1. യാക്കേയുടെ മകനായ ആഗൂരിന്റെ വചനങ്ങള്; ഒരു അരുളപ്പാടു; ആ പുരുഷന്റെ വാക്യമാവിതുദൈവമേ, ഞാന് അദ്ധ്വാനിച്ചു, ദൈവമേ, ഞാന് അദ്ധ്വാനിച്ചു ക്ഷയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

1. These things says the man to them that trust in God; and I cease.

2. ഞാന് സകലമനുഷ്യരിലും മൃഗപ്രായനത്രേ; മാനുഷബുദ്ധി എനിക്കില്ല;

2. For I am the most simple of all men, and there is not in me the wisdom of men.

3. ഞാന് ജ്ഞാനം അഭ്യസിച്ചിട്ടില്ല; പരിശുദ്ധനായവന്റെ പരിജ്ഞാനം എനിക്കില്ല.

3. God has taught me wisdom, and I know the knowledge of the Holy One.

4. സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് കയറുകയും ഇറങ്ങിവരികയും ചെയ്തവന് ആര്? കാറ്റിനെ തന്റെ മുഷ്ടിയില് പിടിച്ചടക്കിയവന് ആര്? വെള്ളങ്ങളെ വസ്ത്രത്തില് കെട്ടിയവന് ആര്? ഭൂമിയുടെ അറുതികളെയൊക്കെയും നിയമിച്ചവന് ആര്? അവന്റെ പേരെന്തു? അവന്റെ മകന്റെ പേര് എന്തു? നിനക്കറിയാമോ?

4. Who has gone up to heaven, and come down? Who has gathered the winds in His bosom? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has dominion of all the ends of the earth? What is His name? Or what is the name of His children?

5. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സകലവചനവും ശുദ്ധിചെയ്തതാകുന്നു; തന്നില് ആശ്രയിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും അവന് പരിച തന്നേ.

5. For all the words of God are tried in the fire, and He defends those that reverence Him.

6. അവന്റെ വചനങ്ങളോടു നീ ഒന്നും കൂട്ടരുതു; അവന് നിന്നെ വിസ്തരിച്ചിട്ടു നീ കള്ളനാകുവാന് ഇട വരരുതു.

6. Add not unto His words, lest He reprove you, and you be made a liar.

7. രണ്ടു കാര്യം ഞാന് നിന്നോടു അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു; ജീവപര്യന്തം അവ എനിക്കു നിഷേധിക്കരുതേ;

7. Two things I ask of you; take not favor from me before I die.

8. വ്യാജവും ഭോഷകും എന്നോടു അകറ്റേണമേ; ദാരിദ്ര്യവും സമ്പത്തും എനിക്കു തരാതെ നിത്യവൃത്തി തന്നു എന്നെ പോഷിപ്പിക്കേണമേ.

8. Remove vanity and falsehood far from me, and give me neither wealth nor poverty, but appoint [to] me what is needful and sufficient:

9. ഞാന് തൃപ്തനായിത്തീര്ന്നിട്ടുയഹോവ ആര് എന്നു നിന്നെ നിഷേധിപ്പാനും ദരിദ്രനായിത്തീര്ന്നിട്ടു മോഷ്ടിച്ചു എന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നാമത്തെ തീണ്ടിപ്പാനും സംഗതി വരരുതേ.

9. lest I be filled and become false, and say, Who sees me? Or be poor and steal, and swear vainly by the name of God.

10. ദാസനെക്കുറിച്ചു യജമാനനോടു ഏഷണി പറയരുതു; അവന് നിന്നെ ശപിപ്പാനും നീ കുറ്റക്കാരനായിത്തീരുവാനും ഇടവരരുതു.

10. Deliver not a servant into the hands of his master, lest he curse you, and you be utterly destroyed.

11. അപ്പനെ ശപിക്കയും അമ്മയെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നോരു തലമുറ!

11. A wicked generation curse their father, and do not bless their mother.

12. തങ്ങള്ക്കു തന്നേ നിര്മ്മലരായിത്തോന്നുന്നവരും അശുദ്ധി കഴുകിക്കളയാത്തവരുമായോരു തലമുറ!

12. A wicked generation judge themselves to be just, but do not cleanse their way.

13. അയ്യോ ഈ തലമുറയുടെ കണ്ണുകള് എത്ര ഉയര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു -- അവരുടെ കണ്ണിമകള് എത്ര പൊങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു --

13. A wicked generation have lofty eyes, and exalt themselves with their eyelids.

14. എളിയവരെ ഭൂമിയില്നിന്നും ദരിദ്രരെ മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നും തിന്നുകളവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം മുമ്പല്ലു വാളായും അണപ്പല്ലു കത്തിയായും ഇരിക്കുന്നോരു തലമുറ!

14. A wicked generation have swords for teeth and jaw-teeth as knives, so as to destroy and devour the lowly from the earth, and the poor of them from among men.

15. കന്നട്ടെക്കുതരിക, തരിക എന്ന രണ്ടു പുത്രിമാര് ഉണ്ടു; ഒരിക്കലും തൃപ്തിവരാത്തതു മൂന്നുണ്ടു; മതി എന്നു പറയാത്തതു നാലുണ്ടു

15. The leech had three dearly beloved daughters, and these three did not satisfy her; and the fourth was not contented so as to say, Enough.

