1. യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ പിതാവു പരദേശിയായി പാര്ത്ത ദേശമായ കനാന് ദേശത്തു വസിച്ചു.

1. And Jacob dwelled in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.

2. യാക്കോബിന്റെ വംശപാരമ്പര്യം എന്തെന്നാല്യോസേഫിന്നു പതിനേഴുവയസ്സായപ്പോള് അവന് തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടുകൂടെ ആടുകളെ മേയിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ഒരു ബാലനായി തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരായ ബില്ഹയുടെയും സില്പയുടെയും പുത്രന്മാരോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നു അവരെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ദുഃശ്രുതി യോസേഫ് അപ്പനോടു വന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brothers; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought to his father their evil report.

3. യോസേഫ് വാര്ദ്ധക്യത്തിലെ മകനാകകൊണ്ടു യിസ്രായേല് എല്ലാമക്കളിലുംവെച്ചു അവനെ അധികം സ്നേഹിച്ചു ഒരു നിലയങ്കി അവന്നു ഉണ്ടാക്കിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു.

3. Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colors.

4. അപ്പന് തങ്ങളെ എല്ലാവരെക്കാളും അവനെ അധികം സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാര് കണ്ടിട്ടു അവനെ പകെച്ചു; അവനോടു സമാധാനമായി സംസാരിപ്പാന് അവര്ക്കും കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

4. And when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.

5. യോസേഫ് ഒരു സ്വപ്നം കണ്ടു; അതു തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടു അറിയിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് അവനെ പിന്നെയും അധികം പകെച്ചു.

5. And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brothers: and they hated him yet the more.

6. അവന് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന് കണ്ട സ്വപ്നം കേട്ടുകൊള്വിന് .

6. And he said to them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:

7. നാം വയലില് കറ്റകെട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു; അപ്പോള് എന്റെ കറ്റ എഴുന്നേറ്റു നിവിര്ന്നുനിന്നു; നിങ്ങളുടെ കറ്റകള് ചുറ്റും നിന്നു എന്റെ കറ്റയെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

7. For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, see, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.

8. അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാര് അവനോടുനീ ഞങ്ങളുടെ രാജാവാകുമോ? നീ ഞങ്ങളെ വാഴുമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു, അവന്റെ സ്വപ്നങ്ങള് നിമത്തവും അവന്റെ വാക്കുനിമിത്തവും അവനെ പിന്നെയും അധികം ദ്വേഷിച്ചു.

8. And his brothers said to him, Shall you indeed reign over us? or shall you indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.

9. അവന് മറ്റൊരു സ്വപ്നം കണ്ടു തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടു അറിയിച്ചുഞാന് പിന്നെയും ഒരു സ്വപ്നം കണ്ടു; സൂര്യനും ചന്ദ്രനും പതിനൊന്നു നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളും എന്നെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brothers, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.

10. അവന് അതു അപ്പനോടും സഹോദരന്മാരോടും അറിയിച്ചപ്പോള് അപ്പന് അവനെ ശാസിച്ചു അവനോടുനീ ഈ കണ്ട സ്വപ്നം എന്തു? ഞാനും നിന്റെ അമ്മയും നിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നിന്നെ നമസ്കരിപ്പാന് വരുമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And he told it to his father, and to his brothers: and his father rebuked him, and said to him, What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow down ourselves to you to the earth?

11. അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാര്ക്കും അവനോടു അസൂയ തോന്നി; അപ്പനോ ഈ വാക്കു മനസ്സില് സംഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

11. And his brothers envied him; but his father observed the saying.

12. അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാര് അപ്പന്റെ ആടുകളെ മേയ്പാന് ശെഖേമില് പോയിരുന്നു.

12. And his brothers went to feed their father's flock in Shechem.

13. യിസ്രായേല് യോസേഫിനോടുനിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാര് ശെഖേമില് ആടുമേയിക്കുന്നുണ്ടല്ലോ; വരിക, ഞാന് നിന്നെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് അയക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു അവന് അവനോടുഞാന് പോകാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. And Israel said to Joseph, Do not your brothers feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send you to them. And he said to him, Here am I.

14. അവന് അവനോടുനീ ചെന്നു നിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാര്ക്കും സുഖം തന്നേയോ? ആടുകള് നന്നായിരിക്കുന്നുവോ എന്നു നോക്കി, വന്നു വസ്തുത അറിയിക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ഹെബ്രോന് താഴ്വരയില് നിന്നു അവനെ അയച്ചു; അവന് ശെഖേമില് എത്തി.

14. And he said to him, Go, I pray you, see whether it be well with your brothers, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

15. അവന് വെളിന് പ്രദേശത്തു ചുറ്റിനടക്കുന്നതു ഒരുത്തന് കണ്ടുനീ എന്തു അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

15. And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seek you?

16. അതിന്നു അവന് ഞാന് എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരെ അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നു; അവര് എവിടെ ആടു മേയിക്കുന്നു എന്നു എന്നോടു അറിയിക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. And he said, I seek my brothers: tell me, I pray you, where they feed their flocks.

17. അവര് ഇവിടെ നിന്നു പോയി; നാം ദോഥാനിലേക്കു പോക എന്നു അവര് പറയുന്നതു ഞാന് കേട്ടു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ യോസേഫ് തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരെ അന്വേഷിച്ചു ചെന്നു ദോഥാനില്വെച്ചു കണ്ടു.

