1. അനന്തരം ഇയ്യോബ് വായി തുറന്നു തന്റെ ജന്മദിവസത്തെ ശപിച്ചു.

1. After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed the day [of his birth],

2. ഇയ്യോബ് പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

2. saying,

3. ഞാന് ജനിച്ച ദിവസവും ഒരു ആണ് ഉല്പാദിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ രാത്രിയും നശിച്ചുപോകട്ടെ.

3. Let the day perish in which I was born, and that night in which they said, Behold a male child!

4. ആ നാള് ഇരുണ്ടുപോകട്ടെ; മേലില്നിന്നു ദൈവം അതിനെ കടാക്ഷിക്കരുതേ; പ്രകാശം അതിന്മേല് ശോഭിക്കയുമരുതേ.

4. Let that night be darkness, and let not the Lord regard it from above, neither let light come upon it.

5. ഇരുളും അന്ധതമസ്സും അതിനെ സ്വാധീനമാക്കട്ടെ; ഒരു മേഘം അതിന്മേല് അമരട്ടെ; പകലിനെ ഇരുട്ടുന്നതൊക്കെയും അതിനെ പേടിപ്പിക്കട്ടെ.

5. But let darkness and the shadow of death seize it; let blackness come upon it.

6. ആ രാത്രിയെ കൂരിരുള് പിടിക്കട്ടെ; അതു ആണ്ടിന്റെ നാളുകളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് സന്തോഷിക്കരുതു; മാസങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണത്തില് വരികയും അരുതു.

6. Let that day and night be cursed, let darkness carry them away; let it not come into the days of the year, neither let it be numbered with the days of the months.

7. അതേ, ആ രാത്രി മച്ചിയായിരിക്കട്ടെ; ഉല്ലാസഘോഷം അതിലുണ്ടാകരുതു.

7. But let that night be pain, and let not mirth come upon it, nor joy.

8. മഹാസര്പ്പത്തെ ഇളക്കുവാന് സമര്ത്ഥരായി ദിവസത്തെ ശപിക്കുന്നവര് അതിനെ ശപിക്കട്ടെ.

8. But let him that curses that day curse it, even he that is ready to attack the Great Whale.

9. അതിന്റെ സന്ധ്യാനക്ഷത്രങ്ങള് ഇരുണ്ടു പോകട്ടെ. അതു വെളിച്ചത്തിന്നു കാത്തിരുന്നു കിട്ടാതെ പോകട്ടെ; അതു ഉഷസ്സിന്റെ കണ്ണിമ ഒരിക്കലും കാണരുതു.

9. Let the stars of that night be darkened; let it remain [dark], and not come into light; and let it not see the morning star arise:

10. അതു എനിക്കു ഗര്ഭദ്വാരം അടെച്ചില്ലല്ലോ; എന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു കഷ്ടം മറെച്ചില്ലല്ലോ.

10. because it shut not up the gates of my mother's womb, for so it would have removed sorrow from my eyes.

11. ഞാന് ഗര്ഭപാത്രത്തില്വെച്ചു മരിക്കാഞ്ഞതെന്തു? ഉദരത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള് തന്നേ പ്രാണന് പോകാതിരുന്നതെന്തു?

11. For why did I not die in the belly? And why did I not come forth from the womb and die immediately?

12. മുഴങ്കാല് എന്നെ ഏറ്റുകൊണ്ടതു എന്തിനു? എനിക്കു കുടിപ്പാന് മുല ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതെന്തിന്നു?

12. And why did the knees support me? And [why] did I suck the breasts?

13. ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് കിടന്നു വിശ്രമിക്കുമായിരുന്നു; ഞാന് ഉറങ്ങി വിശ്രാന്തി പ്രാപിക്കുമായിരുന്നു.

13. Now I should have lain down and been quiet, I should have slept and been at rest,

14. തങ്ങള്ക്കു ഏകാന്തനിവാസങ്ങള് പണിത ഭൂരാജാക്കന്മാരോടും മന്ത്രിമാരോടും അഥവാ,

14. with kings and counselors of the earth, who gloried in [their] swords;

15. കനകസമ്പന്നരായി സ്വഭവനങ്ങള് വെള്ളികൊണ്ടു നിറെച്ചുവെച്ച പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും കൂടെ തന്നേ.

15. or with rulers, whose gold was abundant, who filled their houses with silver:

16. അല്ലെങ്കില്, ഗര്ഭം അലസിപ്പോയിട്ടു കുഴിച്ചിട്ടുകളഞ്ഞ പിണ്ഡംപോലെയും വെളിച്ചം കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്ത പിള്ളകളെപ്പോലെയും ഞാന് ഇല്ലാതെ പോകുമായിരുന്നു.

16. or I [should have been] as an untimely birth proceeding from his mother's womb, or as infants who never saw light.

17. അവിടെ ദുര്ജ്ജനം ഉപദ്രവിക്കാതെയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവിടെ ക്ഷീണിച്ചു പോയവര് വിശ്രമിക്കുന്നു.

17. There the ungodly have burnt out the fury of rage; there the wearied in body rest.

18. അവിടെ ബദ്ധന്മാര് ഒരുപോലെ സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നു; പീഡകന്റെ ശബ്ദം അവര് കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. And the men of old time have together ceased to hear the voice of the oppressor.

19. ചെറിയവനും വലിയവനും അവിടെ ഒരുപോലെ; ദാസന്നു യജമാനന്റെ കീഴില്നിന്നു വിടുതല് കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. The small and great are there, and the servant that feared his lord.

20. അരിഷ്ടനു പ്രകാശവും ദുഃഖിതന്മാര്ക്കും ജീവനും കൊടുക്കുന്നതെന്തിനു?

20. For why is light given to those who are in bitterness, and life to those souls which are in grief?

21. അവര് മരണത്തിന്നായി കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നു, അതു വരുന്നില്ലതാനും; നിധിക്കായി ചെയ്യുന്നതിലുമധികം അവര് അതിന്നായി കുഴിക്കുന്നു.

21. Who desire death, and obtain it not, digging [for it] as [for] treasures;

22. അവര് ശവകൂഴി കണ്ടാല് സന്തോഷിച്ചു ഘോഷിച്ചുല്ലസിക്കും

22. and would be very joyful if they should gain it?

23. വഴി മറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന പുരുഷന്നും ദൈവം നിരോധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവന്നും ജീവനെ കൊടുക്കുന്നതെന്തിനു?

23. Death is rest to such a man, for God has hedged him in.

24. ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ എനിക്കു നെടുവീര്പ്പു വരുന്നു; എന്റെ ഞരക്കം വെള്ളംപോലെ ഒഴുകുന്നു.

24. For my groaning comes before my food, and I weep, being beset with terror.

25. ഞാന് പേടിച്ചതു തന്നേ എനിക്കു നേരിട്ടു; ഞാന് ഭയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നതു എനിക്കു ഭവിച്ചു.

25. For the terror of which I meditated has come upon me, and that which I had feared has befallen me.

26. ഞാന് സ്വസ്ഥനായില്ല, വിശ്രമിച്ചില്ല, ആശ്വസിച്ചതുമില്ല; പിന്നെയും അതിവേദന എടുക്കുന്നു.

26. I was not at peace, nor quiet, nor had I rest; yet wrath came upon me.
