1. നുകത്തിന് കീഴില് ദാസന്മാരായിരിക്കുന്നവര് ഒക്കെയും ദൈവനാമവും ഉപദേശവും ദുഷിക്കപ്പെടാതിരിപ്പാന് തങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനന്മാരെ സകലമാനത്തിന്നും യോഗ്യന്മാര് എന്നു എണ്ണേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.

1. Let as many bondmen as are under yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and the teaching be not blasphemed.

2. വിശ്വാസികളായ യജമാനന്മാരുള്ളവര് അവരെ സഹോദരന്മാര് എന്നുവെച്ചു അലക്ഷ്യമാക്കരുതു; തങ്ങളെക്കൊണ്ടുള്ള ഉപകാരം അനുഭവിക്കുന്നവര് വിശ്വാസികളും പ്രിയരും ആകകൊണ്ടു അവരെ വിശേഷാല് സേവിക്കയത്രേ വേണ്ടതു; ഇതു നീ ഉപദേശിക്കയും പ്രബോധിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്ക.

2. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise [them] because they are brethren; but let them the rather serve them with subjection, because they are faithful and beloved, who profit by the good and ready service [rendered]. These things teach and exhort.

3. നമ്മുടെ കര്ത്താവായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ പത്ഥ്യവചനവും ഭക്തിക്കൊത്ത ഉപദേശവും അനുസരിക്കാതെ അന്യഥാ ഉപദേശിക്കുന്നവന് ഒന്നും തിരിച്ചറിയാതെ തക്കത്തിന്റെയും വാഗ്വാദത്തിന്റേയും ഭ്രാന്തുപിടിച്ചു ചീര്ത്തിരിക്കുന്നു; അവയാല് അസൂയ, ശണ്ഠ,

3. If any one teach differently, and do not accede to sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the teaching which [is] according to piety,

4. ദൂഷണം, ദുസ്സംശയം, ദുര്ബ്ബുദ്ധികളും സത്യ ത്യാഗികളുമായ മനുഷ്യരുടെ വ്യര്ത്ഥ്യവാദം എന്നിവ ഉളവാകുന്നു; അവര് ദൈവഭക്തി ആദായസൂത്രം എന്നു വിചാരിക്കുന്നു.

4. he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but sick about questions and disputes of words, out of which arise envy, strife, injurious words, evil suspicions,

5. അലംഭാവത്തോടുകൂടിയ ദൈവഭക്തി വലുതായ ആദയം ആകുന്നുതാനും.

5. constant quarrellings of men corrupted in mind and destitute of the truth, holding gain to be [the end of] piety.

6. ഇഹലോകത്തിലേക്കു നാം ഒന്നും കൊണ്ടുവന്നിട്ടില്ല; ഇവിടെനിന്നു യാതൊന്നും കൊണ്ടുപോകുവാന് കഴിയുന്നതുമല്ല.

6. But piety with contentment *is* great gain.

7. ഉണ്മാനും ഉടുപ്പാനും ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് മതി എന്നു നാം വിചാരിക്ക.

7. For we have brought nothing into the world: [it is] [manifest] that neither can we carry anything out.

8. ധനികന്മാരാകുവാന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവര് പരീക്ഷയിലും കണിയിലും കടുങ്ങുകയും മനുഷ്യര് സംഹാരനാശങ്ങളില് മുങ്ങിപോകുവാന് ഇടവരുന്ന മൌഢ്യവും ദോഷകരവുമായ പല മോഹങ്ങള്ക്കും ഇരയായിത്തീരുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

9. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many unwise and hurtful lusts, which plunge men into destruction and ruin.

10. നീയോ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മനുഷ്യനായുള്ളോവേ, അതു വിട്ടോടി നീതി, ഭക്തി, വിശ്വാസം, സ്നേഹം, ക്ഷമ, സൌമ്യത എന്നിവയെ പിന്തുടരുക.

10. For the love of money is [the] root of every evil; which some having aspired after, have wandered from the faith, and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

11. വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ നല്ല പോര് പൊരുതുക; നിത്യജീവനെ പിടിച്ചുകൊള്ക; അതിന്നായി നീ വിളിക്കപ്പെട്ടു അനേകം സാക്ഷികളുടെ മുമ്പാകെ നല്ല സ്വീകാരം കഴിച്ചുവല്ലോ.

11. But *thou*, O man of God, flee these things, and pursue righteousness, piety, faith, love, endurance, meekness of spirit.

12. നീ നിഷ്കളങ്കനും നിരപവാദ്യനുമായി ഈ കല്പന നമ്മുടെ കര്ത്താവായ യേശുവിന്റെ പ്രത്യക്ഷതവരെ പ്രമാണിച്ചുകൊള്ളേണം

12. Strive earnestly [in] the good conflict of faith. Lay hold of eternal life, to which thou hast been called, and hast confessed the good confession before many witnesses.

13. എന്നിങ്ങനെ സകലത്തെയും ജീവിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ദൈവത്തെയും പൊന്തിയൊസ് പീലാത്തൊസിന്റെ മുമ്പില് നല്ല സ്വീകാരം കഴിച്ച ക്രിസ്തുയേശുവിനെയും സാക്ഷിവെച്ചു ഞാന് നിന്നോടു ആജ്ഞാപിക്കുന്നു.

13. I enjoin thee before God who preserves all things in life, and Christ Jesus who witnessed before Pontius Pilate the good confession,

14. that thou keep the commandment spotless, irreproachable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ;

15. താന് മാത്രം അമര്ത്യതയുള്ളവനും അടുത്തുകൂടാത്ത വെളിച്ചത്തില് വസിക്കുന്നവനും മനുഷ്യര് ആരും കാണാത്തവനും കാണ്മാന് കഴിയാത്തവനുമായവന് തക്കസമയത്തു ആ പ്രത്യക്ഷതവരുത്തും. അവന്നു ബഹുമാനവും നിത്യബലവും ഉണ്ടാകട്ടെ. ആമേന് .

19. അല്ലയോ തിമൊഥെയോസേ, നിന്റെ പക്കല് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഉപനിധികാത്തുകൊണ്ടു ജ്ഞാനം എന്നു വ്യാജമായി പേര് പറയുന്നതിന്റെ ഭക്തിവിരുദ്ധമായ വൃഥാലാപങ്ങളെയും തര്ക്കസൂത്രങ്ങളെയും ഒഴിഞ്ഞു നില്ക്ക.

19. laying by for themselves a good foundation for the future, that they may lay hold of [what is] really life.

20. ആ ജ്ഞാനം ചിലര് സ്വീകരിച്ചു വിശ്വാസം വിട്ടു തെറ്റിപ്പോയിരിക്കുന്നു.

20. O Timotheus, keep the entrusted deposit, avoiding profane, vain babblings, and oppositions of false-named knowledge,

21. കൃപ നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ.

21. of which some having made profession, have missed the faith. Grace [be] with thee.
