1. അനന്തരം യഹോവ യോശുവയോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുഭയപ്പെടരുതു, വിഷാദിക്കയും അരുതു; പടജ്ജനത്തെയൊക്കെയും കൂട്ടിപുറപ്പെട്ടു ഹായിയിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുക; ഞാന് ഹായിരാജാവിനെയും അവന്റെ ജനത്തെയും പട്ടണത്തെയും ദേശത്തെയും നിന്റെ കയ്യില് തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

1. Now the LORD said to Joshua, 'Do not fear or be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you and arise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land.

2. യെരീഹോവിനോടും അതിന്റെ രാജാവിനോടും ചെയ്തതുപോലെ നീ ഹായിയോടും അതിന്റെ രാജാവിനോടും ചെയ്യേണംഎന്നാല് അതിലെ കൊള്ളയെയും കന്നുകാലികളെയും നിങ്ങള്ക്കു എടുത്തു കൊള്ളാം. പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ പിന് ഭാഗത്തു പതിയിരിപ്പു ആക്കേണം.

2. 'You shall do to Ai and its king just as you did to Jericho and its king; you shall take only its spoil and its cattle as plunder for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it.'

3. അങ്ങനെ യോശുവയും പടജ്ജനമൊക്കെയും ഹായിയിലേക്കു പോകുവാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടുപരാക്രമശാലികളായ മുപ്പതിനായിരംപേരെ യോശുവ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു രാത്രിയില് അയച്ചു,

3. So Joshua rose with all the people of war to go up to Ai; and Joshua chose 30,000 men, valiant warriors, and sent them out at night.

4. അവരോടു കല്പിച്ചതു എന്തെന്നാല്നിങ്ങള് പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ പിന് ഭാഗത്തു പതിയിരിക്കേണം; പട്ടണത്തോടു ഏറെ അകലാതെ എല്ലാവരും ഒരുങ്ങിയിരിപ്പിന് .

4. He commanded them, saying, 'See, you are going to ambush the city from behind it. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.

5. ഞാനും എന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള സകലജനവും പട്ടണത്തോടു അടുക്കും; അവര് മുമ്പിലത്തെപ്പോലെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടുവരുമ്പോള് ഞങ്ങള് അവരുടെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ഔടും.

5. 'Then I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. And when they come out to meet us as at the first, we will flee before them.

6. 'They will come out after us until we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, '[They] are fleeing before us as at the first.' So we will flee before them.

7. ഉടനെ നിങ്ങള് പതിയിരിപ്പില്നിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു പട്ടണം പിടിക്കേണം; നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ അതു നിങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും.

7. 'And you shall rise from [your] ambush and take possession of the city, for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.

8. പട്ടണം പിടിച്ചശേഷം നിങ്ങള് അതിന്നു തീ വെക്കേണം; യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനപ്രകാരം നിങ്ങള് ചെയ്യേണം; സൂക്ഷിച്ചുകൊള്വിന് ; ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

8. 'Then it will be when you have seized the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do [it] according to the word of the LORD. See, I have commanded you.'

9. അങ്ങനെ യോശുവ അവരെ അയച്ചു അവര് പതിയിരിപ്പിന്നു ചെന്നു ബേഥേലിന്നും ഹായിക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ ഹായിക്കു പടിഞ്ഞാറു അമര്ന്നു, യോശുവയോ ആ രാത്രി ജനത്തിന്റെ ഇടയില് താമസിച്ചു.

9. So Joshua sent them away, and they went to the place of ambush and remained between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua spent that night among the people.

10. യോശുവ അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു ജനത്തെ പരിശോധിച്ചു. അവനും യിസ്രായേല് മൂപ്പന്മാരും ജനത്തിന്നു മുമ്പായി ഹായിക്കു ചെന്നു.

10. Now Joshua rose early in the morning and mustered the people, and he went up with the elders of Israel before the people to Ai.

11. അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പടജ്ജനമൊക്കെയും പുറപ്പെട്ടു അടുത്തുചെന്നു പട്ടണത്തിന്നു മുമ്പില് എത്തി ഹായിക്കു വടക്കു പാളയമിറങ്ങി; അവര്ക്കും ഹായിക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ ഒരു താഴ്വര ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

11. Then all the people of war who [were] with him went up and drew near and arrived in front of the city, and camped on the north side of Ai. Now [there was] a valley between him and Ai.

12. അവന് ഏകദേശം അയ്യായിരം പേരെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു ബേഥേലിന്നും ഹായിക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു പടിഞ്ഞാറു പതിയിരുത്തി.

12. And he took about 5,000 men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.

13. അവര് പട്ടണത്തിന്നു വടക്കു പടജ്ജനമായ സൈന്യത്തെ ഒക്കെയും പട്ടണത്തിന്നു പടിഞ്ഞാറു പതിയിരിപ്പുകാരെയും നിറുത്തി; യോശുവ ആ രാത്രി താഴ്വരയുടെ നടുവിലേക്കു പോയി.

13. So they stationed the people, all the army that was on the north side of the city, and its rear guard on the west side of the city, and Joshua spent that night in the midst of the valley.

14. ഹായിരാജാവു അതു കണ്ടപ്പോള് അവനും നഗരവാസികളായ അവന്റെ ജനമൊക്കെയും ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു എഴുന്നേറ്റു നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്ന സമയത്തു സമഭൂമിക്കു മുമ്പില് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ നേരെ പടെക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടു. പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ പിന് വശത്തു തനിക്കു വിരോധമായി പതിയിരിപ്പു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു അവന് അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

14. It came about when the king of Ai saw [it], that the men of the city hurried and rose up early and went out to meet Israel in battle, he and all his people at the appointed place before the desert plain. But he did not know that [there was] an ambush against him behind the city.

15. യോശുവയും എല്ലായിസ്രായേലും അവരോടു തോറ്റ ഭാവത്തില് മരുഭൂമിവഴിയായി ഔടി.

15. Joshua and all Israel pretended to be beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.

16. അവരെ പിന്തുടരേണ്ടതിന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലെ ജനത്തെ ഒക്കെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി അവര് യോശുവയെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു പട്ടണം വിട്ടു പുറത്തായി.

16. And all the people who were in the city were called together to pursue them, and they pursued Joshua and were drawn away from the city.

17. ഹായിയിലും ബേഥേലിലും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ പുറപ്പെടാതെ ഒരുത്തനും ശേഷിച്ചില്ല; അവര് പട്ടണം തുറന്നിട്ടേച്ചു യിസ്രായേലിനെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു.

17. So not a man was left in Ai or Bethel who had not gone out after Israel, and they left the city unguarded and pursued Israel.

18. അപ്പോള് യഹോവ യോശുവയോടുനിന്റെ കയ്യിലുള്ള കുന്തം ഹായിക്കുനേരെ ഏന്തുക; ഞാന് അതു നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു. അങ്ങനെ യോശുവ തന്റെ കയ്യിലുള്ള കുന്തം ഹായിക്കു നേരെ ഏന്തി.

18. Then the LORD said to Joshua, 'Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand.' So Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.

19. അവന് കൈ നീട്ടിയ ഉടനെ പിതയിരിപ്പുകാര് തങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥലത്തു നിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഔടി പട്ടണത്തില് കയറി അതു പിടിച്ചു ക്ഷണത്തില് പട്ടണത്തിന്നു തീവെച്ചു.

19. The [men in] ambush rose quickly from their place, and when he had stretched out his hand, they ran and entered the city and captured it, and they quickly set the city on fire.

