1. യിസ്രായേലില് രാജാവില്ലാത്ത ആ കാലത്തു എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടില് ഉള്പ്രദേശത്തു വന്നു പാര്ത്തിരുന്ന ഒരു ലേവ്യന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് യെഹൂദയിലെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില്നിന്നു ഒരു വെപ്പാട്ടിയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

1. And there was a Levite sojourning in the sides of Mount Ephraim, and he took to himself a concubine from Bethlehem Judah.

2. അവന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടി അവനോടു ദ്രോഹിച്ചു വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്തു അവനെ വിട്ടു യെഹൂദയിലെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ വീട്ടില് പോയി നാലു മാസത്തോളം അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു.

2. And his concubine departed from him, and went away from him to the house of her father to Bethlehem Judah, and she was there four months.

3. അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവു പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവളോടു നല്ലവാക്കു പറഞ്ഞു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് അവളെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുചെന്നു; അവനോടുകൂടെ ഒരു ബാല്യക്കാരനും രണ്ടു കഴുതയും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവള് അവനെ തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ വീട്ടില് കൈക്കൊണ്ടു; യുവതിയുടെ അപ്പന് അവനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് അവന്റെ വരവിങ്കല് സന്തോഷിച്ചു.

3. And her husband rose up, and went after her to speak kindly to her, to recover her to himself. And he had his young man with him, and a pair of donkeys; and she brought him into the house of her father. And the father of the young woman saw him, and was well pleased to meet him.

4. യുവതിയുടെ അപ്പനായ അവന്റെ അമ്മാവിയപ്പന് അവനെ പാര്പ്പിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ അവന് മൂന്നു ദിവസം അവനോടുകൂടെ പാര്ത്തു. അവര് തിന്നുകുടിച്ചു അവിടെ രാപാര്ത്തു.

4. And his father-in-law, the father of the young woman, constrained him, and he stayed with him for three days; and they ate and drank, and lodged there.

5. നാലാം ദിവസം അവന് അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു യാത്ര പുറപ്പെടുവാന് ഭാവിച്ചപ്പോള് യുവതിയുടെ അപ്പന് മരുമകനോടുഅല്പം വല്ലതും കഴിച്ചിട്ടു പോകാമല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. And it came to pass on the fourth day that they rose early, and he stood up to depart. And the father of the young woman said to his son-in-law, Strengthen your heart with a morsel of bread, and afterwards you shall go.

6. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ഇരുന്നു രണ്ടുപേരും കൂടെ തിന്നുകയും കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്തു; യുവതിയുടെ അപ്പന് അവനോടുദയചെയ്തു രാപാര്ത്തു സുഖിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. So they two sat down together and ate and drank. And the father of the young woman said to her husband, Now stay the night, and let your heart be merry.

7. അവന് പോകേണ്ടതിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോള് അവന്റെ അമ്മാവിയപ്പന് അവനെ നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിച്ചു; ആ രാത്രിയും അവന് അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു.

7. And the man rose up to depart; but his father-in-law constrained him, and he stayed and lodged there.

8. അഞ്ചാം ദിവസം അവന് പോകേണ്ടതിന്നു അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോള് യുവതിയുടെ അപ്പന് അല്പം വല്ലതും കഴിച്ചിട്ടു വെയിലാറുംവരെ താമസിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവര് രണ്ടുപേരും ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു.

8. And he rose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; and the father of the young woman said, Now strengthen your heart, and do not be a soldier until the day declines; and the two ate.

9. പിന്നെ അവനും അവന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയും ബാല്യക്കാരനും എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോള് യുവതിയുടെ അപ്പനായ അവന്റെ അമ്മാവിയപ്പന് അവനോടുഇതാ, നേരം അസ്തമിപ്പാറായി, ഈ രാത്രിയും താമസിക്ക; നേരം വൈകിയല്ലോ; രാപാര്ത്തു സുഖിക്ക; നാളെ അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോകാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And the man rose up to depart, he and his concubine, and his young man. But his father in law, the father of the young woman said to him, Behold now, the day has declined toward evening; lodge here, and let your heart rejoice; and you shall rise early tomorrow for your journey, and you shall go to your home.

10. എന്നാല് അന്നും രാപാര്പ്പാന് മനസ്സില്ലാതെ അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു പുറപ്പെട്ടു; യെരൂശലേമെന്ന യെബൂസിന്നു സമീപം എത്തി; കോപ്പിട്ട രണ്ടു കഴുതയും അവന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയും അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

10. However the man would not lodge there, but he arose and departed, and came to the part opposite Jebus, (this is Jerusalem) and [there was] with him a pair of donkeys, saddled, and his concubine was with him.

