1. വിഗ്രഹാര്പ്പിതങ്ങളുടെ കാര്യ്യം പറഞ്ഞാലോ നമുക്കെല്ലാവര്ക്കും അറിവു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു നമുക്കു അറിയാം. അറിവു ചീര്പ്പിക്കുന്നു; സ്നേഹമോ ആത്മികവര്ദ്ധന വരുത്തുന്നു.

1. To speak of things dedicated unto idols,(As touching things offered unto Idols) we are sure that we all have knowledge. Knowledge maketh a man swell: but love edifieth.

2. താന് വല്ലതും അറിയുന്നു എന്നു ഒരുത്തന്നു തോന്നുന്നു എങ്കില് അറിയേണ്ടതുപോലെ അവന് ഇന്നുവരെ ഒന്നും അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല.

2. If any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

3. ഒരുത്തന് ദൈവത്തെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിലോ അവനെ ദൈവം അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

3. But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

4. വിഗ്രഹാര്പ്പിതങ്ങളെ തിന്നുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ചോ, ലോകത്തില് വിഗ്രഹം ഏതുമില്ല എന്നും ഏകദൈവമല്ലാതെ ദൈവമില്ല എന്നും നാം അറിയുന്നു. പല ദേവന്മാരും പല കര്ത്താക്കന്മാരും ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറയുന്നുവല്ലോ.

4. To speak of meat dedicated unto idols, we are sure that there is none idol(So are we sure now concerning the meats offered unto Idols, that an Idol is nothing) in the world: and that there is none other God but one.

5. എന്നാല് ആകാശത്തിലോ ഭൂമിയിലോ ദേവന്മാര് എന്നു പേരുള്ളവര് ഉണ്ടെന്നുവരികിലും

5. And though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth (as there be gods many and lords many)

6. പിതാവായ ഏക ദൈവമേ നമുക്കുള്ളു; അവന് സകലത്തിന്നും കാരണഭൂതനും നാം അവന്നായി ജീവിക്കേണ്ടതും ആകുന്നു. യേശുക്രിസ്തു എന്ന ഏക കര്ത്താവും നമുക്കു ഉണ്ടു; അവന് മുഖാന്തരം സകലവും അവന് മുഖാന്തരം നാമും ആകുന്നു.

6. but(yet) unto us is there(but) one God, which is the father, of whom are all things, and we in him: and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

7. എന്നാല് എല്ലാവരിലും ഈ അറിവില്ല. ചിലര് ഇന്നുവരെ വിഗ്രഹപരിചയം ഹേതുവായി വിഗ്രഹാര്പ്പിതം എന്നുവെച്ചു തിന്നുന്നു;

7. But every man hath not knowledge. For some suppose that there is an idol, until this hour, and eat as of a thing offered unto the idol, and so their consciences being yet weak are defiled.

8. അവരുടെ മനസ്സാക്ഷി ബലഹീനമാകയാല് മലിനമായിത്തീരുന്നു. എന്നാല് ആഹാരം നമ്മെ ദൈവത്തോടു അടുപ്പിക്കുന്നില്ല; തിന്നാഞ്ഞാല് നമുക്കു നഷ്ടമില്ല; തിന്നാല് ആദായവുമില്ല.

8. Meat maketh us not acceptable to God: Neither if we eat are we the better: Neither if we eat not are we the worse.(less)

9. എന്നാല് നിങ്ങളുടെ ഈ സ്വതന്ത്ര്യം ബലഹീനന്മാര്ക്കും യാതൊരു വിധത്തിലും തടങ്ങല് ആയി വരാതിരിപ്പാന് നോക്കുവിന് .

9. But take heed that your liberty cause not the weak to fall.(be not an occasion of falling unto the weak)

10. അറിവുള്ളവനായ നീ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില് ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നിരിക്കുന്നതു ഒരുത്തന് കണ്ടാല്, ബലഹീനനെങ്കില് അവന്റെ മനസ്സാക്ഷി വിഗ്രഹാര്പ്പിതങ്ങളെ തിന്നുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ഉറെക്കയില്ലയോ?

10. For if some man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple shall not the conscience of him which is weak be boldened(occasioned) to eat those things which are offered unto the idol?

11. ആര്ക്കുംവേണ്ടി ക്രിസ്തു മരിച്ചുവോ, ആ ബലഹീനസഹോദരന് ഇങ്ങനെ നിന്റെ അറിവിനാല് നശിച്ചു പോകുന്നു.

11. And so thorow thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish for whom Christ died.

12. ഇങ്ങനെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ നേരെ പാപം ചെയ്തു, അവരുടെ ബലഹീന മനസ്സാക്ഷിയെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോള് നിങ്ങള് ക്രിസ്തുവിനോടു പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

12. When we(ye) sin so against the brethren and wound their weak consciences, we(ye) sin against Christ.

13. ആകയാല് ആഹാരം എന്റെ സഹോദരന്നു ഇടര്ച്ചയായിത്തീരും എങ്കില് എന്റെ സഹോദരന്നു ഇടര്ച്ച വരുത്താതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് ഒരുനാളും മാംസം തിന്നുകയില്ല.

13. Wherefore if meat hurt(offend) my brother, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, because I will not hurt(lest i offend) my brother.
