1. ജനവും അവരുടെ ഭാര്യമാരും യെഹൂദന്മാരായ തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ നേരെ വലിയ നിലവിളി കൂട്ടി

1. Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brothers the Jews.

2. ഞങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രന്മാരും പുത്രിമാരുമായി പലരാകകൊണ്ടു ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഉപജീവനത്തിന്നു ധാന്യം വേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ചിലരും

2. For there were some who said, We, our sons and our daughters, are many: let us get grain, that we may eat and live.

3. ഞങ്ങളുടെ നിലങ്ങളും മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളും വീടുകളും പണയം എഴുതി ഈ ദുര്ഭിക്ഷകാലത്തു ധാന്യം വാങ്ങേണ്ടിവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ചിലരും

3. There were also some who said, We are mortgaging our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses: let us get grain, because of the famine.

4. രാജഭോഗം കൊടുക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞങ്ങള് നിലങ്ങളിന്മേലും മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളിന്മേലും പണം കടംമേടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു;

4. There were also some who said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute [on] our fields and our vineyards.

5. ഇപ്പോഴോ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദേഹം ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ദേഹത്തെപ്പോലെയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ മക്കള് അവരുടെ മക്കളെപ്പോലെയും ആകുന്നുവെങ്കിലും ഞങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും ദാസ്യത്തിന്നു കൊടുക്കേണ്ടിവരുന്നു; ഞങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരില് ചിലര് അടിമപ്പെട്ടു പോയിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വേറെ നിര്വ്വാഹമില്ല; ഞങ്ങളുടെ നിലങ്ങളും മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളും അന്യാധീനമായിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു വേറെ ചിലരും പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our sons as their sons: and, look, we bring into slavery our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters are brought into slavery [already]: neither is it in our power to help it; for other men have our fields and our vineyards.

6. അവരുടെ നിലവിളിയും ഈ വാക്കുകളും കേട്ടപ്പോള് എനിക്കു അതി കോപം വന്നു.

6. And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.

7. ഞാന് എന്റെ മനസ്സുകൊണ്ടു ആലോചിച്ചശേഷം പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും പ്രമാണികളെയും ശാസിച്ചുനിങ്ങള് ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ സഹോദരനോടു പലിശ വാങ്ങുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു. അവര്ക്കും വിരോധമായി ഞാന് ഒരു മഹായോഗം വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി.

7. Then I consulted with myself, and contended with the nobles and the rulers, and said to them, You+ exact usury, every one of his brother. And I held a great assembly against them.

8. ജാതികള്ക്കു വിറ്റിരുന്ന നമ്മുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ യെഹൂദന്മാരെ നമ്മാല് കഴിയുന്നേടത്തോളം നാം വീണ്ടെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങളോ നമ്മുടെ സഹോദരന്മാര് തങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ നമുക്കു വില്പാന്തക്കവണ്ണം അവരെ വീണ്ടും വില്പിപ്പാന് പോകുന്നുവോ എന്നു ഞാന് അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവര് ഒരു വാക്കും പറവാന് കഴിയാതെ മൌനമായിരുന്നു.

8. And I said to them, We after our ability have redeemed our brothers the Jews, who were sold to the nations; and would you+ even sell your+ brothers, and should they be sold to us? Then they held their peace, and never found a word.

9. പിന്നെയും ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞതുനിങ്ങള് ചെയ്യുന്ന കാര്യം നന്നല്ല; നമ്മുടെ ശത്രുക്കളായ ജാതികളുടെ നിന്ദ ഔര്ത്തിട്ടെങ്കിലും നിങ്ങള് നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു നടക്കേണ്ടതല്ലയോ?

9. Also I said, The thing that you+ do is not good: Shouldn't you+ walk in the fear of our God, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?

10. ഞാനും എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും എന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരും അവര്ക്കും ദ്രവ്യവും ധാന്യവും കടം കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു; നാം ഈ പലിശ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചുകളക.

10. And I likewise, my brothers and my attendants, lend them money and grain. I pray you+, let us leave off this usury.

11. നിങ്ങള് ഇന്നു തന്നേ അവരുടെ നിലങ്ങളും മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളും ഒലിവുതോട്ടങ്ങളും വീടുകളും മടക്കിക്കൊടുപ്പിന് ; ദ്രവ്യം, ധാന്യം, വീഞ്ഞ്, എണ്ണ എന്നിവയില് നൂറ്റിന്നു ഒന്നു വീതം നിങ്ങള് അവരോടു വാങ്ങിവരുന്നതും അവര്ക്കും ഇളെച്ചുകൊടുപ്പിന് .

11. Restore, I pray you+, to them, even this day, their fields, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, that you+ exact of them.

