ത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാവിന്നു ഒരു പത്രിക എഴുതി അയച്ചു; പത്രിക അരാമ്യാക്ഷരത്തില്, അരാമ്യഭാഷയില് തന്നേ എഴുതിയിരുന്നു.

7. And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes, king of Persia; and the writing of the letter [was] written in the Syrian tongue and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.

8. ധര്മ്മാദ്ധ്യക്ഷനായ രെഹൂമും രായസക്കാരനായ ശിംശായിയും യെരൂശലേമിന്നു വിരോധമായി അര്ത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാരാജാവിന്നു ഒരു പത്രിക എഴുതി അയച്ചു.

8. Rehum, the chancellor, and Shimshai, the scribe, wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes, the king, in this sort:

9. ധര്മ്മാദ്ധ്യക്ഷന് രെഹൂമും രായസക്കാരന് ശിംശായിയും ശേഷം അവരുടെ കൂട്ടക്കാരായ ദീന്യര്, അഫര്സത്യര്, തര്പ്പേല്യര്, അഫര്സ്യര്, അര്ക്കവ്യര്, ബാബേല്യര്, ശൂശന്യര്, ദേഹാവ്യര്, ഏലാമ്യര് എന്നിവരും

9. Then [wrote] Rehum, the chancellor, and Shimshai, the scribe, and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, [and] the Elamites,

10. മഹാനും ശ്രേഷ്ഠനുമായ അസ്നപ്പാര് പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവന്നു ശമര്യ്യാപട്ടണങ്ങളിലും നദിക്കു ഇക്കരെ മറ്റു ദിക്കുകളിലും പാര്പ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ശേഷംജാതികളും ഇത്യാദി.

10. and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar ([Sennacherib]) brought over and set in the cities of Samaria and the rest [that are] on the other side of the river, and of Cheenet.

11. അവര് അര്ത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാരാജാവിന്നു അയച്ച പത്രികയുടെ പകര്പ്പു എന്തെന്നാല്നദിക്കു ഇക്കരെയുള്ള നിന്റെ ദാസന്മാരായ പുരുഷന്മാര് ഇത്യാദിരാജാവു ബോധിപ്പാന്

11. This [is] the copy of the letter that they sent: Unto Artaxerxes, the king: Thy servants, the men of the other side of the river, and of Cheenet.

12. തിരുമുമ്പില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് യെരൂശലേമില് വന്നിരിക്കുന്ന യെഹൂദന്മാര് മത്സരവും ദുഷ്ടതയുമുള്ള ആ പട്ടണം പണികയും അതിന്റെ മതിലുകള് കെട്ടുകയും അടിസ്ഥാനങ്ങള് നന്നാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

12. Be it known unto the king that the Jews who came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have founded the walls [thereof] and joined the foundations.

13. പട്ടണം പണിതു മതിലുകള് കെട്ടിത്തീര്ന്നാല് അവര് കരമോ നികുതിയോ ചുങ്കമോ ഒന്നും അടെക്കയില്ല; അങ്ങനെ ഒടുവില് അവര് രാജാക്കന്മാര്ക്കും നഷ്ടം വരുത്തും എന്നു രാജാവിന്നു ബോധിച്ചിരിക്കേണം.

13. Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city is rebuilt, and the walls founded, they will not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so the revenue of the kings shall be reduced.

14. എന്നാല് ഞങ്ങള് കോവിലകത്തെ ഉപ്പു തിന്നുന്നവരാകയാലും രാജാവിന്നു അപമാനം വരുന്നതു കണ്ടുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നതു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉചിതമല്ലായ്കയാലും ഞങ്ങള് ആളയച്ചു രാജാവിനെ ഇതു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു.

14. Now because we are salted with the salt of the palace, and it is not just unto us to see the king's dishonour; therefore, we have sent to make this known unto the king,

15. അവിടത്തെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ വൃത്താന്തപുസ്തകത്തില് നോക്കിയാല് ഈ പട്ടണം മത്സരവും രാജാക്കന്മാര്ക്കും സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങള്ക്കും ഉപദ്രവവും ഉള്ള പട്ടണം എന്നും അതില് അവര് പുരാതനമേ കലഹം ഉണ്ടാക്കിയതിനാല് ഈ പട്ടണം നശിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്നു എന്നും വൃത്താന്തപുസ്തകത്തില്നിന്നു അറിവാകും.

