1. നെബൂഖദ് നേസര്രാജാവു സര്വ്വഭൂമിയിലും പാര്ക്കുംന്ന സകലവംശങ്ങള്ക്കും ജാതികള്ക്കും ഭാഷക്കാര്ക്കും എഴുതുന്നതുനിങ്ങള്ക്കു ശുഭം വര്ദ്ധിച്ചുവരട്ടെ.

1. King Nebuchadnezzar sent the following letter to the people of all nations and races on the earth: Greetings to all of you!

2. അത്യുന്നതനായ ദൈവം എങ്കല് പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ച അടയാളങ്ങളും അത്ഭുതങ്ങളും പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കുന്നതു നന്നെന്നു എനിക്കു തോന്നിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

2. I am glad to tell about the wonderful miracles God Most High has done for me.

3. അവന്റെ അടയാളങ്ങള് എത്ര വലിയവ! അവന്റെ അത്ഭുതങ്ങള് എത്ര ശ്രേഷ്ഠമായവ! അവന്റെ രാജത്വം എന്നേക്കുമുള്ള രാജത്വവും അവന്റെ ആധിപത്യം തലമുറതലമുറയായുള്ളതും ആകുന്നു.

3. His miracles are mighty and marvelous. He will rule forever, and his kingdom will never end.

4. നെബൂഖദ് നേസര് എന്ന ഞാന് എന്റെ അരമനയില് സ്വൈരമായും എന്റെ രാജധാനിയില് സുഖമായും വസിച്ചിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഒരു സ്വപ്നം കണ്ടു,

4. I was enjoying a time of peace and prosperity,

5. അതുനിമിത്തം ഭയപ്പെട്ടു, കിടക്കയില്വെച്ചു എനിക്കുണ്ടായ നിരൂപണങ്ങളാലും ദര്ശനങ്ങളാലും വ്യാകുലപ്പെട്ടു.

5. when suddenly I had some horrifying dreams and visions.

6. സ്വപ്നത്തിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ബാബേലിലെ സകലവിദ്വാന്മാരെയും എന്റെ മുമ്പില് കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് ഞാന് കല്പിച്ചു.

6. Then I commanded every wise man in Babylonia to appear in my court, so they could explain the meaning of my dream.

7. അങ്ങനെ മന്ത്രവാദികളും ആഭിചാരകന്മാരും കല്ദയരും ശകുനവാദികളും അകത്തു വന്നു; ഞാന് സ്വപ്നം അവരോടു വിവരിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു; അവര് അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിച്ചില്ല താനും.

7. After they arrived, I told them my dream, but they were not able to say what it meant.

8. ഒടുവില് എന്റെ ദേവന്റെ നാമദേധപ്രകാരം ബേല്ത്ത് ശസ്സര് എന്നു പേരുള്ളവനും വിശുദ്ധദേവന്മാരുടെ ആത്മാവുള്ളവനുമായ ദാനീയേല് എന്റെ മുമ്പില് വന്നു; അവനോടു ഞാന് സ്വപ്നം വിവരിച്ചതെന്തെന്നാല്

8. Finally, a young man named Daniel came in, and I told him the dream. The holy gods had given him special powers, and I had renamed him Belteshazzar after my own god.

9. I said, 'Belteshazzar, not only are you the wisest of all advisors and counselors, but the holy gods have given you special powers to solve the most difficult mysteries. So listen to what I dreamed and tell me what it means:

10. കിടക്കയില്വെച്ചു എനിക്കു ഉണ്ടായ ദര്ശനമാവിതുഭൂമിയുടെ നടുവില് ഞാന് ഒരു വൃക്ഷം കണ്ടു; അതു ഏറ്റവും ഉയരമുള്ളതായിരുന്നു.

10. In my sleep I saw a very tall tree in the center of the world.

11. ആ വൃക്ഷം വളര്ന്നു ബലപ്പെട്ടു; അതു ആകാശത്തോളം ഉയരമുള്ളതും സര്വ്വഭൂമിയുടെയും അറ്റത്തോളം കാണാകുന്നതും ആയിരുന്നു.

11. It grew stronger and higher, until it reached to heaven and could be seen from anywhere on earth.

12. അതിന്റെ ഇല ഭംഗിയുള്ളതും ഫലം അനവധിയും ആയിരുന്നു; എല്ലാവര്ക്കും അതില് ആഹാരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; കാട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങള് അതിന്റെ കീഴെ തണലിളെച്ചുവന്നു; ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികള് അതിന്റെ കൊമ്പുകളില് വസിച്ചു; സകലജഡവും അതുകൊണ്ടു ഉപജീവനം കഴിച്ചുപോന്നു.

