1. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് പിന്നെയും യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു; യഹോവ അവരെ നാല്പതു സംവത്സരത്തോളം ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു.

1. Once again the Israelites started disobeying the LORD. So he let the Philistines take control of Israel for forty years.

2. എന്നാല് ദാന് ഗോത്രത്തില് ഉള്ളവനായി സോരാഥ്യനായ ഒരു പുരുഷന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്നു മാനോഹ എന്നു പേര്; അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ മച്ചിയായിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു പ്രസവിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല.

2. Manoah from the tribe of Dan lived in the town of Zorah. His wife was not able to have children,

3. ആ സ്ത്രീക്കു യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനീ മച്ചിയല്ലോ, പ്രസവിച്ചിട്ടുമില്ല; എങ്കിലും നീ ഗര്ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും.

3. but one day an angel from the LORD appeared to her and said: You have never been able to have any children, but very soon you will be pregnant and have a son. He will belong to God from the day he is born, so his hair must never be cut. And even before he is born, you must not drink any wine or beer or eat any food forbidden by God's laws. Your son will begin to set Israel free from the Philistines.

4. ആകയാല് നീ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു കൊള്ക, വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയുമരുതു.

6. സ്ത്രീ ചെന്നു ഭര്ത്താവിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഒരു ദൈവപുരുഷന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; അവന്റെ ആകൃതി ഒരു ദൈവദൂതന്റെ ആകൃതിപോലെ അതിഭയങ്കരം ആയിരുന്നു; അവന് എവിടെനിന്നെന്നു ഞാന് അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചില്ല; തന്റെ പേര് അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞതും ഇല്ല.

6. She went to Manoah and said, 'A prophet who looked like an angel of God came and talked to me. I was so frightened, that I didn't even ask where he was from. He didn't tell me his name,

7. അവന് എന്നോടു നീ ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; ആകയാല് നീ വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയും അരുതു; ബാലന് ഗര്ഭംമുതല് ജീവപര്യന്തം ദൈവത്തിന്നു നാസീരായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. but he did say that I'm going to have a baby boy. I'm not supposed to drink any wine or beer or eat any food forbidden by God's laws. Our son will belong to God for as long as he lives.'

8. മാനോഹ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുകര്ത്താവേ, നീ അയച്ച ദൈവപുരുഷന് വീണ്ടും ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു, ജനിപ്പാനിരിക്കുന്ന ബാലന്റെ കാര്യത്തില് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതരുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Then Manoah prayed, 'Our LORD, please send that prophet again and let him tell us what to do for the son we are going to have.'

9. ദൈവം മാനോഹയുടെ പ്രാര്ത്ഥന കേട്ടു; ദൈവദൂതന് വീണ്ടും അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; അവള് വയലില് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു; അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവു മാനോഹ കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.

9. God answered Manoah's prayer, and the angel went back to Manoah's wife while she was resting in the fields. Manoah wasn't there at the time,

10. ഉടനെ സ്ത്രീ ഔടിച്ചെന്നു ഭര്ത്താവിനെ അറിയിച്ചു; അന്നു എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്ന ആള് ഇതാ, എനിക്കു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായിവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. so she found him and said, 'That same man is here again! He's the one I saw the other day.'

11. മാനോഹ ഉടനെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഭാര്യയോടുകൂടെ ചെന്നു ആ പുരുഷന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തി; ഈ സ്ത്രീയോടു സംസാരിച്ച ആള് നീയോ എന്നു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു; ഞാന് തന്നേ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Manoah went with his wife and asked the man, 'Are you the one who spoke to my wife?' 'Yes, I am,' he answered.

12. മാനോഹ അവനോടുനിന്റെ വചനം നിവൃത്തിയാകുമ്പോള് ബാലന്റെ കാര്യത്തില് ഞങ്ങള് എങ്ങനെ ആചരിക്കേണം? അവനെ സംബന്ധിച്ചു എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

12. Manoah then asked, 'When your promise comes true, what rules must he obey and what will be his work?'

13. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹയോടുഞാന് സ്ത്രീയോടു പറഞ്ഞതൊക്കെയും അവള് സൂക്ഷിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടെ.

13. Your wife must be careful to do everything I told her,' the LORD's angel answered.

14. മുന്തിരിവള്ളിയില് ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന യാതൊന്നും അവള് തിന്നരുതു; വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയും അരുതു; ഞാന് അവളോടു കല്പിച്ചതൊക്കെയും അവള് ആചരിക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. She must not eat or drink anything made from grapes. She must not drink wine or beer or eat anything forbidden by God's laws. I told her exactly what to do.'

