1. ഹെരോദാരാജാവിന്റെ കാലത്തു യേശു യെഹൂദ്യയിലെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് ജനിച്ചശേഷം, കിഴക്കുനിന്നു വിദ്വാന്മാര് യെരൂശലേമില് എത്തി.

1. Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2. യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ രാജാവായി പിറന്നവന് എവിടെ? ഞങ്ങള് അവന്റെ നക്ഷത്രം കിഴക്കു കണ്ടു അവനെ നമസ്കരിപ്പാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? We have seen his star in the east and are come to worship him.

3. ഹെരോദാരാജാവു അതു കേട്ടിട്ടു അവനും യെരൂശലേം ഒക്കെയും ഭ്രമിച്ചു,

3. When Herod the king had heard [these things], he was troubled and all Jerusalem with him.

4. ജനത്തിന്റെ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും ശാസ്ത്രിമാരെയും എല്ലാം കൂട്ടിവരുത്തിക്രിസ്തു എവിടെ ആകുന്നു ജനിക്കുന്നതു എന്നു അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

4. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he asked them where the Christ should be born.

5. അവര് അവനോടുയെഹൂദ്യയിലെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് തന്നേ

5. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea, for thus it is written by the prophet,

6. “യെഹൂദ്യദേശത്തിലെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമേ, നീ യെഹൂദ്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരില് ഒട്ടും ചെറുതല്ല; എന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിനെ മേയ്പാനുള്ള തലവന് നിന്നില് നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവരും” എന്നിങ്ങനെ പ്രവാചകന് മുഖാന്തരം എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. And thou Bethlehem, [in] the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda, for out of thee shall come a Leader that shall shepherd my people Israel.

7. എന്നാറെ ഹെരോദാവു വിദ്വാന്മാരെ രഹസ്യമായി വിളിച്ചു, നക്ഷത്രം വെളിവായ സമയം അവരോടു സൂക്ഷ്മമായി ചോദിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു.

7. Then Herod, calling the wise men unto him secretly, understood of them [with diligence] the time of the appearing of the star;

8. അവരെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമിലേക്കു അയച്ചുനിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു ശിശുവിനെക്കുറിച്ചു സൂക്ഷ്മമായി അന്വേഷിപ്പിന് ; കണ്ടെത്തിയാല് ഞാനും ചെന്നു അവനെ നമസ്ക്കുരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു, വന്നു എന്നെ അറിയിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. and sending them to Bethlehem, he said, Go there and search [diligently] for the young child; and when ye have found [him], bring me word again that I may come and worship him [also].

9. രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞതു കേട്ടു അവര് പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവര് കിഴക്കു കണ്ട നക്ഷത്രം ശിശു ഇരിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു മീതെ വന്നു നിലക്കുവോളം അവര്ക്കുംമുമ്പായി പൊയ്ക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

9. When they had heard the king, they departed; and, behold, the star, which they had seen in the east, went before them until it arrived and stood over where the young child was.

10. നക്ഷത്രം കണ്ടതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് അത്യന്തം സന്തോഷിച്ചു

10. Seeing the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

11. ആ വീട്ടില് ചെന്നു, ശിശുവിനെ അമ്മയായ മറിയയോടുകൂടെ കണ്ടു, വീണു അവനെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു; നിക്ഷേപപാത്രങ്ങളെ തുറന്നു അവന്നു പൊന്നും കുന്തുരുക്കവും മൂരും കാഴ്ചവെച്ചു.

11. And entering into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother; and falling down, they worshipped him; and opening their treasures, they offered him gifts: gold and frankincense and myrrh.

12. ഹെരോദാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിപ്പോകരുതു എന്നു സ്വപ്നത്തില് അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായിട്ടു അവര് വേറെ വഴിയായി സ്വദേശത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

12. And being warned by divine revelation in dreams that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

13. അവര് പോയശേഷം കര്ത്താവിന്റെ ദൂതന് യോസേഫിന്നു സ്വപ്നത്തില് പ്രത്യക്ഷനായിനീ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ശിശുവിനെയും അമ്മയെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു മിസ്രയീമിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി, ഞാന് നിന്നോടു പറയുംവരെ അവിടെ പാര്ക്കുംക. ഹെരോദാവു ശിശുവിനെ നശിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവനെ അന്വേഷിപ്പാന് ഭാവിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in dreams, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother and flee into Egypt and remain there until I bring thee word, for Herod will seek the young child to kill him.

14. അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു ശിശുവിനെയും അമ്മയെയും രാത്രിയില് തന്നേ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടു മിസ്രയീമിലേക്കു പോയി.

14. And awaking, he took the young child and his mother by night and departed into Egypt

15. ഹെരോദാവിന്റെ മരണത്തോളം അവന് അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു“മിസ്രയീമില് നിന്നു ഞാന് എന്റെ മകനെ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തി” എന്നു കര്ത്താവു പ്രവാചകന് മുഖാന്തരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു നിവൃത്തിയാകുവാന് സംഗതിവന്നു.

15. and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

16. വിദ്വാന്മാര് തന്നെ കളിയാക്കി എന്നു ഹെരോദാവു കണ്ടു വളരെ കോപിച്ചു, വിദ്വാന്മാരോടു ചോദിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ കാലത്തിന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം രണ്ടു വയസ്സും താഴെയുമുള്ള ആണ്കുട്ടികളെ ഒക്കെയും ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമിലും അതിന്റെ എല്ലാ അതിരുകളിലും ആളയച്ചു കൊല്ലിച്ചു.

16. Then Herod, seeing that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth and sent forth and killed all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had understood of the wise men.

17. “റാമയില് ഒരു ശബ്ദം കേട്ടു, കരച്ചിലും വലിയ നിലവിളിയും തന്നേ; റാഹേല് മക്കളെച്ചൊല്ലി കരഞ്ഞു; അവര് ഇല്ലായ്കയാല് ആശ്വാസം കൈക്കൊള്വാന് മനസ്സില്ലാതിരുന്നു” എന്നു യിരെമ്യാപ്രവാചകന് മുഖാന്തരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു അന്നു നിവൃത്തിയായി.

17. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by the Lord through Jeremiah the prophet, saying,

18. എന്നാല് ഹെരോദാവു കഴിഞ്ഞുപോയശേഷം കര്ത്താവിന്റെ ദൂതന് മിസ്രയീമില് വെച്ചു യോസേഫിന്നു സ്വപ്നത്തില് പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി

18. In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation and weeping and great mourning, Rachel [was] weeping [for] her children and would not be comforted because they perished.

19. ശിശുവിന്നു പ്രാണഹാനി വരുത്തുവാന് നോക്കിയവര് മരിച്ചുപോയതുകൊണ്ടു നീ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ശിശുവിനെയും അമ്മയേയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു യിസ്രായേല്ദേശത്തേക്കു പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. But when Herod was dead, behold, [the] angel of the Lord appeared in dreams to Joseph in Egypt,

20. അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു ശിശുവിനെയും അമ്മയെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു യിസ്രായേല്ദേശത്തു വന്നു.

20. saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother and go into the land of Israel, for they are dead who sought the death of the young child.

21. എന്നാല് യെഹൂദ്യയില് അര്ക്കെലയൊസ് തന്റെ അപ്പനായ ഹെരോദാവിന്നു പകരം വാഴുന്നു എന്നു കേട്ടതുകൊണ്ടു അവിടെ പോകുവാന് ഭയപ്പെട്ടു, സ്വപ്നത്തില് അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായിട്ടു ഗലീലപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലേക്കു മാറിപ്പോയി.

21. And he arose and took the young child and his mother and came into the land of Israel.

22. അവന് നസറായന് എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടും എന്നു പ്രവാചകന്മാര്മുഖാന്തരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു നിവൃത്തിയാവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം നസറെത്ത് എന്ന ഗ്രാമത്തില് ചെന്നു പാര്ത്തു.

22. But when he heard that Archelaus reigned in Judaea in the place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there; notwithstanding, being warned by divine revelation in dreams, he withdrew into the parts of Galilee,
