1. പ്രവാസികള് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു മന്ദിരം പണിയുന്നു എന്നു യെഹൂദയുടെയും ബെന്യാമീന്റെയും വൈരികള് കേട്ടപ്പോള്

1. And when the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the sons of the exile built the temple to Jehovah the God of Israel,

2. അവര് സെരുബ്ബാബേലിന്റെയും പിതൃഭവനത്തലവന്മാരുടെയും അടുക്കല് വന്നു അവരോടുഞങ്ങള് നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പണിയട്ടെ; നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തെ നിങ്ങളെന്നപോലെ ഞങ്ങളും അന്വേഷിക്കയും ഞങ്ങള് അവന്നു, ഞങ്ങളെ ഇവിടെ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവായ എസര്ഹദ്ദോന്റെ കാലംമുതല് യാഗം കഴിക്കയും ചെയ്തുപോരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. then they came to Zerubbabel and to the head of the fathers and said to them, Let us build with you, for we seek your God, as you. And we have not sacrificed to Him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here.

3. അതിന്നു സെരുബ്ബാബേലും യേശുവയും ശേഷം യിസ്രായേല്പിതൃഭവനത്തലവന്മാരും അവരോടുഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയം പണിയുന്നതില് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഞങ്ങളുമായി കാര്യമൊന്നുമില്ല; പാര്സിരാജാവായ കോരെശ്രാജാവു ഞങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ഞങ്ങള് തന്നേ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു അതു പണിതുകൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of the fathers of Israel said to them, It is not for you and for us to build a house to our God. But we ourselves will together build to Jehovah the God of Israel, as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.

4. ആകയാല് ദേശനിവാസികള് യെഹൂദാജനത്തിന്നു ധൈര്യക്ഷയം വരുത്തി പണിയാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരെ പേടിപ്പിച്ചു.

4. Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah and terrified them in building.

5. അവരുടെ ഉദ്ദേശം നിഷ്ഫലമാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവര് പാര്സിരാജാവായ കോരെശിന്റെ കാലത്തൊക്കെയും പാര്സിരാജാവായ ദാര്യ്യാവേശിന്റെ വാഴ്ചവരെയും അവര്ക്കും വിരോധമായി കാര്യസ്ഥന്മാരെ കൈക്കൂലി കൊടുത്തു വശത്താക്കി.

5. And they hired counselors against them to break their purpose all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

6. അഹശ്വേരോശിന്റെ കാലത്തു, അവന്റെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ ആരംഭത്തില് തന്നേ, അവര് യെഹൂദയിലെയും യെരൂശലേമിലെയും നിവാസികള്ക്കു വിരോധമായി അന്യായപത്രം എഴുതി അയച്ചു.

6. And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation against the people of Judah and Jerusalem.

7. അര്ത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാവിന്റെ കാലത്തു ബിശലാമും മിത്രെദാത്തും താബെയേലും ശേഷം അവരുടെ കൂട്ടക്കാരും പാസിരാജാവായ അര്ത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാവിന്നു ഒരു പത്രിക എഴുതി അയച്ചു; പത്രിക അരാമ്യാക്ഷരത്തില്, അരാമ്യഭാഷയില് തന്നേ എഴുതിയിരുന്നു.

7. And in the days of Artaxerxes, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions wrote to Artaxerxes the king of Persia. And the letter was written in Aramaic, and translated from Aramaic.

8. ധര്മ്മാദ്ധ്യക്ഷനായ രെഹൂമും രായസക്കാരനായ ശിംശായിയും യെരൂശലേമിന്നു വിരോധമായി അര്ത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാരാജാവിന്നു ഒരു പത്രിക എഴുതി അയച്ചു.

8. Rehum, the master of counsel in charge, and Shimshai the scribe, wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king, thus:

9. ധര്മ്മാദ്ധ്യക്ഷന് രെഹൂമും രായസക്കാരന് ശിംശായിയും ശേഷം അവരുടെ കൂട്ടക്കാരായ ദീന്യര്, അഫര്സത്യര്, തര്പ്പേല്യര്, അഫര്സ്യര്, അര്ക്കവ്യര്, ബാബേല്യര്, ശൂശന്യര്, ദേഹാവ്യര്, ഏലാമ്യര് എന്നിവരും

9. Then Rehum the master of counsel, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their associates, the judges and the emissaries, the consuls, the officials, the Erechites, the Babylonians, the men of Susa, (that is, the Elamites),

10. മഹാനും ശ്രേഷ്ഠനുമായ അസ്നപ്പാര് പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവന്നു ശമര്യ്യാപട്ടണങ്ങളിലും നദിക്കു ഇക്കരെ മറ്റു ദിക്കുകളിലും പാര്പ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ശേഷംജാതികളും ഇത്യാദി.

10. and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar exiled and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest of the province Beyond the River, and now,

11. അവര് അര്ത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാരാജാവിന്നു അയച്ച പത്രികയുടെ പകര്പ്പു എന്തെന്നാല്നദിക്കു ഇക്കരെയുള്ള നിന്റെ ദാസന്മാരായ പുരുഷന്മാര് ഇത്യാദിരാജാവു ബോധിപ്പാന്

11. this is the copy of the letter which they sent to him, to Artaxerxes the king: Your servants, the men of the province Beyond the River, and now,

12. തിരുമുമ്പില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് യെരൂശലേമില് വന്നിരിക്കുന്ന യെഹൂദന്മാര് മത്സരവും ദുഷ്ടതയുമുള്ള ആ പട്ടണം പണികയും അതിന്റെ മതിലുകള് കെട്ടുകയും അടിസ്ഥാനങ്ങള് നന്നാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

12. let it be known to the king that the Jews who came up from you to us have come to Jerusalem. They are rebuilding the rebellious and the evil city and are completing its walls, and have joined the foundations.