15. that search may be made in the book of the records of our fathers; so shalt thou find in the book of the records and know that this city [is] a rebellious city and hurtful unto kings and provinces and that from old time they form rebellions in the midst of her, for which cause this city was destroyed.

16. ഈ പട്ടണം പണികയും അതിന്റെ മതിലുകള് കെട്ടിത്തീരുകയും ചെയ്താല് അതു നിമിത്തം അവിടത്തേക്കു നദിക്കു ഇക്കരെ ഒരു അവകാശവും ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കയില്ലെന്നു രാജാവിനെ ഉണര്ത്തിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു.

16. We notify the king that if this city is built [again], and its walls founded, the portion on the other side of the river shall no longer be yours.

17. അതിന്നു രാജാവു ധര്മ്മാദ്ധ്യക്ഷനായ രെഹൂമിന്നും രായസക്കാരനായ ശിംശായിക്കും ശമര്യ്യാനിവാസികളായ അവരുടെ കൂട്ടക്കാര്ക്കും നദിക്കും അക്കരെയുള്ള ശേഷംപേര്ക്കും മറുപടി എഴുതി അയച്ചതു എന്തെന്നാല്നിങ്ങള്ക്കു കുശലം ഇത്യാദി;

17. The king sent this answer unto Rehum, the chancellor, and [to] Shimshai, the scribe, and [to] the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria and to the rest of those of the other side of the river and to Cheenet.

18. നിങ്ങള് കൊടുത്തയച്ച പത്രിക നമ്മുടെ സന്നിധിയില് വ്യക്തമായി വായിച്ചുകേട്ടു.

18. The letter which you sent unto us has been plainly read before me.

19. നാം കല്പന കൊടുത്തിട്ടു അവര് ശോധനചെയ്തു നോക്കിയപ്പോള് ആ പട്ടണം പുരാതനമേ രാജാക്കന്മാരോടു എതിര്ത്തുനിലക്കുന്നതു എന്നും അതില് മത്സരവും കലഹവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു എന്നും

19. And I commanded, and search has been made, and it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings and [that] rebellion and sedition have been made in her

20. യെരൂശലേമില് ബലവാന്മാരായ രാജാക്കന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവര് നദിക്കു അക്കരെയുള്ള നാടൊക്കെയും വാണു കരവും നികുതിയും ചുങ്കവും വാങ്ങിവന്നു എന്നും കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

20. and that there have been mighty kings in Jerusalem, who have ruled over all [that is] beyond the river, and that toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.

21. ആകയാല് നാം മറ്റൊരു കല്പന അയക്കുന്നതുവരെ അവര് പട്ടണം പണിയുന്നതു നിര്ത്തിവെക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ആജ്ഞാപിപ്പിന് .

21. Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease and that this city not be built until [another] commandment shall be given from me.

22. നിങ്ങള് അതില് ഉപേക്ഷചെയ്യാതെ ജാഗ്രതയായിരിപ്പിന് ; രാജാക്കന്മാര്ക്കും നഷ്ടവും ഹാനിയും വരരുതു.

22. Take heed now that ye not fail to do this; why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

23. അര്ത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാരാജാവിന്റെ എഴുത്തിന്റെ പകര്പ്പു രെഹൂമും രായസക്കാരനായ ശിംശായിയും അവരുടെ കൂട്ടക്കാരും വായിച്ചു കേട്ടശേഷം അവര് യെരൂശലേമില് യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ചെന്നു ബലാല്ക്കാരത്തോടെ അവരെ ഹേമിച്ചു പണിമുടക്കി.

23. Now when the copy of King Artaxerxes' letter [was] read before Rehum, and Shimshai, the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews and made them to cease by force and power.

24. അങ്ങനെ യെരൂശലേമിലെ ദൈവാലയത്തിന്റെ പണി മുടങ്ങി; പാര്സിരാജാവായ ദാര്യ്യാവേശിന്റെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ രണ്ടാം ആണ്ടുവരെ പണി മുടങ്ങിക്കിടന്നു.

24. Then the work of the house of God which [was] at Jerusalem ceased. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius, king of Persia.:
