1. ആ കാലത്തു ലോകം ഒക്കെയും പേര്വഴി ചാര്ത്തേണം എന്നു ഔഗുസ്തൊസ് കൈസരുടെ ഒരു ആജ്ഞ പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

1. It followed(And it chanced) in those days: that there went out a commandment from August the Emperor, that all the world should be valued.(taxed.)

2. കുറേന്യൊസ് സുറിയനാടു വാഴുമ്പോള് ഈ ഒന്നാമത്തെ ചാര്ത്തല് ഉണ്ടായി.

2. (And) This taxing was (the) first executed (and) when Syrenus was leftenant in Syria.

3. എല്ലാവരും ചാര്ത്തപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന്നു താന്താന്റെ പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു യാത്രയായി.

3. And every man went into(unto) his own shire town,(city) there to be taxed.

4. അങ്ങനെ യോസേഫും ദാവീദിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തിലും കുലത്തിലും ഉള്ളവന് ആകകൊണ്ടു തനിക്കു വിവാഹം നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്ന മറിയ എന്ന ഗര്ഭിണിയായ ഭാര്യയോടും കൂടെ ചാര്ത്തപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന്നു ഗലീലയിലെ നസറത്ത് പട്ടണം വിട്ടു,

4. And Joseph also ascended from Galilee, out of a city called Nazareth, into Jewry:(Iurie:) into(unto) the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David

5. യെഹൂദ്യയില് ബേത്ളേഹെം എന്ന ദാവീദിന് പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു പോയി.

5. to be taxed with Mary his wedded(spoused) wife, which was with child.

6. അവര് അവിടെ ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവള്ക്കു പ്രസവത്തിനുള്ള കാലം തികെഞ്ഞു.

6. And it fortuned while they were there, her time was come that she should be delivered.

7. അവള് ആദ്യജാതനായ മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു, ശീലകള് ചുറ്റി വഴിയമ്പലത്തില് അവര്ക്കും സ്ഥലം ഇല്ലായ്കയാല് പശുത്തൊട്ടിയില് കിടത്തി.

7. And she brought forth her first begotten son. And wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them within, in the hostry.(inn.)

8. അന്നു ആ പ്രദേശത്തു ഇടയന്മാര് രാത്രിയില് ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടത്തെ കാവല്കാത്തു വെളിയില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്നു.

8. And there were in the same region shepherds abiding in the field, and watching their flock by night.

9. അപ്പോള് കര്ത്താവിന്റെ ഒരു ദൂതന് അവരുടെ അരികെ നിന്നു, കര്ത്താവിന്റെ തേജസ്സ് അവരെ ചുറ്റിമിന്നി, അവര് ഭയപരവശരായിതീര്ന്നു.

9. And lo: the angel of the Lord stood hard by them, and the brightness of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid.

10. ദൂതന് അവരോടുഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; സര്വ്വജനത്തിന്നും ഉണ്ടാവാനുള്ളോരു മഹാസന്തോഷം ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു സുവിശേഷിക്കുന്നു.

10. And (But) the angel said unto them: Be not afraid: (For) Behold I bring you tidings of great joy, that shall come to all the people:

11. കര്ത്താവായ ക്രിസ്തു എന്ന രക്ഷിതാവു ഇന്നു ദാവീദിന്റെ പട്ടണത്തില് നിങ്ങള്ക്കായി ജനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

11. for unto you is born this day in the city of David a saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12. നിങ്ങള്ക്കു അടയാളമോ; ശീലകള് ചുറ്റി പശുത്തൊട്ടിയില് കിടക്കുന്ന ഒരു ശിശുവിനെ നിങ്ങള് കാണും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. And take this for a sign: ye shall find the child(babe) swaddled, and laid in a manger.

13. പെട്ടെന്നു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗീയ സൈന്യത്തിന്റെ ഒരു സംഘം ദൂതനോടു ചേര്ന്നു ദൈവത്തെ പുകഴ്ത്തി.

