1. തീബെര്യ്യൊസ് കൈസരുടെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ പതിനഞ്ചാം ആണ്ടില് പൊന്തിയൊസ് പീലാത്തൊസ് യെഹൂദ്യനാടു വാഴുമ്പോള്, ഹെരോദാവു ഗലീലയിലും അവന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഫീലിപ്പൊസ് ഇരൂര്യ്യത്രഖോനിത്തിദേശങ്ങളിലും ലുസാന്യാസ് അബിലേനയിലും

1. In the fiftenthe yeare of the raygne of Tiberius the Emperoure Pontius Pylate beinge leftenaut of Iurie and Herode beinge Tetrach of Galile and his brother Philip Tetrach in Iturea and in the region of Traconites and Lysanias the Tetrach of Abyline

2. ഇടപ്രഭൂക്കന്മാരായും ഹന്നാവും കയ്യഫാവും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരായും ഇരിക്കും കാലം സെഖര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹന്നാന്നു മരുഭൂമിയില്വെച്ചു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായി.

3. അവന് യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെയുള്ള നാട്ടില് ഒക്കെയും വന്നു പാപമോചനത്തിനായുള്ള മാനസാന്തരസ്നാനം പ്രസംഗിച്ചു.

4. “മരുഭൂമിയില് വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നവന്റെ വാക്കാവിതുകര്ത്താവിന്റെ വഴി ഒരുക്കുവിന് ; അവന്റെ പാത നിരപ്പാക്കുവിന് .”

5. എല്ലാതാഴ്വരയും നികന്നുവരും; എല്ലാമലയും കുന്നും താഴും; വളഞ്ഞതു ചൊവ്വായും ദുര്ഘടമായതു നിരന്ന വഴിയായും തീരും; സകലജഡവും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ രക്ഷയെ കാണും” എന്നിങ്ങനെ യെശയ്യാപ്രവാചകന്റെ പുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതു പോലെ തന്നേ.

5. Every valley shalbe fylled and every moutayne and hyll shalbe brought lowe. And crocked thinges shalbe made streight: and the rough wayes shalbe made smoth:

6. അവനാല് സ്നാനം ഏല്പാന് വന്ന പുരുഷാരത്തോടു അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുസര്പ്പസന്തതികളേ, വരുവാനുള്ള കോപത്തെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞ് ഔടിപ്പോകുവാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതന്നതു ആര്?

6. and all flesshe shall se the saveour sent of God.

7. മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നു യോഗ്യമായ ഫലം കായിപ്പിന് . അബ്രാഹാം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പിതാവായിട്ടുണ്ടു; എന്നു ഉള്ളം കൊണ്ടു പറവാന് തുനിയരുതു; അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു ഈ കല്ലുകളില് നിന്നു മക്കളെ ഉളവാക്കുവാന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു കഴിയും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

7. Then sayde he to the people that were come to be baptysed of him: O generacion of vipers who hath taught you to flye from the wrath to come?

8. ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ ചുവട്ടിന്നു കോടാലി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ല ഫലം കായ്ക്കാത്ത വൃക്ഷം എല്ലാം വെട്ടി തീയില് ഇട്ടുകളയുന്നു.

8. Bringe forth due frutes of repentaunce and begynne not to saye in youre selves we have Abraham to oure father. For I saye vnto you: God is able of these stones to reyse vp chyldren vnto Abraham.

9. എന്നാല് ഞങ്ങള് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു പുരുഷാരം അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

9. Now also ys the axe leyd vnto the rote of the trees: so yt every tree which bringeth not forth good frute shalbe hewe doune and caste in to ye fyre.

10. അതിന്നു അവന് രണ്ടു വസ്ത്രമുള്ളവന് ഇല്ലാത്തവന്നു കൊടുക്കട്ടെ; ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങള് ഉള്ളവനും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And the people axed him sayinge: What shall we do then?

11. ചുങ്കക്കാരും സ്നാനം ഏല്പാന് വന്നുഗുരോ, ഞങ്ങള് എന്തുചെയ്യേണം എന്നു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

11. He answered and sayde vnto them: He that hath two coottes let him parte with him that hath none: and he that hath meate let him do lyke wyse.

12. നിങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചതില് അധികം ഒന്നും പിരിക്കരുതു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Then came ther Publicans to be baptised and sayde vnto him: Master what shall we do?

13. പടജ്ജനവും അവനോടുഞങ്ങള് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുആരെയും ബലാല്ക്കാരം ചെയ്യാതെയും ചതിയായി ഒന്നും വാങ്ങാതെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ശമ്പളം മതി എന്നു വെപ്പിന് എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. And he sayde vnto the: requyre no more then that which ys appoynted vnto you.

14. ജനം കാത്തു നിന്നു; അവന് ക്രിസ്തുവോ എന്നു എല്ലാവരുംഹൃദയത്തില് യോഹന്നാനെക്കുറിച്ചു വിചാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

14. The soudyoures lyke wyse demaunded of hym sayinge: and what shall we do? And he sayde to them: Do violence to noo ma: nether trouble eny man wrongfully: but be content with youre wages.

15. യോഹന്നാന് എല്ലാവരോടും ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാല് എന്നിലും ബലവാനായവന് വരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ചെരിപ്പിന്റെ വാറു അഴിപ്പാന് ഞാന് യോഗ്യനല്ല; അവന് നിങ്ങളെ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവുകൊണ്ടും തീകൊണ്ടും സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കും.

16. Ihon answered and sayde to them all: I baptyse you wt water but a stronger then I cometh after me whose shue latchet I am not worthy to vnlouse: he will baptise you with the holy goost and with fyre:

17. മറ്റു പലതും അവന് പ്രബോധിപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ടു ജനത്തോടു സുവിശേഷം അറിയിച്ചു.

17. which hath his fanne in his hond and will pourge his floore and will gader the corne into his barne: but the chaffe wyll he bourne with fyre that never shalbe quenched.

18. എന്നാല് ഇടപ്രഭുവായ ഹെരോദാവു സഹോദരന്റെ ഭാര്യ ഹെരോദ്യനിമിത്തവും ഹെരോദാവു ചെയ്ത സകലദോഷങ്ങള് നിമിത്തവും യോഹന്നാന് അവനെ ആക്ഷേപിക്കയാല്

18. And many other thinges in his exhortacion preached he vnto the people.

19. അതെല്ലാം ചെയ്തതു കൂടാതെ അവനെ തടവില് ആക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

19. Then Herode the Tetrach (when he was rebuked of him for Herodias his brother Philippes wyfe and for all the evyls which Herod had done)

20. ജനം എല്ലാം സ്നാനം ഏലക്കുകയില് യേശുവും സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കുമ്പോള് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗം തുറന്നു,

20. added this above all and leyd Iohn in preson.

21. പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു ദേഹരൂപത്തില് പ്രാവു എന്നപോലെ അവന്റെമേല് ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു. നീ എന്റെ പ്രിയ പുത്രന് ; നിന്നില് ഞാന് പ്രസാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് നിന്നു ഒരു ശബ്ദവും ഉണ്ടായി.

21. And yt fortuned as all the people receaved baptyme (and when Iesus was baptised and dyd praye) that heave was opened

22. യേശുവിന്നു താന് പ്രവൃത്തി ആരംഭിക്കുമ്പോള് ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു. അവന് യോസേഫിന്റെ മകന് എന്നു ജനം വിചാരിച്ചു;
