1. Then the People of Israel violated the holy curse. Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah of the tribe of Judah, took some of the cursed things. GOD became angry with the People of Israel.

2. യോശുവ യെരീഹോവില്നിന്നു ബേഥേലിന്നു കിഴക്കു ബേഥാവെന്റെ സമീപത്തുള്ള ഹായിയിലേക്കു ആളുകളെ അയച്ചു അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു ദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവര് ചെന്നു ഹായിയെ ഒറ്റുനോക്കി,

2. Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai (The Ruin), which is near Beth Aven just east of Bethel. He instructed them, 'Go up and spy out the land.' The men went up and spied out Ai.

3. They returned to Joshua and reported, 'Don't bother sending a lot of people--two or three thousand men are enough to defeat Ai. Don't wear out the whole army; there aren't that many people there.'

4. അങ്ങനെ ജനത്തില് ഏകദേശം മൂവായിരം പേര് അവിടേക്കു പോയി; എന്നാല് അവര് ഹായിപട്ടണക്കാരുടെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു തോറ്റു ഔടി.

4. So three thousand men went up--and then fled in defeat before the men of Ai!

5. The men of Ai killed thirty-six--chased them from the city gate as far as The Quarries, killing them at the descent. The heart of the people sank, all spirit knocked out of them.

6. യോശുവ വസ്ത്രം കീറി യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പില് അവനും യിസ്രായേല്മൂപ്പന്മാരും തലയില് മണ്ണുവാരിയിട്ടുകൊണ്ടു സന്ധ്യവരെ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു കിടന്നു

6. Joshua ripped his clothes and fell on his face to the ground before the Chest of GOD, he and the leaders throwing dirt on their heads, prostrate until evening.

7. അയ്യോ കര്ത്താവായ യഹോവേ, ഞങ്ങളെ നശിപ്പിപ്പാന് അമോര്യ്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ഈ ജനത്തെ യോര്ദ്ദാന്നിക്കരെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നതു എന്തു? ഞങ്ങള് യോര്ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ പാര്ത്തിരുന്നെങ്കില് മതിയായിരുന്നു.

7. Joshua said, 'Oh, oh, oh . . . Master, GOD. Why did you insist on bringing this people across the Jordan? To make us victims of the Amorites? To wipe us out? Why didn't we just settle down on the east side of the Jordan?

8. യഹോവേ, യിസ്രായേല് ശത്രുക്കള്ക്കു പുറം കാട്ടിയശേഷം ഞാന് എന്തു പറയേണ്ടു!

8. Oh, Master, what can I say after this, after Israel has been run off by its enemies?

9. കനാന്യരും ദേശനിവാസികള് ഒക്കെയും കേട്ടിട്ടു ഞങ്ങളെ ചുറ്റിവളഞ്ഞു ഭൂമിയില്നിന്നു ഞങ്ങളുടെ പേര് മായിച്ചു കളയുമല്ലോ; എന്നാല് നീ നിന്റെ മഹത്തായ നാമത്തിന്നുവേണ്ടി എന്തുചെയ്യും എന്നു യോശുവ പറഞ്ഞു.

9. When the Canaanites and all the others living here get wind of this, they'll gang up on us and make short work of us--and then how will you keep up your reputation?'

10. യഹോവ യോശുവയോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുഎഴുന്നേല്ക്ക; നീ ഇങ്ങനെ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണുകിടക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു?

10. GOD said to Joshua, 'Get up. Why are you groveling?

11. യിസ്രായേല് പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന് അവരോടു കല്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള എന്റെ നിയമം അവര് ലംഘിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര് മോഷ്ടിച്ചു മറവുചെയ്തു തങ്ങളുടെ സാമാനങ്ങള്ക്കിടയില് അതു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

11. Israel has sinned: They've broken the covenant I commanded them; they've taken forbidden plunder--stolen and then covered up the theft, squirreling it away with their own stuff.

12. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ശാപഗ്രസ്തരായി തീര്ന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ശത്രുക്കളുടെ മുമ്പില് നില്പാന് കഴിയാതെ ശത്രുക്കള്ക്കു പുറം കാട്ടേണ്ടിവന്നു. ശാപം നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നീക്കാതിരുന്നാല് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കയില്ല.

12. The People of Israel can no longer look their enemies in the eye--they themselves are plunder. I can't continue with you if you don't rid yourselves of the cursed things.

13. നീ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ജനത്തെ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു അവരോടു പറകനാളത്തേക്കു നിങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ ശുദ്ധീകരിപ്പിന് ; യിസ്രായേലേ, നിന്റെ നടുവില് ഒരു ശാപം ഉണ്ടു; ശാപം നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളയുംവരെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ മുമ്പില് നില്പാന് നിനക്കു കഴികയില്ല എന്നിങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ കല്പിക്കുന്നു.

13. 'So get started. Purify the people. Tell them: Get ready for tomorrow by purifying yourselves. For this is what GOD, the God of Israel, says: There are cursed things in the camp. You won't be able to face your enemies until you have gotten rid of these cursed things.

14. നിങ്ങള് രാവിലെ ഗോത്രം ഗോത്രമായി അടുത്തുവരേണം; യഹോവ പിടിക്കുന്ന ഗോത്രം കുലംകുലമായി അടുത്തുവരേണം; യഹോവ പിടിക്കുന്ന കുലം കുടുംബംകുടുംബമായിട്ടു അടുത്തുവരേണം; യഹോവ പിടിക്കുന്ന കുടുംബം ആളാംപ്രതി അടുത്തുവരേണം.

