1. സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ന്യായപ്രമാണം അറിയുന്നവരോടല്ലോ ഞാന് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതുമനുഷ്യന് ജീവനോടിരിക്കും കാലത്തൊക്കെയും ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്നു അവന്റെമേല് അധികാരമുണ്ടു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ?

1. My friends, you surely understand enough about law to know that laws only have power over people who are alive.

2. ഭര്ത്താവുള്ള സ്ത്രീ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഭര്ത്താവിനോടു ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താല് ബന്ധിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ഭര്ത്താവു മരിച്ചാല് അവള് ഭര്ത്തൃന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില്നിന്നു ഒഴിവുള്ളവളായി.

2. For example, the Law says that a man's wife must remain his wife as long as he lives. But once her husband is dead, she is free

3. to marry someone else. However, if she goes off with another man while her husband is still alive, she is said to be unfaithful.

4. അതുകൊണ്ടു സഹോദരന്മാരേ, നാം ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഫലം കായക്കുമാറു മരിച്ചിട്ടു ഉയിര്ത്തെഴുന്നേറ്റവനായ വേറോരുവന്നു ആകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങളും ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ശരീരം മുഖാന്തരം ന്യായപ്രമാണസംബന്ധമായി മരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

4. That is how it is with you, my friends. You are now part of the body of Christ and are dead to the power of the Law. You are free to belong to Christ, who was raised to life so that we could serve God.

5. നാം ജഡത്തിലായിരുന്നപ്പോള് ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താല് ഉളവായ പാപരാഗങ്ങള് മരണത്തില് ഫലം കായ്ക്കത്തക്കവണ്ണം നമ്മുടെ അവയവങ്ങളില് വ്യാപരിച്ചുപോന്നു.

5. When we thought only of ourselves, the Law made us have sinful desires. It made every part of our bodies into slaves who are doomed to die.

6. But the Law no longer rules over us. We are like dead people, and it cannot have any power over us. Now we can serve God in a new way by obeying his Spirit, and not in the old way by obeying the written Law.

7. ആകയാല് നാം എന്തു പറയേണ്ടു? ന്യായപ്രമാണം പാപം എന്നോ? ഒരുനാളും അരുതു. എങ്കിലും ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താല് അല്ലാതെ ഞാന് പാപത്തെ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല; മോഹിക്കരുതു എന്നു ന്യായപ്രമാണം പറയാതിരുന്നെങ്കില് ഞാന് മോഹത്തെ അറികയില്ലായിരുന്നു.

7. Does this mean that the Law is sinful? Certainly not! But if it had not been for the Law, I would not have known what sin is really like. For example, I would not have known what it means to want something that belongs to someone else, unless the Law had told me not to do that.

8. പാപമോ അവസരം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടു കല്പനയാല് എന്നില് സകലവിധ മോഹത്തെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു; ന്യായപ്രമാണം കൂടാതെ പാപം നിര്ജ്ജീവമാകുന്നു.

8. It was sin that used this command as a way of making me have all kinds of desires. But without the Law, sin is dead.

9. ഞാന് ഒരുകാലത്തു ന്യായപ്രമാണം കൂടാതെ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു; എന്നാല് കല്പന വന്നപ്പോള് പാപംവീണ്ടും ജീവിക്കയും ഞാന് മരിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

9. Before I knew about the Law, I was alive. But as soon as I heard that command, sin came to life,

10. ഇങ്ങനെ ജീവന്നായി ലഭിച്ചിരുന്ന കല്പന എനിക്കു മരണ ഹേതുവായിത്തീര്ന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് കണ്ടു. പാപം അവസരം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടു കല്പനയാല് എന്നെ ചതിക്കയും കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു.

10. and I died. The very command that was supposed to bring life to me, instead brought death.

11. ആകയാല് ന്യായപ്രമാണം വിശുദ്ധം; കല്പന വിശുദ്ധവും ന്യായവും നല്ലതും തന്നേ.

