1. അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് അവിടം വിട്ടു അദുല്ലാംഗുഹയിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി; അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും അവന്റെ പിതൃഭവനമൊക്കെയും അതു കേട്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു.

1. David left Gath and ran away to the cave of Adullam. David's brothers and relatives heard that David was at Adullam and went to see him there.

2. ഞെരുക്കമുള്ളവര്, കടമുള്ളവര്, സന്തുഷ്ടിയില്ലാത്തവര് എന്നീവകക്കാര് ഒക്കെയും അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുകൂടി; അവന് അവര്ക്കും തലവനായിത്തീര്ന്നു; അവനോടുകൂടെ ഏകദേശം നാനൂറുപേര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

2. Many people joined David. There were men who were in some kind of trouble, men who owed a lot of money, and men who were just not satisfied with life. All kinds of people joined David, and he became their leader. He had about 400 men with him.

3. David left Adullam and went to Mizpah in Moab. David said to the king of Moab, 'Please let my father and mother come and stay with you until I learn what God is going to do to me.'

4. അവന് അവരെ മോവാബ്രാജാവിന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു; ദാവീദ് ദുര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് താമസിച്ച കാലമൊക്കെയും അവര് അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു.

4. So David left his parents with the king of Moab. They stayed with the king of Moab as long as David was at the fort.

5. എന്നാല് ഗാദ്പ്രവാചകന് ദാവീദിനോടുദുര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് പാര്ക്കാതെ യെഹൂദാദേശത്തേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോള് ദാവീദ് പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഹേരെത്ത് കാട്ടില്വന്നു.

5. But the prophet Gad said to David, 'Don't stay in the fort. Go to the land of Judah.' So David left and went to Hereth Forest.

6. ദാവീദിനെയും കൂടെയുള്ളവരെയും കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ശൌല് കേട്ടു; അന്നു ശൌല് കയ്യില് കുന്തവുമായി ഗിബെയയിലെ കുന്നിന്മേലുള്ള പിചുലവൃക്ഷത്തിന് ചുവട്ടില് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് എല്ലാവരും അവന്റെ ചുറ്റും നിന്നിരുന്നു.

6. Saul heard the report about David and his men while sitting under the tree on the hill at Gibeah. Saul had his spear in his hand. All of his officers were standing around him.

7. Saul said to his officers who were standing around him, 'Listen, men of Benjamin. Do you think the son of Jesse (David) will give you fields and vineyards? Do you think he will promote you and make you officers over 1000 men and officers over 100 men?

8. No, but all of you are plotting against me. None of you told me about my son Jonathan and the agreement he made with the son of Jesse. None of you cares enough about me to tell me that my own son Jonathan encouraged David to turn against me and attack me. And that is what David is doing now.'

9. അപ്പോള് ശൌലിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് നിന്നിരുന്ന എദോമ്യനായ ദോവേഗ്നോബില് അഹീതൂബിന്റെ മകനായ അഹീമേലക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കല് യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മകന് വന്നതു ഞാന് കണ്ടു.

9. Doeg the Edomite was standing there with Saul's officers. Doeg said, 'I saw Jesse's son at Nob. David came to see Ahimelech son of Ahitub.

10. അവന് അവന്നുവേണ്ടി യഹോവയോടു അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിച്ചു, അവന്നു ഭക്ഷണസാധനവും ഫെലിസ്ത്യനായ ഗൊല്യാത്തിന്റെ വാളും കൊടുത്തു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

10. Ahimelech prayed to the Lord for David and gave him some food. He even gave David the sword of Goliath the Philistine.'

11. ഉടനെ രാജാവു അഹീതൂബിന്റെ മകനായ അഹീമേലെക് പുരോഹിതനെയും അവന്റെ പിതൃഭവനക്കാരായ നോബിലെ സകല പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും വിളിപ്പിച്ചു; അവര് എല്ലാവരും രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

11. Then King Saul ordered some men to bring the priest to him. Saul told them to bring Ahimelech son of Ahitub and all his relatives who were priests at Nob. So all of them came to the king.

12. അപ്പോള് ശൌല്അഹീതൂബിന്റെ മകനേ, കേള്ക്ക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. തിരുമേനീ, അടിയന് എന്നു അവന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Saul said to Ahimelech, 'Listen now, son of Ahitub.' Ahimelech answered, 'Yes, sir.'

13. Saul said to him, 'Why did you and Jesse's son make secret plans against me? You gave David bread and a sword. You prayed to God for him. And right now, David is waiting to attack me.'

