1. എന്നാല് നമ്മുടെ പൂര്വ്വപിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാം ജഡപ്രകാരം എന്തു പ്രാപിച്ചു എന്നു പറയേണ്ടു?

1. What then are we to say was gained by Abraham, our ancestor according to the flesh?

2. അബ്രാഹാം പ്രവൃത്തിയാല് നീതീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു എങ്കില് അവന്നു പ്രശംസിപ്പാന് സംഗതി ഉണ്ടു; ദൈവസന്നിധിയില് ഇല്ലതാനും,

2. For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.

3. തിരുവെഴുത്തു എന്തു പറയുന്നു? “അബ്രാഹാം ദൈവത്തെ വിശ്വസിച്ചു; അതു അവന്നു നീതിയായി കണക്കിട്ടു” എന്നു തന്നേ.

3. For what does the scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.

4. എന്നാല് പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നവന്നു കൂലി കണക്കിടുന്നതു കൃപയായിട്ടല്ല കടമായിട്ടത്രേ.

4. Now to one who works, wages are not reckoned as a gift but as something due.

5. പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കാത്തവന് എങ്കിലും അഭക്തനെ നിതീകരിക്കുന്നവനില് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവന്നോ അവന്റെ വിശ്വാസം നീതിയായി കണക്കിടുന്നു.

5. But to one who without works trusts him who justifies the ungodly, such faith is reckoned as righteousness.

6. ദൈവം പ്രവൃത്തിക്കുടാതെ നീതികണക്കിടുന്ന മനുഷ്യന്റെ ഭാഗ്യം ദാവീദും വര്ണ്ണിക്കുന്നതു

6. So also David speaks of the blessedness of those to whom God reckons righteousness apart from works:

7. “അധര്മ്മം മോചിച്ചും പാപം മറെച്ചും കിട്ടിയവര് ഭാഗ്യവാന്മാര്.
സങ്കീർത്തനങ്ങൾ 32:1-2

7. Blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;

8. കര്ത്താവു പാപം കണക്കിടാത്ത മനുഷ്യന് ഭാഗ്യവാന് .”

8. blessed is the one against whom the Lord will not reckon sin.

9. ഈ ഭാഗ്യവര്ണ്ണനം പരിച്ഛേദനെക്കോ? അഗ്രചര്മ്മത്തിന്നു കൂടെയോ? അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു വിശ്വാസം നീതിയായി കണക്കിട്ടു എന്നല്ലോ നാം പറയുന്നതു.

9. Is this blessedness, then, pronounced only on the circumcised, or also on the uncircumcised? We say, Faith was reckoned to Abraham as righteousness.

10. എങ്ങനെ കണക്കിട്ടതു? പരിച്ഛേദനയിലോ? അഗ്രചര്മ്മത്തിലോ? പരിച്ഛേദനയിലല്ല. അഗ്രചര്മ്മത്തിലത്രേ.

10. How then was it reckoned to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.

11. അഗ്രചര്മ്മത്തില്വെച്ചു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു വിശ്വാസനീതിക്കു മുദ്രയായി പരിച്ഛേദന എന്ന അടയാളം അവന്നു ലഭിച്ചതു അഗ്രചര്മ്മത്തോട വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും കൂടെ നീതി കണക്കിടപ്പെടുവാന്തക്കവണ്ണം താന് അവര്ക്കും എല്ലാവര്ക്കും പിതാവായിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും

11. He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the ancestor of all who believe without being circumcised and who thus have righteousness reckoned to them,

12. പരിച്ഛേദന മാത്രമുള്ളവരല്ല നമ്മുടെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു അഗ്രചര്മ്മത്തില്വെച്ചു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന വിശ്വാസത്തെ അനുഗമിക്കുന്നവരുമായ പരിച്ഛേദനക്കാര്ക്കും പിതാവായിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും തന്നേ.

12. and likewise the ancestor of the circumcised who are not only circumcised but who also follow the example of the faith that our ancestor Abraham had before he was circumcised.

13. ലോകാവകാശി ആകും എന്നുള്ള വാഗ്ദത്തം അബ്രാഹാമിന്നോ അവന്റെ സന്തതിക്കോ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താലല്ല വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ നീതിയാലല്ലോ ലഭിച്ചതു.