11. Sin used this command to trick me, and because of it I died.

12. എന്നാല് നന്മയായുള്ളതു എനിക്കു മരണകാരണമായിത്തീര്ന്നു എന്നോ? ഒരുനാളും അരുതു, പാപമത്രേ മരണമായിത്തീര്ന്നതു; അതു നന്മയായുള്ളതിനെക്കൊണ്ടു എനിക്കു മരണം ഉളവാക്കുന്നതിനാല് പാപം എന്നു തെളിയേണ്ടതിന്നു കല്പനയാല് അത്യന്തം പാപമായിത്തീരേണ്ടതിന്നും തന്നേ.

12. Still, the Law and its commands are holy and correct and good.

13. ന്യായപ്രമാണം ആത്മികം എന്നു നാം അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ; ഞാനോ ജഡമയന് , പാപത്തിന്നു ദാസനായി വില്ക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് തന്നേ.

13. Am I saying that something good caused my death? Certainly not! It was sin that killed me by using something good. Now we can see how terrible and evil sin really is.

14. ഞാന് പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; ഞാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നതിനെ അല്ല പകെക്കുന്നതിനെ അത്രേ ചെയ്യുന്നതു.

14. We know that the Law is spiritual. But I am merely a human, and I have been sold as a slave to sin.

15. ഞാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കാത്തതിനെ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കിലോ ന്യായപ്രമാണം നല്ലതു എന്നു ഞാന് സമ്മതിക്കുന്നു.

15. In fact, I don't understand why I act the way I do. I don't do what I know is right. I do the things I hate.

16. ആകയാല് അതിനെ പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതു ഞാനല്ല എന്നില് വസിക്കുന്ന പാപമത്രേ.

16. Although I don't do what I know is right, I agree that the Law is good.

17. എന്നില് എന്നുവെച്ചാല് എന്റെ ജഡത്തില് നന്മ വസിക്കുന്നില്ല എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; നന്മ ചെയ്വാനുള്ള താല്പര്യം എനിക്കുണ്ടു; പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതോ ഇല്ല.

17. So I am not the one doing these evil things. The sin that lives in me is what does them.

18. ഞാന് ചെയ്വാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്ന നന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ലല്ലോ; ഇച്ഛിക്കാത്ത തിന്മയത്രേ പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതു.

18. I know that my selfish desires won't let me do anything that is good. Even when I want to do right, I cannot.

19. ഞാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കാത്തതിനെ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കിലോ അതിനെ പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതു ഞാനല്ല എന്നില് വസിക്കുന്ന പാപമത്രേ.

19. Instead of doing what I know is right, I do wrong.

20. അങ്ങനെ നന്മ ചെയ്വാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്ന ഞാന് തിന്മ എന്റെ പക്കല് ഉണ്ടു എന്നൊരു പ്രമാണം കാണുന്നു.

20. And so, if I don't do what I know is right, I am no longer the one doing these evil things. The sin that lives in me is what does them.

21. ഉള്ളംകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില് രസിക്കുന്നു.

21. The Law has shown me that something in me keeps me from doing what I know is right.

22. എങ്കിലും എന്റെ ബുദ്ധിയുടെ പ്രമാണത്തോടു പോരാടുന്ന വേറൊരു പ്രമാണം ഞാന് എന്റെ അവയവങ്ങളില് കാണുന്നു; അതു എന്റെ അവയവങ്ങളിലുള്ള പാപപ്രമാണത്തിന്നു എന്നെ ബദ്ധനാക്കിക്കളയുന്നു.

22. With my whole heart I agree with the Law of God.

23. അയ്യോ, ഞാന് അരിഷ്ടമനുഷ്യന് ! ഈ മരണത്തിന്നു അധീനമായ ശരീരത്തില്നിന്നു എന്നെ ആര് വിടുവിക്കും?

23. But in every part of me I discover something fighting against my mind, and it makes me a prisoner of sin that controls everything I do.

24. നമ്മുടെ കര്ത്താവായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുമുഖാന്തരം ഞാന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു സ്തോത്രം ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഇങ്ങനെ ഞാന് തന്നേ ബുദ്ധികൊണ്ടു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പ്രമാണത്തെയും ജഡംകൊണ്ടു പാപത്തിന്റെ പ്രമാണത്തെയും സേവിക്കുന്നു.

24. What a miserable person I am. Who will rescue me from this body that is doomed to die?