11. അവന് യെബൂസിന്നു സമീപം എത്തിയപ്പോള് നേരം നന്നാവൈകിയിരുന്നു; ബാല്യക്കാരന് യജമാനനോടുനാം ഈ യെബൂസ്യനഗരത്തില് കയറി രാപാര്ക്കരുതോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. And they came as far as Jebus. And the day had far advanced, and the young man said to his master, Come, and let us turn aside to this city of the Jebusites, and let us lodge in it.

12. യജമാനന് അവനോടുയിസ്രായേല്മക്കളില്ലാത്ത ഈ അന്യനഗരത്തില് നാം കയറരുതു; നമുക്കു ഗിബെയയിലേക്കു പോകാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. And his master said to him, We will not turn aside to a strange city, where there is none of the children of Israel, but we will pass on as far as Gibeah.

13. അവന് പിന്നെയും തന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരനോടുനമുക്കു ഈ ഊരുകളില് ഒന്നില് ഗിബെയയിലോ രാമയിലോ രാപാര്ക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. And he said to his young man, Come, and let us draw near to one of the places, and we will lodge in Gibeah or in Ramah.

14. അങ്ങനെ അവന് മുമ്പോട്ടു പോയി ബെന്യാമീന് ദേശത്തിലെ ഗിബെയെക്കു സമീപം എത്തിയപ്പോള് സൂര്യന് അസ്തമിച്ചു.

14. And they passed by and went on, and the sun went down upon them near to Gibeah, which is in Benjamin.

15. അവര് ഗിബെയയില് രാപാര്പ്പാന് കയറി; അവന് ചെന്നു നഗരവീഥിയില് ഇരുന്നു; രാപാര്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരെ വീട്ടില് കൈക്കൊള്വാന് ആരെയും കണ്ടില്ല.

15. And they turned aside there to go in to lodge in Gibeah. And they went in, and sat down in the street of the city, and there was no one would take them into [his] house to spend the night.

16. അനന്തരം ഇതാ, ഒരു വൃദ്ധന് വൈകുന്നേരം വേലകഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു വയലില്നിന്നു വരുന്നു; അവന് എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടുകാരനും ഗിബെയയില് വന്നു പാര്ക്കുംന്നവനും ആയിരുന്നു; ആ ദേശക്കാരോ ബെന്യാമീന്യര് ആയിരുന്നു.

16. And behold, an old man came out of the field from his work in the evening; and the man was of Mount Ephraim, and he sojourned in Gibeah, and the men of the place were sons of Benjamin.

17. വൃദ്ധന് തലയുയര്ത്തി നോക്കിയപ്പോള് നഗരവീഥിയില് വഴിയാത്രക്കാരനെ കണ്ടുനീ എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു? എവിടേക്കു പോകുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

17. And he lifted up his eyes, and saw a traveler in the street of the city; and the old man said to him, Where are you going, and where do you come from?

18. അതിന്നു അവന് ഞങ്ങള് യെഹൂദയിലെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില്നിന്നു എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടില് ഉള്പ്രദേശത്തേക്കു പോകുന്നു; ഞാന് അവിടത്തുകാരന് ആകുന്നു; ഞാന് യെഹൂദയിലെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമിനോളം പോയിരുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു പോകയാകുന്നു; എന്നെ വീട്ടില് കൈക്കൊള്വാന് ഇവിടെ ആരും ഇല്ല.

18. And he said to him, We are passing by from Bethlehem Judah to the sides of Mount Ephraim: I am from there, and I went as far as Bethlehem Judah, and I am going home, and there is no man to take me into his house.

19. ഞങ്ങളുടെ കഴുതകള്ക്കു വൈക്കോലും തീനും ഉണ്ടു; എനിക്കും നിന്റെ ദാസിക്കും അടിയങ്ങളോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ബാല്യക്കാരന്നും അപ്പവും വീഞ്ഞും കൈവശം ഉണ്ടു, ഒന്നിന്നും കുറവില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. Although we have both straw and food for our donkeys, and bread and wine for me and my handmaid and the young man with your servants; there is no lack of anything.

20. അതിന്നു വൃദ്ധന് നിനക്കു സമാധാനം; നിനക്കു വേണ്ടതൊക്കെയും ഞാന് തരും; വീഥിയില് രാപാര്ക്കമാത്രമരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു,

20. And the old man said, Peace be unto you; however [let] all your needs be upon me, and by no means lodge in the street.

21. അവനെ തന്റെ വീട്ടില് കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി കഴുതകള്ക്കു തീന് കൊടുത്തു; അവരും കാലുകള് കഴുകി ഭക്ഷണപാനീയങ്ങള് കഴിച്ചു.

