1. അനന്തരം ജനം യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടം തോന്നുമാറു പിറുപിറുത്തു; യഹോവ കേട്ടു അവന്റെ കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചു; യഹോവയുടെ തീ അവരുടെ ഇടയില് കത്തി പാളയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റങ്ങളിലുള്ളവരെ ദഹിപ്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

1. AND THE people grumbled and deplored their hardships, which was evil in the ears of the Lord, and when the Lord heard it, His anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burned among them and devoured those in the outlying parts of the camp.

2. ജനം മോശെയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചു; മോശെ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുഅപ്പോള് തീ കെട്ടുപോയി.

2. The people cried to Moses, and when Moses prayed to the Lord, the fire subsided.

3. യഹോവയുടെ തീ അവരുടെ ഇടയില് കത്തുകയാല് ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു തബേരാ എന്നു പേരായി.

3. He called the name of the place Taberah [burning], because the fire of the Lord burned among them.

4. പിന്നെ അവരുടെ ഇടയിലുള്ള സമ്മിശ്രജാതി ദുരാഗ്രഹികളായി, യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളും വീണ്ടും കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടുഞങ്ങള്ക്കു തിന്മാന് ഇറച്ചി ആര് തരും?

4. And the mixed multitude among them [the rabble who followed Israel from Egypt] began to lust greatly [for familiar and dainty food], and the Israelites wept again and said, Who will give us meat to eat?

5. ഞങ്ങള് മിസ്രയീമില് വെച്ചു വിലകൂടാതെ തിന്നിട്ടുള്ള മത്സ്യം, വെള്ളരിക്കാ, മത്തെങ്ങാ, ഉള്ളി, ചുവന്നുള്ളി, ചിറ്റുള്ളി എന്നിവ ഞങ്ങള് ഔര്ക്കുംന്നു.

5. We remember the fish we ate freely in Egypt and without cost, the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic.

6. ഇപ്പോഴോ ഞങ്ങളുടെ പ്രാണന് പൊരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; ഈ മന്നാ അല്ലാതെ ഒന്നും കാണ്മാനില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. But now our soul (our strength) is dried up; there is nothing at all [in the way of food] to be seen but this manna.

7. മന്നയോ കൊത്തമ്പാലരിപോലെയും അതിന്റെ നിറം ഗുല്ഗുലുവിന്റേതുപോലെയും ആയിരുന്നു.

7. The manna was like coriander seed and its appearance was like that of bdellium [perhaps a precious stone].

8. ജനം നടന്നു പെറുക്കി തിരികല്ലില് പൊടിച്ചിട്ടോ ഉരലില് ഇടിച്ചിട്ടോ കലത്തില് പുഴുങ്ങി അപ്പം ഉണ്ടാക്കും. അതിന്റെ രുചി എണ്ണചേര്ത്തുണ്ടാക്കിയ ദോശപോലെ ആയിരുന്നു.

8. The people went about and gathered it, and ground it in mills or beat it in mortars, and boiled it in pots, and made cakes of it; and it tasted like cakes baked with fresh oil.

9. രാത്രി പാളയത്തില് മഞ്ഞു പൊഴിയുമ്പോള് മന്നയും പൊഴിയും.

9. And when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell with it.

10. ജനം കുടുംബംകുടുംബമായി ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ കൂടാരവാതില്ക്കല്വെച്ചു കരയുന്നതു മോശെ കേട്ടു; യഹോവയുടെ കോപം ഏറ്റവും ജ്വലിച്ചു; മോശെക്കും അനിഷ്ടമായി.

10. And Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, every man at the door of his tent; and the anger of the Lord blazed hotly, and in the eyes of Moses it was evil.

11. അപ്പോള് മോശെ യഹോവയോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനീ അടിയനെ വലെച്ചതു എന്തു? നിനക്കു എന്നോടു കൃപ തോന്നാതെ ഈ സര്വ്വജനത്തിന്റെയും ഭാരം എന്റെമേല് വെച്ചതെന്തു?

