1. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് പിന്നെയും യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു; യഹോവ അവരെ നാല്പതു സംവത്സരത്തോളം ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു.

1. Again the people of Isra'el did what was evil from ADONAI's perspective, and ADONAI handed them over to the P'lishtim for forty years.

2. എന്നാല് ദാന് ഗോത്രത്തില് ഉള്ളവനായി സോരാഥ്യനായ ഒരു പുരുഷന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്നു മാനോഹ എന്നു പേര്; അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ മച്ചിയായിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു പ്രസവിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല.

2. There was a man from Tzor'ah from the family of Dan, whose name was Manoach; his wife was barren, childless.

3. ആ സ്ത്രീക്കു യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനീ മച്ചിയല്ലോ, പ്രസവിച്ചിട്ടുമില്ല; എങ്കിലും നീ ഗര്ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും.

3. The angel of ADONAI appeared to the woman and said to her, 'Listen! You are barren, you haven't had a child, but you will conceive and bear a son.

4. ആകയാല് നീ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു കൊള്ക, വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയുമരുതു.

4. Now, therefore, be careful not to drink any wine or other intoxicating liquor, and don't eat anything unclean.

5. നീ ഗര്ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; അവന്റെ തലയില് ക്ഷൌരക്കത്തി തൊടുവിക്കരുതു; ബാലന് ഗര്ഭംമുതല് ദൈവത്തിന്നു നാസീരായിരിക്കും; അവന് യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു രക്ഷിപ്പാന് തുടങ്ങും.

5. For indeed you will conceive and bear a son. No razor is to touch his head, because the child will be a [nazir] for God from the womb. Moreover, he will begin to rescue Isra'el from the power of the P'lishtim.'

6. സ്ത്രീ ചെന്നു ഭര്ത്താവിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഒരു ദൈവപുരുഷന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; അവന്റെ ആകൃതി ഒരു ദൈവദൂതന്റെ ആകൃതിപോലെ അതിഭയങ്കരം ആയിരുന്നു; അവന് എവിടെനിന്നെന്നു ഞാന് അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചില്ല; തന്റെ പേര് അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞതും ഇല്ല.

6. The woman came and told her husband; she said, 'A man of God came to me; his face was fearsome, like that of the angel of God. I didn't ask him where he came from, and he didn't tell me his name.

7. അവന് എന്നോടു നീ ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; ആകയാല് നീ വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയും അരുതു; ബാലന് ഗര്ഭംമുതല് ജീവപര്യന്തം ദൈവത്തിന്നു നാസീരായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. But he said to me, 'Listen! You will conceive and bear a son, so now don't drink any wine or other intoxicating liquor, and don't eat anything unclean, because the child will be a [nazir] for God from the womb until the day he dies.''

8. മാനോഹ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുകര്ത്താവേ, നീ അയച്ച ദൈവപുരുഷന് വീണ്ടും ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു, ജനിപ്പാനിരിക്കുന്ന ബാലന്റെ കാര്യത്തില് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതരുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Then Manoach prayed to ADONAI, 'Please, [Adonai], let the man of God you sent come again to us and teach us what we should do for the child who will be born.'

9. ദൈവം മാനോഹയുടെ പ്രാര്ത്ഥന കേട്ടു; ദൈവദൂതന് വീണ്ടും അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; അവള് വയലില് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു; അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവു മാനോഹ കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.

9. God paid attention to what Manoach said, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field, but her husband Manoach wasn't with her.

10. ഉടനെ സ്ത്രീ ഔടിച്ചെന്നു ഭര്ത്താവിനെ അറിയിച്ചു; അന്നു എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്ന ആള് ഇതാ, എനിക്കു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായിവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. The woman hurried and ran to tell her husband, 'Here! That man, the one who came to me the other day, he's come again!'

11. മാനോഹ ഉടനെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഭാര്യയോടുകൂടെ ചെന്നു ആ പുരുഷന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തി; ഈ സ്ത്രീയോടു സംസാരിച്ച ആള് നീയോ എന്നു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു; ഞാന് തന്നേ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Manoach got up, followed his wife, went to the man and said to him, 'Are you the man who spoke to the woman?' He answered, 'I am.'

12. മാനോഹ അവനോടുനിന്റെ വചനം നിവൃത്തിയാകുമ്പോള് ബാലന്റെ കാര്യത്തില് ഞങ്ങള് എങ്ങനെ ആചരിക്കേണം? അവനെ സംബന്ധിച്ചു എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

12. Manoach asked, 'Now, when what you said comes true, what are the guidelines for raising the child? What should be done for him?'

13. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹയോടുഞാന് സ്ത്രീയോടു പറഞ്ഞതൊക്കെയും അവള് സൂക്ഷിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടെ.