21. And he brought him into his house, and made room for his donkeys; and they washed their feet, and ate and drank.

22. ഇങ്ങനെ അവര് സുഖിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് പട്ടണത്തിലെ ചില നീചന്മാര് വീടു വളഞ്ഞു വാതിലിന്നു മുട്ടിനിന്റെ വീട്ടില് വന്നിരിക്കുന്ന പുരുഷനെ പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുവാ; ഞങ്ങള് അവനെ ഭോഗിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു വീട്ടുടയവനായ വൃദ്ധനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. And they [were] comforting their heart, when behold, the men of the city, sons of transgressors, surrounded the house, knocking at the door. And they spoke to the old man, the owner of the house, saying, Bring out the man who came into your house, that we may know him.

23. വീട്ടുടയവനായ പുരുഷന് അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് പുറത്തു ചെന്നു അവരോടുഅരുതേ, എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ഇങ്ങനെ ദോഷം ചെയ്യരുതേ; ഈ ആള് എന്റെ വീട്ടില് വന്നിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു ഈ വഷളത്വം പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കരുതേ.

23. And the master of the house came out to them, and said, No, brothers, I beg you, do not act so wickedly, seeing this man has come into my house; do not commit this outrage.

24. ഇതാ, കന്യകയായ എന്റെ മകളും ഈയാളുടെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയും ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ടു; അവരെ ഞാന് പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുവരാം; അവരെ എടുത്തു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ബോധിച്ചതുപോലെ അവരോടു ചെയ്വിന് ; ഈ ആളോടോ ഈവക വഷളത്വം പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കരുതേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24. Behold my daughter [is] a virgin, and the man's concubine [is here as well]: I will bring them out, and humble them, and do to them that which is good in your eyes; but to this man do not do such a vile thing!

25. എന്നാല് അവര് അവനെ കൂട്ടാക്കിയില്ല; ആകയാല് ആ പുരുഷന് തന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയെ പിടിച്ചു അവളെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് പുറത്താക്കിക്കൊടുത്തു, അവര് അവളെ പുണര്ന്നു; രാത്രി മുഴുവനും പ്രഭാതംവരെ അവളെ ബലാല്ക്കാരം ചെയ്തു; നേരം വെളുപ്പാറായപ്പോള് അവളെ വിട്ടുപോയി.

25. But the men would not consent to hear him. So the man laid hold of his concubine, and brought her out to them; and they knew her, and abused her all night till the morning, and let her go when the morning dawned.

26. പ്രഭാതത്തിങ്കല് സ്ത്രീ വന്നു തന്റെ യജമാനന് പാര്ത്ത ആ പുരുഷന്റെ വീട്ടുവാതില്ക്കല് വീണുകിടന്നു.

26. And the woman came toward morning, and fell down at the door of the house where her husband was, until it was light.

27. അവളുടെ യജമാനന് രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു വീട്ടിന്റെ വാതില് തുറന്നു തന്റെ വഴിക്കു പോകുവാന് പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയപ്പോള് ഇതാ, അവന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടി വീട്ടുവാതില്ക്കല് കൈ ഉമ്മരപ്പടിമേലായി വീണുകിടക്കുന്നു.

27. And her husband rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went forth to go on his journey; and behold, the woman his concubine had fallen down by the doors of the house, and her hands were on the threshold.

28. അവന് അവളോടുഎഴുന്നേല്ക്ക, നാം പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു മറുപടി ഉണ്ടായില്ല. അവന് അവളെ കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു വെച്ചു പുറപ്പെട്ടു തന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു പോയി,

28. And he said to her, Rise, and let us go; and she answered not, for she was dead. And he took her upon his donkey, and went to his place.

29. വീട്ടില് എത്തിയശേഷം ഒരു കത്തിയെടുത്തു അംഗമംഗമായി തന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയെ പന്ത്രണ്ടു ഖണ്ഡമാക്കി വിഭാഗിച്ചു യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ സകലദിക്കുകളിലും കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

29. And he took his sword, and laid hold of his concubine, and divided her into twelve parts, and sent them to every coast of Israel.

30. അതു കണ്ടവര് എല്ലാവരുംയിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് മിസ്രയീംദേശത്തുനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്ന നാള് മുതല് ഇന്നുവരെയും ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ള പ്രവൃത്തി നടന്നിട്ടില്ല, കണ്ടിട്ടുമില്ല; ഇതിനെപ്പറ്റി ചിന്തിച്ചു ആലോചിച്ചു അഭിപ്രായം പറവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

30. And it was so, that everyone who saw it said, [Such a day] as this has not happened nor has been seen from the day of the going up of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt until this day: take counsel concerning it, and speak.