11. And Moses said to the Lord, Why have You dealt ill with Your servants? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You lay the burden of all this people on me?

12. മുലകുടിക്കുന്ന കുഞ്ഞിനെ ഒരു ധാത്രി എടുക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഞാന് അവരെ നീ അവരുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു സത്യം ചെയ്ത ദേശത്തേക്കു എന്റെ മാറത്തെടുത്തുകൊണ്ടു പോകേണമെന്നു എന്നോടു കല്പിപ്പാന് ഈ ജനത്തെ ഒക്കെയും ഞാന് ഗര്ഭംധരിച്ചുവോ? ഞാന് അവരെ പ്രസവിച്ചുവോ?

12. Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them forth, that You should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nursing father carries the sucking child, to the land which You swore to their fathers [to give them]?

13. ഈ ജനത്തിന്നു ഒക്കെയും കൊടുപ്പാന് എനിക്കു എവിടെനിന്നു ഇറച്ചി കിട്ടും? അവര് ഇതാഞങ്ങള്ക്കു തിന്മാന് ഇറച്ചി തരിക എന്നു എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞു കരയുന്നു.

13. Where should I get meat to give to all these people? For they weep before me and say, Give us meat, that we may eat.

14. ഏകനായി ഈ സര്വ്വജനത്തെയും വഹിപ്പാന് എന്നെക്കൊണ്ടു കഴിയുന്നതല്ല; അതു എനിക്കു അതിഭാരം ആകുന്നു.

14. I am not able to carry all these people alone, because the burden is too heavy for me.

15. ഇങ്ങനെ എന്നോടു ചെയ്യുന്ന പക്ഷം ദയവിചാരിച്ചു എന്നെ കൊന്നുകളയേണമേ. എന്റെ അരിഷ്ടത ഞാന് കാണരുതേ.

15. And if this is the way You deal with me, kill me, I pray You, at once, and be granting me a favor and let me not see my wretchedness [in the failure of all my efforts].

16. അപ്പോള് യഹോവ മോശെയോടു കല്പിച്ചതുയിസ്രായേല്മൂപ്പന്മാരില്വെച്ചു ജനത്തിന്നു പ്രമാണികളും മേല്വിചാരകന്മാരും എന്നു നീ അറിയുന്ന എഴുപതു പുരുഷന്മാരെ സമാഗമനക്കുടാരത്തിന്നരികെ നിന്നോടു കൂടെ നില്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു വരിക.

16. And the Lord said to Moses, Gather for Me seventy men of the elders of Israel whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; and bring them to the Tent of Meeting and let them stand there with you.

17. അവിടെ ഞാന് ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു നിന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്യും; ഞാന് നിന്റെമേലുള്ള ആത്മാവില് കുറെ എടുത്തു അവരുടെ മേല് പകരും. നീ ഏകനായി വഹിക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവര് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ജനത്തിന്റെ ഭാരം വഹിക്കും.

17. And I will come down and talk with you there; and I will take of the Spirit which is upon you and will put It upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you may not have to bear it yourself alone.

18. എന്നാല് ജനത്തോടു നീ പറയേണ്ടതുനാളത്തേക്കു നിങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ ശുദ്ധീകരിപ്പിന് ; എന്നാല് നിങ്ങള് ഇറച്ചി തിന്നും; ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു തിന്മാന് ഇറച്ചി ആര് തരും? മിസ്രയീമില് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു നന്നായിരുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് പറഞ്ഞു യഹോവ കേള്ക്കെ കരഞ്ഞുവല്ലോ; ആകയാല് യഹോവ നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഇറച്ചി തരികയും നിങ്ങള് തിന്നുകയും ചെയ്യും.

18. And say to the people, Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat; for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord, saying, Who will give us meat to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt. Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat.

