1. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം അബ്രാമിന്നു ദര്ശനത്തില് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായതെന്തെന്നാല്അബ്രാമേ, ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; ഞാന് നിന്റെ പരിചയും നിന്റെ അതി മഹത്തായ പ്രതിഫലവും ആകുന്നു.

1. After these things, came the word of Yahweh unto Abram, in a vision saying, Do not fear Abram, am a shield to thee, thine exceeding great reward.

2. അതിന്നു അബ്രാംകര്ത്താവായ യഹോവേ, നീ എനിക്കു എന്തു തരും? ഞാന് മക്കളില്ലാത്തവനായി നടക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; എന്റെ അവകാശി ദമ്മേശെക്കുകാരനായ ഈ എല്യേസര് അത്രേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. And Abram said My Lord Yahweh, what canst thou give me, when, I, am going on childless, and the heir of my house, is Eliezer, of Damascus,

3. നീ എനിക്കു സന്തതിയെ തന്നിട്ടില്ല, എന്റെ വീട്ടില് ജനിച്ച ദാസന് എന്റെ അവകാശിയാകുന്നു എന്നും അബ്രാം പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And Abram said Lo, to me, hast thou not given seed,

4. അവന് നിന്റെ അവകാശിയാകയില്ല; നിന്റെ ഉദരത്തില്നിന്നുപുറപ്പെടുന്നവന് തന്നേ നിന്റെ അവകാശിയാകും. എന്നു അവന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി.

4. And lo! a son of my household, is mine heir! And lo! the word of Yahweh came unto him, saying, This one, shall not be thine heir: But one who cometh forth of thy body he shall be thine heir.

5. പിന്നെ അവന് അവനെ പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നുനീ ആകാശത്തേക്കു നോക്കുക; നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളെ എണ്ണുവാന് കഴിയുമെങ്കില് എണ്ണുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. നിന്റെ സന്തതിഇങ്ങനെ ആകും എന്നും അവനോടു കല്പിച്ചു.

5. And he brought him forth abroad and said Look steadfastly. I pray thee towards the heavens, and number the stars, if thou be able to number, them, And he said to him, Thus, shall be thy seed.

6. അവന് യഹോവയില് വിശ്വസിച്ചു; അതു അവന് അവന്നു നീതിയായി കണക്കിട്ടു.

6. And he had faith in Yahweh, so he reckoned it to him as righteousness.

7. പിന്നെ അവനോടുഈ ദേശത്തെ നിനക്കു അവകാശമായി തരുവാന് കല്ദയപട്ടണമായ ഊരില്നിന്നു നിന്നെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവന്ന യഹോവ ഞാന് ആകുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

7. And he said unto him, I, am Yahweh, who brought thee forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.

8. കര്ത്താവായ യഹോവേ, ഞാന് അതിനെ അവകാശമാക്കുമെന്നുള്ളതുഎനിക്കു എന്തൊന്നിനാല് അറിയാം എന്നു അവന് ചോദിച്ചു.

8. And he said, My Lord Yahweh, whereby, can I know that I shall inherit it?

9. അവന് അവനോടുനീ മൂന്നു വയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു പശുക്കിടാവിനെയും മൂന്നുവയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു കോലാടിനെയും മൂന്നു വയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു ആട്ടുകൊറ്റനെയും ഒരു കുറുപ്രാവിനെയും ഒരു പ്രാവിന് കുഞ്ഞിനെയും കൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

9. And he said unto him, Take for me a heifer three years old, and a she-goat three years old, and a ram three years old, and a turtle-dove and a young pigeon.

10. ഇവയെയൊക്കെയും അവന് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഒത്തനടുവെ പിളര്ന്നു ഭാഗങ്ങളെ നേര്ക്കുംനേരെ വെച്ചു; പക്ഷികളെയോ അവന് പിളര്ന്നില്ല.

10. So he took for him all these, and divided them, in the midst, and placed each piece over against its fellow, hut the birds, divided he not.

11. ഉടലുകളിന്മേല് റാഞ്ചന് പക്ഷികള്ഇറങ്ങി വന്നപ്പോള് അബ്രാം അവയെ ആട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

11. Then came down the birds of prey upon the carcass, and Abram drove them away.

12. സൂര്യന് അസ്തമിക്കുമ്പോള് അബ്രാമിന്നു ഒരു ഗാഢനിദ്ര വന്നു; ഭീതിയും അന്ധതമസ്സും അവന്റെ മേല് വീണു.

12. And it came to pass when, the sun, was shout to go in. and a deep sleep, had fallen upon Abram, lo! a terror a great darkness, was falling upon him.

13. അപ്പോള് അവന് അബ്രാമിനോടുനിന്റെ സന്തതി സ്വന്തമല്ലാത്ത ദേശത്തു നാനൂറു സംവത്സരം പ്രവാസികളായിരുന്നു ആ ദേശക്കാരെ സേവിക്കും; അവര് അവരെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കുമെന്നു നീ അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ക.

13. And he said to Abram Thou must surely know, that, sojourners, will thy seed become in a land not theirs, and shall serve them and they will humble them, four hundred years;

14. എന്നാല് അവര് സേവിക്കുന്ന ജാതിയെ ഞാന് വിധിക്കും; അതിന്റെ ശേഷം അവര് വളരെ സമ്പത്തോടുംകൂടെ പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോരും.

14. moreover also, the nation whom they will serve, I, am going to judge, and after that, shall they come forth with great substance.

15. നീയോ സമാധാനത്തോടെ നിന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു ചേരും; നല്ല വാര്ദ്ധക്യത്തില് അടക്കപ്പെടും.

15. But, thou, shalt go in unto thy fathers in peace, thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

16. നാലാം തലമുറക്കാര് ഇവിടേക്കു മടങ്ങിവരും; അമോര്യ്യരുടെ അക്രമം ഇതുവരെ തികഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

16. And, in the fourth generation, shall they return hither, for not complete, is the iniquity of the Amorites, as yet,

17. സൂര്യന് അസ്തമിച്ചു ഇരുട്ടായശേഷം ഇതാ, പുകയുന്ന ഒരു തീച്ചൂള; ആ ഭാഗങ്ങളുടെ നടുവെ ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പന്തം കടന്നുപോയി.

17. So it came to pass when, the sun, had gone in, and Ira thick darkness, had come on, that lo there was a smoking hearth and torch of fire, which passed through between these pieces.

18. അന്നു യഹോവ അബ്രാമിനോടു ഒരു നിയമം ചെയ്തുനിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കു ഞാന് മിസ്രയീംനദി തുടങ്ങി ഫ്രാത്ത് നദിയായ മഹാനദിവരെയുള്ള ഈ ദേശത്തെ,

18. In that day, did Yahweh solemnise with Abram a covenant, saying, To thy seed, have I given this land, from the river of Egypt as far as the great river the river Euphrates:

19. കേന്യര്, കെനിസ്യര്, കദ്മോന്യര്, ഹിത്യര്,

19. the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite;

20. പെറിസ്യര്, രെഫായീമ്യര്, അമോര്യ്യര്,

20. and the Hittite and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim;

21. കനാന്യര്, ഗിര്ഗ്ഗശ്യര്, യെബൂസ്യര് എന്നിവരുടെ ദേശത്തെ തന്നേ, തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

21. and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.
