2. മൂപ്പന്മാരേ, ഇതുകേള്പ്പിന് ; ദേശത്തിലെ സകലനിവാസികളുമായുള്ളോരേ, ചെവിക്കൊള്വിന് ; നിങ്ങളുടെ കാലത്തോ നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ കാലത്തോ ഇങ്ങനെ സംഭവിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ?

2. Hear this, you aged men, give ear, all inhabitants of the land! Has such a thing happened in your days, or in the days of your fathers?

3. Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

4. What the cutting locust left, the swarming locust has eaten. What the swarming locust left, the hopping locust has eaten, and what the hopping locust left, the destroying locust has eaten.

5. മദ്യപന്മാരേ, ഉണര്ന്നു കരവിന് ; വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കുന്ന ഏവരുമായുള്ളോരേ, പുതുവീഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങളുടെ വായക്കു അറ്റുപോയിരിക്കയാല് മുറയിടുവിന് .

5. Awake, you drunkards, and weep; and wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine, for it is cut off from your mouth.

6. For a nation has come up against my land, powerful and without number; its teeth are lions' teeth, and it has the fangs of a lioness.

7. It has laid waste my vines, and splintered my fig trees; it has stripped off their bark and thrown it down; their branches are made white.

8. Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the bridegroom of her youth.

9. ഭോജനയാഗവും പാനീയയാഗവും യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില്നിന്നു അറ്റുപോയിരിക്കുന്നു; യഹോവയുടെ ശുശ്രൂഷകന്മാരായ പുരോഹിതന്മാര് ദുഃഖിക്കുന്നു.

9. The cereal offering and the drink offering are cut off from the house of the LORD. The priests mourn, the ministers of the LORD.

10. വയല് ശൂന്യമായ്തീര്ന്നു ധാന്യം നശിച്ചും പുതുവീഞ്ഞു വറ്റിയും എണ്ണ ക്ഷയിച്ചും പോയിരിക്കയാല് ദേശം ദുഃഖിക്കുന്നു.

10. The fields are laid waste, the ground mourns; because the grain is destroyed, the wine fails, the oil languishes.

11. കൃഷിക്കാരേ, ലജ്ജിപ്പിന് ; മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടക്കാരേ, കോതമ്പിനെയും യവത്തെയും ചൊല്ലി മുറയിടുവിന് ; വയലിലെ വിളവു നശിച്ചുപോയല്ലോ.

11. Be confounded, O tillers of the soil, wail, O vinedressers, for the wheat and the barley; because the harvest of the field has perished.

12. മുന്തിരിവള്ളി വാടി അത്തിവൃക്ഷം ഉണങ്ങി, മാതളം, ഈന്തപ്പന, നാരകം മുതലായി പറമ്പിലെ സകലവൃക്ഷങ്ങളും ഉണങ്ങിപ്പോയിരിക്കുന്നു; ആനന്ദം മനുഷ്യരെ വീട്ടു മാഞ്ഞുപോയല്ലോ.

12. The vine withers, the fig tree languishes. Pomegranate, palm, and apple, all the trees of the field are withered; and gladness fails from the sons of men.

13. പുരോഹിതന്മാരേ, രട്ടുടുത്തു വിലപിപ്പിന് ; യാഗപീഠത്തിന്റെ ശുശ്രൂഷകന്മാരേ, മുറയിടുവിന് ; എന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ശുശ്രൂഷകന്മാരേ, ഭോജനയാഗവും പാനീയയാഗവും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തില് മുടങ്ങിപ്പോയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങള് വന്നു രട്ടുടുത്തു രാത്രി കഴിച്ചുകൂട്ടുവിന് .

13. Gird on sackcloth and lament, O priests, wail, O ministers of the altar. Go in, pass the night in sackcloth, O ministers of my God! Because cereal offering and drink offering are withheld from the house of your God.

14. ഒരു ഉപവാസദിവസം നിയമിപ്പിന് ; സഭായോഗം വിളിപ്പിന് ; മൂപ്പന്മാരെയും ദേശത്തിലെ സകലനിവാസികളെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് കൂട്ടിവരുത്തുവിന് ; യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിപ്പിന് ;

14. Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the LORD your God; and cry to the LORD.

15. ആ ദിവസം അയ്യോ കഷ്ടം! യഹോവയുടെ ദിവസം അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു. അതു സര്വ്വശക്തന്റെ പക്കല്നിന്നു സംഹാരം പോലെ വരുന്നു.

15. Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is near, and as destruction from the Almighty it comes.

16. നമ്മുടെ കണ്ണിന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ആഹാരവും നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തില്നിന്നു സന്തോഷവും ഉല്ലാസഘോഷവും അറ്റുപോയല്ലോ.

16. Is not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

17. വിത്തു കട്ടകളുടെ കീഴില് കിടന്നു കെട്ടുപോകുന്നു; ധാന്യം കരിഞ്ഞുപോയിരിക്കയാല് പാണ്ടികശാലകള് ശൂന്യമായി കളപ്പുരകള് ഇടിഞ്ഞുപോകുന്നു.

17. The seed shrivels under the clods, the storehouses are desolate; the granaries are ruined because the grain has failed.

18. മൃഗങ്ങള് എത്ര ഞരങ്ങുന്നു; കന്നുകാലികള് മേച്ചല് ഇല്ലായ്കകൊണ്ടു ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുന്നു; ആടുകള് ദണ്ഡം അനുഭവിക്കുന്നു.

18. How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are perplexed because there is no pasture for them; even the flocks of sheep are dismayed.

19. യഹോവേ, നിന്നോടു ഞാന് നിലവിളിക്കുന്നു; മരുഭൂമിയിലെ പുല്പുറങ്ങള് തീക്കും പറമ്പിലെ വൃക്ഷങ്ങള് എല്ലാം ജ്വാലെക്കും ഇരയായിത്തീര്ന്നുവല്ലോ.

19. Unto thee, O LORD, I cry. For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and flame has burned all the trees of the field.

20. നീര്തോടുകള് വറ്റിപ്പോകയും മരുഭൂമിയിലെ പുല്പുറങ്ങള് തീക്കു ഇരയായിത്തീരുകയും ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു വയലിലെ മൃഗങ്ങളും നിന്നെ നോക്കി കിഴെക്കുന്നു.

20. Even the wild beasts cry to thee because the water brooks are dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
