1. എന്നാല് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ശപഥാര്പ്പിതവസ്തു സംബന്ധിച്ചു ഒരു അകൃത്യംചെയ്തു; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തില് സേരഹിന്റെ മകനായ സബ്ദിയുടെ മകനായ കര്മ്മിയുടെ മകന് ആഖാന് ശപഥാര്പ്പിതവസ്തുവില് ചിലതു എടുത്തു; യഹോവയുടെ കോപം യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളുടെ നേരെ ജ്വലിച്ചു.

1. But the sons of Israel committed a trespass in what was set apart. For Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took from what was set apart, and the anger of LORD was kindled against the sons of Israel.

2. യോശുവ യെരീഹോവില്നിന്നു ബേഥേലിന്നു കിഴക്കു ബേഥാവെന്റെ സമീപത്തുള്ള ഹായിയിലേക്കു ആളുകളെ അയച്ചു അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു ദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവര് ചെന്നു ഹായിയെ ഒറ്റുനോക്കി,

2. And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, Go up and spy out the land. And the men went up and spied out Ai.

3. യോശുവയുടെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിവന്നു അവനോടുജനം എല്ലാം പോകേണമെന്നില്ല; ഹായിയെ ജയിച്ചടക്കുവാന് രണ്ടായിരമോ മൂവായിരമോ പോയാല് മതി; സര്വ്വജനത്തെയും അവിടേക്കു അയച്ചു കഷ്ടപ്പെടുത്തേണ്ടാ; അവര് ആള് ചുരുക്കമത്രേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And they returned to Joshua, and said to him, Let not all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai. Do not make all the people to toil there, for they are but few.

4. അങ്ങനെ ജനത്തില് ഏകദേശം മൂവായിരം പേര് അവിടേക്കു പോയി; എന്നാല് അവര് ഹായിപട്ടണക്കാരുടെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു തോറ്റു ഔടി.

4. So there went up there of the people about three thousand men. And they fled before the men of Ai.

5. ഹായിപട്ടണക്കാര് അവരില് മുപ്പത്താറോളം പേരെ കൊന്നു, അവരെ പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് തുടങ്ങി ശെബാരീംവരെ പിന് തുടര്ന്നു മലഞ്ചരിവില്വെച്ചു അവരെ തോല്പിച്ചു. അതുകൊണ്ടു ജനത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഉരുകി വെള്ളംപോലെ ആയ്തീര്ന്നു.

5. And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty-six men. And they chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and smote them at the descent. And the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.

6. യോശുവ വസ്ത്രം കീറി യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പില് അവനും യിസ്രായേല്മൂപ്പന്മാരും തലയില് മണ്ണുവാരിയിട്ടുകൊണ്ടു സന്ധ്യവരെ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു കിടന്നു

6. And Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of LORD until the evening, he and the elders of Israel, and they put dust upon their heads.

7. അയ്യോ കര്ത്താവായ യഹോവേ, ഞങ്ങളെ നശിപ്പിപ്പാന് അമോര്യ്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ഈ ജനത്തെ യോര്ദ്ദാന്നിക്കരെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നതു എന്തു? ഞങ്ങള് യോര്ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ പാര്ത്തിരുന്നെങ്കില് മതിയായിരുന്നു.

7. And Joshua said, Alas, O lord LORD, why have thou at all brought this people over the Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? Would that we had been content and dwelt beyond the Jordan!

8. യഹോവേ, യിസ്രായേല് ശത്രുക്കള്ക്കു പുറം കാട്ടിയശേഷം ഞാന് എന്തു പറയേണ്ടു!

8. Oh, LORD, what shall I say after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies!

9. കനാന്യരും ദേശനിവാസികള് ഒക്കെയും കേട്ടിട്ടു ഞങ്ങളെ ചുറ്റിവളഞ്ഞു ഭൂമിയില്നിന്നു ഞങ്ങളുടെ പേര് മായിച്ചു കളയുമല്ലോ; എന്നാല് നീ നിന്റെ മഹത്തായ നാമത്തിന്നുവേണ്ടി എന്തുചെയ്യും എന്നു യോശുവ പറഞ്ഞു.

9. For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will encompass us around, and cut off our name from the earth, and what will thou do for thy great name?

10. യഹോവ യോശുവയോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുഎഴുന്നേല്ക്ക; നീ ഇങ്ങനെ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണുകിടക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു?

10. And LORD said to Joshua, Get thee up. Why are thou thus fallen upon thy face?

11. യിസ്രായേല് പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന് അവരോടു കല്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള എന്റെ നിയമം അവര് ലംഘിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര് മോഷ്ടിച്ചു മറവുചെയ്തു തങ്ങളുടെ സാമാനങ്ങള്ക്കിടയില് അതു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

11. Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken from what was set apart, and have also stolen, and also dissembled. And they have even put it among their own stuff.

12. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ശാപഗ്രസ്തരായി തീര്ന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ശത്രുക്കളുടെ മുമ്പില് നില്പാന് കഴിയാതെ ശത്രുക്കള്ക്കു പുറം കാട്ടേണ്ടിവന്നു. ശാപം നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നീക്കാതിരുന്നാല് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കയില്ല.

12. Therefore the sons of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies because they have become accursed. I will not be with you any more unless ye destroy what was set apart from among you.

