1. അനന്തരം ഇയ്യോബ് വായി തുറന്നു തന്റെ ജന്മദിവസത്തെ ശപിച്ചു.

1. In the end it was Job who broke the silence and cursed the day of his birth.

2. ഇയ്യോബ് പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

2. This is what he said:

3. ഞാന് ജനിച്ച ദിവസവും ഒരു ആണ് ഉല്പാദിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ രാത്രിയും നശിച്ചുപോകട്ടെ.

3. Perish the day on which I was born and the night that told of a boy conceived.

4. ആ നാള് ഇരുണ്ടുപോകട്ടെ; മേലില്നിന്നു ദൈവം അതിനെ കടാക്ഷിക്കരുതേ; പ്രകാശം അതിന്മേല് ശോഭിക്കയുമരുതേ.

4. May that day be darkness, may God on high have no thought for it, may no light shine on it.

5. ഇരുളും അന്ധതമസ്സും അതിനെ സ്വാധീനമാക്കട്ടെ; ഒരു മേഘം അതിന്മേല് അമരട്ടെ; പകലിനെ ഇരുട്ടുന്നതൊക്കെയും അതിനെ പേടിപ്പിക്കട്ടെ.

5. May murk and shadow dark as death claim it for their own, clouds hang over it, eclipse swoop down on it.

6. ആ രാത്രിയെ കൂരിരുള് പിടിക്കട്ടെ; അതു ആണ്ടിന്റെ നാളുകളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് സന്തോഷിക്കരുതു; മാസങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണത്തില് വരികയും അരുതു.

6. See! Let obscurity seize on it, from the days of the year let it be excluded, into the reckoning of the months not find its way.

7. അതേ, ആ രാത്രി മച്ചിയായിരിക്കട്ടെ; ഉല്ലാസഘോഷം അതിലുണ്ടാകരുതു.

7. And may that night be sterile, devoid of any cries of joy!

8. മഹാസര്പ്പത്തെ ഇളക്കുവാന് സമര്ത്ഥരായി ദിവസത്തെ ശപിക്കുന്നവര് അതിനെ ശപിക്കട്ടെ.

8. Let it be cursed by those who curse certain days and are ready to rouse Leviathan.

9. അതിന്റെ സന്ധ്യാനക്ഷത്രങ്ങള് ഇരുണ്ടു പോകട്ടെ. അതു വെളിച്ചത്തിന്നു കാത്തിരുന്നു കിട്ടാതെ പോകട്ടെ; അതു ഉഷസ്സിന്റെ കണ്ണിമ ഒരിക്കലും കാണരുതു.

9. Dark be the stars of its morning, let it wait in vain for light and never see the opening eyes of dawn.

10. അതു എനിക്കു ഗര്ഭദ്വാരം അടെച്ചില്ലല്ലോ; എന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു കഷ്ടം മറെച്ചില്ലല്ലോ.

10. Since it would not shut the doors of the womb on me to hide sorrow from my eyes.

11. ഞാന് ഗര്ഭപാത്രത്തില്വെച്ചു മരിക്കാഞ്ഞതെന്തു? ഉദരത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള് തന്നേ പ്രാണന് പോകാതിരുന്നതെന്തു?

11. Why was I not still-born, or why did I not perish as I left the womb?

12. മുഴങ്കാല് എന്നെ ഏറ്റുകൊണ്ടതു എന്തിനു? എനിക്കു കുടിപ്പാന് മുല ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതെന്തിന്നു?

12. Why were there knees to receive me, breasts for me to suck?

13. ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് കിടന്നു വിശ്രമിക്കുമായിരുന്നു; ഞാന് ഉറങ്ങി വിശ്രാന്തി പ്രാപിക്കുമായിരുന്നു.

13. Now I should be lying in peace, wrapped in a restful slumber,

14. തങ്ങള്ക്കു ഏകാന്തനിവാസങ്ങള് പണിത ഭൂരാജാക്കന്മാരോടും മന്ത്രിമാരോടും അഥവാ,

14. with the kings and high viziers of earth who have built their dwellings in desolate places,

15. കനകസമ്പന്നരായി സ്വഭവനങ്ങള് വെള്ളികൊണ്ടു നിറെച്ചുവെച്ച പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും കൂടെ തന്നേ.

15. or with princes who have quantities of gold and silver cramming their tombs;

16. അല്ലെങ്കില്, ഗര്ഭം അലസിപ്പോയിട്ടു കുഴിച്ചിട്ടുകളഞ്ഞ പിണ്ഡംപോലെയും വെളിച്ചം കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്ത പിള്ളകളെപ്പോലെയും ഞാന് ഇല്ലാതെ പോകുമായിരുന്നു.

16. or, put away like an abortive child, I should not have existed, like little ones that never see the light.

17. അവിടെ ദുര്ജ്ജനം ഉപദ്രവിക്കാതെയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവിടെ ക്ഷീണിച്ചു പോയവര് വിശ്രമിക്കുന്നു.

17. Down there, the wicked bustle no more, there the weary rest.

18. അവിടെ ബദ്ധന്മാര് ഒരുപോലെ സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നു; പീഡകന്റെ ശബ്ദം അവര് കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. Prisoners, all left in peace, hear no more the shouts of the oppressor.

19. ചെറിയവനും വലിയവനും അവിടെ ഒരുപോലെ; ദാസന്നു യജമാനന്റെ കീഴില്നിന്നു വിടുതല് കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. High and low are there together, and the slave is free of his master.

20. അരിഷ്ടനു പ്രകാശവും ദുഃഖിതന്മാര്ക്കും ജീവനും കൊടുക്കുന്നതെന്തിനു?

20. Why give light to a man of grief? Why give life to those bitter of heart,

21. അവര് മരണത്തിന്നായി കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നു, അതു വരുന്നില്ലതാനും; നിധിക്കായി ചെയ്യുന്നതിലുമധികം അവര് അതിന്നായി കുഴിക്കുന്നു.

21. who long for a death that never comes, and hunt for it more than for buried treasure?

22. അവര് ശവകൂഴി കണ്ടാല് സന്തോഷിച്ചു ഘോഷിച്ചുല്ലസിക്കും

22. They would be glad to see the grave-mound and shout with joy if they reached the tomb.

23. വഴി മറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന പുരുഷന്നും ദൈവം നിരോധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവന്നും ജീവനെ കൊടുക്കുന്നതെന്തിനു?

23. Why give light to one who does not see his way, whom God shuts in all alone?

24. ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ എനിക്കു നെടുവീര്പ്പു വരുന്നു; എന്റെ ഞരക്കം വെള്ളംപോലെ ഒഴുകുന്നു.

24. My only food is sighs, and my groans pour out like water.

25. ഞാന് പേടിച്ചതു തന്നേ എനിക്കു നേരിട്ടു; ഞാന് ഭയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നതു എനിക്കു ഭവിച്ചു.

25. Whatever I fear comes true, whatever I dread befalls me.

26. ഞാന് സ്വസ്ഥനായില്ല, വിശ്രമിച്ചില്ല, ആശ്വസിച്ചതുമില്ല; പിന്നെയും അതിവേദന എടുക്കുന്നു.

26. For me, there is no calm, no peace; my torments banish rest.