15. മാനോഹ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുഞങ്ങള് ഒരു കോലാട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ നിനക്കായി പാകം ചെയ്യുംവരെ നീ താമസിക്കേണമെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Please,' Manoah said, 'stay here with us for just a little while, and we'll fix a young goat for you to eat.'

16. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹയോടുനീ എന്നെ താമസിപ്പിച്ചാലും ഞാന് നിന്റെ ആഹാരം കഴിക്കയില്ല; ഒരു ഹോമയാഗം കഴിക്കുമെങ്കില് അതു യഹോവേക്കു കഴിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് എന്നു മാനോഹ അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ല.

16. Manoah didn't realize that he was really talking to one of the LORD's angels. The angel answered, 'I can stay for a little while, although I won't eat any of your food. But if you would like to offer the goat as a sacrifice to the LORD, that would be fine.'

17. മാനോഹ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുനിന്റെ വചനം നിവൃത്തിയാകുമ്പോള് ഞങ്ങള് നിന്നെ ബഹുമാനിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിന്റെ പേരെന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

17. Manoah said, 'Tell us your name, so we can honor you after our son is born.'

18. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് അവനോടുഎന്റെ പേര് ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? അതു അതിശയമുള്ളതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. No,' the angel replied. 'You don't need to know my name. And if you did, you couldn't understand it.'

19. അങ്ങനെ മാനോഹ ഒരു കോലാട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെയും ഭോജനയാഗത്തെയും കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഒരു പാറമേല് യഹോവേക്കു യാഗം കഴിച്ചു; മാനോഹയും ഭാര്യയും നോക്കിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കെ അവന് ഒരു അതിശയം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു.

19. So Manoah took a young goat over to a large rock he had chosen for an altar, and he built a fire on the rock. Then he killed the goat, and offered it with some grain as a sacrifice to the LORD. But then an amazing thing happened.

20. അഗ്നിജ്വാല യാഗപീഠത്തിന്മേല്നിന്നു ആകാശത്തിലേക്കു പൊങ്ങിയപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് യാഗപീഠത്തിന്റെ ജ്വാലയോടുകൂടെ കയറിപ്പോയി; മാനോഹയും ഭാര്യയും കണ്ടു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു.

20. The fire blazed up toward the sky, and the LORD's angel went up toward heaven in the fire. Manoah and his wife bowed down low when they saw what happened.

21. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹെക്കും ഭാര്യെക്കും പിന്നെ പ്രത്യക്ഷനായില്ല; അങ്ങനെ അതു യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് എന്നു മാനോഹ അറിഞ്ഞു.

21. The angel was gone, but Manoah and his wife realized that he was one of the LORD's angels.

22. ദൈവത്തെ കണ്ടതുകൊണ്ടു നാം മരിച്ചുപോകും എന്നു മാനോഹ ഭാര്യയോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. Manoah said, 'We have seen an angel. Now we're going to die.'

23. ഭാര്യ അവനോടുനമ്മെ കൊല്ലുവാന് യഹോവേക്കു ഇഷ്ടമായിരുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന് നമ്മുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു ഹോമയാഗവും ഭോജനയാഗവും കൈക്കൊള്കയോ ഇവ ഒക്കെയും നമുക്കു കാണിച്ചുതരികയോ ഈ സമയത്തു ഇതുപോലെയുള്ള കാര്യം നമ്മെ അറിയിക്കയോ ചെയ്കയില്ലായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. The LORD isn't going to kill us,' Manoah's wife responded. 'The LORD accepted our sacrifice and grain offering, and he let us see something amazing. Besides, he told us that we're going to have a son.'

24. അനന്തരം സ്ത്രീ ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു, അവന്നു ശിംശോന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു ബാലന് വളര്ന്നു; യഹോവ അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

24. Later, Manoah's wife did give birth to a son, and she named him Samson. As the boy grew, the LORD blessed him.

25. സോരെക്കും എസ്തായോലിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേയുള്ള മഹനേ--ദാനില്വെച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു അവനെ ഉദ്യമിപ്പിച്ചുതുടങ്ങി.

25. Then, while Samson was staying at Dan's Camp between the towns of Zorah and Eshtaol, the Spirit of the LORD took control of him.
