1. കുറെക്കാലം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു കോതമ്പുകെയ്ത്തുകാലത്തു ശിംശോന് ഒരു കോലാട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെയുംകൊണ്ടു തന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ കാണ്മാന് ചെന്നുശയനഗൃഹത്തില് എന്റെ ഭാര്യയുടെ അടുക്കല് ഞാന് കടന്നുചെല്ലട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവളുടെ അപ്പനോ അവനെ അകത്തു കടപ്പാന് സമ്മതിക്കാതെ

1. Some time later Samson went to visit his wife during the wheat harvest and took her a young goat. He told her father, 'I want to go to my wife's room.' But he wouldn't let him go in.

2. നിനക്കു അവളില് കേവലം അനിഷ്ടമായി എന്നു ഞാന് വിചാരിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവളെ നിന്റെ തോഴന്നു കൊടുത്തുപോയി; അവളുടെ അനുജത്തി അവളെക്കാള് സുന്ദരിയല്ലോ? അവള് മറ്റവള്ക്കു പകരം നിനക്കു ഇരിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. He told Samson, 'I really thought that you hated her, so I gave her to your friend. But her younger sister is prettier, anyway. You can have her, instead.'

3. അതിന്നു ശിംശോന് ഇപ്പോള് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര്ക്കും ഒരു ദോഷം ചെയ്താല് ഞാന് കുറ്റക്കാരനല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. Samson said, 'This time I'm not going to be responsible for what I do to the Philistines!'

4. ശിംശോന് പോയി മുന്നൂറു കുറുക്കന്മാരെ പിടിച്ചു വാലോടുവാല് ചേര്ത്തു പന്തം എടുത്തു ഈരണ്ടു വാലിന്നിടയില് ഔരോ പന്തംവെച്ചു കെട്ടി.

4. So he went and caught three hundred foxes. Two at a time, he tied their tails together and put torches in the knots.

5. പന്തത്തിന്നു തീ കൊളുത്തി ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ വിളവിലേക്കു വിട്ടു, കറ്റയും വിളവും ഒലിവുതോട്ടങ്ങളും എല്ലാം ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു.

5. Then he set fire to the torches and turned the foxes loose in the Philistine wheat fields. In this way he burned up not only the wheat that had been harvested but also the wheat that was still in the fields. The olive orchards were also burned.

6. ഇതു ചെയ്തതു ആര് എന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് അന്വേഷിച്ചാറെ തിമ്നക്കാരന്റെ മരുകന് ശിംശോന് ; അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ അവന് എടുത്തു തോഴന്നു കൊടുത്തുകളഞ്ഞു എന്നു അവര്ക്കും അറിവുകിട്ടി; ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ചെന്നു അവളെയും അവളുടെ അപ്പനെയും തീയിലിട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു.

6. When the Philistines asked who had done this, they learned that Samson had done it because his father-in-law, a man from Timnah, had given Samson's wife to a friend of Samson's. So the Philistines went and burned the woman to death and burned down her father's house.

7. അപ്പോള് ശിംശോന് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് ഈവിധം ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കില് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ പ്രതികാരം ചെയ്യാതെ വിടുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. Samson told them, 'So this is how you act! I swear that I won't stop until I pay you back!'

8. അവരെ കഠിനമായി അടിച്ചു തുടയും നടുവും തകര്ത്തുകളഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ അവന് ചെന്നു ഏതാംപാറയുടെ ഗഹ്വരത്തില് പാര്ത്തു.

8. He attacked them fiercely and killed many of them. Then he went and stayed in the cave in the cliff at Etam.

9. എന്നാല് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ചെന്നു യെഹൂദയില് പാളയമിറങ്ങി ലേഹിയില് എല്ലാം പരന്നു.

9. The Philistines came and camped in Judah, and attacked the town of Lehi.

10. നിങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങളുടെ നേരെ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു യെഹൂദ്യര് ചോദിച്ചു. ശിംശോന് ഞങ്ങളോടു ചെയ്തതുപോലെ ഞങ്ങള് അവനോടും ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു അവനെ പിടിച്ചുകെട്ടുവാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവര് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

10. The men of Judah asked them, 'Why are you attacking us?' They answered, 'We came to take Samson prisoner and to treat him as he treated us.'