13. The angel of ADONAI said to Manoach, 'The woman should take care to do everything I said to her.

14. മുന്തിരിവള്ളിയില് ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന യാതൊന്നും അവള് തിന്നരുതു; വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയും അരുതു; ഞാന് അവളോടു കല്പിച്ചതൊക്കെയും അവള് ആചരിക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. She shouldn't eat anything that comes from a grapevine, she shouldn't drink wine or other intoxicating liquor, and she shouldn't eat anything unclean. She should do everything I ordered her to do.'

15. മാനോഹ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുഞങ്ങള് ഒരു കോലാട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ നിനക്കായി പാകം ചെയ്യുംവരെ നീ താമസിക്കേണമെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Manoach said to the angel of ADONAI, 'Please stay with us a bit longer, so that we can cook a young goat for you.'

16. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹയോടുനീ എന്നെ താമസിപ്പിച്ചാലും ഞാന് നിന്റെ ആഹാരം കഴിക്കയില്ല; ഒരു ഹോമയാഗം കഴിക്കുമെങ്കില് അതു യഹോവേക്കു കഴിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് എന്നു മാനോഹ അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ല.

16. The angel of ADONAI said to Manoach, 'Even if I do stay, I won't eat your food; and if you prepare a burnt offering, you must offer it to [ADONAI.]' For Manoach did not know that he was the angel of ADONAI.

17. മാനോഹ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുനിന്റെ വചനം നിവൃത്തിയാകുമ്പോള് ഞങ്ങള് നിന്നെ ബഹുമാനിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിന്റെ പേരെന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

17. Manoach said to the angel of ADONAI, 'Tell us your name, so that when your words come true we can honor you.'

18. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് അവനോടുഎന്റെ പേര് ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? അതു അതിശയമുള്ളതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. The angel of ADONAI answered him, 'Why are you asking about my name? It is wonderful.'

19. അങ്ങനെ മാനോഹ ഒരു കോലാട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെയും ഭോജനയാഗത്തെയും കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഒരു പാറമേല് യഹോവേക്കു യാഗം കഴിച്ചു; മാനോഹയും ഭാര്യയും നോക്കിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കെ അവന് ഒരു അതിശയം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു.

19. Manoach took the kid and the grain offering and offered them on the rock to [ADONAI.] Then, with Manoach and his wife looking on, the angel did something wonderful-

20. അഗ്നിജ്വാല യാഗപീഠത്തിന്മേല്നിന്നു ആകാശത്തിലേക്കു പൊങ്ങിയപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് യാഗപീഠത്തിന്റെ ജ്വാലയോടുകൂടെ കയറിപ്പോയി; മാനോഹയും ഭാര്യയും കണ്ടു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു.

20. as the flame went up toward the sky from the altar, the angel of ADONAI went up in the flame from the altar. When Manoach and his wife saw it, they fell to the ground on their faces.

21. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹെക്കും ഭാര്യെക്കും പിന്നെ പ്രത്യക്ഷനായില്ല; അങ്ങനെ അതു യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് എന്നു മാനോഹ അറിഞ്ഞു.

21. But the angel of ADONAI did not appear again to Manoach or his wife. Then Manoach realized it had been the angel of [ADONAI.]

22. ദൈവത്തെ കണ്ടതുകൊണ്ടു നാം മരിച്ചുപോകും എന്നു മാനോഹ ഭാര്യയോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. Manoach said to his wife, 'We will surely die, because we have seen God!'

23. ഭാര്യ അവനോടുനമ്മെ കൊല്ലുവാന് യഹോവേക്കു ഇഷ്ടമായിരുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന് നമ്മുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു ഹോമയാഗവും ഭോജനയാഗവും കൈക്കൊള്കയോ ഇവ ഒക്കെയും നമുക്കു കാണിച്ചുതരികയോ ഈ സമയത്തു ഇതുപോലെയുള്ള കാര്യം നമ്മെ അറിയിക്കയോ ചെയ്കയില്ലായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. But his wife said to him, 'If ADONAI had wanted to kill us, he wouldn't have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering from us, and he wouldn't have shown us all this or told us such things at this time.'

24. അനന്തരം സ്ത്രീ ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു, അവന്നു ശിംശോന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു ബാലന് വളര്ന്നു; യഹോവ അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

24. The woman bore a son and called him Shimshon. The child grew, and ADONAI blessed him.

25. സോരെക്കും എസ്തായോലിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേയുള്ള മഹനേ--ദാനില്വെച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു അവനെ ഉദ്യമിപ്പിച്ചുതുടങ്ങി.

25. The Spirit of ADONAI began to stir him when he was in the Camp of Dan, between Tzor'ah and Eshta'ol.
