1. നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നിനക്കു അവകാശമായി തരുന്ന ദേശത്തു വയലില് ഒരുത്തനെ കൊന്നിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതു കാണുകയും അവനെ കൊന്നവന് ആരെന്നു അറിയാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്താല് നിന്റെ മൂപ്പന്മാരും

1. 'If, in the land ADONAI your God is giving you to possess, a murder victim is found lying in the countryside; and the perpetrator of the murder is not known;

2. ന്യായധിപതിമാരും പുറത്തു ചെന്നു കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടവന്റെ ചുറ്റുമിരിക്കുന്ന അതതു പട്ടണംവരെയുള്ള ദൂരം അളക്കേണം.

2. then your leaders and judges are to go out and measure the distance between it and the surrounding towns.

3. കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടവന്നു അധികം അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര്, വേല ചെയ്യിക്കാത്തതും നുകം വെക്കാത്തതുമായ ഒരു പശുക്കിടാവിനെ കൊണ്ടുവരേണം.

3. After it has been determined which town is the closest, the leaders of that town are to take a young female cow that has never been put to work or yoked for use as a draft animal.

4. ആ പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് ഉഴവും വിതയും ഇല്ലാത്തതും നിരൊഴുകൂള്ളതുമായ ഒരു താഴ്വരയില് പശുക്കിടാവിനെ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു അവിടെവെച്ചു പശുക്കിടാവിന്റെ കഴുത്തു ഒടിച്ചുകളയേണം.

4. The leaders of that town are to bring the heifer down to a [vadi] with a stream in it that never dries up, to a place that is neither plowed nor sown; and they are to break the cow's neck there in the [vadi].

5. പിന്നെ ലേവ്യരായ പുരോഹിതന്മാര് അടുത്തു ചെല്ലേണം; അവരെയല്ലോ നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ തനിക്കു ശുശ്രൂഷചെയ്വാനും യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് അനുഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നതു; അവരുടെ വാക്കിന് പ്രകാരം സകലവ്യവഹാരവും അടികലശലും തീര്ക്കേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.

5. Then the [cohanim], who are [L'vi'im], are to approach; for ADONAI your God has chosen them to serve him and to pronounce blessings in the name of ADONAI; they will decide the outcome of every dispute and matter involving violence.

6. കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടവന്നു അടുത്ത പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് എല്ലാവരും താഴ്വരയില്വെച്ചു കഴുത്തൊടിച്ച പശുക്കിടാവിന്മേല് തങ്ങളുടെ കൈ കഴുകി

6. All the leaders of the town nearest the murder victim are to wash their hands over the cow whose neck was broken in the [vadi].

7. ഞങ്ങളുടെ കൈകള് ആ രക്തം ചിന്നീട്ടില്ല, ഞങ്ങളുടെ കണ്ണു അതു കണ്ടിട്ടുമില്ല.

7. Then they are to speak up and say, 'This blood was not shed by our hands, nor have we seen who did it.

8. യഹോവ, നീ വീണ്ടെടുത്തിട്ടുള്ള നിന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിനോടു ക്ഷമിക്കേണമേ; നിന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യേ കുറ്റമില്ലാത്ത രക്തം ഇരിപ്പാന് ഇടവരുത്തരുതേ എന്നു പറയേണം; എന്നാല് ആ രക്തപാതകം അവരോടു മോചിക്കപ്പെടും.

8. ADONAI, forgive your people Isra'el, whom you redeemed; do not allow innocent blood to be shed among your people Isra'el.' And they will be forgiven this bloodshed.

9. ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവേക്കു ഹിതമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു കുറ്റമില്ലാത്ത രക്തം നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളയേണം.

9. Thus you will banish the shedding of innocent blood from among you, by doing what ADONAI sees as right.

10. നീ ശത്രുക്കളോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്വാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടിട്ടു നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ അവരെ നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കയും നീ അവരെ ബദ്ധന്മാരായി പിടിക്കയും ചെയ്താല്

10. 'When you go out to war against your enemies, and ADONAI your God hands them over to you, and you take prisoners,

11. ആ ബദ്ധന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് സുന്ദരിയായൊരു സ്ത്രീയെ കണ്ടു ഭാര്യയായി എടുപ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം അവളോടു പ്രേമം ജനിക്കുന്നുവെങ്കില്

11. and you see among the prisoners a woman who looks good to you, and you feel attracted to her and want her as your wife;

12. നീ അവളെ വീട്ടില് കൊണ്ടുപോകേണം; അവള് തലമുടി ചിരെക്കയും നഖം മുറിക്കയും ബദ്ധവസ്ത്രം മാറി

12. you are to bring her home to your house, where she will shave her head, cut her fingernails

13. നിന്റെ വീട്ടില് പാര്ത്തു ഒരു മാസം തന്റെ അപ്പനെയും അമ്മയെയും കുറിച്ചു ദുഃഖിക്കയും ചെയ്തശേഷം നീ അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവള്ക്കു ഭര്ത്താവായും അവള് നിനക്കു ഭാര്യയായും ഇരിക്കേണം.

