1. മകനേ, കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വേണ്ടി നീ ജാമ്യം നില്ക്കയോ അന്യന്നു വേണ്ടി കയ്യടിക്കയോ ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കില്,

1. My son, if thou be surety for thy neighbour, thou hast fastened thine hand with another man:

2. നിന്റെ വായിലെ വാക്കുകളാല് നീ കുടുങ്ങിപ്പോയി; നിന്റെ വായിലെ മൊഴികളാല് പിടിപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

2. yea thou art bound with thine own words, and taken with thine own speach.

3. ആകയാല് മകനേ, ഇതു ചെയ്ക; നിന്നെത്തന്നേ വിടുവിക്ക; കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ കയ്യില് നീ അകപ്പെട്ടുപോയല്ലോ; നീ ചെന്നു, താണുവീണു കൂട്ടുകാരനോടു മുട്ടിച്ചപേക്ഷിക്ക.

3. Therefore my son, do this: discharge thyself, for thou art come into thy neighbour's danger. Go thy way then soon, and entreat thy neighbour:

4. നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു ഉറക്കവും നിന്റെ കണ്ണിമെക്കു നിദ്രയും കൊടുക്കരുതു.

4. let not thine eyes sleep, nor thine eyelids slumber.

5. മാന് നായാട്ടുകാരന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും പക്ഷി വേട്ടക്കാരന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും എന്നപോലെ നീ നിന്നെത്തന്നേ വിടുവിക്ക,

5. Save thyself as a doe from the hand, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

6. മടിയാ, ഉറുമ്പിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെല്ലുക; അതിന്റെ വഴികളെ നോക്കി ബുദ്ധിപഠിക്ക.

6. Go to the Emmet (thou sluggard) consider her ways, and learn to be wise.

7. അതിന്നു നായകനും മേല്വിചാരകനും അധിപതിയും ഇല്ലാതിരുന്നിട്ടും

7. She hath no guide, no teacher, no leader:

8. വേനല്ക്കാലത്തു തന്റെ ആഹാരം ഒരുക്കുന്നു; കൊയ്ത്തുകാലത്തു തന്റെ തീന് ശേഖരിക്കുന്നു.

8. yet in the Summer she provideth her meat, and gathereth her food together in the harvest.

9. മടിയാ, നീ എത്രനേരം കിടന്നുറങ്ങും? എപ്പോള് ഉറക്കത്തില് നിന്നെഴുന്നേലക്കും?

9. How long wilt thou sleep, thou sluggish man? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

10. ക്കുറേക്കൂടെ ഉറക്കം; കുറേക്കൂടെ നിദ്ര; കുറെക്കൂടെ കൈകെട്ടിക്കിടക്ക.

10. Yea sleep on still a little, slumber a little, fold thy hands together yet a little, that thou mayest sleep:

11. അങ്ങനെ നിന്റെ ദാരിദ്ര്യം വഴിപോക്കനെപ്പോലെയും നിന്റെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടു ആയുധപാണിയെപ്പോലെയും വരും.

11. so shall poverty come unto thee as one that travaileth by the way, and necessity like a weaponed man.

12. നിസ്സാരനും ദുഷ്കര്മ്മിയുമായവന് വായുടെ വക്രതയോടെ നടക്കുന്നു.

12. A dissembling person, a wicked man goeth with a froward mouth,

13. അവന് കണ്ണിമെക്കുന്നു; കാല്കൊണ്ടു പരണ്ടുന്നു; വിരല്കൊണ്ടു ആംഗ്യം കാണിക്കുന്നു.

13. he winketh with his eyes, he tokeneth with his feet, he pointeth with his fingers,

14. അവന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില് വക്രതയുണ്ടു; അവന് എല്ലായ്പോഴും ദോഷം നിരൂപിച്ചു വഴക്കുണ്ടാക്കുന്നു.

14. he is ever imagining mischief and frowardness in his heart, and causeth discord.

15. അതുകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ ആപത്തു പെട്ടെന്നു വരും; ക്ഷണത്തില് അവന് തകര്ന്നുപോകും; പ്രതിശാന്തിയുണ്ടാകയുമില്ല.

15. Therefore shall his destruction come hastily upon him, suddenly shall he be all broken, and not healed.

16. ആറു കാര്യം യഹോവ വെറുക്കുന്നു; ഏഴു കാര്യം അവന്നു അറെപ്പാകുന്നു

16. There be six things which the LORD hateth, and the seventh he utterly abhoreth:

17. ഗര്വ്വമുള്ള കണ്ണും വ്യാജമുള്ള നാവും കുറ്റമില്ലാത്ത രക്തം ചൊരിയുന്ന കയ്യും

17. A proud look, a dissembling tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,

18. ദുരുപായം നിരൂപിക്കുന്ന ഹൃദയവും ദോഷത്തിന്നു ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ഔടുന്ന കാലും

18. an heart that goeth about with wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in renning to do mischief,

19. ഭോഷകു പറയുന്ന കള്ളസാക്ഷിയും സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് വഴക്കുണ്ടാക്കുന്നവനും തന്നേ.