19. ഒരു ദിവസമല്ല, രണ്ടു ദിവസമല്ല, അഞ്ചു ദിവസമല്ല, പത്തു ദിവസമല്ല, ഇരുപതു ദിവസവുമല്ല, ഒരു മാസം മുഴുവനും തന്നേ;

19. You shall not eat one day, or two, or five, or ten, or twenty days,

20. അതു നിങ്ങളുടെ മൂക്കില്കൂടി പുറപ്പെട്ടു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഔക്കാനം വരുവോളം നിങ്ങള് തിന്നും; നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് ഉള്ള യഹോവയെ നിങ്ങള് നിരസിക്കയുംഞങ്ങള് മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു എന്തിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ കരകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

20. But a whole month--until [you are satiated and vomit it up violently and] it comes out at your nostrils and is disgusting to you--because you have rejected and despised the Lord Who is among you, and have wept before Him, saying, Why did we come out of Egypt? [Ps. 106:13-15.]

21. അപ്പോള് മോശെഎന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ജനം ആറുലക്ഷം കാലാള് ഉണ്ടു; ഒരു മാസം മുഴുവന് തിന്മാന് ഞാന് അവര്ക്കും ഇറച്ചി കൊടുക്കുമെന്നു നീ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.

21. But Moses said, The people among whom I am are 600,000 footmen [besides all the women and children], and You have said, I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month!

22. അവര്ക്കും മതിയാകുംവണ്ണം ആടുകളെയും മാടുകളെയും അവര്ക്കുംവേണ്ടി അറുക്കുമോ? അവര്ക്കും മതിയാകുംവണ്ണം സമുദ്രത്തിലെ മത്സ്യത്തെ ഒക്കെയും അവര്ക്കും വേണ്ടി പിടിച്ചുകൂട്ടുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

22. Shall flocks and herds be killed to suffice them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be collected to satisfy them?

23. യഹോവ മോശെയോടുയഹോവയുടെ കൈ കുറുതായിപ്പോയോ? എന്റെ വചനം നിവൃത്തിയാകുമോ ഇല്ലയോ എന്നു നീ ഇപ്പോള് കാണും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

23. The Lord said to Moses, Has the Lord's hand (His ability and power) become short (thwarted and inadequate)? You shall see now whether My word shall come to pass for you or not. [Isa. 50:2.]

24. അങ്ങനെ മോശെ ചെന്നു യഹോവയുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ ജനത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞു, ജനത്തിന്റെ മൂപ്പന്മാരില് എഴുപതു പുരുഷന്മാരെ കൂട്ടി കൂടാരത്തിന്റെ ചുറ്റിലും നിറുത്തി.

24. So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord, and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and set them round about the Tent.

25. എന്നാറെ യഹോവ ഒരു മേഘത്തില് ഇറങ്ങി അവനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു, അവന്മേലുള്ള ആത്മാവില് കുറെ എടുത്തു മൂപ്പന്മാരായ ആ എഴുപതു പുരുഷന്മാര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തു; ആത്മാവു അവരുടെ മേല് ആവസിച്ചപ്പോള് അവര് പ്രവചിച്ചു; പിന്നെ അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തില്ലതാനും.

25. And the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him and put It upon the seventy elders; and when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied [sounding forth the praises of God and declaring His will]. Then they did so no more. [Num. 11:29.]

26. എന്നാല് ആ പുരഷന്മാരില് രണ്ടു പേര് പാളയത്തില് തന്നേ താമസിച്ചിരുന്നു; ഒരുത്തന്നു എല്ദാദ് എന്നും മറ്റവന്നു മേദാദ് എന്നും പേര്. ആത്മാവു അവരുടെമേലും ആവസിച്ചു; അവരും പേരെഴുതിയവരില് ഉള്ളവര് ആയിരുന്നു എങ്കിലും കൂടാരത്തിലേക്കു ചെന്നിരുന്നില്ല; അവര് പാളയത്തില് വെച്ചു പ്രവചിച്ചു.

26. But there remained two men in the camp named Eldad and Medad. The Spirit rested upon them, and they were of those who were selected and listed, yet they did not go out to the Tent [as told to do], but they prophesied in the camp.

