1. ഒരുവന് അദ്ധ്യക്ഷസ്ഥാനം കാംക്ഷിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് നല്ലവേല ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു. എന്നുള്ളതു വിശ്വാസയോഗ്യം ആകുന്നു.

1. This is a true saying: If a man covet the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

2. എന്നാല് അദ്ധ്യക്ഷന് നിരപവാദ്യനായി ഏകഭാര്യയുടെ ഭര്ത്താവും നിര്മ്മദനും ജിതേന്ദ്രിയനും സുശീലനും അതിഥിപ്രിയനും ഉപദേശിപ്പാന് സമര്ത്ഥനും ആയിരിക്കേണം.

2. Yea and a bishop must be faultless,(blameless) the husband of one wife, sober, of honest behavior,(discreet) honestly apparelled,(mannerly) harborous, apt to teach,

3. മദ്യപ്രിയനും തല്ലുകാരനും അരുതു;

3. not drunken,(not given to much wime) no fighter, not given to filthy lucre: but gentle, abhorring fighting,(strife) abhorring covetousness,

4. ശാന്തനും കലഹിക്കാത്തവനും ദ്രവ്യാഗ്രഹമില്ലാത്തവനും സ്വന്തകുടുംബത്തെ നന്നായി ഭരിക്കുന്നവനും മക്കളെ പൂര്ണ്ണഗൌരവത്തോടെ അനുസരണത്തില് പാലിക്കുന്നവനും ആയിരിക്കേണം.

4. and one that ruleth his own house honestly, having children under obedience, with all honesty.

5. സ്വന്തകുടുംബത്തെ ഭരിപ്പാന് അറിയാത്തവന് ദൈവസഭയെ എങ്ങനെ പരിപാലിക്കും?

5. For if a man cannot rule his own house, how shall he care for the congregation of God.

6. നിഗളിച്ചിട്ടു പിശാചിന്നു വന്ന ശിക്ഷാവിധിയില് അകപ്പെടാതിരിപ്പാന് പുതിയ ശിഷ്യനും അരുതു.

6. He may not be a young man,(scholar) lest he swell(be puft up) and fall into the judgment of the evil speaker.

7. നിന്ദയിലും പിശാചിന്റെ കണിയിലും കടുങ്ങാതിരിപ്പാന് പുറമെയുള്ളവരോടു നല്ല സാക്ഷ്യം പ്രാപിച്ചവനും ആയിരിക്കേണം.

7. He must also be well reported of among(have a good report of) them which are without forth, lest he fall into rebuke, and into the snare of the evil speaker.

8. അവ്വണ്ണം ശുശ്രൂഷകന്മാര് ഘനശാലികളായിരിക്കേണം; ഇരുവാക്കുകാരും മദ്യപന്മാരും ദുര്ല്ലാഭമോഹികളും അരുതു.

8. Likewise must the deacons(ministers) be honest, not double tongued, not given unto much drinking,(wine) neither unto filthy lucre:

9. അവര് വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ മര്മ്മം ശുദ്ധമനസ്സാക്ഷിയില് വെച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നവര് ആയിരിക്കേണം.

9. but having the mystery of the faith in pure conscience.

10. അവരെ ആദ്യം പരീക്ഷിക്കേണം; അനിന്ദ്യരായി കണ്ടാല് അവര് ശുശ്രൂഷ ഏല്കട്ടെ.

10. And let them first be proved, and then let them minister, if they be found faultless.(be blameless)

11. അവ്വണം സ്ത്രീകളും ഘനശാലികളായി ഏഷണി പറയാതെ നിര്മ്മദമാരും എല്ലാറ്റിലും വിശ്വസ്തമാരുമായിരിക്കേണം.

11. Even so must their wives be honest, not evil speakers: but sober, and faithful in all things.

12. ശുശ്രൂഷകന്മാര് ഏകഭാര്യയുള്ള ഭര്ത്താക്കന്മാരും മക്കളെയും സ്വന്തകുടുംബങ്ങളെയും നന്നായി ഭരിക്കുന്നവരും ആയിരിക്കേണം.

12. Let the deacons(ministers) be the husbands of one wife(every one the husband of one wife) and such as rule their children well, and their own households.

13. നന്നായി ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ളവര് തങ്ങള്ക്കു നല്ല നിലയും ക്രിസ്തുയേശുവിങ്കലുള്ള വിശ്വാസത്തില് വളരെ പ്രാഗത്ഭ്യവും സമ്പാദിക്കുന്നു.

13. For they that minister well, get themselves good degree, and great liberty in the faith, which is in Christ Jesu.

14. ഞാന് വേഗത്തില് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരും എന്നു ആശിക്കുന്നു;

14. These things write I unto thee, trusting to come shortly unto thee.

15. താമസിച്ചുപോയാലോ സത്യത്തിന്റെ തൂണും അടിസ്ഥാനവുമായി ജീവനുള്ള ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സഭയാകുന്ന ദൈവാലയത്തില് നടക്കേണ്ടതു എങ്ങനെയെന്നു നീ അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇതു എഴുതുന്നു.

15. And if I come not,(but and if I tarry long) that (then) thou mayst yet have knowledge how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the congregation of the living God, the pillar and ground of truth.

16. അവന് ജഡത്തില് വെളിപ്പെട്ടു; ആത്മാവില് നീതീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു; ദൂതന്മാര്ക്കും പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി; ജാതികളുടെ ഇടയില് പ്രസംഗിക്കപ്പെട്ടു ലോകത്തില് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെട്ടു; തേജസ്സില് എടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു എന്നിങ്ങനെ ദൈവഭക്തിയുടെ മര്മ്മം സമ്മതമാംവണ്ണം വലിയതാകുന്നു.

16. And without nay great is that mystery of godliness. God was shewed in the flesh, was justified in the spirit, was seen of angels, was preached unto the gentiles, was believed on in earth and received up in glory.
