1. അതിന്നു തേമാന്യനായ എലീഫസ് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

1. Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:

2. നിന്നോടു സംസാരിപ്പാന് തുനിഞ്ഞാല് നീ മുഷിയുമോ? എന്നാല് വാക്കടക്കുവാന് ആര്ക്കും കഴിയും?

2. Should anyone try to speak with you when you are exhausted? Yet who can keep from speaking?

3. നീ പലരേയും ഉപദേശിച്ചു തളര്ന്ന കൈകളെ ശക്തീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

3. Look! You have instructed many and have strengthened weak hands.

4. വീഴുന്നവനെ നിന്റെ വാക്കു താങ്ങി കുഴയുന്ന മുഴങ്കാല് നീ ഉറപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

4. Your words have steadied the one who was stumbling, and braced the knees that were buckling.

5. ഇപ്പോള് നിനക്കതു ഭവിച്ചിട്ടു നീ വിഷാദിക്കുന്നു; നിനക്കതു തട്ടീട്ടു നീ ഭ്രമിച്ചുപോകുന്നു.

5. But now that this has happened to you, you have become exhausted. It strikes you, and you are dismayed.

6. നിന്റെ ഭക്തി നിന്റെ ആശ്രയമല്ലയോ? നിന്റെ നടപ്പിന്റെ നിര്മ്മലത നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശയല്ലയോ?

6. Isn't your piety your confidence, and the integrity of your life your hope?

7. ഔര്ത്തു നോക്കുകനിര്ദ്ദോഷിയായി നശിച്ചവന് ആര്? നേരുള്ളവര് എവിടെ മുടിഞ്ഞുപോയിട്ടുള്ളു?

7. Consider: who has perished when he was innocent? Where have the honest been destroyed?

8. ഞാന് കണ്ടേടത്തോളം അന്യായം ഉഴുതു കഷ്ടത വിതെക്കുന്നവര് അതു തന്നേ കൊയ്യുന്നു.

8. In my experience, those who plow injustice and those who sow trouble reap the same.

9. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ശ്വാസത്താല് അവര് നശിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ കോപത്തിന്റെ ഊത്തിനാല് മുടിഞ്ഞുപോകുന്നു.

9. They perish at a [single] blast from God and come to an end by the breath of His nostrils.

10. സിംഹത്തിന്റെ ഗര്ജ്ജനവും കേസരിയുടെ നാദവും ബാലസിംഹങ്ങളുടെ ദന്തങ്ങളും അറ്റുപോയി.

10. The lion may roar and the fierce lion growl, but the fangs of young lions are broken.

11. സിംഹം ഇരയില്ലായ്കയാല് നശിക്കുന്നു; സിംഹിയുടെ കുട്ടികള് ചിതറിപ്പോകുന്നു;

11. The strong lion dies if [it catches] no prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.

12. എന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഒരു ഗൂഢവചനം എത്തി; അതിന്റെ മന്ദസ്വരം എന്റെ ചെവിയില് കടന്നു.

12. A word was brought to me in secret; my ears caught a whisper of it.

13. മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും ഗാഢനിദ്ര പിടിക്കുന്നേരം രാത്രിദര്ശനങ്ങളാലുള്ള മനോഭാവനകളില് ഭയവും നടുക്കവും എന്നെ പിടിച്ചു.

13. Among unsettling thoughts from visions in the night, when deep sleep descends on men,

14. എന്റെ അസ്ഥികള് ഒക്കെയും കുലുങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

14. fear and trembling came over me and made all my bones shake.

15. ഒരാത്മാവു എന്റെ മുഖത്തിന്നെതിരെ കടന്നു എന്റെ ദേഹത്തിന്നു രോമഹര്ഷം ഭവിച്ചു.

15. A wind passed by me, and I shuddered with fear.

16. ഒരു പ്രതിമ എന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നെതിരെ നിന്നു; എങ്കിലും അതിന്റെ രൂപം ഞാന് തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞില്ല; മന്ദമായോരു സ്വരം ഞാന് കേട്ടതെന്തെന്നാല്

16. [A figure] stood there, but I could not recognize its appearance; a form loomed before my eyes. I heard a quiet voice:

17. മര്ത്യന് ദൈവത്തിലും നീതിമാന് ആകുമോ? നരന് സ്രഷ്ടാവിലും നിര്മ്മലനാകുമോ?

17. 'Can a person be more righteous than God, or a man more pure than his Maker?'

18. ഇതാ, സ്വദാസന്മാരിലും അവന്നു വിശ്വാസമില്ല; തന്റെ ദൂതന്മാരിലും അവന് കുറ്റം ആരോപിക്കുന്നു.

18. If God puts no trust in His servants and He charges His angels with foolishness,

19. പൊടിയില്നിന്നുത്ഭവിച്ചു മണ്പുരകളില് പാര്ത്തു പുഴുപോലെ ചതെഞ്ഞു പോകുന്നവരില് എത്ര അധികം!

19. how much more those who dwell in clay houses, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed like a moth!

20. ഉഷസ്സിന്നും സന്ധ്യെക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ അവര് തകര്ന്നു പോകുന്നു; ആരും ഗണ്യമാക്കാതെ അവര് എന്നേക്കും നശിക്കുന്നു.

20. They are smashed to pieces from dawn to dusk; they perish forever while no one notices.

21. അവരുടെ കൂടാരക്കയറു അറ്റുപോയിട്ടു അവര് ജ്ഞാനഹീനരായി മരിക്കുന്നില്ലയോ?

21. Are their tent cords not pulled up? They die without wisdom.
