1. Joash was seven years old when he became king; he reigned 40 years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah; [she was] from Beer-sheba.

2. Throughout the time of Jehoiada the priest, Joash did what was right in the LORD's sight.

3. യെഹോയാദാ അവന്നു രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാരെ വിവാഹം കഴിപ്പിച്ചു; അവന് പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു.

3. Jehoiada acquired two wives for him, and he was the father of sons and daughters.

4. അനന്തരം യോവാശ് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്പ്പാന് മനസ്സുവെച്ചു.

4. Afterwards, Joash took it to heart to renovate the LORD's temple.

5. So he gathered the priests and Levites and said, 'Go out to the cities of Judah and collect money from all Israel to repair the temple of your God as needed year by year, and do it quickly.' However, the Levites did not hurry.

6. ആകയാല് രാജാവു തലവനായ യെഹോയാദയെ വിളിപ്പിച്ചു അവനോടുസാക്ഷ്യകൂടാരത്തിന്നു യഹോവയുടെ ദാസനായ മോശെ കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന പിരിവു യെഹൂദയില്നിന്നും യെരൂശലേമില്നിന്നും കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് നീ ലേവ്യരോടും യിസ്രായേല്സഭയോടും ആവശ്യപ്പെടാതിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു?

6. So the king called Jehoiada the high [priest] and said, 'Why haven't you required the Levites to bring from Judah and Jerusalem the tax [imposed by] the LORD's servant Moses and the assembly of Israel for the tent of the testimony?

7. ദുഷ്ടസ്ത്രീയായ അഥല്യയുടെ പുത്രന്മാര് ദൈവാലയം പൊളിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു, യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലെ സകലനിവേദിതങ്ങളെയും ബാല്വിഗ്രഹങ്ങള്ക്കു കൊടുത്തുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. For the sons of that wicked Athaliah broke into the LORD's temple and even used the sacred things of the LORD's temple for the Baals.'

8. അങ്ങനെ അവര് രാജകല്പനപ്രകാരം ഒരു പെട്ടകം ഉണ്ടാക്കി യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് പുറത്തുവെച്ചു.

8. At the king's command a chest was made and placed outside the gate of the LORD's temple.

9. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാസനായ മോശെ മരുഭൂമിയില് വെച്ചു യിസ്രായേലിന്മേല് ചുമത്തിയ പിരിവു യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് അവര് യെഹൂദയിലും യെരൂശലേമിലും പരസ്യം ചെയ്തു.

9. Then a proclamation was issued in Judah and Jerusalem that the tax God's servant Moses [imposed] on Israel in the wilderness be brought to the LORD.

10. സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും സര്വ്വ ജനവും സന്തോഷിച്ചു; കാര്യം തീരുംവരെ അവര് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു പെട്ടകത്തില് ഇട്ടു.

10. All the leaders and all the people rejoiced, brought [the tax], and put it in the chest until it was full.

11. ലേവ്യര് പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു രാജാവിന്റെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന സമയം ദ്രവ്യം വളരെ ഉണ്ടെന്നു കണ്ടാല് രാജാവിന്റെ രായസക്കാരനും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ കാര്യസ്ഥനും വന്നു പെട്ടകം ഒഴിക്കയും പിന്നെയും എടുത്തു അതിന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു വെക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. ഇങ്ങനെ അവര് ദിവസംപ്രതി ചെയ്തു ബഹുദ്രവ്യം ശേഖരിച്ചു.

11. Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites to the king's overseers, and when they saw that there was a large amount of money, the king's secretary and the high priest's deputy came and emptied the chest, picked it up, and returned it to its place. They did this daily and gathered the money in abundance.

12. രാജാവും യെഹോയാദയും അതു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് വേല ചെയ്യിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തു; അവര് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്പ്പാന് കല്പണിക്കാരെയും ആശാരികളെയും യഹോവയുടെ ആലയം കേടുപോക്കുവാന് ഇരിമ്പും താമ്രവുംകൊണ്ടു പണിചെയ്യുന്നവരെയും കൂലിക്കു വെച്ചു.

12. Then the king and Jehoiada gave it to those in charge of the labor on the LORD's temple, who were hiring masons and carpenters to renovate the LORD's temple, also blacksmiths and coppersmiths to repair the LORD's temple.

13. അങ്ങനെ പണിക്കാര് വേല ചെയ്തു അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ത്തു ദൈവാലയം യഥാസ്ഥാനത്താക്കി ഉറപ്പിച്ചു.

13. The workmen did their work, and through them the repairs progressed. They restored God's temple to its specifications and reinforced it.

14. പണിതീര്ത്തിട്ടു ശേഷിച്ച ദ്രവ്യം അവര് രാജാവിന്റെയും യെഹോയാദയുടെയും മുമ്പില് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവര് അതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയം വകെക്കു ഉപകരണങ്ങളുണ്ടാക്കി; ശുശ്രൂഷെക്കായും ഹോമയാഗത്തിന്നായുമുള്ള ഉപകരണങ്ങളും തവികളും പൊന്നും വെള്ളിയും കൊണ്ടുള്ള ഉപകരണങ്ങളും തന്നേ; അവര് യെഹോയാദയുടെ കാലത്തൊക്കെയും ഇടവിടാതെ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ഹോമയാഗം അര്പ്പിച്ചുപോന്നു.

