1. അനന്തരം സീഫ്യര് ഗിബെയയില് ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; ദാവീദ് മരുഭൂമിക്കു തെക്കുള്ള ഹഖീലാക്കുന്നില് ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

1. And the Ziphites came unto Saul at Gibeah, saying, 'Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?'

2. ശൌല് എഴുന്നേറ്റു ദാവീദിനെ തിരയുവാന് സീഫ് മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു ചെന്നു; യിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നു തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരുന്ന മൂവായിരംപേരും അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

2. Then Saul arose and went down to the Wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the Wilderness of Ziph.

3. ശൌല് മരുഭൂമിക്കു തെക്കുള്ള ഹഖീലാക്കുന്നില് പെരുവഴിക്കരികെ പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി. ദാവീദോ മരുഭൂമിയില് പാര്ത്തു, ശൌല് തന്നേ തേടി മരുഭൂമിയില് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

3. And Saul pitched camp on the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the road. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

4. അതുകൊണ്ടു ദാവീദ് ചാരന്മാരെ അയച്ചു ശൌല് ഇന്നേടത്തു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞു.

4. David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had come indeed.

5. ദാവീദ് എഴുന്നേറ്റു ശൌല് പാളയം ഇറങ്ങിയിരുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു ചെന്നു; ശൌലും അവന്റെ സേനാപതിയായ നേരിന്റെ മകന് അബ്നേരും കിടക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലം ദാവീദ് കണ്ടു; ശൌല് കൈനിലയുടെ നടുവില് കിടന്നുറങ്ങി; പടജ്ജനം അവന്റെ ചുറ്റും പാളയമിറങ്ങിയിരുന്നു.

5. And David arose and came to the place where Saul had pitched camp. And David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host; and Saul lay in the entrenchment, and the people pitched round about him.

6. ദാവീദ് ഹിത്യനായ അഹീമേലെക്കിനോടും സെരൂയയുടെ മകനും യോവാബിന്റെ സഹോദരനുമായ അബീശായിയോടുംപാളയത്തില് ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു ആര് എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരും എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. ഞാന് നിന്നോടു കൂടെ പോരും എന്നു അബീശായി പറഞ്ഞു.

6. Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother of Joab, saying, 'Who will go down with me to Saul into the camp?' And Abishai said, 'I will go down with thee.'

7. ഇങ്ങനെ ദാവീദും അബീശായിയും രാത്രിയില് പടജ്ജനത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു; ശൌല് കൈനിലെക്കകത്തു കിടന്നുറങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ കുന്തം അവന്റെ തലെക്കല് നിലത്തു തറെച്ചിരുന്നു; അബ്നേരും പടജ്ജനവും അവന്നു ചുറ്റും കിടന്നിരുന്നു.

7. So David and Abishai came to the people by night. And behold, Saul lay sleeping within the entrenchment, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster; but Abner and the people lay round about him.

8. അബീശായി ദാവീദിനോടുദൈവം നിന്റെ ശത്രുവിനെ ഇന്നു നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന് അവനെ കുന്തംകൊണ്ടു നിലത്തോടു ചേര്ത്തു ഒരു കുത്തായിട്ടു കുത്തട്ടെ; രണ്ടാമതു കുത്തുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Then said Abishai to David, 'God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day. Now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.'

9. ദാവീദ് അബീശായിയോടുഅവനെ നശിപ്പിക്കരുതു; യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തന്റെ മേല് കൈ വെച്ചിട്ടു ആര് ശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കാതെപോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And David said to Abishai, 'Destroy him not, for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD'S anointed and be guiltless?'

10. യഹോവയാണ, യഹോവ അവനെ സംഹരിക്കും; അല്ലെങ്കില് അവന് മരിപ്പാനുള്ള ദിവസം വരും; അല്ലെങ്കില് അവന് പടെക്കു ചെന്നു നശിക്കും;

10. David said furthermore, 'As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him, or his day shall come to die, or he shall descend into battle and perish.

11. ഞാന് യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തന്റെമേല് കൈ വെപ്പാന് യഹോവ സംഗതിവരുത്തരുതേ; എങ്കിലും അവന്റെ തലെക്കല് ഉള്ള കുന്തവും ജലപാത്രവും എടുത്തുകൊള്ക; നമുക്കു പോകാം എന്നു ദാവീദ് പറഞ്ഞു.

11. The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed; but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.'

12. ഇങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് കുന്തവും ജലപാത്രവും ശൌലിന്റെ തലെക്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തു അവര് പോകയും ചെയ്തു; ആരും കണ്ടില്ല, ആരും അറിഞ്ഞില്ല, ആരും ഉണര്ന്നതുമില്ല; അവര് എല്ലാവരും ഉറങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു; യഹോവയാല് ഗാഢനിദ്ര അവരുടെമേല് വീണിരുന്നു.

12. So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster, and they got away. And no man saw it nor knew it, neither awakened; for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from the LORD had fallen upon them.

