1. യേഹൂവിന്റെ ഏഴാം ആണ്ടില് യെഹോവാശ് വാഴ്ചതുടങ്ങി; അവന് യെരൂശലേമില് നാല്പതു സംവത്സരം വാണു. ബേര്-ശേബക്കാരത്തിയായ അവന്റെ അമ്മെക്കു സിബ്യാ എന്നു പേര്.

1. In the seventh year of Jehu, Joash began his kingly rule. He was king for forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Gazelle. She was from Beersheba.

2. യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന് യെഹോവാശിനെ ഉപദേശിച്ചുപോന്ന കാലത്തൊക്കെയും അവന് യഹോവേക്കു ഇഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു.

2. Taught and trained by Jehoiada the priest, Joash did what pleased GOD for as long as he lived.

3. എങ്കിലും പൂജാഗിരികള്ക്കു നീക്കം വന്നില്ല; ജനം പൂജാഗിരികളില് യാഗം കഴിച്ചും ധൂപം കാട്ടിയും പോന്നു.

3. (Even so, he didn't get rid of the sacred fertility shrines--people still frequented them, sacrificing and burning incense.)

4. യെഹോവാശ് പുരോഹിതന്മാരോടുയഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് നിവേദിതമായി പിരിഞ്ഞുകിട്ടുന്ന ദ്രവ്യമൊക്കെയും ഔരോ ആളെ മതിച്ച വിലയും യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ഔരോരുത്തന് കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന സ്വമേധാദാനമായ ദ്രവ്യമൊക്കെയും

4. Joash instructed the priests: 'Take the money that is brought into The Temple of GOD for holy offerings--both mandatory offerings and freewill offerings--

5. ഔരോ പുരോഹിതനും താന്താന്റെ പരിചയക്കാരോടു വാങ്ങി ആലയത്തിന്നു അറ്റകുറ്റം കാണുന്നേടത്തൊക്കെയും അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ക്കേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

5. and, keeping a careful accounting, use them to renovate The Temple wherever it has fallen into disrepair.'

6. എന്നാല് യെഹോവാശ് രാജാവിന്റെ ഇരുപത്തിമൂന്നാം ആണ്ടില് പുരോഹിതന്മാര് ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ത്തിട്ടില്ലായിരുന്നു.

6. But by the twenty-third year of Joash's rule, the priests hadn't done one thing--The Temple was as dilapidated as ever.

7. ആകയാല് യെഹോവാശ് രാജാവു യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതനെയും ശേഷം പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും വരുത്തി അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? ഇനി നിങ്ങള് നിങ്ങളുടെ പരിചയക്കാരോടു ദ്രവ്യം വാങ്ങാതെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അതു കൊടുപ്പിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. King Joash called Jehoiada the priest and the company of priests and said, 'Why haven't you renovated this sorry-looking Temple? You are forbidden to take any more money for Temple repairs--from now on, hand over everything you get.'

8. അങ്ങനെ പുരോഹിതന്മാര് തങ്ങള് മേലാല് ജനത്തോടു ദ്രവ്യം വാങ്ങാതിരിപ്പാനും ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ക്കാതിരിപ്പാനും സമ്മതിച്ചു.

8. The priests agreed not to take any more money or to be involved in The Temple renovation.

9. അപ്പോള് യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന് ഒരു പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു അതിന്റെ മൂടിയില് ഒരു ദ്വാരം ഉണ്ടാക്കി യാഗപീഠത്തിന്നരികെ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കുള്ള പ്രവേശനത്തിന്റെ വലത്തു ഭാഗത്തു വെച്ചു; വാതില് കാക്കുന്ന പുരോഹിതന്മാര് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു വരുന്ന ദ്രവ്യം ഒക്കെയും അതില് ഇടും.

9. Then Jehoiada took a single chest and bored a hole in the lid and placed it to the right of the main entrance into The Temple of GOD. All the offerings that were brought to The Temple of GOD were placed in the chest by the priests who guarded the entrance.

10. പെട്ടകത്തില് ദ്രവ്യം വളരെയായി എന്നു കാണുമ്പോള് രാജാവിന്റെ രായസക്കാരനും മഹാപുരോഹിതനും കൂടെച്ചെന്നു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് കണ്ട ദ്രവ്യം എണ്ണി സഞ്ചികളില് കെട്ടും.

10. When they saw that a large sum of money had accumulated in the chest, the king's secretary and the chief priest would empty the chest and count the offerings.