14. 'First thing in the morning you will be called up by tribes. The tribe GOD names will come up clan by clan; the clan GOD names will come up family by family; and the family GOD names will come up man by man.

15. ശപഥാര്പ്പിതവസ്തുവോടുകൂടെ പിടിപെടുന്നവനെയും അവന്നുള്ള സകലത്തെയും തീയില് ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളയേണം; അവന് യഹോവയുടെ നിയമം ലംഘിച്ചു യിസ്രായേലില് വഷളത്വം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

15. The person found with the cursed things will be burned, he and everything he has, because he broke GOD's covenant and did this despicable thing in Israel.'

16. അങ്ങനെ യോശുവ അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഗോത്രംഗോത്രമായി വരുത്തി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രം പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

16. Joshua was up at the crack of dawn and called Israel up tribe by tribe. The tribe of Judah was singled out.

17. അവന് യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തെ കുലംകുലമായി വരുത്തി; സര്ഹ്യകുലം പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു; അവന് സര്ഹ്യകുലത്തെ കുടുംബംകുടുംബമായി വരുത്തി; സബ്ദി പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

17. Then he called up the clans and singled out the Zerahites. He called up the Zerahite families and singled out the Zabdi family.

18. അവന്റെ കുടുംബത്തെ ആളാംപ്രതി വരുത്തി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തില് സേരഹിന്റെ മകനായ സബ്ദിയുടെ മകനായ കര്മ്മിയുടെ മകന് ആഖാന് പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

18. He called up the family members one by one and singled out Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah of the tribe of Judah.

19. യോശുവ ആഖാനോടുമകനേ, യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു മഹത്വം കൊടുത്തു അവനോടു ഏറ്റുപറക; നീ എന്തു ചെയ്തു എന്നു പറക; എന്നോടു മറെച്ചുവെക്കരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. Joshua spoke to Achan, 'My son, give glory to GOD, the God of Israel. Make your confession to him. Tell me what you did. Don't keep back anything from me.'

20. ആഖാന് യോശുവയോടുഞാന് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു പിഴെച്ചു ഇന്നിന്നതു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു സത്യം.

20. Achan answered Joshua, 'It's true. I sinned against GOD, the God of Israel. This is how I did it.

21. ഞാന് കൊള്ളയുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് വിശേഷമായോരു ബാബിലോന്യ മേലങ്കിയും ഇരുനൂറു ശേക്കെല് വെള്ളിയും അമ്പതു ശേക്കെല് തൂക്കമുള്ള ഒരു പൊന് കട്ടിയും കണ്ടു മോഹിച്ചു എടുത്തു; അവ എന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിന്റെ നടുവില് നിലത്തു കുഴിച്ചിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; വെള്ളി അടിയില് ആകന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

21. In the plunder I spotted a beautiful Shinar robe, two hundred shekels of silver, and a fifty-shekel bar of gold, and I coveted and took them. They are buried in my tent with the silver at the bottom.'

22. യോശുവ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; അവര് കൂടാരത്തില് ഔടിച്ചെന്നു; കൂടാരത്തില് അതും അടിയില് വെള്ളിയും കുഴിച്ചിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

22. Joshua sent off messengers. They ran to the tent. And there it was, buried in the tent with the silver at the bottom.

23. അവര് അവയെ കൂടാരത്തില്നിന്നു എടുത്തു യോശുവയുടെയും എല്ലായിസ്രായേല് മക്കളുടെയും അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് വെച്ചു.

23. They took the stuff from the tent and brought it to Joshua and to all the People of Israel and spread it out before GOD.

24. അപ്പോള് യോശുവയും എല്ലായിസ്രായേലുംകൂടെ സേരെഹിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ആഖാനെ വെള്ളി, മേലങ്കി, പൊന് കട്ടി, അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര്, പുത്രിമാര്, അവന്റെ കാള, കഴുത, ആടു, കൂടാരം ഇങ്ങനെ അവന്നുള്ള സകലവുമായി ആഖോര്താഴ്വരയില് കൊണ്ടുപോയി

24. Joshua took Achan son of Zerah, took the silver, the robe, the gold bar, his sons and daughters, his ox, donkey, sheep, and tent--everything connected with him. All Israel was there. They led them off to the Valley of Achor (Trouble Valley).

25. നീ ഞങ്ങളെ വലെച്ചതു എന്തിന്നു? യഹോവ ഇന്നു നിന്നെ വലെക്കും എന്നു യോശുവ പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേലെല്ലാം അവനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞു, അവരെ തീയില് ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളകയും കല്ലെറികയും ചെയ്തു.

25. Joshua said, 'Why have you troubled us? GOD will now trouble you. Today!' And all Israel stoned him--burned him with fire and stoned him with stones.

26. അവന്റെ മേല് അവര് ഒരു വലിയ കലക്കുന്നു കൂട്ടി; അതു ഇന്നുവരെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു. ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവയുടെ ഉഗ്രകോപം മാറി; അതുകൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ആഖോര്താഴ്വര എന്നു ഇന്നുവരെ പേര് പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

26. They piled a huge pile of stones over him. It's still there. Only then did GOD turn from his hot anger. That's how the place came to be called Trouble Valley right up to the present time.