13. പട്ടണം പണിതു മതിലുകള് കെട്ടിത്തീര്ന്നാല് അവര് കരമോ നികുതിയോ ചുങ്കമോ ഒന്നും അടെക്കയില്ല; അങ്ങനെ ഒടുവില് അവര് രാജാക്കന്മാര്ക്കും നഷ്ടം വരുത്തും എന്നു രാജാവിന്നു ബോധിച്ചിരിക്കേണം.

13. Now let it be known to the king that if this city is rebuilt, and the walls completed, they will not give tax, tribute, and forced labor, and it will cause the king's revenue to suffer.

14. എന്നാല് ഞങ്ങള് കോവിലകത്തെ ഉപ്പു തിന്നുന്നവരാകയാലും രാജാവിന്നു അപമാനം വരുന്നതു കണ്ടുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നതു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉചിതമല്ലായ്കയാലും ഞങ്ങള് ആളയച്ചു രാജാവിനെ ഇതു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു.

14. Now because we have eaten of the palace salt, and it is not right for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore we have sent and notified the king,

15. അവിടത്തെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ വൃത്താന്തപുസ്തകത്തില് നോക്കിയാല് ഈ പട്ടണം മത്സരവും രാജാക്കന്മാര്ക്കും സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങള്ക്കും ഉപദ്രവവും ഉള്ള പട്ടണം എന്നും അതില് അവര് പുരാതനമേ കലഹം ഉണ്ടാക്കിയതിനാല് ഈ പട്ടണം നശിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്നു എന്നും വൃത്താന്തപുസ്തകത്തില്നിന്നു അറിവാകും.

15. so that he may search in the book of the records of your fathers, and you shall discover in the book of the records and shall know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful to kings and to provinces; and insurrection was stirred up in it in the past; for which reason this city was destroyed.

16. ഈ പട്ടണം പണികയും അതിന്റെ മതിലുകള് കെട്ടിത്തീരുകയും ചെയ്താല് അതു നിമിത്തം അവിടത്തേക്കു നദിക്കു ഇക്കരെ ഒരു അവകാശവും ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കയില്ലെന്നു രാജാവിനെ ഉണര്ത്തിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു.

16. We notify the king that if that city is built, and its walls completed, then you shall have no portion Beyond the River.

17. അതിന്നു രാജാവു ധര്മ്മാദ്ധ്യക്ഷനായ രെഹൂമിന്നും രായസക്കാരനായ ശിംശായിക്കും ശമര്യ്യാനിവാസികളായ അവരുടെ കൂട്ടക്കാര്ക്കും നദിക്കും അക്കരെയുള്ള ശേഷംപേര്ക്കും മറുപടി എഴുതി അയച്ചതു എന്തെന്നാല്നിങ്ങള്ക്കു കുശലം ഇത്യാദി;

17. The message the king sent to Rehum the master of counsel, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their associates who dwell in Samaria, and to the rest Beyond the River: Peace! And now,

18. നിങ്ങള് കൊടുത്തയച്ച പത്രിക നമ്മുടെ സന്നിധിയില് വ്യക്തമായി വായിച്ചുകേട്ടു.

18. the letter which you sent to us has been plainly read before me.

19. നാം കല്പന കൊടുത്തിട്ടു അവര് ശോധനചെയ്തു നോക്കിയപ്പോള് ആ പട്ടണം പുരാതനമേ രാജാക്കന്മാരോടു എതിര്ത്തുനിലക്കുന്നതു എന്നും അതില് മത്സരവും കലഹവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു എന്നും

19. And I gave a decree, and search has been made, and it is found that this city has lifted up itself against kings in the past, and rebellion and revolt have been made in it.

20. യെരൂശലേമില് ബലവാന്മാരായ രാജാക്കന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവര് നദിക്കു അക്കരെയുള്ള നാടൊക്കെയും വാണു കരവും നികുതിയും ചുങ്കവും വാങ്ങിവന്നു എന്നും കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

20. There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all Beyond the River. And tax, tribute, and forced labor were paid to them.

21. ആകയാല് നാം മറ്റൊരു കല്പന അയക്കുന്നതുവരെ അവര് പട്ടണം പണിയുന്നതു നിര്ത്തിവെക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ആജ്ഞാപിപ്പിന് .

21. Now make a decree to cause these men to cease, and that this city not be rebuilt until the decree shall be given from me.

22. നിങ്ങള് അതില് ഉപേക്ഷചെയ്യാതെ ജാഗ്രതയായിരിപ്പിന് ; രാജാക്കന്മാര്ക്കും നഷ്ടവും ഹാനിയും വരരുതു.

22. And beware of being at fault, to act on this. Why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

23. അര്ത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാരാജാവിന്റെ എഴുത്തിന്റെ പകര്പ്പു രെഹൂമും രായസക്കാരനായ ശിംശായിയും അവരുടെ കൂട്ടക്കാരും വായിച്ചു കേട്ടശേഷം അവര് യെരൂശലേമില് യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ചെന്നു ബലാല്ക്കാരത്തോടെ അവരെ ഹേമിച്ചു പണിമുടക്കി.

23. Then as soon as the copy of the letter of Artaxerxes the king was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their associates, they hurried to Jerusalem to the Jews, and made them stop working by force and power.

24. അങ്ങനെ യെരൂശലേമിലെ ദൈവാലയത്തിന്റെ പണി മുടങ്ങി; പാര്സിരാജാവായ ദാര്യ്യാവേശിന്റെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ രണ്ടാം ആണ്ടുവരെ പണി മുടങ്ങിക്കിടന്നു.

24. Then the work of the house of God in Jerusalem stopped. So it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