12. It was covered with leaves and heavy with fruit-- enough for all nations. Wild animals enjoyed its shade, birds nested in its branches, and all creatures on earth lived on its fruit.

13. കിടക്കയില്വെച്ചു എനിക്കു ഉണ്ടായ ദര്ശനത്തില് ഒരു ദൂതന് , ഒരു പരിശുദ്ധന് തന്നേ, സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില്നിന്നു ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്നതു ഞാന് കണ്ടു.

13. 'While I was in bed, having this vision, a holy angel came down from heaven

14. അവന് ഉച്ചത്തില് വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞതുവൃക്ഷം വെട്ടിയിട്ടു, അതിന്റെ കൊമ്പു മുറിച്ചു, ഇല കുടഞ്ഞു, കായി ചിതറിച്ചുകളവിന് ; അതിന്റെ കീഴില്നിന്നു മൃഗങ്ങളും കൊമ്പുകളില്നിന്നു പക്ഷികളും പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളട്ടെ.

14. and shouted: 'Chop down the tree and cut off its branches; strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Make the animals leave its shade and send the birds flying from its branches.

15. അതിന്റെ തായ് വേരോ വയലിലെ ഇളമ്പുല്ലില് ഇരിമ്പും താമ്രവുംകൊണ്ടുള്ള ബന്ധനത്തോടെ ഭൂമിയില് വെച്ചേക്കുവിന് ; അവന് ആകാശത്തിലെ മഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു നനയട്ടെ; അവന്നു മൃഗങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ നിലത്തെ പുല്ലു ഉപജീവനം ആയിരിക്കട്ടെ.

15. But leave its stump and roots in the ground, surrounded by grass and held by chains of iron and bronze. 'Make sure that this ruler lives like the animals out in the open fields, unprotected from the dew.

16. അവന്റെ മാനുഷസ്വഭാവം മാറി മൃഗസ്വഭാവമായിത്തീരട്ടെ; അങ്ങനെ അവന്നു ഏഴു കാലം കഴിയട്ടെ.

16. Give him the mind of a wild animal for seven long years.

17. അത്യുന്നതനായവന് മനുഷ്യരുടെ രാജത്വത്തിന്മേല് വാഴുകയും അതിനെ തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ചവന്നു കൊടുക്കയും മനുഷ്യരില് അധമനായവനെ അതിന്മേല് വാഴിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു ജീവനോടിരിക്കുന്നവര് അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഈ വിധി ദൂതന്മാരുടെ നിര്ണ്ണയവും കാര്യം വിശുദ്ധന്മാരുടെ കല്പനയും ആകുന്നു.

17. This punishment is given at the command of the holy angels. It will show to all who live that God Most High controls all kingdoms and chooses for their rulers persons of humble birth.'

18. നെബൂഖദ്നേസര്രാജാവായ ഞാന് ഈ സ്വപ്നം കണ്ടു; എന്നാല് ബേല്ത്ത് ശസ്സരേ, എന്റെ രാജ്യത്തിലെ വിദ്വാന്മാര്ക്കും ആര്ക്കും അതിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിപ്പാന് കഴിയായ്കകൊണ്ടു നീ അതിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിച്ചുതരേണം; വിശുദ്ധദേവന്മാരുടെ ആത്മാവു നിന്നില് ഉള്ളതുകൊണ്ടു നീ അതിന്നു പ്രാപ്തനാകുന്നു.

18. Daniel, that was the dream that none of the wise men in my kingdom were able to understand. But I am sure that you will understand what it means, because the holy gods have given you some special powers.'

19. അപ്പോള് ബേല്ത്ത് ശസ്സര് എന്നും പേരുള്ള ദാനീയേല് കുറെ നേരത്തേക്കു സ്തംഭിച്ചിരുന്നു; അവര് വിചാരങ്ങളാല് പരവശനായി. രാജാവു അവനോടുബേല്ത്ത് ശസ്സരേ, സ്വപ്നവും അതിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥവുംനിമിത്തം നീ പരവശനാകരുതേ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. ബേല്ത്ത ശസ്സര് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുയജമാനനേ, സ്വപ്നം തിരുമനസ്സിലെ ശത്രുക്കള്ക്കും അതിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥം തിരുമനസ്സിലെ വൈരികള്ക്കും ഭവിക്കട്ടെ.

19. For a while, Daniel was terribly confused and worried by what he was thinking. But I said, 'Don't be bothered either by the dream or by what it means.' Daniel replied: Your Majesty, I wish the dream had been against your enemies.