13. നീ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ജനത്തെ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു അവരോടു പറകനാളത്തേക്കു നിങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ ശുദ്ധീകരിപ്പിന് ; യിസ്രായേലേ, നിന്റെ നടുവില് ഒരു ശാപം ഉണ്ടു; ശാപം നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളയുംവരെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ മുമ്പില് നില്പാന് നിനക്കു കഴികയില്ല എന്നിങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ കല്പിക്കുന്നു.

13. Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow. For thus says LORD, the God of Israel, There is what has been set apart in the midst of thee, O Israel. Thou cannot stand before thine enemies until ye take away the devoted thing from among you.

14. നിങ്ങള് രാവിലെ ഗോത്രം ഗോത്രമായി അടുത്തുവരേണം; യഹോവ പിടിക്കുന്ന ഗോത്രം കുലംകുലമായി അടുത്തുവരേണം; യഹോവ പിടിക്കുന്ന കുലം കുടുംബംകുടുംബമായിട്ടു അടുത്തുവരേണം; യഹോവ പിടിക്കുന്ന കുടുംബം ആളാംപ്രതി അടുത്തുവരേണം.

14. In the morning therefore ye shall be brought near by your tribes, and it shall be, that the tribe which LORD takes shall come near by families, and the family which LORD shall take shall come near by households, and the household which LORD shall take shall come near man by man.

15. ശപഥാര്പ്പിതവസ്തുവോടുകൂടെ പിടിപെടുന്നവനെയും അവന്നുള്ള സകലത്തെയും തീയില് ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളയേണം; അവന് യഹോവയുടെ നിയമം ലംഘിച്ചു യിസ്രായേലില് വഷളത്വം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

15. And it shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of LORD, and because he has wrought folly in Israel.

16. അങ്ങനെ യോശുവ അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഗോത്രംഗോത്രമായി വരുത്തി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രം പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

16. So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel near by their tribes, and the tribe of Judah was taken.

17. അവന് യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തെ കുലംകുലമായി വരുത്തി; സര്ഹ്യകുലം പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു; അവന് സര്ഹ്യകുലത്തെ കുടുംബംകുടുംബമായി വരുത്തി; സബ്ദി പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

17. And he brought near the family of Judah, and he took the family of the Zerahites. And he brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was taken.

18. അവന്റെ കുടുംബത്തെ ആളാംപ്രതി വരുത്തി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തില് സേരഹിന്റെ മകനായ സബ്ദിയുടെ മകനായ കര്മ്മിയുടെ മകന് ആഖാന് പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

18. And he brought near his household man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

19. യോശുവ ആഖാനോടുമകനേ, യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു മഹത്വം കൊടുത്തു അവനോടു ഏറ്റുപറക; നീ എന്തു ചെയ്തു എന്നു പറക; എന്നോടു മറെച്ചുവെക്കരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. And Joshua said to Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to LORD, the God of Israel, and make confession to him, and tell me now what thou have done. Hide it not from me.

20. ആഖാന് യോശുവയോടുഞാന് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു പിഴെച്ചു ഇന്നിന്നതു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു സത്യം.

20. And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Of a truth I have sinned against LORD, the God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:

21. ഞാന് കൊള്ളയുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് വിശേഷമായോരു ബാബിലോന്യ മേലങ്കിയും ഇരുനൂറു ശേക്കെല് വെള്ളിയും അമ്പതു ശേക്കെല് തൂക്കമുള്ള ഒരു പൊന് കട്ടിയും കണ്ടു മോഹിച്ചു എടുത്തു; അവ എന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിന്റെ നടുവില് നിലത്തു കുഴിച്ചിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; വെള്ളി അടിയില് ആകന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

21. When I saw among the spoil a goodly Babylon mantle, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them. And, behold, they are hid in the ground in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.

22. യോശുവ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; അവര് കൂടാരത്തില് ഔടിച്ചെന്നു; കൂടാരത്തില് അതും അടിയില് വെള്ളിയും കുഴിച്ചിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

22. So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. And, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.

23. അവര് അവയെ കൂടാരത്തില്നിന്നു എടുത്തു യോശുവയുടെയും എല്ലായിസ്രായേല് മക്കളുടെയും അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് വെച്ചു.

23. And they took them from the midst of the tent, and brought them to Joshua, and to all the sons of Israel, and they laid them down before LORD.

24. അപ്പോള് യോശുവയും എല്ലായിസ്രായേലുംകൂടെ സേരെഹിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ആഖാനെ വെള്ളി, മേലങ്കി, പൊന് കട്ടി, അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര്, പുത്രിമാര്, അവന്റെ കാള, കഴുത, ആടു, കൂടാരം ഇങ്ങനെ അവന്നുള്ള സകലവുമായി ആഖോര്താഴ്വരയില് കൊണ്ടുപോയി

24. And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the mantle, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his donkeys, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had, and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.

25. നീ ഞങ്ങളെ വലെച്ചതു എന്തിന്നു? യഹോവ ഇന്നു നിന്നെ വലെക്കും എന്നു യോശുവ പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേലെല്ലാം അവനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞു, അവരെ തീയില് ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളകയും കല്ലെറികയും ചെയ്തു.

25. And Joshua said, Why have thou troubled us? LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire, and stoned them with stones.

26. അവന്റെ മേല് അവര് ഒരു വലിയ കലക്കുന്നു കൂട്ടി; അതു ഇന്നുവരെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു. ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവയുടെ ഉഗ്രകോപം മാറി; അതുകൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ആഖോര്താഴ്വര എന്നു ഇന്നുവരെ പേര് പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

26. And they raised over him a great heap of stones, to this day, and LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, to this day.
