1. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് പിന്നെയും യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു; യഹോവ അവരെ നാല്പതു സംവത്സരത്തോളം ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു.

1. And then the People of Israel were back at it again, doing what was evil in GOD's sight. GOD put them under the domination of the Philistines for forty years.

2. എന്നാല് ദാന് ഗോത്രത്തില് ഉള്ളവനായി സോരാഥ്യനായ ഒരു പുരുഷന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്നു മാനോഹ എന്നു പേര്; അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ മച്ചിയായിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു പ്രസവിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല.

2. At that time there was a man named Manoah from Zorah from the tribe of Dan. His wife was barren and childless.

3. ആ സ്ത്രീക്കു യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനീ മച്ചിയല്ലോ, പ്രസവിച്ചിട്ടുമില്ല; എങ്കിലും നീ ഗര്ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും.

3. The angel of God appeared to her and told her, 'I know that you are barren and childless, but you're going to become pregnant and bear a son.

4. ആകയാല് നീ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു കൊള്ക, വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയുമരുതു.

4. But take much care: Drink no wine or beer; eat nothing ritually unclean.

5. നീ ഗര്ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; അവന്റെ തലയില് ക്ഷൌരക്കത്തി തൊടുവിക്കരുതു; ബാലന് ഗര്ഭംമുതല് ദൈവത്തിന്നു നാസീരായിരിക്കും; അവന് യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു രക്ഷിപ്പാന് തുടങ്ങും.

5. You are, in fact, pregnant right now, carrying a son. No razor will touch his head--the boy will be God's Nazirite from the moment of his birth. He will launch the deliverance from Philistine oppression.'

6. സ്ത്രീ ചെന്നു ഭര്ത്താവിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഒരു ദൈവപുരുഷന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; അവന്റെ ആകൃതി ഒരു ദൈവദൂതന്റെ ആകൃതിപോലെ അതിഭയങ്കരം ആയിരുന്നു; അവന് എവിടെനിന്നെന്നു ഞാന് അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചില്ല; തന്റെ പേര് അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞതും ഇല്ല.

6. The woman went to her husband and said, 'A man of God came to me. He looked like the angel of God--terror laced with glory! I didn't ask him where he was from and he didn't tell me his name,

7. അവന് എന്നോടു നീ ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; ആകയാല് നീ വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയും അരുതു; ബാലന് ഗര്ഭംമുതല് ജീവപര്യന്തം ദൈവത്തിന്നു നാസീരായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. but he told me, 'You're pregnant. You're going to give birth to a son. Don't drink any wine or beer and eat nothing ritually unclean. The boy will be God's Nazirite from the moment of birth to the day of his death.''

8. മാനോഹ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുകര്ത്താവേ, നീ അയച്ച ദൈവപുരുഷന് വീണ്ടും ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു, ജനിപ്പാനിരിക്കുന്ന ബാലന്റെ കാര്യത്തില് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതരുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Manoah prayed to GOD: 'Master, let the man of God you sent come to us again and teach us how to raise this boy who is to be born.'

9. ദൈവം മാനോഹയുടെ പ്രാര്ത്ഥന കേട്ടു; ദൈവദൂതന് വീണ്ടും അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; അവള് വയലില് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു; അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവു മാനോഹ കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.

9. God listened to Manoah. God's angel came again to the woman. She was sitting in the field; her husband Manoah wasn't there with her.

10. ഉടനെ സ്ത്രീ ഔടിച്ചെന്നു ഭര്ത്താവിനെ അറിയിച്ചു; അന്നു എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്ന ആള് ഇതാ, എനിക്കു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായിവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. She jumped to her feet and ran and told her husband: 'He's back! The man who came to me that day!'

11. മാനോഹ ഉടനെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഭാര്യയോടുകൂടെ ചെന്നു ആ പുരുഷന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തി; ഈ സ്ത്രീയോടു സംസാരിച്ച ആള് നീയോ എന്നു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു; ഞാന് തന്നേ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Manoah got up and, following his wife, came to the man. He said to him, 'Are you the man who spoke to my wife?' He said, 'I am.'

12. മാനോഹ അവനോടുനിന്റെ വചനം നിവൃത്തിയാകുമ്പോള് ബാലന്റെ കാര്യത്തില് ഞങ്ങള് എങ്ങനെ ആചരിക്കേണം? അവനെ സംബന്ധിച്ചു എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

12. Manoah said, 'So. When what you say comes true, what do you have to tell us about this boy and his work?'

13. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹയോടുഞാന് സ്ത്രീയോടു പറഞ്ഞതൊക്കെയും അവള് സൂക്ഷിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടെ.

