1. ഇതു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടു യേശു ശിഷ്യന്മാരുമായി കെദ്രോന് തോട്ടിന്നു അക്കരെക്കു പോയി. അവിടെ ഒരു തോട്ടം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അതില് അവനും ശിഷ്യന്മാരും കടന്നു.

1. When Jesus had finished praying, he left with his disciples. They crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a grove of olive trees. Jesus and his disciples went into it.

2. അവിടെ യേശു പലപ്പോഴും ശിഷ്യന്മാരോടുകൂടെ പോയിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവനെ കാണിച്ചുകൊടുത്ത യൂദയും ആ സ്ഥലം അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

2. Judas knew the place. He was going to hand Jesus over to his enemies. Jesus had often met in that place with his disciples.

3. അങ്ങനെ യൂദാ പട്ടാളത്തെയും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരും പരീശന്മാരും അയച്ച ചേവകരെയും കൂട്ടികൊണ്ടു ദീപട്ടിപന്തങ്ങളും ആയുധങ്ങളുമായി അവിടെ വന്നു.

3. So Judas came to the grove. He was guiding a group of soldiers and some officials. The chief priests and the Pharisees had sent them. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.

4. യേശു തനിക്കു നേരിടുവാനുള്ളതു എല്ലാം അറിഞ്ഞു പുറത്തുചെന്നുനിങ്ങള് ആരെ തിരയുന്നു എന്നു അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

4. Jesus knew everything that was going to happen to him. So he went out and asked them, 'Who is it that you want?'

5. നസറായനായ യേശുവിനെ എന്നു അവര് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞപ്പോള്അതു ഞാന് തന്നേ എന്നു യേശു പറഞ്ഞു; അവനെ കാണിച്ചുകൊടുക്കുന്ന യൂദയും അവരോടുകൂടെ നിന്നിരുന്നു.

5. Jesus of Nazareth,' they replied. 'I am he,' Jesus said. Judas, who was going to hand Jesus over, was standing there with them.

6. When Jesus said, 'I am he,' they moved back. Then they fell to the ground.

7. നിങ്ങള് ആരെ തിരയുന്നു എന്നു അവന് പിന്നെയും അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവര്നസറായനായ യേശുവിനെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. He asked them again, 'Who is it that you want?' They said, 'Jesus of Nazareth.'

8. ഞാന് തന്നേ എന്നു നിങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞുവല്ലോ; എന്നെ ആകുന്നു തിരയുന്നതെങ്കില് ഇവര് പോയ്ക്കൊള്ളട്ടെ എന്നു യേശു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

8. I told you I am he,' Jesus answered. 'If you are looking for me, then let these men go.'

9. നീ എനിക്കു തന്നവരില് ആരും നഷ്ടമായിപ്പോയിട്ടില്ല എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കിന്നു ഇതിനാല് നിവൃത്തിവന്നു.

9. This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken would come true. He had said, 'I have not lost anyone God has given me.'--(John 6:39)

10. ശിമോന് പത്രൊസ് തനിക്കുള്ള വാള് ഊരി മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ ദാസനെ വെട്ടി അവന്റെ വലത്തുകാതു അറുത്തു കളഞ്ഞു; ആ ദാസന്നു മല്ക്കൊസ് എന്നു പേര്.

10. Simon Peter had a sword and pulled it out. He struck the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.

11. യേശു പത്രൊസിനോടുവാള് ഉറയില് ഇടുക; പിതാവു എനിക്കു തന്ന പാനപാത്രം ഞാന് കുടിക്കേണ്ടയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Jesus commanded Peter, 'Put your sword away! Shouldn't I drink the cup of suffering the Father has given me?'

12. പട്ടാളവും സഹസ്രാധിപനും യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ ചേവകരും യേശുവിനെ പിടിച്ചുകെട്ടി

12. Then the group of soldiers, their leader and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They tied him up

13. ഒന്നാമതു ഹന്നാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവന് ആ സംവത്സരത്തെ മഹാപുരോഹിതനായ കയ്യഫാവിന്റെ അമ്മായപ്പന് ആയിരുന്നു.

13. and brought him first to Annas. He was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest at that time.

14. കയ്യഫാവോജനത്തിനുവേണ്ടി ഒരു മനുഷ്യന് മരിക്കുന്നതു നന്നു എന്നു യെഹൂദന്മാരോടു ആലോചന പറഞ്ഞവന് തന്നേ.

14. Caiaphas had advised the Jews that it would be good if one man died for the people.

15. ശിമോന് പത്രൊസും മറ്റൊരു ശിഷ്യനും യേശുവിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു; ആ ശിഷ്യന് മഹാപുരോഹിതന്നു പരിചയമുള്ളവന് ആകയാല് യേശുവിനോടുകൂടെ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ നടുമുറ്റത്തു കടന്നു.

15. Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. The high priest knew the other disciple. So that disciple went with Jesus into the high priest's courtyard.

16. പത്രൊസ് വാതില്ക്കല് പുറത്തു നിലക്കുമ്പോള്, മഹാപുരോഹിതന്നു പരിചയമുള്ള മറ്റെ ശിഷ്യന് പുറത്തുവന്നു വാതില്കാവല്ക്കാരത്തിയോടു പറഞ്ഞു പത്രൊസിനെ അകത്തു കയറ്റി.

16. But Peter had to wait outside by the door. The other disciple came back. He was the one the high priest knew. He spoke to the woman who was on duty there. Then he brought Peter in.

17. വാതില് കാക്കുന്ന ബാല്യക്കാരത്തി പത്രൊസിനോടുനീയും ഈ മനുഷ്യന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരില് ഒരുവനോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു; അല്ല എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

17. The woman at the door spoke to Peter. 'You are not one of Jesus' disciples, are you?' she asked him. 'I am not,' he replied.

18. അന്നു കുളിര് ആകകൊണ്ടു ദാസന്മാരും ചേവകരും കനല് കൂട്ടി തീ കാഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു; പത്രൊസും അവരോടുകൂടെ തീ കാഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടുനിന്നു.

18. It was cold. The servants and officials stood around a fire. They had made it to keep warm. Peter was also standing with them. He was warming himself.

19. മഹാപുരോഹിതന് യേശുവിനോടു അവന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരെയും ഉപദേശത്തെയും കുറിച്ചു ചോദിച്ചു.

19. Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus. He asked him about his disciples and his teaching.

20. അതിന്നു യേശുഞാന് ലോകത്തോടു പരസ്യമായി സംസാരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; പള്ളിയിലും എല്ലാ യെഹൂദന്മാരും കൂടുന്ന ദൈവാലയത്തിലും ഞാന് എപ്പോഴും ഉപദേശിച്ചു;

20. I have spoken openly to the world,' Jesus replied. 'I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I didn't say anything in secret.

21. രഹസ്യമായി ഒന്നും സംസാരിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. നീ എന്നോടു ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? ഞാന് സംസാരിച്ചതു എന്തെന്നു കേട്ടവരോടു ചോദിക്ക; ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞതു അവര് അറിയുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

21. Why question me? Ask the people who heard me. They certainly know what I said.'

22. അവന് ഇങ്ങനെ പറയുമ്പോള് ചേവകരില് അരികെ നിന്ന ഒരുത്തന് മഹാപുരോഹിതനോടു ഇങ്ങനെയോ ഉത്തരം പറയുന്നതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു യേശുവിന്റെ കന്നത്തു ഒന്നടിച്ചു.

22. When Jesus said that, one of the officials nearby hit him in the face. 'Is this any way to answer the high priest?' he asked.

23. യേശു അവനോടുഞാന് ദോഷമായി സംസാരിച്ചു എങ്കില് തെളിവു കൊടുക്ക; അല്ലെങ്കില് എന്നെ തല്ലുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. 'Have I said something wrong?' Jesus replied. 'If I have, give witness to it. But if I spoke the truth, why did you hit me?'

24. ഹന്നാവു അവനെ കെട്ടപ്പെട്ടവനായി മഹാപുരോഹിതനായ കയ്യഫാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയച്ചു.

24. While Jesus was still tied up, Annas sent him to Caiaphas, the high priest.

25. ശിമോന് പത്രൊസ് തീ കാഞ്ഞുനിലക്കുമ്പോള്നീയും അവന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരില് ഒരുത്തനല്ലയോ എന്നു ചിലര് അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു; അല്ല എന്നു അവന് മറുത്തുപറഞ്ഞു.

25. Simon Peter stood there. He was warming himself. Then someone asked him, 'You aren't one of Jesus' disciples, are you?' He said, 'I am not.'

26. മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ ദാസന്മാരില് വെച്ച പത്രൊസ് കാതറുത്തവന്റെ ചാര്ച്ചക്കാരനായ ഒരുത്തന് ഞാന് നിന്നെ അവനോടുകൂടെ തോട്ടത്തില് കണ്ടില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

26. One of the high priest's servants was a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off. He said to Peter, 'Didn't I see you with Jesus in the olive grove?'

27. പത്രൊസ് പിന്നെയും മറുത്തുപറഞ്ഞു; ഉടനെ കോഴി ക്കുകി!

27. Again Peter said no. At that very moment a rooster began to crow.

28. പുലര്ച്ചെക്കു അവര് യേശുവിനെ കയ്യഫാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിന്നു ആസ്ഥാനത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി; തങ്ങള് അശുദ്ധമാകാതെ പെസഹ കഴിപ്പാന്തക്കവണ്ണം ആസ്ഥാനത്തില് കടന്നില്ല.