13. And straight way there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly soldiers,(hosts) lauding(which praised) God, and saying:

14. “അത്യുന്നതങ്ങളില് ദൈവത്തിന്നു മഹത്വം; ഭൂമിയില് ദൈവപ്രസാദമുള്ള മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും സമാധാനം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. Glory to God on high,(an hye) and peace on the earth: and unto men rejoicing.(a good will)

15. ദൂതന്മാര് അവരെ വിട്ടു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് പോയശേഷം ഇടയന്മാര്നാം ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമോളം ചെന്നു കര്ത്താവു നമ്മോടു അറിയിച്ച ഈ സംഭവം കാണേണം എന്നു തമ്മില് പറഞഞു.

15. And it fortuned, as soon as the angels were gone away (from them) into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: let us go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing that is happened, which the Lord hath shewed unto us.

16. അവര് ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ചെന്നു, മറിയയെയും യോസേഫിനെയും പശുത്തൊട്ടിയില് കിടക്കുന്ന ശിശുവിനെയും കണ്ടു.

16. And they came with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe laid in a manger.

17. കണ്ടശേഷം ഈ പൈതലിനെക്കുറിച്ചു തങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു അറിയിച്ചു.

17. And when they had seen it, they published abroad the saying, which was told them of that child.

18. കേട്ടവര് എല്ലാവരും ഇടയന്മാര് പറഞ്ഞതിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു.

18. And all that heard it wondered, at those things(words) which were told them of the shepherds.

19. മറിയ ഈ വാര്ത്ത ഒക്കെയും ഹൃദയത്തില് സംഗ്രഹിച്ചു ധ്യാനിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

19. But Mary kept all those sayings, and pondered them in her heart.

20. തങ്ങളോടു അറിയിച്ചതുപോലെ ഇടയന്മാര് കേട്ടതും കണ്ടതുമായ എല്ലാറ്റിനെയും കുറിച്ചു ദൈവത്തെ മഹത്വപ്പെടുത്തിയും പുകഴ്ത്തിയും കൊണ്ടു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

20. And the shepherds returned, praising and lauding God for all that they had heard and seen, even as it was told unto them.

21. പരിച്ഛേദന കഴിപ്പാനുള്ള എട്ടു ദിവസം തികെഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അവന് ഗര്ഭത്തില് ഉല്പാദിക്കുംമുമ്പെ ദൂതന് പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ അവന്നു യേശു എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.

21. And when the eighth day was come that the child should be circumcised, his name was called Jesus, which was named of the angel before he was conceived in the mother's womb.

22. And when the time of their purification (after the law of Moses) was come they brought him to Hierusalem, to present him to the Lord

23. കടിഞ്ഞൂലായ ആണൊക്കെയും കര്ത്താവിന്നു വിശുദ്ധം ആയിരിക്കേണം എന്നു കര്ത്താവിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ

23. (As it is written in the law of the Lord: every man child that first openeth the matrix, shall be called holy to the Lord)

24. അവനെ കര്ത്താവിന്നു അര്പ്പിപ്പാനും ഒരു ഇണ കുറപ്രാവിനെയോ രണ്ടു പ്രാകൂഞ്ഞിനെയോ കര്ത്താവിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില് കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ യാഗം കഴിപ്പാനും അവര് അവനെ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

24. and to offer (as it is said in the law of the Lord) a pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons.

25. യെരൂശലേമില് ശിമ്യോന് എന്നു പേരുള്ളൊരു മനുഷ്യന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഈ മനുഷ്യന് നീതിമാനും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ആശ്വാസത്തിന്നായി കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നവനും ആയിരുന്നു; പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവും അവന്റെ മേല് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

25. And behold there was a man in Hierusalem, whose name was Simeon. And the same man was just and feared God, and longed for the consolation of Israel, and the holy ghost was in him.