13. The angel of God said to Manoah,

14. മുന്തിരിവള്ളിയില് ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന യാതൊന്നും അവള് തിന്നരുതു; വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയും അരുതു; ഞാന് അവളോടു കല്പിച്ചതൊക്കെയും അവള് ആചരിക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. 'Keep in mind everything I told the woman. Eat nothing that comes from the vine: Drink no wine or beer; eat no ritually unclean foods. She's to observe everything I commanded her.'

15. മാനോഹ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുഞങ്ങള് ഒരു കോലാട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ നിനക്കായി പാകം ചെയ്യുംവരെ നീ താമസിക്കേണമെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Manoah said to the angel of God, 'Please, stay with us a little longer; we'll prepare a meal for you--a young goat.'

16. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹയോടുനീ എന്നെ താമസിപ്പിച്ചാലും ഞാന് നിന്റെ ആഹാരം കഴിക്കയില്ല; ഒരു ഹോമയാഗം കഴിക്കുമെങ്കില് അതു യഹോവേക്കു കഴിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് എന്നു മാനോഹ അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ല.

16. GOD's angel said to Manoah, 'Even if I stay, I won't eat your food. But if you want to prepare a Whole-Burnt-Offering for GOD, go ahead--offer it!' Manoah had no idea that he was talking to the angel of God.

17. മാനോഹ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുനിന്റെ വചനം നിവൃത്തിയാകുമ്പോള് ഞങ്ങള് നിന്നെ ബഹുമാനിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിന്റെ പേരെന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

17. Then Manoah asked the angel of God, 'What's your name? When your words come true, we'd like to honor you.'

18. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് അവനോടുഎന്റെ പേര് ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? അതു അതിശയമുള്ളതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. The angel of GOD said, 'What's this? You ask for my name? You wouldn't understand--it's sheer wonder.'

19. അങ്ങനെ മാനോഹ ഒരു കോലാട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെയും ഭോജനയാഗത്തെയും കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഒരു പാറമേല് യഹോവേക്കു യാഗം കഴിച്ചു; മാനോഹയും ഭാര്യയും നോക്കിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കെ അവന് ഒരു അതിശയം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു.

19. So Manoah took the kid and the Grain-Offering and sacrificed them on a rock altar to GOD who works wonders.

20. അഗ്നിജ്വാല യാഗപീഠത്തിന്മേല്നിന്നു ആകാശത്തിലേക്കു പൊങ്ങിയപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് യാഗപീഠത്തിന്റെ ജ്വാലയോടുകൂടെ കയറിപ്പോയി; മാനോഹയും ഭാര്യയും കണ്ടു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു.

20. As the flames leapt up from the altar to heaven, GOD's angel also ascended in the altar flames. When Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell facedown to the ground.

21. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹെക്കും ഭാര്യെക്കും പിന്നെ പ്രത്യക്ഷനായില്ല; അങ്ങനെ അതു യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് എന്നു മാനോഹ അറിഞ്ഞു.

21. Manoah and his wife never saw the angel of GOD again. Only then did Manoah realize that this was GOD's angel.

22. ദൈവത്തെ കണ്ടതുകൊണ്ടു നാം മരിച്ചുപോകും എന്നു മാനോഹ ഭാര്യയോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. He said to his wife, 'We're as good as dead! We've looked on God!'

23. ഭാര്യ അവനോടുനമ്മെ കൊല്ലുവാന് യഹോവേക്കു ഇഷ്ടമായിരുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന് നമ്മുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു ഹോമയാഗവും ഭോജനയാഗവും കൈക്കൊള്കയോ ഇവ ഒക്കെയും നമുക്കു കാണിച്ചുതരികയോ ഈ സമയത്തു ഇതുപോലെയുള്ള കാര്യം നമ്മെ അറിയിക്കയോ ചെയ്കയില്ലായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. But his wife said, 'If GOD were planning to kill us, he wouldn't have accepted our Whole-Burnt-Offering and Grain-Offering, or revealed all these things to us--given us this birth announcement.'

24. അനന്തരം സ്ത്രീ ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു, അവന്നു ശിംശോന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു ബാലന് വളര്ന്നു; യഹോവ അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

24. The woman gave birth to a son. They named him Samson. The boy grew and GOD blessed him.

25. സോരെക്കും എസ്തായോലിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേയുള്ള മഹനേ--ദാനില്വെച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു അവനെ ഉദ്യമിപ്പിച്ചുതുടങ്ങി.

25. The Spirit of GOD began working in him while he was staying at a Danite camp between Zorah and Eshtaol.
