1. അഹശ്വേരോശിന്റെ കാലത്തു--ഹിന്തുദേശംമുതല് കൂശ്വരെ നൂറ്റിരുപത്തേഴു സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങള് വാണ അഹശ്വേരോശ് ഇവന് തന്നേ -

1. And it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus (that is, the Ahasuerus that reigned from India even to Ethiopia, over a hundred and twenty-seven provinces),

2. ആ കാലത്തു അഹശ്വേരോശ് രാജാവു ശൂശന് രാജധാനിയില് തന്റെ രാജാസനത്തിന്മേല് ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള്

2. in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the fortress,

3. തന്റെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ മൂന്നാം ആണ്ടില് തന്റെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്ക്കും ഭൃത്യന്മാര്ക്കും ഒരു വിരുന്നു കഴിച്ചു; പാര്സ്യയിലെയും മേദ്യയിലെയും സേനാധിപന്മാരും പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും സംസ്ഥാനപതികളും അവന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

3. in the third year of his reign, he made a feast to all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and the princes of the provinces being before him;

4. അന്നു അവന് തന്റെ രാജകീയമഹത്വത്തിന്റെ ഐശ്വര്യവും തന്റെ മഹിമാധിക്യത്തിന്റെ പ്രതാപവും ഏറിയനാള്, നൂറ്റെണ്പതു ദിവസത്തോളം തന്നേ, കാണിച്ചു.

4. when he shewed the glorious wealth of his kingdom and the splendid magnificence of his grandeur many days, a hundred and eighty days.

5. ആ നാളുകള് കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം രാജാവു ശൂശന് രാജധാനിയില് കൂടിയിരുന്ന വലിയവരും ചെറിയവരുമായ സകലജനത്തിന്നും രാജധാനിയുടെ ഉദ്യാനപ്രാകാരത്തില്വെച്ചു ഏഴുദിവസം വിരുന്നു കഴിച്ചു.

5. And when these days were expired, the king made a feast to all the people that were present in Shushan the fortress, both to great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace.

6. അവിടെ വെണ്കല് തൂണുകളിന്മേല് വെള്ളിവളയങ്ങളില് ശണനൂലും ധൂമ്രനൂലുംകൊണ്ടുള്ള ചരടുകളാല് വെള്ളയും പച്ചയും നീലയുമായ ശീലകള് തൂക്കിയിരുന്നു; ചുവന്നതും വെളുത്തതും മഞ്ഞയും കറുത്തതുമായ മര്മ്മരക്കല്ലു പടുത്തിരുന്ന തളത്തില് പൊന് കസവും വെള്ളിക്കസവുമുള്ള മെത്തകള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

6. White, green, and blue [hangings] were fastened with cords of byssus and purple to silver rings and pillars of white marble; couches of gold and silver [lay] upon a pavement of red and white marble, and alabaster, and black marble.

7. വിവിധാകൃതിയിലുള്ള പൊന് പാത്രങ്ങളിലായിരുന്നു അവര്ക്കും കുടിപ്പാന് കൊടുത്തതു; രാജവീഞ്ഞും രാജപദവിക്കു ഒത്തവണ്ണം ധാരാളം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

7. And they gave drink in vessels of gold (the vessels being diverse one from another), and royal wine in abundance, according to the king's bounty.

8. എന്നാല് രാജാവു തന്റെ രാജധാനിവിചാരകന്മാരോടുആരെയും നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിക്കരുതു; ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ മനസ്സുപോലെ ചെയ്തുകൊള്ളട്ടെ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചിരുന്നതിനാല് പാനം ചട്ടംപോലെ ആയിരുന്നു.

8. And the drinking was, according to commandment, without constraint; for so the king had appointed to all the magnates of his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure.

9. രാജ്ഞിയായ വസ്ഥിയും അഹശ്വേരോശ്രാജാവിന്റെ രാജധാനിയില്വെച്ചു സ്ത്രീകള്ക്കു ഒരു വിരുന്നു കഴിച്ചു.

9. Also the queen Vashti made a feast for the women of the royal house which belonged to king Ahasuerus.

11. ഏഴു ഷണ്ഡന്മാരോടു ജനങ്ങള്ക്കും പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്ക്കും വസ്ഥിരാജ്ഞിയുടെ സൌന്ദര്യം കാണിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവളെ രാജകിരീടം ധരിപ്പിച്ചു രാജസന്നിധിയില് കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് കല്പിച്ചു; അവള് സുമുഖിയായിരുന്നു.

11. to bring Vashti the queen before the king with the royal crown to shew the peoples and the princes her beauty; for she was of beautiful countenance.

12. എന്നാല് ഷണ്ഡന്മാര്മുഖാന്തരം അയച്ച രാജകല്പന മറുത്തു വസ്ഥിരാജ്ഞി ചെല്ലാതിരുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ടു രാജാവു ഏറ്റവും കോപിച്ചു; അവന്റെ കോപം അവന്റെ ഉള്ളില് ജ്വലിച്ചു.

12. But the queen Vashti refused to come at the word of the king which was [sent] by the chamberlains; and the king was very wroth, and his fury burned in him.