26. കര്ത്താവിന്റെ ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ കാണുംമുമ്പെ മരണം കാണ്കയില്ല എന്നു പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനാല് അവന്നു അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

26. And an answer was given him of the holy ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

27. അവന് ആത്മനിയോഗത്താല് ദൈവാലയത്തില് ചെന്നു. യേശു എന്ന പൈതലിന്നു വേണ്ടി ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്റെ ചട്ടപ്രകാരം ചെയ്വാന് അമ്മയപ്പന്മാര് അവനെ അകത്തു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നപ്പോള്

27. And he came by inspiration into the temple. And as(when) the father and mother(elders) brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law.

28. അവന് അവനെ കയ്യില് ഏന്തി ദൈവത്തെ പുകഴ്ത്തി

28. Then took he him up in his arms (and praised God) and said:

29. “ഇപ്പോള് നാഥാ തിരുവചനം പോലെ നീ അടിയനെ സമാധാനത്തോടെ വിട്ടയക്കുന്നു.

29. Lord Now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace according to thy promise.

30. ജാതികള്ക്കു വെളിപ്പെടുവാനുള്ള പ്രകാശവും നിന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മഹത്വവുമായി

30. For mine eyes have seen the saviour sent from thee:

31. നീ സകല ജാതികളുടെയും മുമ്പില് ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ രക്ഷയെ

31. Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people.

32. എന്റെ കണ്ണു കണ്ടുവല്ലോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
യെശയ്യാ 25:7, യെശയ്യാ 42:6, യെശയ്യാ 46:13, യെശയ്യാ 49:6

32. A light to lighten the gentiles, and the glory(and for the praise) of thy people Israel.

33. ഇങ്ങനെ അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതില് അവന്റെ അപ്പനും അമ്മയും ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു.

33. And his father and mother marveled at those things, which were spoken of him:

34. പിന്നെ ശിമ്യോന് അവരെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു അവന്റെ അമ്മയായ മറിയയോടുഅനേകഹൃദയങ്ങളിലെ വിചാരം വെളിപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇവനെ യിസ്രായേലില് പലരുടെയും വീഴ്ചെയക്കും എഴുന്നേല്പിന്നും മറുത്തുപറയുന്ന അടയാളത്തിന്നുമായി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

34. And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother: behold, this child shall be the fall, and resurrection(and to an uprising again) of many in Israel: And a sign(and for a token) which shall be spoken against.

35. നിന്റെ സ്വന്തപ്രാണനില്കൂടിയും ഒരു വാള് കടക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

35. And moreover the sword shall pierce the very heart of thee,(thy soul) that the thoughts of many hearts may be opened.

36. ആശേര് ഗോത്രത്തില് ഫനൂവേലിന്റെ മകളായ ഹന്നാ എന്നൊരു പ്രവാചകി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവള് കന്യാകാലത്തില് പിന്നെ ഭര്ത്താവിനോടുകൂടെ ഏഴു സംവത്സരം കഴിച്ചു എണ്പത്തുനാലു സംവത്സരം വിധവയും വളരെ വയസ്സു ചെന്നവളുമായി

36. And there was (one) Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel of (the) tribe of Aser. And she(which) was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven year from her virginity.

37. ദൈവാലയം വിട്ടു പിരിയാതെ ഉപവാസത്തോടും പ്രാര്ത്ഥനയോടും കൂടെ രാവും പകലും ആരാധന ചെയ്തു പോന്നു.

37. And this(she had been a) widow about four score and four year of age, which went never out of the temple, but served (God) there with fasting and prayer night and day.

38. ആ നാഴികയില് അവളും അടുത്തുനിന്നു ദൈവത്തെ സ്തുതിച്ചു, യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ വീണ്ടെടുപ്പിനെ കാത്തിരുന്ന എല്ലാവരോടും അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു.

38. And she(the same) came forth that same hour, and praised God,(the Lord) and spake of him to all that looked for redemption in Hierusalem.