20. വളര്ന്നു ബലപ്പെട്ടതും ആകാശത്തോളം ഉയരമുള്ളതും ഭൂമിയില് എല്ലാടത്തുനിന്നും കാണാകുന്നതും

20. You saw a tree that grew so big and strong that it reached up to heaven and could be seen from anywhere on earth.

21. ഭംഗിയുള്ള ഇലയും അനവധി ഫലവും എല്ലാവര്ക്കും ആഹാരവും ഉള്ളതും കീഴെ കാട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങള് വസിച്ചതും കൊമ്പുകളില് ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികള്ക്കു പാര്പ്പിടം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുമായി കണ്ട വൃക്ഷം,

21. Its leaves were beautiful, and it produced enough fruit for all living creatures; animals lived in its shade, and birds nested in its branches.

22. രാജാവേ, വര്ദ്ധിച്ചു ബലവാനായി തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്ന തിരുമേനി തന്നേ; തിരുമനസ്സിലെ മഹത്വം വര്ദ്ധിച്ചു ആകാശംവരെയും ആധിപത്യം ഭൂമിയുടെ അറുതിവരെയും എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

22. Your Majesty, that tree is you. Your glorious reputation has reached heaven, and your kingdom covers the earth.

23. ഒരു ദൂതന് , ഒരു പരിശുദ്ധന് തന്നേ സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില്നിന്നു ഇറങ്ങിവന്നുവൃക്ഷത്തെ വെട്ടിയിട്ടു നശിപ്പിച്ചുകളവിന് ; എങ്കിലും അതിന്റെ തായ് വേര് വയലിലെ ഇളമ്പുല്ലില് ഇരിമ്പും താമ്രവും കൊണ്ടുള്ള ബന്ധനത്തോടുകൂടെ ഭൂമിയില് വെച്ചേക്കുവിന് ; അവന് ആകാശത്തിലെ മഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു നനയട്ടെ; അവന്നു ഏഴുകാലം കഴിയുന്നതുവരെ അവന്റെ ഉപജീവനം കാട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങളോടു കൂടെ ആയിരിക്കട്ടെ എന്നിങ്ങനെ പറയുന്നതു രാജാവു കണ്ടുവല്ലോ.

23. Then you saw a holy angel come down from heaven and say, 'Chop down the tree and destroy it! But leave its stump and roots in the ground, fastened there by a chain of iron and bronze. Let it stay for seven years out in the field with the wild animals, unprotected from the dew.'

24. രാജാവേ, അതിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥം ഇതാകുന്നു; എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്റെമേല് വരുന്ന അത്യുന്നതനായവന്റെ വിധി ഇതു തന്നേ;

24. Your Majesty, God Most High has sent you this message, and it means

25. തിരുമേനിയെ മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളയും; തിരുമനസ്സിലെ വാസം കാട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങളോടുകൂടെയാകും. തിരുമേനിയെ കാളയെപ്പോലെ പുല്ലു തീറ്റും; തിരുമേനി ആകാശത്തിലെ മഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു നനയും; മനുഷ്യരുടെ രാജത്വത്തിന്മേല് അത്യുന്നതനായവന് വാഴുകയും അതിനെ തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ചവന്നു കൊടുക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നുവെന്നു തിരുമനസ്സുകൊണ്ടു അറിയുന്നതുവരെ ഏഴു കാലം കഴിയും.

25. that you will be forced to live with the wild animals, far away from humans. You will eat grass like a wild animal and live outdoors for seven years, until you learn that God Most High controls all earthly kingdoms and chooses their rulers.

26. വൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെ തായ് വേര് വെച്ചേക്കുവാന് അവര് കല്പിച്ചതോവാഴുന്നതു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗമാകുന്നു എന്നു തിരുമനസ്സുകൊണ്ടു ഗ്രഹിച്ചശേഷം രാജത്വം തിരുമേനിക്കു സ്ഥിരമാകും എന്നത്രേ.

26. But he gave orders not to disturb the stump and roots. This is to show that you will be king once again, after you learn that the God who rules from heaven is in control.

27. ആകയാല് രാജാവേ, എന്റെ ആലോചന തിരുമനസ്സിലേക്കു പ്രസാദമായിരിക്കട്ടെ; നീതിയാല് പാപങ്ങളെയും ദരിദ്രന്മാര്ക്കും കൃപകാട്ടുന്നതിനാല് അകൃത്യങ്ങളെയും പരിഹരിച്ചുകൊള്ക; അതിനാല് പക്ഷേ തിരുമനസ്സിലെ സുഖകാലം ദീര്ഘമായി നിലക്കും.

27. Your Majesty, please be willing to do what I say. Turn from your sins and start living right; have mercy on those who are mistreated. Then all will go well with you for a long time.

28. ഇതെല്ലാം നെബൂഖദ് നേസര്രാജാവിന്നു വന്നു ഭവിച്ചു.

