1. സ്ത്രീ പ്രസവിച്ച മനുഷ്യന് അല്പായുസ്സുള്ളവനും കഷ്ടസമ്പൂര്ണ്ണനും ആകുന്നു.

7. ഒരു വൃക്ഷമായിരുന്നാല് പ്രത്യാശയുണ്ടു; അതിനെ വെട്ടിയാല് പിന്നെയും പൊട്ടി കിളുര്ക്കും; അതു ഇളങ്കൊമ്പുകള് വിടാതിരിക്കയില്ല.

7. 'For a tree, there is hope that if cut down, it will sprout again, that its shoots will continue to grow.

8. അതിന്റെ വേര് നിലത്തു പഴകിയാലും അതിന്റെ കുറ്റി മണ്ണില് കെട്ടുപോയാലും

8. Even if its roots grow old in the earth and its stump dies in the ground,

9. വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ ഗന്ധംകൊണ്ടു അതു കിളുര്ക്കും ഒരു തൈപോലെ തളിര് വിടും.

9. yet at the scent of water it will bud and put forth branches like a young plant.

10. പുരുഷനോ മരിച്ചാല് ദ്രവിച്ചുപോകുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് പ്രാണനെ വിട്ടാല് പിന്നെ അവന് എവിടെ?

10. But when a human being grows weak and dies, he expires; and then where is he?

11. സമുദ്രത്തിലെ വെള്ളം പോയ്പോകുമ്പോലെയും ആറു വറ്റി ഉണങ്ങിപ്പോകുമ്പോലെയും

11. Just as water in a lake disappears, as a river shrinks and dries up;

12. മനുഷ്യന് കിടന്നിട്ടു എഴുന്നേലക്കുന്നില്ല; ആകാശം ഇല്ലാതെയാകുംവരെ അവര് ഉണരുന്നില്ല; ഉറക്കത്തില്നിന്നു ജാഗരിക്കുന്നതുമില്ല;

12. so a person lies down and doesn't arise- until the sky no longer exists; it will not awaken, it won't be roused from its sleep.

13. നീ എന്നെ പാതാളത്തില് മറെച്ചുവെക്കയും നിന്റെ കോപം കഴിയുവോളം എന്നെ ഒളിപ്പിക്കയും എനിക്കു ഒരവധി നിശ്ചയിച്ചു എന്നെ ഔര്ക്കുംകയും ചെയ്തുവെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു.

13. 'I wish you would hide me in Sh'ol, conceal me until your anger has passed, then fix a time and remember me!

14. മനുഷ്യന് മരിച്ചാല് വീണ്ടും ജീവിക്കുമോ? എന്നാല് എനിക്കു മാറ്റം വരുവോളം എന്റെ യുദ്ധകാലമൊക്കെയും കാത്തിരിക്കാമായിരുന്നു.

14. If a man dies, will he live again? I will wait all the days of my life for my change to come.

15. നീ വിളിക്കും; ഞാന് നിന്നോടു ഉത്തരം പറയും; നിന്റെ കൈവേലയോടു നിനക്കു താല്പര്യമുണ്ടാകും.

15. You will call, and I will answer you; you will long to see what you made again.

16. ഇപ്പോഴോ നീ എന്റെ കാലടികളെ എണ്ണുന്നു; എന്റെ പാപത്തിന്മേല് നീ ദൃഷ്ടിവെക്കുന്നില്ലയോ?

16. Whereas now you count each step of mine, then you will not keep watch for my sin.

17. എന്റെ അതിക്രമം ഒരു സഞ്ചിയിലാക്കി മുദ്രയിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ അകൃത്യം നീ കെട്ടി പറ്റിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

17. You will seal up my crime in a bag and cover over my iniquity.

18. മലപോലും വീണു പൊടിയുന്നു; പാറയും സ്ഥലം വിട്ടു മാറിപ്പോകുന്നു.

18. 'Just as a mountain erodes and falls away, its rock is removed from its place,

19. വെള്ളം കല്ലുകളെ തേയുമാറാക്കുന്നതും അതിന്റെ പ്രവാഹം നിലത്തെ പൊടിയെ ഒഴുക്കിക്കളയുന്നതുംപോലെ നീ മനുഷ്യന്റെ പ്രത്യാശയെ നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു

19. the water wears away its stones, and the floods wash away its soil, so you destroy a person's hope.

20. നീ എപ്പോഴും അവനെ ആക്രമിച്ചിട്ടു അവന് കടന്നുപോകുന്നു; നീ അവന്റെ മുഖം വിരൂപമാക്കി അവനെ അയച്ചുകളയുന്നു.

20. You overpower him, and he passes on; you change his appearance and send him away.

21. അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര്ക്കും ബഹുമാനം ലഭിക്കുന്നതു അവന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; അവര്ക്കും താഴ്ച ഭവിക്കുന്നതു അവന് ഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതുമില്ല.

21. His children earn honor, but he doesn't know it; or they are brought low, but he doesn't notice.

22. തന്നെപ്പറ്റി മാത്രം അവന്റെ ദേഹം വേദനപ്പെടുന്നു; തന്നെക്കുറിച്ചത്രേ അവന്റെ ഉള്ളം ദുഃഖിക്കുന്നു.

22. He feels pain only for his own flesh; he laments only for himself.'