19. a false witness that bringeth up lies, and such one as soweth discord among brethren.

20. മകനേ, നിന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ കല്പന പ്രമാണിക്ക; അമ്മയുടെ ഉപദേശം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കയുമരുതു.

20. My son, keep thy father's commandments, and forsake not the law of thy mother.

21. അതു എല്ലായ്പോഴും നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തോടു ബന്ധിച്ചുകൊള്ക; നിന്റെ കഴുത്തില് അതു കെട്ടിക്കൊള്ക.

21. Put them up together in thine heart, and bind them about thy neck.

22. നീ നടക്കുമ്പോള് അതു നിനക്കു വഴികാണിക്കും. നീ ഉറങ്ങുമ്പോള് അതു നിന്നെ കാക്കും; നീ ഉണരുമ്പോള് അതു നിന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കും.

22. That they may lead thee where thou goest, preserve thee when thou art asleep, and that when thou awakest, thou mayest talk of them.

23. കല്പന ഒരു ദീപവും ഉപദേശം ഒരു വെളിച്ചവും പ്രബോധനത്തിന്റെ ശാസനകള് ജീവന്റെ മാര്ഗ്ഗവും ആകുന്നു.

23. For the commandment is a lantern, and the law a light: yea chastening and nurture is the way of life:

24. അവ ദുഷ്ടസ്ത്രീയുടെ വശീകരണത്തില്നിന്നും പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ ചക്കരവാക്കുകളില്നിന്നും നിന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കും.

24. that they may keep thee from the evil woman, and from the flattering tongue of the harlot:

25. അവളുടെ സൌന്ദര്യത്തെ നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില് മോഹിക്കരുതു; അവള് കണ്ണിമകൊണ്ടു നിന്നെ വശീകരിക്കയുമരുതു.

25. that thou lust not after her beauty in thine heart, and lest thou be taken with her fair looks.

26. വേശ്യാസ്ത്രീനിമിത്തം പെറുക്കിത്തിന്നേണ്ടിവരും; വ്യഭിചാരിണി വിലയേറിയ ജീവനെ വേട്ടയാടുന്നു.

26. An Harlot will make a man to beg his bread, but a married woman will hunt for the precious life.

27. ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്നു തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം വെന്തു പോകാതെ മടിയില് തീ കൊണ്ടുവരാമോ?

27. May a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be brent?

28. ഒരുത്തന്നു കാല് പൊള്ളാതെ തീക്കനലിന്മേല് നടക്കാമോ?

28. Or can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be hurt?

29. കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ ഭാര്യയുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെല്ലുന്നവന് ഇങ്ങനെ തന്നേ; അവളെ തൊടുന്ന ഒരുത്തനും ശിക്ഷവരാതെയിരിക്കയില്ല.

29. Even so, whosoever goeth in to his neighbour's wife, and toucheth her, can not be unguilty.

30. കള്ളന് വിശന്നിട്ടു വിശപ്പടക്കുവാന് മാത്രം കട്ടാല് ആരും അവനെ നിരസിക്കുന്നില്ല.

30. Men do not utterly despise a thief, that stealeth to satisfy his soul, when he is hungry:

31. അവനെ പിടികിട്ടിയാല് അവന് ഏഴിരട്ടി മടക്കിക്കൊടുക്കാം; തന്റെ വീട്ടിലെ വസ്തുവക ഒക്കെയും കൊടുക്കാം;

31. But if he may be gotten, he restoreth again seven times as much, or else he maketh recompense with all the goods of his house.

32. സ്ത്രീയോടു വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്യുന്നവനോ, ബുദ്ധിഹീനന് ; അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യുന്നവന് സ്വന്തപ്രാണനെ നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

32. But whoso committeth advoutry with a woman, he is a fool, and bringeth his life to destruction.

33. പ്രഹരവും അപമാനവും അവന്നു ലഭിക്കും; അവന്റെ നിന്ദ മാഞ്ഞുപോകയുമില്ല.

33. He getteth himself also shame and dishonour, such as shall never be put out.

34. ജാരശങ്ക പുരുഷന്നു ക്രോധഹേതുവാകുന്നു; പ്രതികാരദിവസത്തില് അവന് ഇളെക്കുകയില്ല.

34. For the jealousy and wrath of the man will not be intreated,

35. അവന് യാതൊരു പ്രതിശാന്തിയും കൈക്കൊള്ളുകയില്ല; എത്ര സമ്മാനം കൊടുത്താലും അവന് തൃപ്തിപ്പെടുകയുമില്ല.

35. no though thou wouldest offer him great gifts to make amends, he will not receive them.