14. അഹീമേലെക് രാജാവിനോടുതിരുമനസ്സിലെ സകലഭൃത്യന്മാരിലും വെച്ചു ദാവീദിനോളം വിശ്വസ്തന് ആരുള്ളു? അവന് രാജാവിന്റെ മരുമകനും അവിടത്തെ ആലോചനയില് ചേരുന്നവനും രാജധാനിയില് മാന്യനും ആകുന്നുവല്ലോ.

14. Ahimelech answered, 'David is very faithful to you. Not one of your other officers is as faithful as David. He is your own son-in-law and the captain of your bodyguards. Your own family respects David.

15. അവന്നു വേണ്ടി ദൈവത്തോടു ചോദിപ്പാന് ഞാന് ഇപ്പോഴോ തുടങ്ങിയതു? അങ്ങനെയല്ല. രാജാവു അടിയന്റെമേലും അടിയന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിന്മേലും കുറ്റം ഒന്നും ചുമത്തരുതേ; അടിയന് ഇതിലെങ്ങും യാതൊന്നും അറിഞ്ഞവനല്ല എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

15. That was not the first time I prayed to God for David. Not at all! Don't blame me or any of my relatives. We are your servants. I know nothing about what is happening.'

16. അപ്പോള് രാജാവുഅഹീമേലെക്കേ, നീ മരിക്കേണം; നീയും നിന്റെ പിതൃഭവനമൊക്കെയും തന്നെ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

16. But the king said, 'Ahimelech, you and all your relatives must die.'

17. പിന്നെ രാജാവു അരികെ നിലക്കുന്ന അകമ്പടികളോടുചെന്നു യഹോവയുടെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരെ കൊല്ലുവിന് ; അവരും ദാവീദിനോടു ചേര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് ഔടിപ്പോയതു അവര് അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടും എന്നെ അയിറിച്ചില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. എന്നാല് യഹോവയുടെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരെ കൊല്ലുവാന് കൈ നീട്ടുന്നതിന്നു രാജാവിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് തുനിഞ്ഞില്ല.

17. Then the king told the guards at his side, 'Go and kill the priests of the Lord because they are on David's side too. They knew he was running away, but they didn't tell me.' The king's officers refused to hurt the priests of the Lord.

18. അപ്പോള് രാജാവു ദോവേഗിനോടുനീ ചെന്നു പുരോഹിതന്മാരെ കൊല്ലുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. എദോമ്യനായ ദോവേഗ് ചെന്നു പുരോഹിതന്മാരെ വെട്ടി പഞ്ഞിനൂല്കൊണ്ടുള്ള ഏഫോദ് ധരിച്ച എണ്പത്തഞ്ചുപേരെ അന്നു കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

18. So the king gave the order to Doeg. Saul said, 'Doeg, you go kill the priests.' So Doeg the Edomite went and killed the priests. That day he killed 85 men who were priests.

19. പുരോഹിതനഗരമായ നോബിന്റെ പുരുഷന്മാര്, സ്ത്രീകള്, ബാലന്മാര്, ശിശുക്കള്, കാള, കഴുത, ആടു എന്നിങ്ങനെ ആസകലം വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് അവന് സംഹരിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

19. Nob was the city of the priests. Doeg killed all the people of Nob. He used his sword and killed men, women, children and small babies. He even killed their cattle, donkeys, and sheep.

20. എന്നാല് അഹീതൂബിന്റെ മകനായ അഹീമേലെക്കിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരില് അബ്യാഥാര് എന്നൊരുത്തന് തെറ്റിയൊഴിഞ്ഞു ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഔടിപ്പോയി.

20. But Abiathar son of Ahimelech escaped. He ran away and joined David.

21. ശൌല് യഹോവയുടെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരെ കൊന്ന വിവരം അബ്യാഥാര് ദാവീദിനെ അറിയിച്ചു.

21. Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the Lord's priests.

22. ദാവീദ് അബ്യാഥാരിനോടുഎദോമ്യനായ ദോവേഗ് അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് ശൌലിനോടു അറിയിക്കും എന്നു ഞാന് അന്നു തന്നേ നിശ്ചയിച്ചു.

22. Then David told Abiathar, 'I saw Doeg the Edomite at Nob that day. I knew he would tell Saul! I am responsible for the death of your father's family.

23. നിന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിന്നൊക്കെയും ഞാന് മരണത്തിന്നു കാരണമായല്ലോ. എന്റെ അടുക്കല് പാര്ക്ക; ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; എനിക്കു ജീവഹാനി വരുത്തുവാന് നോക്കുന്നവന് നിനക്കും ജീവഹാനി വരുത്തുവാന് നോക്കുന്നു; എങ്കിലും എന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിനക്കു നിര്ഭയവാസം ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. Stay with me. Don't be afraid, because the man (Saul) who tried to kill you is the same man who wants to kill me. I will protect you if you stay with me.'