28. About twelve months later, I was walking on the flat roof of my royal palace and admiring the beautiful city of Babylon, when these things started happening to me. I was saying to myself, 'Just look at this wonderful capital city that I have built by my own power and for my own glory!'

29. പന്ത്രണ്ടു മാസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവന് ബാബേലിലെ രാജമന്ദിരത്തിന്മേല് ഉലാവിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

31. But before I could finish speaking, a voice from heaven interrupted: King Nebuchadnezzar, this kingdom is no longer yours.

32. നിന്നെ മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളയും; നിന്റെ പാര്പ്പു കാട്ടിലെ മൃഗങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ആയിരിക്കും; നിന്നെ കാളയെപ്പോലെ പുല്ലു തീറ്റും; അത്യുന്നതനായവന് മനുഷ്യരുടെ രാജത്വത്തിന്മേല് വാഴുകയും അതിനെ തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ചവന്നു കൊടുക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു നീ അറിയുന്നതുവരെ നിനക്കു ഏഴു കാലം കഴിയും.

32. You will be forced to live with the wild animals, away from people. For seven years you will eat grass, as though you were an ox, until you learn that God Most High is in control of all earthly kingdoms and that he is the one who chooses their rulers.

33. ഉടന് തന്നേ ആ വാക്കു നെബൂഖദ് നേസരിന്നു നിവൃത്തിയായി; അവനെ മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഇടയില് നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു; അവന്റെ രോമം കഴുകന്റെ തൂവല്പോലെയും അവന്റെ നഖം പക്ഷിയുടെ നഖംപോലെയും വളരുന്നതുവരെ, അവന് കാള എന്നപോലെ പുല്ലു തിന്നുകയും അവന്റെ ദേഹം ആകാശത്തിലെ മഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു നനയുകയും ചെയ്തു.

33. This was no sooner said than done--I was forced to live like a wild animal; I ate grass and was unprotected from the dew. As time went by, my hair grew longer than eagle feathers, and my fingernails looked like the claws of a bird.

34. ആ കാലം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു നെബൂഖദ്നേസര് എന്ന ഞാന് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തേക്കു കണ്ണുയര്ത്തി എന്റെ ബുദ്ധിയും എനിക്കു മടങ്ങിവന്നു; ഞാന് അത്യുന്നതനായവനെ വാഴ്ത്തി, എന്നേക്കും ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവനെ സ്മരിച്ചു ബഹുമാനിക്കയും ചെയ്തു; അവന്റെ ആധിപത്യം എന്നേക്കുമുള്ള ആധിപത്യവും അവന്റെ രാജത്വം തലമുറതലമുറയായുള്ളതും അല്ലോ.

34. Finally, I prayed to God in heaven, and my mind was healed. Then I said: 'I praise and honor God Most High. He lives forever, and his kingdom will never end.

35. അവന് സര്വ്വഭൂവാസികളെയും നാസ്തിയായി എണ്ണുന്നു; സ്വര്ഗ്ഗീയ സൈന്യത്തോടും ഭൂവാസികളോടും ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ കൈ തടുപ്പാനോ നീ എന്തു ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു അവനാടു ചോദിപ്പാനോ ആര്ക്കും കഴികയില്ല.

35. To him the nations are far less than nothing; God controls the stars in the sky and everyone on this earth. When God does something, we cannot change it or even ask why.'

36. ആ നേരത്തു തന്നേ എന്റെ ബുദ്ധി മടങ്ങിവന്നു; എന്റെ രാജത്വത്തിന്റെ മഹത്വത്തിന്നായി എന്റെ മഹിമയും മുഖപ്രകാശവും മടങ്ങിവന്നു; എന്റെ മന്ത്രിമാരും മഹത്തുക്കളും എന്നെ അന്വേഷിച്ചു; ഞാന് എന്റെ രാജത്വത്തില് യഥാസ്ഥാനപ്പെട്ടു, ശ്രേഷ്ഠമഹത്വം എനിക്കു അധികമായി സിദ്ധിച്ചു.

36. At that time my mind was healed, and once again I became the ruler of my glorious kingdom. My advisors and officials returned to me, and I had greater power than ever before.

37. ഇപ്പോള് നെബൂഖദ്നേസര് എന്ന ഞാന് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗസ്ഥനായ രാജാവിനെ സ്തുതിച്ചു പകഴ്ത്തി ബഹുമാനിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികള് ഒക്കെയും സത്യവും അവന്റെ വഴികള് ന്യായവും ആകുന്നു; നിഗളിച്ചുനടക്കുന്നവരെ താഴ്ത്തുവാനും അവന് പ്രാപ്തന് തന്നേ.

37. That's why I say: 'Praise and honor the King who rules from heaven! Everything he does is honest and fair, and he can shatter the power of those who are proud.'