20. ഹായിപട്ടണക്കാര് പുറകോട്ടു നോക്കിയപ്പോള് പട്ടണത്തിലെ പുക ആകാശത്തേക്കു പൊങ്ങുന്നതുകണ്ടു; അവര്ക്കും ഇങ്ങോട്ടോ അങ്ങോട്ടോ ഔടുവാന് കഴിവില്ലാതെയായി; മരുഭൂമിവഴിയായി ഔടിയ ജനവും തങ്ങളെ പിന്തുടരുന്നവരുടെ നേരെ തിരിഞ്ഞു.

20. When the men of Ai turned back and looked, behold, the smoke of the city ascended to the sky, and they had no place to flee this way or that, for the people who had been fleeing to the wilderness turned against the pursuers.

21. പതിയിരിപ്പുകാര് പട്ടണം പിടിച്ചു. പട്ടണത്തിലെ പുക മേലോട്ടു പൊങ്ങുന്നു എന്നു യോശുവയും എല്ലായിസ്രായേലും കണ്ടപ്പോള് മടങ്ങിവന്നു പട്ടണക്കാരെ വെട്ടി.

21. When Joshua and all Israel saw that the [men in] ambush had captured the city and that the smoke of the city ascended, they turned back and slew the men of Ai.

22. മറ്റവരും പട്ടണത്തില്നിന്നു അവരുടെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല് ഇപ്പുറത്തും അപ്പുറത്തും അവര് നടുവിലും ആയി; ഒരുത്തനും ശേഷിക്കയോ വഴുതിപ്പോകയോ ചെയ്യാതവണ്ണം അവരെ വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

22. The others came out from the city to encounter them, so that they were [trapped] in the midst of Israel, some on this side and some on that side; and they slew them until no one was left of those who survived or escaped.

23. ഹായിരാജാവിനെ അവര് ജീവനോടെ പിടിച്ചു യോശുവയുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

23. But they took alive the king of Ai and brought him to Joshua.

24. യിസ്രായേല് തങ്ങളെ പിന് തുടര്ന്ന ഹായിപട്ടണക്കാരെ ഒക്കെയും വെളിന് പ്രദേശത്തു മരുഭൂമിയില്വെച്ചു കൊന്നുതീര്ക്കയും അവര് ഒട്ടൊഴിയാതെ എല്ലാവരും വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് വീണൊടുങ്ങുകയും ചെയ്തശേഷം യിസ്രായേല്യര് ഒക്കെയും ഹായിയിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് അതിനെ സംഹരിച്ചു.

24. Now when Israel had finished killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the field in the wilderness where they pursued them, and all of them were fallen by the edge of the sword until they were destroyed, then all Israel returned to Ai and struck it with the edge of the sword.

25. അന്നു പുരുഷന്മാരും സ്ത്രീകളുമായി വീണൊടുങ്ങിയവര് ആകെ പന്തീരായിരം പേര്; ഹായിപട്ടണക്കാര് എല്ലാവരും തന്നേ.

25. All who fell that day, both men and women, were 12,000-- all the people of Ai.

26. ഹായിപട്ടണക്കാരെ ഒക്കെയും നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കുംവരെ കുന്തം ഏന്തിയ കൈ യോശുവ പിന് വലിച്ചില്ല.

26. For Joshua did not withdraw his hand with which he stretched out the javelin until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.

27. യഹോവ യോശുവയോടു കല്പിച്ച വചനപ്രകാരം യിസ്രായേല്യര് പട്ടണത്തിലെ കന്നുകാലികളെയും കൊള്ളയെയും തങ്ങള്ക്കായിട്ടു തന്നേ എടുത്തു.

27. Israel took only the cattle and the spoil of that city as plunder for themselves, according to the word of the LORD which He had commanded Joshua.

28. പിന്നെ യോശുവ ഹായിപട്ടണം ചുട്ടു സദാകാലത്തേക്കും ഒരു മണ്ക്കുന്നും ശൂന്യഭൂമിയുമാക്കിത്തീര്ത്തു; അതു ഇന്നുവരെയും അങ്ങിനെ കിടക്കുന്നു.

