1. ബേല്ശസ്സര്രാജാവു തന്റെ മഹത്തുക്കളില് ആയിരം പേര്ക്കും ഒരു വലിയ വിരുന്നു ഒരുക്കി അവര് കാണ്കെ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചു.

1. King Belshazzar held a great feast for his one thousand nobles. The wine flowed freely.

2. Belshazzar, heady with the wine, ordered that the gold and silver chalices his father Nebuchadnezzar had stolen from God's Temple of Jerusalem be brought in so that he and his nobles, his wives and concubines, could drink from them.

4. അവര് വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചു പൊന്നും വെള്ളിയും താമ്രവും ഇരിമ്പും മരവും കല്ലും കൊണ്ടുള്ള ദേവന്മാരെ സ്തുതിച്ചു.

4. They drank the wine and drunkenly praised their gods made of gold and silver, bronze and iron, wood and stone.

5. At that very moment, the fingers of a human hand appeared and began writing on the lamp-illumined, whitewashed wall of the palace. When the king saw the disembodied hand writing away,

6. ഉടനെ രാജാവിന്റെ മുഖഭാവം മാറി; അവന് വിചാരങ്ങളാല് പരവശനായിഅരയുടെ ഏപ്പു അഴിഞ്ഞു കാല്മുട്ടുകള് ആടിപ്പോയി.

6. he went white as a ghost, scared out of his wits. His legs went limp and his knees knocked.

7. He yelled out for the enchanters, the fortunetellers, and the diviners to come. He told these Babylonian magi, 'Anyone who can read this writing on the wall and tell me what it means will be famous and rich--purple robe, the great gold chain--and be third-in-command in the kingdom.'

8. അങ്ങനെ രാജാവിന്റെ വിദ്വാന്മാരൊക്കെയും അകത്തുവന്നു; എങ്കിലും എഴുത്തു വായിപ്പാനും രാജാവിനെ അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിപ്പാനും അവര്ക്കും കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

8. One after the other they tried, but could make no sense of it. They could neither read what was written nor interpret it to the king.

9. അപ്പോള് ബേല്ശസ്സര്രാജാവു അത്യന്തം വ്യാകുലപ്പെട്ടു, അവന്റെ മുഖഭാവം മാറി, അവന്റെ മഹത്തുക്കള് അമ്പരന്നു പോയി.

9. So now the king was really frightened. All the blood drained from his face. The nobles were in a panic.

10. രാജാവിന്റെ മഹത്തുക്കളുടെയും വാക്കു ഹേതുവായി രാജ്ഞി ഭോജനശാലയില് വന്നുരാജാവു ദീര്ഘായുസ്സായിരിക്കട്ടെ; തിരുമനസ്സുകൊണ്ടു വിചാരങ്ങളാല് പരവശനാകരുതു; മുഖഭാവം മാറുകയും അരുതു.

10. The queen heard of the hysteria among the king and his nobles and came to the banquet hall. She said, 'Long live the king! Don't be upset. Don't sit around looking like ghosts.

11. വിശുദ്ധദേവന്മാരുടെ ആത്മാവുള്ള ഒരു പുരുഷന് തിരുമനസ്സിലെ രാജ്യത്തുണ്ടു; തിരുമേനിയുടെ അപ്പന്റെ കാലത്തു പ്രകാശവും ബുദ്ധിയും ദേവന്മാരുടെ ജ്ഞാനംപോലെയുള്ള ജ്ഞാനവും അവനില് കണ്ടിരുന്നു; തിരുമേനിയുടെ അപ്പനായ നെബൂഖദ്നേസര്രാജാവു, രാജാവേ, തിരുമേനിയുടെ അപ്പന് തന്നേ,

11. There is a man in your kingdom who is full of the divine Holy Spirit. During your father's time he was well known for his intellectual brilliance and spiritual wisdom. He was so good that your father, King Nebuchadnezzar, made him the head of all the magicians, enchanters, fortunetellers, and diviners.

12. ബേല്ത്ത് ശസ്സര് എന്നു പേരുവിളിച്ച ദാനീയേലില് ഉല്കൃഷ്ടമനസ്സും അറിവും ബുദ്ധിയും സ്വപ്നവ്യാഖ്യാനവും ഗൂഢാര്ത്ഥവാക്യ പ്രദര്ശനവും സംശയച്ഛേദനവും കണ്ടിരിക്കയാല്, രാജാവു അവനെ മന്ത്രവാദികള്ക്കും ആഭിചാരകന്മാര്ക്കും കല്ദയര്ക്കും ശകുനവാദികള്ക്കും അധിപതിയാക്കിവെച്ചു; ഇപ്പോള് ദാനീയേലിനെ വിളിക്കട്ടെ; അവന് അര്ത്ഥം ബോധിപ്പിക്കും എന്നു ഉണര്ത്തിച്ചു.