14. When they finished, they presented the rest of the money to the king and Jehoiada, who made articles for the LORD's temple with it-- articles for ministry and for making burnt offerings, and ladles and articles of gold and silver. They regularly offered burnt offerings in the LORD's temple throughout Jehoiada's life.

15. യെഹോയാദാ വയോധികനും കാലസമ്പൂര്ണ്ണനുമായി മരിച്ചു; മരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവന്നു നൂറ്റിമുപ്പതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു;

15. Jehoiada died when he was old and full of days; he was 130 years old at his death.

16. അവന് യിസ്രായേലില് ദൈവത്തിന്റെയും അവന്റെ ആലയത്തിന്റെയും കാര്യത്തില് നന്മ ചെയ്തിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവര് അവനെ ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തില് രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് അടക്കം ചെയ്തു.

16. He was buried in the city of David with the kings because he had done [what was] good in Israel with respect to God and His temple.

17. യെഹോയാദാ മരിച്ചശേഷം യെഹൂദാപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് വന്നു രാജാവിനെ വണങ്ങി; രാജാവു അവരുടെ വാക്കു കേട്ടു.

17. However, after Jehoiada died, the rulers of Judah came and paid homage to the king. Then the king listened to them,

18. അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു അശേരാപ്രതിഷ്ഠളെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയും സേവിച്ചു; അവരുടെ ഈ കുറ്റം ഹേതുവായിട്ടു യെഹൂദയുടെമേലും യെരൂശലേമിന്മേലും കോപം വന്നു.

18. and they abandoned the temple of the LORD God of their ancestors and served the Asherah poles and the idols. So there was wrath against Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs.

19. അവരെ യഹോവയിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിച്ചുവരുത്തുവാന് അവന് പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് അയച്ചു; അവര് അവരോടു സാക്ഷീകരിച്ചു; എങ്കിലും അവര് ചെവികൊടുത്തില്ല.

19. Nevertheless, He sent them prophets to bring them back to the LORD; they admonished them, but they would not listen.

20. The Spirit of God took control of Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood above the people and said to them, 'This is what God says: 'Why are you transgressing the LORD's commands and you do not prosper? Because you have abandoned the LORD, He has abandoned you.''

21. But they conspired against him and stoned him at the king's command in the courtyard of the LORD's temple.

22. അങ്ങനെ യോവാശ്രാജാവു അവന്റെ അപ്പനായ യെഹോയാദാ തനിക്കു ചെയ്ത ദയ ഔര്ക്കാതെ അവന്റെ മകനെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; അവന് മരിക്കുമ്പോള്യഹോവ നോക്കി ചോദിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. King Joash didn't remember the kindness that Zechariah's father Jehoiada had extended to him, but killed his son. While he was dying, he said, 'May the LORD see and demand an account.'

23. ആയാണ്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അരാമ്യസൈന്യം അവന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവര് യെഹൂദയിലും യെരൂശലേമിലും വന്നു ജനത്തിന്റെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും ജനത്തിന്റെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നശിപ്പിച്ചു കൊള്ള ഒക്കെയും ദമ്മേശെക്രാജാവിന്നു കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

23. At the turn of the year, an Aramean army went to war against Joash. They entered Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the leaders of the people among them and sent all the plunder to the king of Damascus.

24. അരാമ്യസൈന്യം ആള് ചുരൂക്കമായിട്ടു വന്നിരുന്നെങ്കിലും യഹോവ അവരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏറ്റവും വലിയോരു സൈന്യത്തെ ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നുവല്ലോ. ഇങ്ങനെ യോവാശിനോടു അവര് ന്യായവിധി നടത്തി.

24. Although the Aramean army came with only a few men, the LORD handed over a vast army to them because the people of Judah had abandoned the LORD God of their ancestors. So they executed judgment on Joash.

25. അവര് അവനെ വിട്ടുപോയ ശേഷം--മഹാവ്യാധിയിലായിരുന്നു അവനെ വിട്ടേച്ചുപോയതു--യെഹോയാദാ പുരോഹിതന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെ രക്തംനിമിത്തം അവന്റെ സ്വന്ത ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവന്റെ നേരെ കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കി അവനെ കിടക്കയില് വെച്ചു കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവന് മരിച്ചു; അവനെ ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തില് അടക്കംചെയ്തു; രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളില് അടക്കം ചെയ്തില്ലതാനും.

25. When the Arameans saw that Joash had many wounds, they left him. His servants conspired against him, and killed him on his bed, because he had shed the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest. So he died, and they buried him in the city of David, but they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings.

26. അവന്റെ നേരെ കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കിയവരോ, അമ്മോന്യസ്ത്രീയായ ശിമെയാത്തിന്റെ മകന് സാബാദും മോവാബ്യസ്ത്രീയായ ശിമ്രീത്തിന്റെ മകന് യെഹോസാബാദും തന്നേ.

26. Those who conspired against him were Zabad, son of the Ammonite woman Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of the Moabite woman Shimrith.

27. അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെയും അവന്നു വിരോധമായുള്ള പ്രവചനബാഹുല്യത്തിന്റെയും ദൈവലായം അറ്റകുറ്റം തീര്ത്തതിന്റെയും വൃത്താന്തം രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ ചരിത്രപുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ. അവന്റെ മകനായ അമസ്യാവു അവന്നു പകരം രാജാവായി.

27. Concerning his sons, the many oracles about him, and the restoration of the LORD's temple, they are recorded in the Writing of the Book of the Kings. His son Amaziah became king in his place.