12. അതിന്നു അവര്ഞങ്ങള് അവ മടക്കിക്കൊടുക്കാം; ഇനി അവരോടു ഒന്നും ചോദിക്കയുമില്ല; നീ പറയുമ്പോലെ തന്നേ ഞങ്ങള് ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോള് ഞാന് പുരോഹിതന്മാരെ വിളിച്ചു ഈ വാഗ്ദാനപ്രകാരം ചെയ്തുകൊള്ളാമെന്നു അവരുടെ മുമ്പില് വെച്ചു അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു സത്യം ചെയ്യിച്ചു.

12. Then they said, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so we will do, even as you say. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they would do according to this promise.

13. ഞാന് എന്റെ മടി കുടഞ്ഞു; ഈ വാഗ്ദാനം നിവര്ത്തിക്കാത്ത ഏവനെയും അവന്റെ വീട്ടില്നിന്നും അവന്റെ സമ്പാദ്യത്തില്നിന്നും ദൈവം ഇതുപോലെ കുടഞ്ഞുകളയട്ടെ; ഇങ്ങനെ അവന് കുടഞ്ഞും ഒഴിഞ്ഞും പോകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. സര്വ്വസഭയുംആമേന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു യഹോവയെ സ്തുതിച്ചു. ജനം ഈ വാഗ്ദാനപ്രകാരം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു.

13. Also I shook out my lap, and said, So may God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, that does not perform this promise; even thus will he be shaken out, and emptied. And all the assembly said, Amen, and praised Yahweh. And the people did according to this promise.

14. ഞാന് യെഹൂദാദേശത്തു അവരുടെ ദേശാധിപതിയായി നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ട നാള്മുതല് അര്ത്ഥഹ് ശഷ്ടാരാജാവിന്റെ ഇരുപതാം ആണ്ടുമുതല് തന്നേ, അവന്റെ മുപ്പത്തിരണ്ടാം ആണ്ടുവരെ പന്ത്രണ്ടു സംവത്സരം ഞാനും എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും ദേശാധിപതിക്കുള്ള അഹോവൃത്തി വാങ്ങിയില്ല.

14. Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, [that is], twelve years, I and my brothers have not eaten the bread of the governor.

15. എനിക്കു മുമ്പെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പണ്ടത്തെ ദേശാധിപതികള് ജനത്തിന്നു ഭാരമായിരുന്നു; നാല്പതു ശേക്കെല് വെള്ളിവീതം വാങ്ങിയതു കൂടാതെ അപ്പവും വീഞ്ഞും കൂടെ അവരോടു വാങ്ങി; അവരുടെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരും ജനത്തിന്മേല് കര്ത്തൃത്വം നടത്തിവന്നു; ഞാനോ ദൈവഭയം ഹേതുവായി അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തില്ല.

15. But the former governors who were before me were chargeable to the people, and took of them bread and wine, besides forty shekels of silver; yes, even their attendants bore rule over the people: but I did not do so, because of the fear of God.

16. ഞാന് ഈ മതിലിന്റെ വേലയില് തന്നേ ഉറ്റിരുന്നു; ഞങ്ങള് ഒരു നിലവും വിലെക്കു വാങ്ങിയില്ല; എന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് ഒക്കെയും ഈ വേലയില് ചേര്ന്നു പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചുപോന്നു.

16. Yes, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither did we buy any land: and all my attendants were gathered there to the work.

17. യെഹൂദന്മാരും പ്രമാണികളുമായ നൂറ്റമ്പതുപേരല്ലാതെ ചുറ്റുമുള്ള ജാതികളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നവരും എന്റെ മേശെക്കല് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചുപോന്നു.

17. Moreover there were at my table, of the Jews and the rulers, a hundred and fifty men, besides those who came to us from among the nations that were round about us.

18. എനിക്കു ഒരു ദിവസത്തേക്കു ഒരു കാളയെയും വിശേഷമായ ആറു ആടിനെയും പാകം ചെയ്യും; പക്ഷികളെയും പാകം ചെയ്യും. പത്തു ദിവസത്തില് ഒരിക്കല് സകലവിധ വീഞ്ഞും ധാരാളം കൊണ്ടുവരും; ഇങ്ങനെയൊക്കെയും വേണ്ടിയിരുന്നിട്ടും ഈ ജനം പെടുന്ന പാടു കഠിനമായിരുന്നതിനാല് ദേശാധിപതിക്കുള്ള അഹോവൃത്തി ഞാന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടില്ല.

18. Now that which was prepared for one day was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this I did not demand the bread of the governor, because the service was heavy on this people.

19. എന്റെ ദൈവമേ, ഞാന് ഈ ജനത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും എനിക്കു നന്മെക്കായിട്ടു ഔക്കേണമേ.

19. Remember to me, O my God, for good, all that I have done for this people.