13. For the promise that he would inherit the world did not come to Abraham or to his descendants through the law but through the righteousness of faith.

14. എന്നാല് ന്യായപ്രമാണമുള്ളവര് അവകാശികള് എങ്കില് വിശ്വാസം വ്യര്ത്ഥവും വാഗ്ദത്തം ദുര്ബ്ബലവും എന്നു വരും.

14. If it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void.

15. ന്യായപ്രമാണമോ കോപത്തിന്നു ഹേതുവാകുന്നു; ന്യായപ്രമാണം ഇല്ലാത്തേടത്തു ലംഘനവുമില്ല.

15. For the law brings wrath; but where there is no law, neither is there violation.

16. അതു കൊണ്ടു കൃപാദാനം എന്നു വരേണ്ടതിന്നു വിശ്വാസത്താലത്രേ അവകാശികള് ആകുന്നതു; വാഗ്ദത്തം സകലസന്തതിക്കും, ന്യായപ്രമാണമുള്ളവര്ക്കും മാത്രമല്ല, അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ വിശ്വാസമുള്ളവര്ക്കും കൂടെ ഉറപ്പാകേണ്ടതിന്നു തന്നെ.

16. For this reason it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his descendants, not only to the adherents of the law but also to those who share the faith of Abraham (for he is the father of all of us,

17. മരിച്ചവരെ ജീവിപ്പിക്കയും ഇല്ലാത്തതിനെ ഉള്ളതിനെപ്പോലെ വിളിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നവനായി താന് വിശ്വസിച്ച ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടിയില് അവന് നമുക്കെല്ലാവര്ക്കും പിതാവാകേണ്ടതിന്നു തന്നേ. “ഞാന് നിന്നെ ബഹുജാതികള്ക്കു പിതാവാക്കിവെച്ചു” എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

17. as it is written, I have made you the father of many nations)-- in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.

18. “നിന്റെ സന്തതി ഇവ്വണ്ണം ആകും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ താന് ബഹുജാതികള്ക്കു പിതാവാകും എന്നു അവന് ആശെക്കു വിരോധമായി ആശയോടെ വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

18. Hoping against hope, he believed that he would become the father of many nations, according to what was said, So numerous shall your descendants be.

19. അവന് ഏകദേശം നൂറു വയസ്സുള്ളവനാകയാല് തന്റെ ശരീരം നിര്ജ്ജീവമായിപ്പോയതും സാറയുടെ ഗര്ഭപാത്രത്തിന്റെ നിര്ജ്ജീവത്വവും ഗ്രഹിച്ചിട്ടും വിശ്വാസത്തില് ക്ഷീണിച്ചില്ല.

19. He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was already as good as dead (for he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah's womb.

20. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വാഗ്ദത്തത്തിങ്കല് അവിശ്വാസത്താല് സംശയിക്കാതെ വിശ്വാസത്തില് ശക്തിപ്പെട്ടു ദൈവത്തിന്നു മഹത്വം കൊടുത്തു,

20. No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God,

21. അവന് വാഗ്ദത്തം ചെയ്തതു പ്രവര്ത്തിപ്പാനും ശക്തന് എന്നു പൂര്ണ്ണമായി ഉറെച്ചു.

21. being fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.

22. അതുകൊണ്ടു അതു അവന്നു നീതിയായി കണക്കിട്ടു.

22. Therefore his faith was reckoned to him as righteousness.

23. അവന്നു കണക്കിട്ടു എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതു അവനെ വിചാരിച്ചു മാത്രം അല്ല,

23. Now the words, it was reckoned to him, were written not for his sake alone,

24. നമ്മെ വിചാരിച്ചുംകൂടെ ആകുന്നു. നമ്മുടെ അതിക്രമങ്ങള് നിമിത്തം മരണത്തിന്നു ഏല്പിച്ചും നമ്മുടെ നീതീകരണത്തിന്നായി ഉയിര്പ്പിച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്ന

24. but for ours also. It will be reckoned to us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,

25. നമ്മുടെ കര്ത്താവായ യേശുവിനെ മരിച്ചവരില്നിന്നു ഉയര്പ്പിച്ചവനില് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന നമുക്കും കണക്കിടുവാനുള്ളതാകയാല് തന്നേ.

25. who was handed over to death for our trespasses and was raised for our justification.