17. And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brothers, and found them in Dothan.

18. അവര് അവനെ ദൂരത്തു നിന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടു അവനെ കൊല്ലേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന് അടുത്തുവരുംമുമ്പെ അവന്നു വിരോധമായി ദുരാലോചന ചെയ്തു

18. And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near to them, they conspired against him to slay him.

19. അതാ, സ്വപ്നക്കാരന് വരുന്നു; വരുവിന് , നാം അവനെ കൊന്നു ഒരു കുഴിയില് ഇട്ടുകളക;

19. And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer comes.

20. ഒരു ദുഷ്ടമൃഗം അവനെ തിന്നുകളഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറയാം; അവന്റെ സ്വപ്നങ്ങള് എന്താകുമെന്നു നമുക്കു കാണാമല്ലോ എന്നു തമ്മില് തമ്മില് പറഞ്ഞു.

20. Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast has devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.

21. രൂബേന് അതു കേട്ടിട്ടുനാം അവന്നു ജീവഹാനി വരുത്തരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ അവരുടെ കയ്യില് നിന്നു വിടുവിച്ചു.

21. And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him.

22. അവരുടെ കയ്യില് നിന്നു അവനെ വിടുവിച്ചു അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടു പോകേണമെന്നു കരുതിക്കൊണ്ടു രൂബേന് അവരോടുരക്തം ചൊരിയിക്കരുതു; നിങ്ങള് അവന്റെമേല് കൈ വെക്കാതെ മരുഭൂമിയിലുള്ള ആ കുഴിയില് അവനെ ഇടുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. And Reuben said to them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand on him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again.

23. യേസേഫ് തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നപ്പോള് അവന് ഉടുത്തിരുന്ന നിലയങ്കി അവര് ഊരി, അവനെ എടുത്തു ഒരു കുഴിയില് ഇട്ടു.

23. And it came to pass, when Joseph was come to his brothers, that they stripped Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colors that was on him;

24. അതു വെള്ളമില്ലാത്ത പൊട്ടകൂഴി ആയിരുന്നു.

24. And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.

25. അവര് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിപ്പാന് ഇരുന്നപ്പോള് തലപൊക്കി നോക്കി, ഗിലെയാദില്നിന്നു സാംപ്രാണിയും സുഗന്ധപ്പശയും സന്നിനായകവും ഒട്ടകപ്പുറത്തു കയറ്റി മിസ്രയീമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്ന യിശ്മായേല്യരുടെ ഒരു യാത്രക്കൂട്ടം വരുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

25. And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

26. അപ്പോള് യെഹൂദാ തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടുനാം നമ്മുടെ സഹോദരനെ കൊന്നു അവന്റെ രക്തം മറെച്ചിട്ടു എന്തു ഉപകാരം?

26. And Judah said to his brothers, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?

27. വരുവിന് , നാം അവനെ യിശ്മായേല്യര്ക്കും വിലക്കുക; നാം അവന്റെ മേല് കൈ വെക്കരുതു; അവന് നമ്മുടെ സഹോദരനും നമ്മുടെ മാംസവുമല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അവന്റെ സാഹോദരന്മാര് അതിന്നു സമ്മതിച്ചു.

27. Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be on him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brothers were content.

28. മിദ്യാന്യകച്ചവടക്കാര് കടന്നുപോകുമ്പോള് അവര് യോസേഫിനെ കുഴിയില്നിന്നു വലിച്ചു കയറ്റി, യിശ്മായേല്യര്ക്കും ഇരുപതു വെള്ളിക്കാശിന്നു വിറ്റു. അവര് യോസേഫിനെ മിസ്രയീമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

28. Then there passed by Midianites merchants; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.

29. രൂബേന് തിരികെ കുഴിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നപ്പോള് യോസേഫ് കുഴിയില് ഇല്ല എന്നു കണ്ടു തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം കീറി,

29. And Reuben returned to the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes.

30. സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുബാലനെ കാണുന്നില്ലല്ലോ; ഞാന് ഇനി എവിടെ പോകേണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

30. And he returned to his brothers, and said, The child is not; and I, where shall I go?

31. പിന്നെ അവര് ഒരു കോലാട്ടുകൊറ്റനെ കൊന്നു, യോസേഫിന്റെ അങ്കി എടുത്തു രക്തത്തില് മുക്കി.

31. And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood;

32. അവര് നിലയങ്കി തങ്ങളുടെ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊടുത്തയച്ചുഇതു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു കണ്ടുകിട്ടി; ഇതു നിന്റെ മകന്റെ അങ്കിയോ അല്ലയോ എന്നു നോക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32. And they sent the coat of many colors, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be your son's coat or no.

33. അവന് അതു തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞുഇതു എന്റെ മകന്റെ അങ്കി തന്നേ; ഒരു ദുഷ്ടമൃഗം അവനെ തിന്നുകളഞ്ഞുയോസേഫിനെ പറിച്ചുകീറിപ്പോയി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

33. And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast has devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.

34. യാക്കോബ് വസ്ത്രം കീറി, അരയില് രട്ടുശീല ചുറ്റി ഏറിയനാള് തന്റെ മകനെച്ചൊല്ലി ദുഃഖിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു

34. And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth on his loins, and mourned for his son many days.

35. അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും പുത്രിമാരും എല്ലാം അവനെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിപ്പാന് വന്നു; അവനോ ആശ്വാസം കൈക്കൊള്വാന് മനസ്സില്ലാതെഞാന് ദുഃഖത്തോടെ എന്റെ മകന്റെ അടുക്കല് പാതാളത്തില് ഇറങ്ങുമെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഇങ്ങനെ അവന്റെ അപ്പന് അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

35. And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave to my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.

36. എന്നാല് മിദ്യാന്യര് അവനെ മിസ്രയീമില് ഫറവോന്റെ ഒരു ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായി അകമ്പടി നായകനായ പോത്തീഫറിന്നു വിറ്റു.

36. And the Midianites sold him into Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, and captain of the guard.