13. ദാവീദ് അപ്പുറം കടന്നുചെന്നു ദൂരത്തു ഒരു മലമുകളില് നിന്നു; അവര്ക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ മതിയായ അകലമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

13. Then David went over to the other side and stood on the top of a hill afar off, a great space being between them.

15. ദാവീദ് അബ്നേരിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനീ ഒരു പുരുഷന് അല്ലയോ? യിസ്രായേലില് നിനക്കു തുല്യന് ആരുള്ളു? അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെ നിന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ നീ കാത്തുകൊള്ളാതിരുന്നതു എന്തു? നിന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ നശിപ്പിപ്പാന് ജനത്തില് ഒരുത്തന് അവിടെ വന്നിരുന്നുവല്ലോ.

15. And David said to Abner, 'Art not thou a valiant man? And who is like to thee in Israel? Why then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? For there came in one of the people to destroy the king thy lord.

16. നീ ചെയ്ത കാര്യം നന്നായില്ല; യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനായ നിങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനനെ കാത്തുകൊള്ളാതിരിക്കയാല് യഹോവയാണ നിങ്ങള് മരണയോഗ്യര് ആകുന്നു. രാജാവിന്റെ കുന്തവും അവന്റെ തലെക്കല് ഇരുന്ന ജലപാത്രവും എവിടെ എന്നു നോക്കുക.

16. This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD'S anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.'

17. അപ്പോള് ശൌല് ദാവീദിന്റെ ശബ്ദം തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞുഎന്റെ മകനെ, ദാവീദേ, ഇതു നിന്റെ ശബ്ദമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു ദാവീദ് എന്റെ ശബ്ദം തന്നേ, യജമാനനായ രാജാവേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. And Saul knew David's voice, and said, 'Is this thy voice, my son David?' And David said, 'It is my voice, my lord, O king.'

18. യജമാനന് ഇങ്ങനെ അടിയനെ തേടിനടക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അടിയന് എന്തു ചെയ്തു? അടിയന്റെ പക്കല് എന്തു ദോഷം ഉള്ളു?

18. And he said, 'Why doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? For what have I done, or what evil is in mine hand?

19. ആകയാല് യജമാനനായ രാജാവു അടിയന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കേണമേ; തിരുമേനിയെ അടിയന്നു വിരോധമായി ഉദ്യോഗിപ്പിക്കുന്നതു യഹോവയാകുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന് ഒരു വഴിപാടു ഏറ്റു പ്രസാദിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ; മനുഷ്യര് എങ്കിലോ അവര് യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ ശപിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കട്ടെ. നീ പോയി അന്യദൈവങ്ങളെ സേവിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു യഹോവയുടെ അവകാശത്തില് എനിക്കു പങ്കില്ലാതാകുംവണ്ണം അവര് എന്നെ ഇന്നു പുറത്തു തള്ളിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let Him accept an offering; but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD, for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, `Go, serve other gods.'

20. എന്റെ രക്തം യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ നിലത്തു വീഴരുതേ; ഒരുത്തന് പര്വ്വതങ്ങളില് ഒരു കാട്ടുകോഴിയെ തേടുന്നതുപോലെ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു ഒരു ഒറ്റ ചെള്ളിനെ തിരഞ്ഞു പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നും അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

20. Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD; for the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.'

21. അതിന്നു ശൌല്ഞാന് പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ മകനേ, ദാവീദേ, മടങ്ങിവരിക; എന്റെ ജീവന് ഇന്നു നിനക്കു വിലയേറിയതായി തോന്നിയതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് ഇനി നിനക്കു ദോഷം ചെയ്കയില്ല; ഞാന് ഭോഷത്വം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു അത്യന്തം തെറ്റിപ്പോയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. Then said Saul, 'I have sinned. Return, my son David, for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day. Behold, I have played the fool and have erred exceedingly.'

22. ദാവീദ് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുരാജാവേ, കുന്തം ഇതാ; ബാല്യക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തന് വന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോകട്ടെ.

22. And David answered and said, 'Behold the king's spear! Let one of the young men come over and fetch it.

23. യഹോവ ഔരോരുത്തന്നു അവനവന്റെ നീതിക്കും വിശ്വസ്തതെക്കും ഒത്തവണ്ണം പകരം നല്കട്ടെ; യഹോവ ഇന്നു നിന്നെ എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; എങ്കിലും യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തന്റെ മേല് കൈവെപ്പാന് എനിക്കു മനസ്സായില്ല.

23. The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the LORD delivered thee into my hand today, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed.

24. എന്നാല് നിന്റെ ജീവന് ഇന്നു എനിക്കു വിലയേറിയതായിരുന്നതുപോലെ എന്റെ ജീവന് യഹോവേക്കു വിലയേറിയതായിരിക്കട്ടെ; അവന് എന്നെ സകല കഷ്ടതയില് നിന്നും രക്ഷിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ.

24. And behold, as thy life was much esteemed this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much esteemed in the eyes of the LORD, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation.'

25. അപ്പോള് ശൌല് ദാവീദിനോടുഎന്റെ മകനേ, ദാവീദേ, നീ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് ; നീ കൃതാര്ത്ഥനാകും; നീ ജയംപ്രാപിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് തന്റെ വഴിക്കു പോയി; ശൌലും തന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

25. Then Saul said to David, 'Blessed be thou, my son David. Thou shalt both do great things and also shalt still prevail.' So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