39. കര്ത്താവിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില് കല്പിച്ചുരിക്കുന്നതൊക്കെയും നിവര്ത്തിച്ചശേഷം അവര് ഗലീലയില് തങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണമായ നസറത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

39. And as soon as they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee into(to) their own city Nazareth.

40. പൈതല് വളര്ന്നു ജ്ഞാനം നിറഞ്ഞു, ആത്മാവില് ബലപ്പെട്ടുപോന്നു; ദൈവകൃപയും അവന്മേല് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

40. And the child grew and waxed strong in spirit, and was full of(filled with) wisdom, and the favour(grace) of God was with him.

41. അവന്റെ അമ്മയപ്പന്മാര് ആണ്ടുതോറും പെസഹപെരുനാളിന്നു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു പോകും.

41. And his father and mother went to Hierusalem every year at the feast of ester.

42. അവന്നു പന്ത്രണ്ടു വയസ്സായപ്പോള് അവര് പതിവുപോലെ പെരുനാളിന്നു പോയി.

42. And when he was twelve year old, they went up to Hierusalem after the custom of the feast.

43. പെരുനാള് കഴിഞ്ഞു മടങ്ങിപ്പോരുമ്പോള് ബാലനായ യേശു യെരൂശലേമില് താമസിച്ചു; അമ്മയപ്പന്മാരോ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

43. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned home, the child Jesus bode still in Hierusalem, unknowing to his father and mother.

44. സഹയാത്രക്കാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും എന്നു അവര് ഊഹിച്ചിട്ടു ഒരു ദിവസത്തെ വഴി പോന്നു; പിന്നെ അവനെ ബന്ധുക്കളുടെയും പരിചയക്കാരുടെയും ഇടയില് തിരഞ്ഞു.

44. For they supposed(thought) he had been in the company. They(and therefore) came a day's journey, and sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance,

45. കാണാഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവനെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

45. and(when they) found him not They went back again to Hierusalem, and sought him.

46. മൂന്നു നാള് കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം അവന് ദൈവാലയത്തില് ഉപദേഷ്ടാക്കന്മാരുടെ നടുവില് ഇരിക്കുന്നതും അവരുടെ ഉപദേശം കേള്ക്കയും അവരോടു ചോദിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നതും കണ്ടു.

46. And it fortuned after three days, (that) they found him in the temple sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and posing(opposing) them.

47. അവന്റെ വാക്കു കേട്ടവര്ക്കെല്ലാവര്ക്കും അവന്റെ വിവേകത്തിലും ഉത്തരങ്ങളിലും വിസ്മയം തോന്നി. അവനെ കണ്ടിട്ടു അവര് അതിശയിച്ചു;

47. And all that heard him marveled at his wit(understanding) and answers.

48. അമ്മ അവനോടുമകനേ, ഞങ്ങളോടു ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തതു എന്തു? നിന്റെ അപ്പനും ഞാനും വ്യസനിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നിന്നെ തിരഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
യെശയ്യാ 52:14

48. And when they saw him, they were astonied. And his mother said unto him: son why hast thou thus dealt with us? Behold thy father and I have sorowed and sought thee.(sorrowing)

49. അവന് അവരോടുഎന്നെ തിരഞ്ഞതു എന്തിന്നു? എന്റെ പിതാവിന്നുള്ളതില് ഞാന് ഇരിക്കേണ്ടതു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

49. And he said unto them: how is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must go about my father's business?

50. അവന് തങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു അവര് ഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ല.

50. And they understood not the saying that he spake to them.

51. പിന്നെ അവന് അവരോടുകൂടെ ഇറങ്ങി, നസറെത്തില് വന്നു അവര്ക്കും കീഴടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. ഈ കാര്യങ്ങള് എല്ലാം അവന്റെ അമ്മ ഹൃദയത്തില് സംഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

51. And he went with them, and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. (But) His mother kept all these things in her heart.

52. യേശുവോ ജ്ഞാനത്തിലും വളര്ച്ചയിലും ദൈവത്തിന്റെയും മനുഷ്യരുടെയും കൃപയിലും മുതിര്ന്നു വന്നു.

52. And Jesus increased in wisdom and age, and in favour with God and man.
