1. വിഗ്രഹാര്പ്പിതങ്ങളുടെ കാര്യ്യം പറഞ്ഞാലോ നമുക്കെല്ലാവര്ക്കും അറിവു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു നമുക്കു അറിയാം. അറിവു ചീര്പ്പിക്കുന്നു; സ്നേഹമോ ആത്മികവര്ദ്ധന വരുത്തുന്നു.

1. As touching thinges offred vnto idols, we are sure yt we all haue knowledge. Knowledge maketh a man swell: but loue edifieth.

2. താന് വല്ലതും അറിയുന്നു എന്നു ഒരുത്തന്നു തോന്നുന്നു എങ്കില് അറിയേണ്ടതുപോലെ അവന് ഇന്നുവരെ ഒന്നും അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല.

2. If any man thynke that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

3. ഒരുത്തന് ദൈവത്തെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിലോ അവനെ ദൈവം അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

3. But if any man loue God, the same is knowen of him.

4. വിഗ്രഹാര്പ്പിതങ്ങളെ തിന്നുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ചോ, ലോകത്തില് വിഗ്രഹം ഏതുമില്ല എന്നും ഏകദൈവമല്ലാതെ ദൈവമില്ല എന്നും നാം അറിയുന്നു. പല ദേവന്മാരും പല കര്ത്താക്കന്മാരും ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറയുന്നുവല്ലോ.

4. As concerning the eating of those thinges that are offered vnto idols, we are sure that an idoll is nothing in the worlde, and that there is none other God but one.

5. എന്നാല് ആകാശത്തിലോ ഭൂമിയിലോ ദേവന്മാര് എന്നു പേരുള്ളവര് ഉണ്ടെന്നുവരികിലും

5. And though there be that are called gods, whether in heauen or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lordes many:)

6. പിതാവായ ഏക ദൈവമേ നമുക്കുള്ളു; അവന് സകലത്തിന്നും കാരണഭൂതനും നാം അവന്നായി ജീവിക്കേണ്ടതും ആകുന്നു. യേശുക്രിസ്തു എന്ന ഏക കര്ത്താവും നമുക്കു ഉണ്ടു; അവന് മുഖാന്തരം സകലവും അവന് മുഖാന്തരം നാമും ആകുന്നു.

6. Yet vnto vs is there but one God, [which is] the father, of whom are all thinges, and we in him, and one Lorde Iesus Christe, by whom are al thinges, and we by him.

7. എന്നാല് എല്ലാവരിലും ഈ അറിവില്ല. ചിലര് ഇന്നുവരെ വിഗ്രഹപരിചയം ഹേതുവായി വിഗ്രഹാര്പ്പിതം എന്നുവെച്ചു തിന്നുന്നു;

7. But euery man hath not knowledge: For some hauing conscience of the idol vntill this houre, eate as a thing offred vnto idols, and so their conscience being weake, is defiled.

8. അവരുടെ മനസ്സാക്ഷി ബലഹീനമാകയാല് മലിനമായിത്തീരുന്നു. എന്നാല് ആഹാരം നമ്മെ ദൈവത്തോടു അടുപ്പിക്കുന്നില്ല; തിന്നാഞ്ഞാല് നമുക്കു നഷ്ടമില്ല; തിന്നാല് ആദായവുമില്ല.

8. But meate maketh vs not acceptable to God: For neither if we eate, haue we the more, neither if we eate not, haue we the lesse.

9. എന്നാല് നിങ്ങളുടെ ഈ സ്വതന്ത്ര്യം ബലഹീനന്മാര്ക്കും യാതൊരു വിധത്തിലും തടങ്ങല് ആയി വരാതിരിപ്പാന് നോക്കുവിന് .

9. But take heede lest by any meanes this libertie of yours be an occasion of falling, to them that are weake.

10. അറിവുള്ളവനായ നീ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില് ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നിരിക്കുന്നതു ഒരുത്തന് കണ്ടാല്, ബലഹീനനെങ്കില് അവന്റെ മനസ്സാക്ഷി വിഗ്രഹാര്പ്പിതങ്ങളെ തിന്നുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ഉറെക്കയില്ലയോ?

10. For if any man see thee which hast knowledge, sit at meate in the idols temple: shal not the conscience of him which is weake, be boldened to eate those thinges which are offred to idols,

11. ആര്ക്കുംവേണ്ടി ക്രിസ്തു മരിച്ചുവോ, ആ ബലഹീനസഹോദരന് ഇങ്ങനെ നിന്റെ അറിവിനാല് നശിച്ചു പോകുന്നു.

11. And through thy knowledge shal the weake brother perishe, for whom Christe dyed?

12. ഇങ്ങനെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ നേരെ പാപം ചെയ്തു, അവരുടെ ബലഹീന മനസ്സാക്ഷിയെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോള് നിങ്ങള് ക്രിസ്തുവിനോടു പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

12. When ye sinne so against the brethren, and wounde their weake conscience, ye sinne against Christe.

13. ആകയാല് ആഹാരം എന്റെ സഹോദരന്നു ഇടര്ച്ചയായിത്തീരും എങ്കില് എന്റെ സഹോദരന്നു ഇടര്ച്ച വരുത്താതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് ഒരുനാളും മാംസം തിന്നുകയില്ല.

13. Wherefore, if meate offend my brother, I wyll eate no fleshe whyle the worlde standeth, lest I shoulde offende my brother.