28. So Joshua burned Ai and made it a heap forever, a desolation until this day.

29. ഹായിരാജാവിനെ അവന് സന്ധ്യവരെ ഒരു മരത്തില് തൂക്കി; സൂര്യന് അസ്തമിച്ചപ്പോള് യോശുവയുടെ കല്പനപ്രകാരം ശവം മരത്തില്നിന്നു ഇറക്കി പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് ഇടുകയും അതിന്മേല് ഇന്നുവരെ നിലക്കുന്ന ഒരു വലിയ കല്ക്കുന്നു കൂട്ടുകയും ചെയ്തു.

29. He hanged the king of Ai on a tree until evening; and at sunset Joshua gave command and they took his body down from the tree and threw it at the entrance of the city gate, and raised over it a great heap of stones [that stands] to this day.

30. അനന്തരം യോശുവ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു ഏബാല്പര്വ്വതത്തില് ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു.

30. Then Joshua built an altar to the LORD, the God of Israel, in Mount Ebal,

31. യഹോവയുടെ ദാസനായ മോശെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളോടു കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെയും മോശെയുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണപുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെയും ചെത്തുകയോ ഇരിമ്പു തൊടുവിക്കയോ ചെയ്യാത്ത കല്ലുകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഒരു യാഗപീഠം തന്നേ. അവര് അതിന്മേല് യഹോവേക്കു ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും സമാധാനയാഗങ്ങളും അര്പ്പിച്ചു.

31. just as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of uncut stones on which no man had wielded an iron [tool]; and they offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.

32. മോശെ എഴുതിയിരുന്ന ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്റെ ഒരു പകര്പ്പു അവന് അവിടെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് കാണ്കെ ആ കല്ലുകളില് എഴുതി.

32. He wrote there on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he had written, in the presence of the sons of Israel.

33. എല്ലായിസ്രായേലും അവരുടെ മൂപ്പന്മാരും പ്രമാണികളും ന്യായാധിപന്മാരും യഹോവയുടെ നിയമപെട്ടകം ചുമന്ന ലേവ്യരായ പുരോഹിതന്മാരുടെ മുമ്പാകെ സ്വദേശിയും പരദേശിയും ഒരു പോലെ പെട്ടകത്തിന്നു ഇപ്പുറത്തും അപ്പുറത്തും നിന്നു; അവരില് പാതിപേര് ഗെരിസീംപര്വ്വതത്തിന്റെ വശത്തും പാതിപേര് ഏബാല്പര്വ്വതത്തിന്റെ വശത്തും നിന്നു; അവര് യിസ്രായേല്ജനത്തെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കേണമെന്നു യഹോവയുടെ ദാസനായ മോശെ മുമ്പെ കല്പിച്ചിരുന്നതുപോലെ തന്നേ.

33. All Israel with their elders and officers and their judges were standing on both sides of the ark before the Levitical priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, the stranger as well as the native. Half of them [stood] in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, just as Moses the servant of the LORD had given command at first to bless the people of Israel.

34. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം അവര് ന്യായപ്രമാണപുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഒക്കെയും അനുഗ്രഹവും ശാപവുമായ ന്യായപ്രമാണവചനങ്ങളെല്ലാം വായിച്ചു.

34. Then afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.

35. മോശെ കല്പിച്ച സകലത്തിലും സ്ത്രീകളും കുട്ടികളും ഉള്പ്പെടെ യിസ്രായേല്സഭ മുഴുവനും അവരോടു കൂടെ വന്നിരുന്ന പരദേശികളും കേള്ക്കെ യോശുവ മോശെ കല്പിച്ച സകലത്തിലും യാതൊന്നും വായിക്കാതെ വിട്ടുകളഞ്ഞില്ല.

35. There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel with the women and the little ones and the strangers who were living among them.