11. അപ്പോള് യെഹൂദയില്നിന്നു മൂവായിരംപേര് ഏതാംപാറയുടെ ഗഹ്വരത്തിങ്കല് ചെന്നു ശിംശോനോടുഫെലിസ്ത്യര് നമ്മെ വാഴുന്നു എന്നു നീ അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ? നീ ഞങ്ങളോടു ഇച്ചെയ്തതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അവര് എന്നോടു ചെയ്തതുപോലെ ഞാന് അവരോടും ചെയ്തു എന്നു അവന് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. So these three thousand men of Judah went to the cave in the cliff at Etam and said to Samson, 'Don't you know that the Philistines are our rulers? What have you done to us?' He answered, 'I did to them just what they did to me.'

12. അവര് അവനോടുഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിന്നെ പിടിച്ചുകെട്ടുവാന് ഞങ്ങള് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ശിംശോന് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് തന്നേ എന്നെ കൊല്ലുകയില്ല എന്നു എന്നോടു സത്യം ചെയ്വിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. They told him, 'We have come here to tie you up, so we can hand you over to them.' Samson said, 'Give me your word that you won't kill me yourselves.'

13. അവര് അവനോടുഇല്ല; ഞങ്ങള് നിന്നെ കൊല്ലുകയില്ല; നിന്നെ പിടിച്ചുകെട്ടി അവരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കേയുള്ളു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് രണ്ടു പുതിയ കയര്കൊണ്ടു അവനെ കെട്ടി പാറയില്നിന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

13. 'All right,' they said, 'we are only going to tie you up and hand you over to them. We won't kill you.' So they tied him up with two new ropes and brought him back from the cliff.

14. അവന് ലേഹിയില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് അവനെ കണ്ടിട്ടു ആര്ത്തു. അപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു അവന്റെമേല് വന്നു അവന്റെ കൈ കെട്ടിയിരുന്ന കയര് തീകൊണ്ടു കരിഞ്ഞ ചണനൂല്പോലെ ആയി; അവന്റെ ബന്ധനങ്ങള് കൈമേല്നിന്നു ദ്രവിച്ചുപോയി.

14. When he got to Lehi, the Philistines came running toward him, shouting at him. Suddenly the power of the LORD made him strong, and he broke the ropes around his arms and hands as if they were burnt thread.

15. അവന് ഒരു കഴുതയുടെ പച്ചത്താടിയെല്ലു കണ്ടു കൈ നീട്ടി എടുത്തു അതുകൊണ്ടു ആയിരം പേരെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

15. Then he found a jawbone of a donkey that had recently died. He reached down and picked it up, and killed a thousand men with it.

16. കഴുതയുടെ താടിയെല്ലുകൊണ്ടു കുന്നു ഒന്നു, കുന്നു രണ്ടു; കഴുതയുടെ താടിയെല്ലുകൊണ്ടു ആയിരം പേരെ ഞാന് സംഹരിച്ചു എന്നു ശിംശോന് പറഞ്ഞു.

16. So Samson sang, 'With the jawbone of a donkey I killed a thousand men; With the jawbone of a donkey I piled them up in piles.'

17. ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞുകഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവന് താടിയെല്ലു കയ്യില് നിന്നു എറിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞു; ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു രാമത്ത്--ലേഹി എന്നു പേരായി.

17. After that, he threw the jawbone away. The place where this happened was named Ramath Lehi.

18. പിന്നെ അവന് വളരെ ദാഹിച്ചിട്ടു യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചുഅടിയന്റെ കയ്യാല് ഈ മഹാജയം നീ നല്കിയല്ലോ; ഇപ്പോള് ഞാന് ദാഹംകൊണ്ടു മരിച്ചു അഗ്രചര്മ്മികളുടെ കയ്യില് വീഴേണമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. Then Samson became very thirsty, so he called to the LORD and said, 'You gave me this great victory; am I now going to die of thirst and be captured by these heathen Philistines?'

19. അപ്പോള് ദൈവം ലേഹിയില് ഒരു കുഴി പിളരുമാറാക്കി, അതില്നിന്നു വെള്ളം പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവന് കുടിച്ചു ചൈതന്യം പ്രാപിച്ചുവീണ്ടു ജീവിച്ചു. അതുകൊണ്ടു അതിന്നു ഏന് --ഹക്കോരേ എന്നു പേരായി; അതു ഇന്നുവരെയും ലേഹിയില് ഉണ്ടു.

19. Then God opened a hollow place in the ground there at Lehi, and water came out of it. Samson drank it and began to feel much better. So the spring was named Hakkore; it is still there at Lehi.

20. അവന് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കാലത്തു യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ഇരുപതു സംവത്സരം ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തു.

20. Samson led Israel for twenty years while the Philistines ruled the land.