27. അപ്പോള് ഒരു ബാല്യക്കാരന് മോശെയുടെ അടുക്കല് ഔടിച്ചെന്നുഎല്ദാദും മേദാദും പാളയത്തില്വെച്ചു പ്രവചിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അറിയിച്ചു.

27. And a young man ran to Moses and said, Eldad and Medad are prophesying [sounding forth the praises of God and declaring His will] in the camp.

28. എന്നാറെ നൂന്റെ മകനായി ബാല്യംമുതല് മോശെയുടെ ശുശ്രൂഷക്കാരനായിരുന്ന യോശുവഎന്റെ യജമാനനായ മോശെയേ, അവരെ വിരോധിക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

28. Joshua son of Nun, the minister of Moses, one of his chosen men, said, My lord Moses, forbid them!

29. മോശെ അവനോടുഎന്നെ വിചാരിച്ചു നീ അസൂയപ്പെടുന്നുവോ? യഹോവയുടെ ജനം ഒക്കെയും പ്രവാചകന്മാരാകയും യഹോവ തന്റെ ആത്മാവിനെ അവരുടെമേല് പകരുകയും ചെയ്തെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
1 കൊരിന്ത്യർ 14:5

29. But Moses said to him, Are you envious or jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord's people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them! [Luke 9:49, 50.]

30. പിന്നെ മോശെയും യിസ്രായേല്മൂപ്പന്മാരും പാളയത്തില് വന്നു ചേര്ന്നു.

30. And Moses went back into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.

31. അനന്തരം യഹോവ അയച്ച ഒരു കാറ്റു ഊതി കടലില്നിന്നു കാടയെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു പാളയത്തിന്റെ സമീപത്തു ഒരു ദിവസത്തെ വഴി ഇങ്ങോട്ടും ഒരു ദിവസത്തെ വഴി അങ്ങോട്ടും ഇങ്ങനെ പാളയത്തിന്റെ ചുറ്റിലും നിലത്തോടു ഏകദേശം രണ്ടു മുഴം അടുത്തു പറന്നുനിലക്കുമാറാക്കി.

31. And there went forth a wind from the Lord and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall [so they flew low] beside the camp, about a day's journey on this side and on the other side, all around the camp, about two cubits above the ground.

32. ജനം എഴുന്നേറ്റു അന്നു പകല് മുഴുവനും രാത്രി മുഴുവനും പിറ്റെന്നാള് മുഴുവനും കാടയെ പിടിച്ചു കൂട്ടി; നന്നാ കുറെച്ചു പിടിച്ചവന് പത്തു പറ പിടിച്ചുകൂട്ടി; അവര് അവയെ പാളയത്തിന്റെ ചുറ്റിലും ചിക്കി.

32. And the people rose all that day and all night and all the next day and caught and gathered the quails. He who gathered least gathered ten homers; and they spread them out for themselves round about the camp [to cure them by drying].

33. എന്നാല് ഇറച്ചി അവരുടെ പല്ലിന്നിടയില് ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള് അതു ചവെച്ചിറക്കും മുമ്പെ തന്നേ യഹോവയുടെ കോപം ജനത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ജ്വലിച്ചു, യഹോവ ജനത്തെ ഒരു മഹാബാധകൊണ്ടു സംഹരിച്ചു.

33. While the meat was yet between their teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord smote them with a very great plague.

34. ദുരാഗ്രഹികളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തെ അവിടെ കുഴിച്ചിട്ടതുകൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു കിബ്രോത്ത്-ഹത്താവ എന്നു പേരായി.

34. That place was called Kibroth-hattaavah [the graves of sensuous desire], because there they buried the people who lusted, whose physical appetite caused them to sin. [I Cor. 10:1-13.]

35. കിബ്രോത്ത്-ഹത്താവ വിട്ടു ജനം ഹസേരോത്തിലേക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ചെന്നു ഹസേരോത്തില് പാര്ത്തു.

35. The Israelites journeyed from Kibroth-hattaavah to Hazeroth, where they remained.