13. ആ സമയത്തു രാജമുഖം കാണുന്നവരും രാജ്യത്തു പ്രധാനസ്ഥാനങ്ങളില് ഇരിക്കുന്നവരുമായ കെര്ശനാ, ശേഥാര്, അദ്മാഥാ, തര്ശീശ്, മേരെസ്, മര്സെനാ, മെമൂഖാന് എന്നിങ്ങനെ പാര്സ്യയിലെയും മേദ്യയിലെയും ഏഴു പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് അവനോടു അടുത്തു ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു.

13. And the king said to the wise men who knew the times (for so was the king's business [conducted] before all that knew law and judgment;

14. രാജ്യധര്മ്മത്തിലും ന്യായത്തിലും പരിജ്ഞാനികളായ എല്ലാവരോടും ആലോചിക്കുക പതിവായിരുന്നതിനാല് കാലജ്ഞന്മാരായ ആ വിദ്വാന്മാരോടു രാജാവു

14. and the next to him were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, [and] Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who saw the king's face, and who sat first in the kingdom),

15. ഷണ്ഡന്മാര്മുഖാന്തരം അഹശ്വേരോശ്രാജാവു അയച്ച കല്പന വസ്ഥിരാജ്ഞി അനുസരിക്കായ്കകൊണ്ടു രാജ്യധര്മ്മപ്രകാരം അവളോടു ചെയ്യേണ്ടതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

15. What shall be done to the queen Vashti according to law, because she has not performed the word of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?

16. അതിന്നു മെമൂഖാന് രാജാവിനോടും പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്വസ്ഥിരാജ്ഞി രാജാവിനോടു മാത്രമല്ല, അഹശ്വേരോശ്രാജാവിന്റെ സര്വ്വസംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലുള്ള സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും ജാതികളോടും അന്യായം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

16. Then said Memucan before the king and the princes, The queen Vashti has not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the peoples that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus.

17. രാജ്ഞിയുടെ ഈ പ്രവൃത്തി സകലസ്ത്രീകളും അറിയും; അഹശ്വേരോശ്രാജാവു വസ്ഥിരാജ്ഞിയെ തന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് കല്പിച്ചയച്ചാറെ അവള് ചെന്നില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ ഭര്ത്താക്കന്മാരെ നിന്ദിക്കും.

17. For the act of the queen will come abroad to all women, so as to render their husbands contemptible in their eyes, when they shall say, The king Ahasuerus commanded the queen Vashti to be brought in before him, and she came not!

18. ഇന്നു തന്നെ രാജ്ഞിയുടെ പ്രവൃത്തി കേട്ട പാര്സ്യയിലെയും മേദ്യയിലെയും പ്രഭുപത്നിമാര് രാജാവിന്റെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ പറയും; ഇങ്ങനെ നിന്ദയും നീരസവും അധികരിക്കും.

18. And the princesses of Persia and Media who have heard of the queen's act, will say it this day to all the king's princes, and there will be contempt and anger enough.

19. രാജാവിന്നു സമ്മതമെങ്കില് വസ്ഥി ഇനി അഹശ്വേരോശ്രാജാവിന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് വരരുതു എന്നു തിരുമുമ്പില്നിന്നു ഒരു രാജകല്പന പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കയും അതു മാറ്റിക്കൂടാതവണ്ണം പാര്സ്യരുടെയും മേദ്യരുടെയും രാജ്യധര്മ്മത്തില് എഴുതിക്കയും രാജാവു അവളുടെ രാജ്ഞിസ്ഥാനം അവളെക്കാള് നല്ലവളായ മറ്റൊരുത്തിക്കു കൊടുക്കയും വേണം.

19. If it please the king, let a royal order go forth from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it may not pass, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate to another that is better than she;

20. രാജാവു കല്പിക്കുന്ന വിധി രാജ്യത്തെല്ലാടവും--അതു മഹാരാജ്യമല്ലോ--പരസ്യമാകുമ്പോള് സകലഭാര്യമാരും വലിയവരോ ചെറിയവരോ ആയ തങ്ങളുടെ ഭര്ത്താക്കന്മാരെ ബഹുമാനിക്കും.

20. and when the king's edict which he shall make shall be heard throughout his realm -- for it is great -- all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, from the greatest to the least.

21. ഈ വാക്കു രാജാവിന്നും പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്ക്കും ബോധിച്ചു; രാജാവു മെമൂഖാന്റെ വാക്കുപോലെ ചെയ്തു.

21. And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did according to the word of Memucan.

22. ഏതു പുരുഷനും തന്റെ വീട്ടില് കര്ത്തവ്യം നടത്തുകയും സ്വഭാഷ സംസാരിക്കയും വേണമെന്നു രാജാവു തന്റെ സകലസംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലേക്കും അതതു സംസ്ഥാനത്തേക്കു അതതിന്റെ അക്ഷരത്തിലും അതതു ജാതിക്കു അവരവരുടെ ഭാഷയിലും എഴുത്തു അയച്ചു.

22. And he sent letters into all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people according to their language, That every man should bear rule in his own house, and should speak according to the language of his people.
