1. Sarai was Abram's wife, but she did not have any children. She had an Egyptian slave named Hagar.

2. സാറായി അബ്രാമിനോടുഞാന് പ്രസവിക്കാതിരിപ്പാന് യഹോവ എന്റെ ഗര്ഭം അടെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ. എന്റെ ദാസിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നാലും; പക്ഷേ അവളാല് എനിക്കു മക്കള് ലഭിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അബ്രാം സാറായിയുടെ വാക്കു അനുസരിച്ചു.

2. Sarai told Abram, 'The Lord has not allowed me to have children, so sleep with my slave. Maybe she can have a son, and I will accept him as my own.' Abram did what Sarai said.

3. അബ്രാം കനാന് ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തു പത്തു സംവത്സരം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അബ്രാമിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറായി മിസ്രയീമ്യദാസിയായ ഹാഗാറിനെ തന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവായ അബ്രാമിന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു.

3. So after living ten years in the land of Canaan, Sarai gave her Egyptian slave to Abram as a second wife.

4. അവന് ഹാഗാരിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു; അവള് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു; താന് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു എന്നു അവള് കണ്ടപ്പോള് യജമാനത്തി അവളുടെ കണ്ണിന്നു നിന്ദിതയായി.

4. Abram slept with Hagar, and she became pregnant. When Hagar realized this, she became very proud and began to feel that she was better than Sarai her owner.

5. അപ്പോള് സാറായി അബ്രാമിനോടുഎനിക്കു ഭവിച്ച അന്യായത്തിന്നു നീ ഉത്തരവാദി; ഞാന് എന്റെ ദാസിയെ നിന്റെ മാര്വ്വിടത്തില് തന്നു; എന്നാല് താന് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു എന്നു അവള് കണ്ടപ്പോള് ഞാന് അവളുടെ കണ്ണിന്നു നിന്ദിതയായി; യഹോവ എനിക്കും നിനക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ ന്യായം വിധിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Then Sarai said to Abram, 'My slave girl now hates me, and I blame you for this. I gave her to you, and she became pregnant. Then she began to feel that she is better than I am. I want the Lord to judge which of us is right.'

6. അബ്രാം സാറായിയോടുനിന്റെ ദാസി നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഇരിക്കുന്നുഇഷ്ടംപോലെ അവളോടു ചെയ്തുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. സാറായി അവളോടു കാഠിന്യം തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് അവള് അവളെ വിട്ടു ഔടിപ്പോയി.

6. But Abram said to Sarai, 'She is your slave. You can do anything you want to her.' So Sarai was cruel to Hagar, and Hagar ran away.

7. പിന്നെ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മരുഭൂമിയില് ഒരു നീരുറവിന്റെ അരികെ, ശൂരിന്നു പോകുന്ന വഴിയിലെ നീരുറവിന്റെ അരികെ വെച്ചു തന്നേ അവളെ കണ്ടു.

7. The Angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring of water in the desert. The spring was by the road to Shur.

8. സാറായിയുടെ ദാസിയായ ഹാഗാരേ, നീ എവിടെ നിന്നു വരുന്നു? എങ്ങോട്ടു പോകുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവള്ഞാന് എന്റെ യജമാനത്തി സാറായിയെ വിട്ടു ഔടിപ്പോകയാകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. The angel said, 'Hagar, Sarai's slave girl, why are you here? Where are you going?' Hagar said, 'I am running away from Sarai.'

9. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് അവളോടുനിന്റെ യജമാനത്തിയുടെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു അവള്ക്കു കീഴടങ്ങിയിരിക്ക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

9. The Angel of the Lord said to her, 'Sarai is your owner. Go home to her and obey her.'

10. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് പിന്നെയും അവളോടുഞാന് നിന്റെ സന്തതിയെ ഏറ്റവും വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കും; അതു എണ്ണിക്കൂടാതവണ്ണം പെരുപ്പമുള്ളതായിരിക്കും.

10. The Angel of the Lord also said, 'From you will come many people. There will be so many people that they cannot be counted.'

11. നീ ഗര്ഭിണിയല്ലോ; നീ ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; യഹോവ നിന്റെ സങ്കടം കേള്ക്കകൊണ്ടു അവന്നു യിശ്മായേല് എന്നു പേര് വിളിക്കേണം;

11. Then the Angel of the Lord said, 'Hagar, you are now pregnant, and you will have a son. You will name him Ishmael, because the Lord has heard that you were treated badly.

12. അവന് കാട്ടുകഴുതയെപ്പോലെയുള്ള മനുഷ്യന് ആയിരിക്കുംഅവന്റെ കൈ എല്ലാവര്ക്കും വിരോധമായും എല്ലാവരുടെയും കൈ അവന്നു വിരോധമായും ഇരിക്കും; അവന് തന്റെ സകല സഹോദരന്മാര്ക്കും എതിരെ പാര്ക്കും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

12. Ishmael will be wild and free like a wild donkey. He will be against everyone, and everyone will be against him. He will move from place to place and camp near his brothers.'

13. എന്നാറെ അവള്എന്നെ കാണുന്നവനെ ഞാന് ഇവിടെയും കണ്ടുവോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു തന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത യഹോവേക്കുദൈവമേ, നീ എന്നെ കാണുന്നു എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.

13. The Lord talked to Hagar. She began to use a new name for God. She said to him, 'You are 'God Who Sees Me.'' She said this because she thought, 'I see that even in this place God sees me and cares for me!'

14. അതുകൊണ്ടു ആ കിണറ്റിന്നു ബേര്-ലഹയീ-രോയീ എന്നു പേരായി; അതു കാദേശിന്നും ബേരെദിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

14. So the well there was called Beer Lahai Roi. It is between Kadesh and Bered.

15. പിന്നെ ഹാഗാര് അബ്രാമിന്നു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചുഹാഗാര് പ്രസവിച്ച തന്റെ മകന്നു അബ്രാം യിശ്മായേല് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

15. Hagar gave birth to Abram's son, and Abram named the son Ishmael.

16. ഹാഗാര് അബ്രാമിന്നു യിശ്മായേലിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചപ്പോള് അബ്രാമിന്നു എണ്പത്താറു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു.

16. Abram was 86 years old when Ishmael was born from Hagar.
