1. ആ കാലത്തു യോഹന്നാന് സ്നാപകന് വന്നു, യെഹൂദ്യമരുഭൂമിയില് പ്രസംഗിച്ചു

1. It was during those days that Yochanan the Immerser arrived in the desert of Y'hudah and began proclaiming the message,

2. സ്വര്ഗ്ഗ രാജ്യം സമീപിച്ചിരിക്കയാല് മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. Turn from your sins to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near!'

3. “മരുഭൂമിയില് വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നവന്റെ വാക്കാവിതുകര്ത്താവിന്റെ വഴി ഒരുക്കി അവന്റെ പാത നിരപ്പാക്കുവിന് ” എന്നിങ്ങനെ യെശയ്യാ പ്രവാചകന് പറഞ്ഞവന് ഇവന് തന്നേ.
യെശയ്യാ 40:3

3. This is the man Yesha'yahu was talking about when he said, 'The voice of someone crying out: 'In the desert prepare the way of ADONAI! Make straight paths for him!''

4. യോഹന്നാന്നു ഒട്ടക രോമംകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഉടുപ്പും അരയില് തോല്വാറും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ആഹാരമോ വെട്ടുക്കിളിയും കാട്ടുതേനും ആയിരുന്നു.

4. Yochanan wore clothes of camel's hair with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.

5. അന്നു യെരൂശലേമ്യരും യെഹൂദ്യദേശക്കാരൊക്കയും യോര്ദ്ദാന്റെ ഇരുകരെയുമുള്ള എല്ലാ നാട്ടുകാരും പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു

5. People went out to him from Yerushalayim, from all Y'hudah, and from the whole region around the Yarden.

6. തങ്ങളുടെ പാപങ്ങളെ ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു യോര്ദ്ദാന് നദിയില് അവനാല് സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു.

6. Confessing their sins, they were immersed by him in the Yarden River.

7. തന്റെ സ്നാനത്തിന്നായി പരീശരിലും സദൂക്യരിലും പലര് വരുന്നതു കണ്ടാറെ അവന് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുസര്പ്പസന്തതികളെ, വരുവാനുള്ള കോപത്തെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞു ഔടിപ്പോകുവാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതന്നതു ആര്?

7. But when Yochanan saw many of the [P'rushim] and [Tz'dukim] coming to be immersed by him, he said to them, 'You snakes! Who warned you to escape the coming punishment?

8. മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നു യോഗ്യമായ ഫലം കായ്പിന് .

8. If you have really turned from your sins to God, produce fruit that will prove it!

9. അബ്രാഹാം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പിതാവായിട്ടു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ഉള്ളം കൊണ്ടു പറവാന് തുനിയരുതു; ഈ കല്ലുകളില് നിന്നു അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു മക്കളെ ഉളവാക്കുവാന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു കഴിയും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

9. And don't suppose you can comfort yourselves by saying, 'Avraham is our father'! For I tell you that God can raise up for Avraham sons from these stones!

10. ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ ചുവട്ടിന്നു കോടാലി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ലഫലം കായ്ക്കാത്ത വൃക്ഷം എല്ലാം വെട്ടി തീയില് ഇട്ടുകളയുന്നു.

10. Already the axe is at the root of the trees, ready to strike; every tree that doesn't produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown in the fire!

11. ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നായി വെള്ളത്തില് സ്നാനം ഏല്പിക്കുന്നതേയുള്ളു; എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നവനോ എന്നെക്കാള് ബലവാന് ആകുന്നു; അവന്റെ ചെരിപ്പു ചുമപ്പാന് ഞാന് മതിയായവനല്ല; അവന് നിങ്ങളെ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിലും തീയിലും സ്നാനം ഏല്പിക്കും.

11. It's true that I am immersing you in water so that you might turn from sin to God; but the one coming after me is more powerful than I- I'm not worthy even to carry his sandals- and he will immerse you in the [Ruach HaKodesh] and in fire.

12. വീശുമുറം അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഉണ്ടു; അവന് കളത്തെ മുറ്റും വെടിപ്പാക്കി കോതമ്പു കളപ്പുരയില് കൂട്ടിവെക്കയും പതിര് കെടാത്ത തീയില് ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളകയും ചെയ്യും.

12. He has with him his winnowing fork; and he will clear out his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn but burning up the straw with unquenchable fire!'

13. അനന്തരം യേശു യോഹന്നാനാല് സ്നാനം ഏലക്കുവാന് ഗലീലയില് നിന്നു യോര്ദ്ദാന് കരെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

13. Then Yeshua came from the Galil to the Yarden to be immersed by Yochanan.

14. യോഹന്നാനോ അവനെ വിലക്കിനിന്നാല് സ്നാനം ഏലക്കുവാന് എനിക്കു ആവശ്യം; പിന്നെ നീ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരുന്നുവോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. But Yochanan tried to stop him. 'You are coming to me? I ought to be immersed by you!'

15. യേശു അവനോടുഇപ്പോള് സമ്മതിക്ക; ഇങ്ങനെ സകലനീതിയും നിവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതു നമുക്കു ഉചിതം എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു; എന്നാറെ അവന് അവനെ സമ്മതിച്ചു.

15. However, Yeshua answered him, 'Let it be this way now, because we should do everything righteousness requires.' Then Yochanan let him.

16. യേശു സ്നാനം ഏറ്റ ഉടനെ വെള്ളത്തില്നിന്നു കയറി അപ്പോള് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗം തുറന്നു ദൈവാത്മാവു പ്രാവെന്നപോലെ ഇറങ്ങി തന്റെ മേല് വരുന്നതു അവന് കണ്ടു;

16. As soon as Yeshua had been immersed, he came up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, he saw the Spirit of God coming down upon him like a dove,

17. ഇവന് എന്റെ പ്രിയ പുത്രന് ; ഇവനില് ഞാന് പ്രസാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് നിന്നു ഒരു ശബ്ദവും ഉണ്ടായി.

17. and a voice from heaven said, 'This is my Son, whom I love; I am well pleased with him.'
