1. ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തില് കീശ് എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു ധനികന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് ബെന്യാമീന്യനായ അഫീഹിന്റെ മകനായ ബെഖോറത്തിന്റെ മകനായ സെറോറിന്റെ മകനായ അബീയേലിന്റെ മകന് ആയിരുന്നു.

1. Kish was an important man from the tribe of Benjamin. He was the son of Abiel. Abiel was the son of Zeror. Zeror was the son of Becorath. Becorath was the son of Aphiah, a man from Benjamin.

2. Kish had a son named Saul, who was a handsome young man. There was no one more handsome than Saul. He stood a head taller than any other man in Israel.

3. One day, Kish's donkeys got lost. So he said to his son Saul, 'Take one of the servants and go look for the donkeys.'

4. Saul went to look for the donkeys. He walked through the hills of Ephraim and through the area around Shalisha. But Saul and the servant could not find Kish's donkeys. So they went to the area around Shaalim, but the donkeys were not there either. Then Saul traveled through the land of Benjamin, but he and the servant still could not find the donkeys.

5. Finally, Saul and the servant came to the town named Zuph. Saul said to his servant, 'Let's go back. My father will stop worrying about the donkeys and start worrying about us.'

6. But the servant answered, 'A man of God is in this town. People respect him. Everything he says comes true, so let's go into town. Maybe the man of God will tell us where we should go next.'

7. ശൌല് തന്റെ ഭൃത്യനോടുനാം പോകുന്നു എങ്കില് ആ പുരുഷന്നു എന്താകുന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോകേണ്ടതു? നമ്മുടെ ഭാണ്ഡത്തിലെ അപ്പം തീര്ന്നുപോയല്ലോ; ദൈവപുരുഷന്നു കൊണ്ടുചെല്ലുവാന് ഒരു സമ്മാനവും ഇല്ലല്ലോ; നമുക്കു എന്തുള്ളു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

7. Saul said to his servant, 'Sure, we can go into town, but what can we give to him? We have no gift to give the man of God. Even the food in our bags is gone. What can we give him?'

8. ഭൃത്യന് ശൌലിനോടുഎന്റെ കയ്യില് കാല്ശേക്കെല് വെള്ളിയുണ്ടു; ഇതു ഞാന് ദൈവപുരുഷന്നു കൊടുക്കാം; അവന് നമുക്കു വഴി പറഞ്ഞുതരും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.--

8. Again the servant answered Saul. 'Look, I have a little bit of money. Let's give it to the man of God. Then he will tell us where we should go.'

9. പണ്ടു യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരുത്തന് ദൈവത്തോടു ചോദിപ്പാന് പോകുമ്പോള്വരുവിന് ; നാം ദര്ശകന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോക എന്നു പറയും; ഇപ്പോള് പ്രവാചകന് എന്നു പറയുന്നവനെ അന്നു ദര്ശകന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവന്നു.--

9. Saul said to his servant, 'That is a good idea. Let's go.' So they went to the town where the man of God was. Saul and the servant were walking up the hill toward town when they met some young women on the road. The young women were coming out to get water. Saul and the servant asked the young women, 'Is the seer here?' (In the past, people in Israel called a prophet a 'seer.' So if they wanted to ask something from God, they would say, 'Let's go to the seer.')

10. ശൌല് ഭൃത്യനോടുനല്ലതു; വരിക, നമുക്കു പോകാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ദൈവപുരുഷന് താമസിച്ചുവന്ന പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു പോയി.

11. അവര് പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കുള്ള കയറ്റം കയറിച്ചെല്ലുമ്പോള് വെള്ളംകോരുവാന് പോകുന്ന ബാല്യക്കാരത്തികളെ കണ്ടു അവരോടുദര്ശകന് ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

12. The young women answered, 'Yes, the seer is here. He is just up the road. He came to town today. Some people are meeting together today to share in a fellowship offering at the place for worship.

13. So go into town and you will find him. If you hurry, you can catch him before he goes up to eat at the place for worship. The seer blesses the sacrifice, so the people won't begin eating until he gets there. If you hurry, you can find him.'

14. Saul and the servant started walking up the hill to town. Just as they came into town, they saw Samuel coming out of town, walking toward them. He was on his way to the place for worship.

15. എന്നാല് ശൌല് വരുന്നതിന്നു ഒരു ദിവസം മുമ്പെ യഹോവ അതു ശമൂവേലിന്നു വെളിപ്പെടുത്തി

15. The day before, the Lord had told Samuel,

16. നാളെ ഇന്നേരത്തു ബെന്യാമീന് ദേശക്കാരനായ ഒരാളെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയക്കും; എന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഭരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ അവനെ അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്യേണം; അവന് എന്റെ ജനത്തെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില് നിന്നു രക്ഷിക്കും. എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ നിലവിളി എന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് അവരെ കടാക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

16. At this time tomorrow I will send a man to you. He will be from the tribe of Benjamin. You must anoint him and make him the new leader over my people Israel. This man will save my people from the Philistines. I have seen my people suffering, and I have heard their cries for help.'

17. ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് യഹോവ അവനോടുഞാന് നിന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത ആള് ഇതാ; ഇവനാകുന്നു എന്റെ ജനത്തെ ഭരിപ്പാനുള്ളവന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

17. When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to Samuel, 'This is the man I told you about. He will rule my people.'

18. അന്നേരം ശൌല് പടിവാതില്ക്കല് ശമൂവേലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിദര്ശകന്റെ വീടു എവിടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുതരേണമേ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

18. Saul went up to a man near the gate to ask directions. This man just happened to be Samuel. Saul said, 'Excuse me. Could you tell me where the seer's house is?'

19. ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനോടുദര്ശകന് ഞാന് തന്നേ; എന്റെ കൂടെ പൂജാഗിരിക്കു പോരുവിന് ; നിങ്ങള് ഇന്നു എന്നോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കേണം; നാളെ ഞാന് നിന്നെ യാത്രയയക്കാം; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില് ഉള്ളതൊക്കെയും പറഞ്ഞുതരാം.

19. Samuel answered, 'I am the seer. Go on up ahead of me to the place for worship. You and your servant will eat with me today. I will let you go home tomorrow morning. I will answer all your questions.

20. മൂന്നു ദിവസം മുമ്പെ കാണാതെപോയ കഴുതകളെക്കുറിച്ചു ചിന്തിക്കേണ്ടാ; അവയെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാല് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹമൊക്കെയും ആരുടെമേല്? നിന്റെമേലും നിന്റെ സര്വ്വപിതൃഭവനത്തിന്മേലും അല്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. And don't worry about the donkeys that you lost three days ago. They have been found. Now, there is something that everyone in Israel is looking for and that something is you and your family.'

21. അതിന്നു ശൌല്ഞാന് യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളില് ഏറ്റവും ചെറുതായ ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തിലുള്ളവനും എന്റെ കുടുംബം ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തിലെ സകല കുടുംബങ്ങളിലുംവെച്ചു ഏറ്റവും ചെറിയതുമായിരിക്കെ നീ ഇങ്ങനെ എന്നോടു പറയുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

21. Saul answered, 'But I am a member of the tribe of Benjamin. It is the smallest tribe in Israel. And my family is the smallest in the tribe of Benjamin. Why do you say Israel wants me?'

22. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനെയും അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യനെയും കൂട്ടി വിരുന്നുശാലയില് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ടവരുടെ ഇടയില് അവര്ക്കും പ്രധാനസ്ഥലം കൊടുത്തു; ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ടവര് ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതുപേര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

22. Then Samuel took Saul and his servant to the eating area. About 30 people had been invited to eat together and share the sacrifice. Samuel gave Saul and his servant the most important place at the table.

23. ശമൂവേല് വെപ്പുകാരനോടുനിന്റെ പക്കല് വെച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ഞാന് തന്നിട്ടുള്ള ഔഹരി കൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. Samuel said to the cook, 'Bring the meat I gave you. It is the share I told you to save.'

24. വെപ്പുകാരന് കൈക്കുറകും അതിന്മേല് ഉള്ളതും കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ശൌലിന്റെ മുമ്പില്വെച്ചു. നിനക്കായി സൂക്ഷിച്ചു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു ഇതാ; തിന്നുകൊള്ക; ഞാന് ഉത്സവത്തിന്നു ആളുകളെ ക്ഷണിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു ഇതു ഉത്സവത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി നിനക്കായി സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ശമൂവേല് പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ശൌല് അന്നു ശമൂവേലിനോടു കൂടെ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു.

24. The cook brought out the thigh and put it on the table in front of Saul. Samuel said, 'Eat the meat that was put in front of you. It was saved for you for this special time when I called the people together.' So Saul ate with Samuel that day.

25. അവര് പൂജാഗിരിയില്നിന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു ഇറങ്ങിവന്നശേഷം അവന് വീട്ടിന്റെ മുകളില് വെച്ചു ശൌലുമായി സംസാരിച്ചു.

25. After they finished eating, they came down from the place for worship and went back to town. Samuel made a bed for Saul on the roof, and Saul went to sleep.

26. അവര് അതികാലത്തു അരുണോദയത്തിങ്കല് എഴുന്നേറ്റു; ശമൂവേല് മുകളില്നിന്നു ശൌലിനെ വിളിച്ചുഎഴുന്നേല്ക്ക, ഞാന് നിന്നെ യാത്ര അയക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ശൌല് എഴുന്നേറ്റു, അവര് രണ്ടുപേരും, അവനും ശമൂവേലും തന്നേ, വെളിയിലേക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

26. Early the next morning, Samuel shouted to Saul on the roof and said, 'Get up. I will send you on your way.' Saul got up and went out of the house with Samuel.

27. പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ അറ്റത്തു എത്തിയപ്പോള് ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനോടുഭൃത്യന് മുമ്പെ കടന്നു പോകുവാന് പറക; - അവന് കടന്നുപോയി;-- ഞാന് നിന്നോടു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടു അറിയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ അല്പം നില്ക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. Saul, his servant, and Samuel were walking together near the edge of town. Samuel said to Saul, 'Tell your servant to go on ahead of us. I have a message for you from God.' So the servant walked ahead of them.