16. പാതാളവും വന്ധ്യയുടെ ഗര്ഭപാത്രവും വെള്ളം കുടിച്ചു തൃപ്തിവരാത്ത ഭൂമിയും മതി എന്നു പറയാത്ത തീയും തന്നേ.

16. The grave, and the love of a woman, and the earth not filled with water; water also and fire will not say, It is enough.

17. അപ്പനെ പരിഹസിക്കയും അമ്മയെ അനുസരിക്കാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്ന കണ്ണിനെ തോട്ടരികത്തെ കാക്ക കൊത്തിപ്പറിക്കയും കഴുകിന് കുഞ്ഞുകള് തിന്നുകയും ചെയ്യും.

17. The eye that laughs to scorn a father, and dishonors the old age of a mother, let the ravens of the valleys pick it out, and let the young eagles devour it.

18. എനിക്കു അതിവിസ്മയമായി തോന്നുന്നതു മൂന്നുണ്ടു; എനിക്കു അറിഞ്ഞുകൂടാത്തതു നാലുണ്ടു

18. Moreover there are three things impossible for me to comprehend, and the fourth I know not:

19. ആകാശത്തു കഴുകന്റെ വഴിയും പാറമേല് സര്പ്പത്തിന്റെ വഴിയും സമുദ്രമദ്ധ്യേ കപ്പലിന്റെ വഴിയും കന്യകയോടുകൂടെ പുരുഷന്റെ വഴിയും തന്നേ.

19. the track of a flying eagle; and the ways of a serpent on a rock; and the paths of a ship passing through the sea; and the ways of a man in [his] youth.

20. വ്യഭിചാരിണിയുടെ വഴിയും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ. അവള് തിന്നു വായ് തുടെച്ചിട്ടു ഞാന് ഒരു ദോഷവും ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ലെന്നു പറയുന്നു.

20. Such is the way of an adulterous woman, who having washed herself from what she has done, says she has done nothing amiss.

21. മൂന്നിന്റെ നിമിത്തം ഭൂമി വിറെക്കുന്നു; നാലിന്റെ നിമിത്തം അതിന്നു സഹിച്ചു കൂടാ

21. By three things the earth is troubled, and for four it cannot bear:

22. ദാസന് രാജാവായാല് അവന്റെ നിമിത്തവും ഭോഷന് തിന്നു തൃപ്തനായാല് അവന്റെ നിമിത്തവും

22. if a servant should reign, or a fool be filled with food;

23. വിലക്ഷണെക്കു വിവാഹം കഴിഞ്ഞാല് അവളുടെ നിമിത്തവും ദാസി യജമാനത്തിയുടെ സ്ഥാനം പ്രാപിച്ചാല് അവളുടെ നിമിത്തവും തന്നേ.

23. or if a maid-servant should cast out her own mistress, and if a hateful woman should marry a good man.

24. ഭൂമിയില് എത്രയും ചെറിയവയെങ്കിലും അത്യന്തം ജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവയായിട്ടു നാലുണ്ടു

24. And there are four very little things upon the earth, but these are wiser than the wise:

25. ഉറുമ്പു ബലഹീനജാതി എങ്കിലും അതു വേനല്ക്കാലത്തു ആഹാരം സമ്പാദിച്ചു വെക്കുന്നു.

25. the ants which are weak, and yet prepare their food in summer;

26. കുഴിമുയല് ശക്തിയില്ലാത്ത ജാതി എങ്കിലും അതു പാറയില് പാര്പ്പിടം ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നു.

26. the rock hyraxes also are a feeble race, who make their houses in the rocks.

27. വെട്ടുക്കിളിക്കു രാജാവില്ല എങ്കിലും അതൊക്കെയും അണിയണിയായി പുറപ്പെടുന്നു.

27. The locusts have no king, and yet [they] march orderly at one command.

28. പല്ലിയെ കൈകൊണ്ടു പിടിക്കാം എങ്കിലും അതു രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ അരമനകളില് പാര്ക്കുംന്നു.

28. And the lizard, which supports itself by its hands, and is easily taken, and dwells in the fortresses of kings.

29. ചന്തമായി നടകൊള്ളുന്നതു മൂന്നുണ്ടു; ചന്തമായി നടക്കുന്നതു നാലുണ്ടു

29. And there are three things which go well, and a fourth which passes along finely:

30. മൃഗങ്ങളില്വെച്ചു ശക്തിയേറിയതും ഒന്നിന്നും വഴിമാറാത്തതുമായ സിംഹവും

30. A lion's whelp, stronger than all other beasts, which turns not away, nor fears any beast;

31. നായാട്ടുനായും കോലാട്ടുകൊറ്റനും സൈന്യസമേതനായ രാജാവും തന്നേ.

31. and a rooster walking in boldly among the hens, and the goat leading the herd; and a king publicly speaking before a nation.

32. നീ നിഗളിച്ചു ഭോഷത്വം പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കയോ ദോഷം നിരൂപിക്കയോ ചെയ്തുപോയെങ്കില് കൈകൊണ്ടു വായ് പൊത്തിക്കൊള്ക.

32. If you abandon yourself to mirth, and stretch forth your hand in a quarrel, you shall be disgraced.

33. പാല് കടഞ്ഞാല് വെണ്ണയുണ്ടാകും; മൂകൂ ഞെക്കിയാല് ചോര വരും; കോപം ഇളക്കിയാല് വഴക്കുണ്ടാകും.

33. Churn the milk, and there shall be butter, and if you wring one's nostrils, there shall come out blood: so if you extort words, there will come forth quarrels and strife.