11. അവര് ദ്രവ്യം യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ പണി നടത്തുന്ന വിചാരകന്മാരുടെ പക്കല് തൂക്കിക്കൊടുക്കും; അവര് അതു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് പണിചെയ്യുന്ന ആശാരിമാര്ക്കും ശില്പികള്ക്കും

11. They would give the money accounted for to the managers of The Temple project; they in turn would pay the carpenters, construction workers,

12. കല്പണിക്കാര്ക്കും കല്ലുവെട്ടുകാര്ക്കും യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്പ്പാന് വേണ്ടുന്ന മരവും ചെത്തിയ കല്ലും വാങ്ങുന്നതിന്നും ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്പ്പാന് വേണ്ടുന്ന ചെലവൊക്കെയും കഴിക്കുന്നതിന്നും കൊടുക്കും.

12. masons, stoneworkers, and the buyers of timber and quarried stone for the repair and renovation of The Temple of GOD--any expenses connected with fixing up The Temple.

13. യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് പിരിഞ്ഞുകിട്ടിയ ദ്രവ്യംകൊണ്ടു വെള്ളിക്കിണ്ണം, കത്രിക, കലം കാഹളം എന്നിങ്ങനെ പൊന്നും വെള്ളിയുംകൊണ്ടുള്ള യാതൊരു ഉപകരണങ്ങളും അവര് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയംവകെക്കു ഉണ്ടാക്കാതെ

13. But none of the money brought into The Temple of GOD was used for liturgical 'extras' (silver chalices, candle snuffers, trumpets, various gold and silver vessels, etc.).

14. പണിചെയ്യുന്നവര്ക്കും മാത്രം അതു കൊടുക്കും; അങ്ങനെ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്നു അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ക്കും.

14. It was given to the workmen to pay for their repairing GOD's Temple.

15. എന്നാല് പണിചെയ്യുന്നവര്ക്കും കൊടുക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദ്രവ്യം ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങിയവരോടു അവര് കണകൂ ചോദിച്ചില്ല; വിശ്വാസത്തിന്മേല് ആയിരുന്നു അവര് പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചുപോന്നതു.

15. And no one even had to check on the men who handled the money given for the project--they were honest men.

16. അകൃത്യയാഗത്തിന്റെ ദ്രവ്യവും പാപയാഗത്തിന്റെ ദ്രവ്യവും യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് കൊണ്ടുവന്നില്ല; അതു പുരോഹിതന്മാര്ക്കുംള്ളതായിരുന്നു.

16. Offerings designated for Compensation Offerings and Absolution Offerings didn't go into the building project--those went directly to the priests.

17. ആ കാലത്തു അരാംരാജാവായ ഹസായേല് പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഗത്തിനെ യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു പിടിച്ചു; ഹസായേല് യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ നേരെയും വരേണ്ടതിന്നു

17. Around this time Hazael king of Aram ventured out and attacked Gath, and he captured it. Then he decided to try for Jerusalem.

18. ദൃഷ്ടിവെച്ചാറെ യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോവാശ് തന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരായ യെഹോശാഫാത്ത്, യെഹോരാം, അഹസ്യാവു എന്നീ യെഹൂദാരാജാക്കന്മാര് നിവേദിച്ചിരുന്ന സകലനിവേദിതവസ്തുക്കളും താന് നിവേദിച്ചിരുന്ന വസ്തുക്കളും യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലെ ഭണ്ഡാരത്തിലും രാജധാനിയിലും ഉള്ള പൊന്നൊക്കെയും എടുത്തു അരാം രാജാവായ ഹസായേലിന്നു കൊടുത്തു; അങ്ങനെ അവന് യെരൂശലേമിനെ വിട്ടുപോയി.

18. Joash king of Judah countered by gathering up all the sacred memorials--gifts dedicated for holy use by his ancestors, the kings of Judah, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah, along with the holy memorials he himself had received, plus all the gold that he could find in the temple and palace storerooms--and sent it to Hazael king of Aram. Appeased, Hazael went on his way and didn't bother Jerusalem.

19. യോവാശിന്റെ മറ്റുള്ള വൃത്താന്തങ്ങളും അവന് ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും യെഹൂദാരാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ വൃത്താന്തപുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

19. The rest of the life and times of Joash and all that he did are written in The Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.

20. യോവാശിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് മത്സരിച്ചു കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കി സില്ലായിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന വഴിക്കലുള്ള മില്ലോഗൃഹത്തില് വെച്ചു അവനെ കൊന്നു.

20. At the last his palace staff formed a conspiracy and assassinated Joash as he was strolling along the ramp of the fortified outside city wall.

21. ശിമെയാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യോസാഖാര്, ശോമേരിന്റെ മകനായ യെഹോസാബാദ് എന്നീ ഭൃത്യന്മരായിരുന്നു അവനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നതു. ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തില് അവന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടുകൂടെ അവനെ അടക്കം ചെയ്തു; അവന്റെ മകനായ അമസ്യാവു അവന്നു പകരം രാജാവായ്തീര്ന്നു.

21. Jozabad son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer were the assassins. And so Joash died and was buried in the family plot in the City of David. His son Amaziah was king after him.