28. Then the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning. The Jews did not want to be made 'unclean.' They wanted to be able to eat the Passover meal. So they did not enter the palace.

29. പീലാത്തൊസ് അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് പുറത്തുവന്നുഈ മനുഷ്യന്റെ നേരെ എന്തു കുറ്റം ബോധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

29. Pilate came out to them. He asked, 'What charges are you bringing against this man?'

30. കുറ്റക്കാരന് അല്ലാഞ്ഞു എങ്കില് ഞങ്ങള് അവനെ നിന്റെ പക്കല് ഏല്പിക്കയില്ലായിരുന്നു എന്നു അവര് അവനോടു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

30. He has committed crimes,' they replied. 'If he hadn't, we would not have handed him over to you.'

31. പീലാത്തൊസ് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് അവനെ കൊണ്ടുപോയി നിങ്ങളുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണപ്രകാരം വിധിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു യെഹൂദന്മാര് അവനോടുമരണശിക്ഷെക്കുള്ള അധികാരം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

31. Pilate said, 'Take him yourselves. Judge him by your own law.' 'But we don't have the right to put anyone to death,' the Jews complained.

32. യേശു താന് മരിപ്പാനുള്ള മരണവിധം സൂചിപ്പിച്ചവാക്കിന്നു ഇതിനാല് നിവൃത്തിവന്നു.

32. This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken about how he was going to die would come true.

33. പീലാത്തൊസ് പിന്നെയും ആസ്ഥാനത്തില് ചെന്നു യേശുവിനെ വിളിച്ചുനീ യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ രാജാവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

33. Then Pilate went back inside the palace. He ordered Jesus to be brought to him. Pilate asked him, 'Are you the king of the Jews?'

34. അതിന്നു ഉത്തരമായി യേശുഇതു നീ സ്വയമായി പറയുന്നതോ മറ്റുള്ളവര് എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു നിന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

34. Is that your own idea?' Jesus asked. 'Or did others talk to you about me?'

35. പീലാത്തൊസ് അതിന്നു ഉത്തരമായിഞാന് യെഹൂദനോ? നിന്റെ ജനവും മഹാപുരോഗിതന്മാരും നിന്നെ നിന്റെ പക്കല് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ എന്തു ചെയ്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു യേശു
സെഖർയ്യാവു 13:6

35. Am I a Jew?' Pilate replied. 'It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What have you done?'

36. എന്റെ രാജ്യം ഐഹികമല്ല; എന്നു എന്റെ രാജ്യം ഐഹികം ആയിരുന്നു എങ്കില് എന്നെ യഹൂദന്മാരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കാതവണ്ണം എന്റെ ചേവകര് പോരാടുമായിരുന്നു. എന്നാല് എന്റെ രാജ്യം ഐഹികമല്ല എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

36. Jesus said, 'My kingdom is not part of this world. If it were, those who serve me would fight. They would try to keep the Jews from arresting me. My kingdom is from another place.'

37. പീലാത്തൊസ് അവനോടുഎന്നാല് നീ രാജാവു തന്നേയല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു യേശുനീ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ഞാന് രാജാവുതന്നേ; സത്യത്തിന്നു സാക്ഷിനില്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് ജനിച്ചു അതിന്നായി ലോകത്തില് വന്നുമിരിക്കുന്നു; സത്യതല്പരനായവന് എല്ലാം എന്റെ വാക്കുകേള്ക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
യെശയ്യാ 32:1

37. 'So you are a king, then!' said Pilate. Jesus answered, 'You are right to say I am a king. In fact, that's the reason I was born. I came into the world to give witness to the truth. Everyone who is on the side of truth listens to me.'

38. പീലാത്തൊസ് അവനോടുസത്യം എന്നാല് എന്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു പിന്നെയും യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് പുറത്തു ചെന്നു അവരോടുഞാന് അവനില് ഒരു കുറ്റവും കാണുന്നില്ല.

38. 'What is truth?' Pilate asked. Then Pilate went out again to the Jews. He said, 'I find no basis for any charge against him.

39. എന്നാല് പെസഹയില് ഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഒരുത്തനെ വിട്ടുതരിക പതിവുണ്ടല്ലോ; യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ രാജാവിനെ വിട്ടുതരുന്നതു സമ്മതമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവര് പിന്നെയും

39. But it is your practice for me to set one prisoner free for you at Passover time. Do you want me to set 'the king of the Jews' free?'

40. ഇവനെ വേണ്ടാ; ബറബ്ബാസിനെ മതി എന്നു നിലവിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു; ബറബ്ബാസോ കവര്ച്ചക്കാരന് ആയിരുന്നു.

40. They shouted back, 'No! Not him! Give us Barabbas!' Barabbas had taken part in an armed struggle against the country's rulers.