12. There was no one quite like him. He could do anything--interpret dreams, solve mysteries, explain puzzles. His name is Daniel, but he was renamed Belteshazzar by the king. Have Daniel called in. He'll tell you what is going on here.'

13. So Daniel was called in. The king asked him, 'Are you the Daniel who was one of the Jewish exiles my father brought here from Judah?

14. ദേവന്മാരുടെ ആത്മാവു നിന്നില് ഉണ്ടെന്നും പ്രകാശവും ബുദ്ധിയും വിശേഷജ്ഞാനവും നിന്നില് കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നും ഞാന് നിന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

14. I've heard about you--that you're full of the Holy Spirit, that you've got a brilliant mind, that you are incredibly wise.

15. ഇപ്പോള് ഈ എഴുത്തു വായിച്ചു അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു വിദ്വാന്മാരെയും ആഭിചാരകന്മാരെയും എന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ വരുത്തിയിരുന്നു; എങ്കിലും കാര്യത്തിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിപ്പാന് അവര്ക്കും കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

15. The wise men and enchanters were brought in here to read this writing on the wall and interpret it for me. They couldn't figure it out--not a word, not a syllable.

16. എന്നാല് അര്ത്ഥം പറവാനും സംശയച്ഛേദനം ചെയ്വാനും നീ പ്രാപ്തനെന്നു ഞാന് നിന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; ആകയാല് ഈ എഴുത്തു വായിച്ചു, അതിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിപ്പാന് നിനക്കു കഴിയുമെങ്കില് നീ ധൂമ്രവസ്ത്രവും കഴുത്തില് പൊന്മാലയും ധരിച്ചു, രാജ്യത്തിലെ മൂന്നാമനായി വാഴും.

16. But I've heard that you interpret dreams and solve mysteries. So--if you can read the writing and interpret it for me, you'll be rich and famous--a purple robe, the great gold chain around your neck--and third-in-command in the kingdom.'

17. ദാനീയേല് രാജസന്നിധിയില് ഉത്തരം ഉണര്ത്തിച്ചതുദാനങ്ങള് തിരുമേനിക്കു തന്നേ ഇരിക്കട്ടെ; സമ്മാനങ്ങള് മറ്റൊരുത്തന്നു കൊടുത്താലും; എഴുത്തു ഞാന് രാജാവിനെ വായിച്ചുകേള്പ്പിച്ചു അര്ത്ഥം ബോധിപ്പിക്കാം;

17. Daniel answered the king, 'You can keep your gifts, or give them to someone else. But I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means.

18. രാജാവേ, അത്യുന്നതനായ ദൈവം തിരുമേനിയുടെ അപ്പനായ നെബൂഖദ് നേസരിന്നു രാജത്വവും മഹത്വവും പ്രതാപവും ബഹുമാനവും നല്കി.

18. 'Listen, O king! The High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar a great kingdom and a glorious reputation.

19. അവന്നു നല്കിയ മഹത്വം ഹേതുവായി സകലവംശങ്ങളും ജാതികളും ഭാഷക്കാരും അവന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഭയപ്പെട്ടു വിറെച്ചു; തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ചവനെ അവന് കൊല്ലുകയും ബോധിച്ചവനെ ജീവനോടെവെക്കയും ബോധിച്ചവനെ ഉയര്ത്തുകയും ബോധിച്ചവനെ താഴ്ത്തുകയും ചെയ്തുവന്നു.

19. Because God made him so famous, people from everywhere, whatever their race, color, and creed, were totally intimidated by him. He killed or spared people on whim. He promoted or humiliated people capriciously.

20. എന്നാല് അവന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഗര്വ്വിച്ചു, അവന്റെ മനസ്സു അഹങ്കാരത്താല് കഠിനമായിപ്പോയ ശേഷം അവന് രാജാസനത്തില്നിന്നു നീങ്ങിപ്പോയി; അവര് അവന്റെ മഹത്വം അവങ്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തുകളഞ്ഞു.