13. and remove her prison clothing. She will stay there in your house, mourning her father and mother for a full month; after which you may go in to have sexual relations with her and be her husband, and she will be your wife.

14. എന്നാല് നിനക്കു അവളോടു ഇഷ്ടമില്ലാതെയായെങ്കില് അവളെ സ്വതന്ത്രയായി വിട്ടയക്കേണം; അവളെ ഒരിക്കലും വിലെക്കു വില്ക്കരുതു; നീ അവളെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവളോടു കാഠിന്യം പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കരുതു.

14. In the event that you lose interest in her, you are to let her go wherever she wishes; but you may not sell her for money or treat her like a slave, because you humiliated her.

15. ഒരുത്തി ഇഷ്ടയായും മറ്റവള് അനിഷ്ടയായും ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരാള്ക്കു രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാര് ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കയും അവര് ഇരുവരും അവന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെ പ്രസവിക്കയും ആദ്യജാതന് അനിഷ്ടയുടെ മകന് ആയിരിക്കയും ചെയ്താല്

15. 'If a man has two wives, the one loved and the other unloved, and both the loved and unloved wives have borne him children, and if the firstborn son is the child of the unloved wife;

16. അവന് തന്റെ സ്വത്തു പുത്രന്മാര്ക്കും ഭാഗിച്ചു കൊടുക്കുമ്പോള് അനിഷ്ടയുടെ മകനായ ആദ്യജാതന്നു പകരം ഇഷ്ടയുടെ മകന്നു ജ്യേഷ്ഠാവകാശം കൊടുത്തുകൂടാ.

16. then, when it comes time for him to pass his inheritance on to his sons, he may not give the inheritance due the firstborn to the son of the loved wife in place of the son of the unloved one, who is in fact the firstborn.

17. തനിക്കുള്ള സകലത്തിലും രണ്ടു പങ്കു അനിഷ്ടയുടെ മകന്നു കൊടുത്തു അവനെ ആദ്യജാതനെന്നു സ്വീകരിക്കേണം; അവന് അവന്റെ ബലത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭമല്ലോ; ജ്യേഷ്ഠാവകാശം അവന്നുള്ളതാകുന്നു.

17. No, he must acknowledge as firstborn the son of the unloved wife by giving him a double portion of everything he owns, for he is the firstfruits of his manhood, and the right of the firstborn is his.

18. അപ്പന്റെയോ അമ്മയുടെയോ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കാതെയും അവര് ശാസിച്ചാലും അനുസരിക്കാതെയുമിരിക്കുന്ന ശഠനും മത്സരിയുമായ മകന് ഒരുത്തന്നു ഉണ്ടെങ്കില്

18. 'If a man has a stubborn, rebellious son who will not obey what his father or mother says, and even after they discipline him he still refuses to pay attention to them;

19. അമ്മയപ്പന്മാര് അവനെ പിടിച്ചു പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി

19. then his father and mother are to take hold of him and bring him out to the leaders of his town, at the gate of that place,

20. ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഈ മകന് ശഠനും മത്സരിയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കാത്തവനും തിന്നിയും കുടിയനും ആകുന്നു എന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാരോടു പറയേണം.

20. and say to the leaders of his town, 'This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he doesn't pay attention to us, lives wildly, gets drunk.'

21. പിന്നെ അവന്റെ പട്ടണക്കാര് എല്ലാവരും അവനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞുകൊല്ലേണം. ഇങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു ദോഷം നീക്കിക്കളയേണം; യിസ്രായേലെല്ലാം കേട്ടു ഭയപ്പെടേണം.

21. Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death; in this way you will put an end to such wickedness among you, and all Isra'el will hear about it and be afraid.

22. ഒരുത്തന് മരണയോഗ്യമായ ഒരു പാപം ചെയ്തിട്ടു അവനെ കൊന്നു ഒരു മരത്തില് തൂക്കിയാല് അവന്റെ ശവം മരത്തിന്മേല് രാത്രിമുഴുവനും ഇരിക്കരുതു; അന്നുതന്നേ അതു കുഴിച്ചിടേണം; തൂങ്ങിമരിച്ചവന് ദൈവസന്നിധിയില് ശാപഗ്രസ്തന് ആകുന്നു; നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നിനക്കു അവകാശമായി തരുന്ന ദേശം നീ അശുദ്ധമാക്കരുതു.