20. He developed a big head and a hard spirit. Then God knocked him off his high horse and stripped him of his fame.

21. അങ്ങനെ അവന് മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നീങ്ങി; അവന്റെ ഹൃദയം മൃഗപ്രായമായ്തീര്ന്നു; അവന്റെ പാര്പ്പു കാട്ടുകഴുതകളോടുകൂടെ ആയിരുന്നു; അവനെ കാളയെപ്പോലെ പുല്ലു തീറ്റി; മനുഷ്യരുടെ രാജത്വത്തിന്മേല് അത്യുന്നതനായ ദൈവം വാഴുകയും തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ചവനെ അതിന്നു നിയമിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു അവന് അറിഞ്ഞതുവരെ അവന്റെ ദേഹം ആകാശത്തിലെ മഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു നനഞ്ഞു.

21. He was thrown out of human company, lost his mind, and lived like a wild animal. He ate grass like an ox and was soaked by heaven's dew until he learned his lesson: that the High God rules human kingdoms and puts anyone he wants in charge.

22. അവന്റെ മകനായ ബേല്ശസ്സരേ, ഇതൊക്കെയും അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടു തിരുമേനിയുടെ ഹൃദയത്തെ താഴ്ത്താതെ

22. 'You are his son and have known all this, yet you're as arrogant as he ever was.

23. സ്വര്ഗ്ഗസ്ഥനായ കര്ത്താവിന്റെ നേരെ തന്നെത്താന് ഉയര്ത്തി അവന്റെ ആലയത്തിലെ പാത്രങ്ങളെ അവര് തിരുമുമ്പില് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; തിരുമേനിയും മഹത്തുക്കളും തിരുമനസ്സിലെ ഭാര്യമാരും വെപ്പാട്ടികളും അവയില് വീഞ്ഞുകടിച്ചു; കാണ്മാനും കേള്പ്പാനും അറിവാനും വഹിയാത്ത പൊന്നു, വെള്ളി, താമ്രം, ഇരിമ്പു, മരം, കല്ലു എന്നിവകൊണ്ടുള്ള ദേവന്മാരെ സ്തുതിച്ചു; തിരുമനസ്സിലെ ശ്വാസവും എല്ലാവഴികളും കൈവശമുള്ളവനായ ദൈവത്തെ മഹത്വീകരിച്ചചതുമില്ല.

23. Look at you, setting yourself up in competition against the Master of heaven! You had the sacred chalices from his Temple brought into your drunken party so that you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines, could drink from them. You used the sacred chalices to toast your gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone--blind, deaf, and imbecile gods. But you treat with contempt the living God who holds your entire life from birth to death in his hand.

24. ആകയാല് അവന് ആ കൈപ്പത്തി അയച്ചു ഈ എഴുത്തു എഴുതിച്ചു.

24. 'God sent the hand that wrote on the wall,

25. എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്ന എഴുത്തോമെനേ, മെനേ, തെക്കേല്, ഊഫര്സീന് .

25. and this is what is written: MENE, TEQEL, and PERES.

26. കാര്യത്തിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥമാവിതുമെനേ എന്നുവെച്ചാല്ദൈവം നിന്റെ രാജത്വം എണ്ണി, അതിന്നു അന്തം വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

26. This is what the words mean: 'Mene: God has numbered the days of your rule and they don't add up.

27. തെക്കേല് എന്നുവെച്ചാല്തുലാസില് നിന്നെ തൂക്കി, കുറവുള്ളവനായി കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

27. 'Teqel: You have been weighed on the scales and you don't weigh much.

28. പെറേസ് എന്നുവെച്ചാല്നിന്റെ രാജ്യം വിഭാഗിച്ചു മേദ്യര്ക്കും പാര്സികള്ക്കും കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

28. 'Peres: Your kingdom has been divided up and handed over to the Medes and Persians.'

29. അപ്പോള് ബേല്ശസ്സരിന്റെ കല്പനയാല് അവര് ദാനീയേലിനെ ധൂമ്രവസ്ത്രവും കഴുത്തില് പൊന്മാലയും ധരിപ്പിച്ചു; അവന് രാജ്യത്തിലെ മൂന്നാമനായി വാഴും എന്നു അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കി.

29. Belshazzar did what he had promised. He robed Daniel in purple, draped the great gold chain around his neck, and promoted him to third-in-charge in the kingdom.

30. ആ രാത്രിയില് തന്നെ കല്ദയരാജാവായ ബേല്ശസ്സര് കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടു.

30. That same night the Babylonian king Belshazzar was murdered.

31. മേദ്യനായ ദാര്യ്യാവേശ് അറുപത്തുരണ്ടു വയസ്സുള്ളവനായി രാജത്വം പ്രാപിച്ചു.

31. He was sixty-two years old. Darius the Mede succeeded him as king.
